The 1971 horror film The Nightcomers was a prequel to Henry James' literary classic The Turn Of The Screw and is probably most remembered for its eye catching poster of a naked Marlon Brando and Stephanie Beacham (faithfully reproduced on the label of this release).
Set on an isolated country estate it's a tale of repression, sado-masochism and childhood innocence helmed by Michael Winner who would shortly go to make the big time in Hollywood with Death Wish. Marlon Brando would also move on to his greatest role as Don Corleone in The Godfather.
Three times Oscar nominee composer Jerry Fielding delivered a perfectly pitched score for this gothic horror, illuminating his love of 19th century baroque music, he considered it one of his finest works. A close collaborator with Michael Winner his intricate film scores were also the bedrock of his longstanding relationships with Sam Peckinpah and Clint Eastwood on some of their biggest films.

Mondo is proud to present the third of our Cronenberg / Shore summer trilogy: the 20th anniversary release of Howard Shore's score to David Cronenberg's Crash. Crash is an utterly audacious piece of work from Shore—using 6 electric guitars, 3 orchestral harps, 3 woodwinds and 2 percussionists. Shore crafts a meticulous sonic landscape.
Based on the novel by J.G. Ballard, Crash deftly explores the complex interpersonal relationships of a select few, who find themselves colliding head-on with the world of car-crash fetishism. Crash is the first Cronenberg film to premiere at Cannes. John Bender wrote Shore's calculated instrumentation, mostly electronically manipulated guitars, harps and percussion, give Crash a cold and burnished metallic sound.' The perfect companion to an uncompromising filmmaker like David Cronenberg.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of this complex film, Mondo and Howe Records are pleased to present Howard Shore's score for Crash for the first time ever on Vinyl, with original artwork by Rich Kelly.

Pacific Rim is a 2013 American science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo del Toro, and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
The film is set in the future, when Earth is at war with the Kaiju, colossal monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas each controlled by at least two pilots, whose minds are joined by a neural bridge. Focusing on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaiju. The movie was highly successful in many territories, earning more than $411 million.
The film's score was composed by Ramin Djawadi, with guest musicians Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) and Priscilla Ahn. Ramin Djawadi is best known for his scores for the movies Warcraft (MOVATM118), Iron Man, Prison Break and for HBO's hit series Game of Thrones.

La Califfa" (1970) is a rare example, probably very rare, in which the director and author of the book on which the film is inspired coincide, we're talking about Antonio Bevilacqua, who won the Nastro D'Argento prize as Best New Director with this film.
The film deals with the issue of the class struggle, and in particular the love-hate relationship between a businessman (Ugo Tognazzi) and a female worker (Romy Schneider, almost too sensual here) who lost her fiancé at the working place. A romantic and dramatic work, as the music written and orchestrated by Ennio Morricone, here often surrounded by an impressive aura of sacredness. This LP also features, as guests on voices and choirs, Edda Dell'Orso and I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni. Surprisingly, despite the success of the film and its soundtrack received at the time, "La Califfa" has never been reissued on LP since the early '70s.
This new edition on Vinyl Magic record label eventually fills this gap and, except for the front cover image, the artwork has been completely renewed: the inner sleeve contains in fact many reproductions of posters and lobby cards of the film. Various tracks, never released on LP until today, have also been added to the final tracklist.

More than a halo of mystery surrounds "Le due stagioni della vita" (The two seasons of life), a film virtually impossible to find in any format, that we hardly know the names of its actors and director. The latter, Samy Pavel, of Belgian nationality but born in Egypt in 1944, debuted in 1972 precisely with this film, which was presented at the Venice International Film Festival in the same year.
The author of the soundtrack is Ennio Morricone, who was already a World famous composer in those years thanks to his unforgettable soundtracks written for Sergio Leone's western movies and beyond. He's here accompanied, as often happened in those years, by conductor Bruno Nicolai and singer Edda Dell'Orso. Entirely orchestral, first of all the LP shows a long suite on side A, composed of a series of the main theme variations, the B-side, on the other hand, presents a brief interlude for solo voices, followed by another long composition that we wouldn't hesitate to define 'unbelievable': sixteen long minutes of a constant tension generated by string instruments only, with sporadic inserts of tribal percussion, dissonant piano chords and notes, and darkened choirs.
This reissue on Vinyl Magic is the first ever on LP since the original one published in 1972.

"Teorema" is a film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini, publicly presented for the first time in September 1968 at the International Film Festival in Venice, it immediately shocked its viewers, like many other of Pasolini's works, and was seized by the Public Prosecutor of Rome and the director, with producer Donato Leoni, were charged with obscenity - and eventually absolved.
The music of the film is divided in two: the original vinyl B-side is entirely occupied by Mozart's "Messa da Requiem", while the A-side houses five original compositions written by Ennio Morricone. These ones consist of two opening dissonant and discordant tracks, solely played with classical instruments ("Teorema", "Frammenti"), a ballad sung by the Junior Trio ("Fruscio di green leaves"), a piece that reminds of a western movie by Sergio Leone ("L'ultima corrida") and a closing instrumental beat/psych song ("Beat N° 3").
This Vinyl Magic reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1968 version, and is printed in a limited edition on 180gr transparent lime coloured vinyl.

Vergogna schifosi" is a 1969 movie directed by Mauro Severino, a "Generation '68" film whose aim is to depict a social protest against the middle-class youth of the time, with the deserted - as empty as the protagonists - city of Milan in the background; everything is tied together by a mysterious murder that occurred years before, resurfaced by a mysterious individual.
The soundtrack of this film was entrusted to Ennio Morricone who, with the collaboration of I Cantori Moderni di Alessandro Alessandroni and an incredible Edda Dell'Orso, combined symphonic and pop music, with a jazzy rhythmic background. Six tracks with a soothing and romantic atmosphere that wouldn't look out of place in a 'lounge' compilation; undoubtedly brilliant is the reinterpretation of the famous nursery rhyme melody of "Giro Giro Tondo", included in the two pieces of the same title "Matto, Caldo, Soldi, Morto... Girotondo".
This Vinyl Magic reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1969 version, and is printed in a limited edition on 180gr solid gold coloured vinyl.

ears ago he started putting together some selections for a friend of his: Luca. The intention was to pick songs to be played during car rides, and like any other kind of ritual, this too would come with strict rules. You'd have to go throw the whole selection of 100 tracks without skipping, because every single one was important. Be it the sounds, the arrangement or its creativity, each track was there for a very specific reasons. It quickly became a monthly event which for several years evolved in a deep musical research without genre boundaries: Disco and psychedelic, soundtracks, library music, exotica, electronic and dance music, italo, new wave, pop or prog. Tracks of each and any historical period and provenance had been featured in this special compilations. But it wasn't always that easy to come up with the right piece and eventually Francesco started producing a few on his own to fill in the gaps. After six tracks, it was quite clear that there was a project developing, one in which he could finally experiment freely, leaving behind the rules that often come with dance tracks. Of course, no name could have been better than the one of his friend that had inspired everything And so L.u.c.a was born. Now, while preserving the same mind set, L.u.c.a is back with an album that embraces a new-hippie vibe, strongly pervaded by a mystical naturalism. This is a whole new universe in the making, where rumbling magmatic atmospheres evolve gradually in a journey through an idealist new world, celestial interludes revealing a full take over of nature, with a pervasive library feel that dates back to the great Italian masters, carrying on Edizioni Mondo's legacy.

Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today - Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they're here to save the world!
The music is composed by Hollywood's go-to composer for edgy comedic fare: Theodore Shapiro. He has consistently delivered memorable music for some of the funniest movies of the past five years. Shapiro's careful touch has made him a sought-after collaborator for some of Hollywood's leading comedy directors: David Frankel (Prada, Marley), Stiller (Tropic Thunder), John Hamburg (I Love You, Man, Along Came Polly), Mike Judge (Idiocracy) and, most recently, Harold Ramis (Year One). Shapiro, 37, is a rarity in modern film music: a classically trained composer (bachelor's degree from Brown, master's from Juilliard) who, despite commissions for classical works (including a well-received piano concerto in 1999), decided he'd rather be working in film.

A must-have for fans, this compilation features selections from over 80 years of recordings from a variety of DC Comics movies, television shows, animated series, videogames, and radio shows.
Whether it's in the panels of a comic or the frames of a TV show or film, heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Flash are always a sight to behold. But let's not overlook how they sound. Whether it's the iconic, influential work of master composers like John Williams, Shirley Walker or Hans Zimmer, the retro kitsch associated with shows like 1966's Batman or 1973's Super Friends, or the poppy, irresistible hooks of the recent DC Super Hero Girls theme, "Get Your Cape On," DC has a long legacy of unforgettable music.
The Music of DC Comics: Volume 2 features 29 songs from beloved movies, television shows, games and radio shows including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman, Injustice: Gods Among Us, The Dark Knight Rises, Supergirl, Gotham and The Flash, including eleven songs that have never before been released.

"Codice d'amore orientale" isn't really Piero Vivarelli's best film, but it features a great soundtrack (as most of the movies of that era) written by Alberto Baldan Bembo (here under the moniker of Blue Marvin), an excellent composer and pianist, older brother of the way more famous songwriter Dario. The nine tracks span several genres and linger between Italian popular music and orchestral pop, Asian influences (couldn't have been different), breakbeat, funk and some experimentalisms. Perfect for any self-respecting DJ's music selection!

USM are excited to announce the first release of the soundtrack to David Bowie's 1976 cult film 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' which is coming to 2CD, 2LP & a Super Deluxe collectors boxset in late 2016.
· To celebrate Studiocanal's 40th Anniversary 4K release of Nic Roeg's cult classic 'The Man Who Fell To Earth', starring David Bowie, Universal will be releasing the complete soundtrack, available for the very first time, containing seminal pieces written for the film by John Phillips and Stomu Yamash'ta.
· The film itself reached cult status due to Bowie's outstanding performance, and confirmed the film's director Nic Roeg, and book's author Walter Tevis, as champions of their respective fields. The music, highly celebrated but until now unavailable as a body of work, can now finally be acknowledged in its own light.
· Little is known, and much has been asked, as to why the soundtrack was never originally released, but due to lost tapes recently being uncovered it is now possible to present the original recordings, remastered on CD, Vinyl and in a dual format Deluxe Box.
· The Deluxe boxset features the 2CD & 2LP Vinyl components as well as poster, production stills and a coffee table book containing the story of the soundtrack.
· John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas composed and recorded much of the music for the film. The majority of Phillips' compositions have been unavailable for 40 years, until now.
· The 2CD format will be released in September, earlier than the vinyl & boxset formats to coincide with the UK cinema re-release, also planned to be released in the US and Germany, more information to follow.

"La Conquista di Luna" (The Moon's Conquest, 1969) is composer Luciano Michelini's masterpiece, one of the rarest and most sought Italian LP's, an imaginary sci-fi soundtrack enriched by the presence of the legendary singer Edda Dell'Orso on some tracks. Drawing its structure from classical and orchestral soundtracks, the album is tinged with prog elements ahead of their time, soft psychedelia and moments of sheer genius: more than 40 years after its first release, it still guarantees a jaw-dropping listening experience.

Recorded at Umiliani's personal Sound Work Shop Studio in Rome, this double album spreads it's four sides over percussive experiments and other more abstract ones, with excellent results in both cases.
The first disc includes also beat and swing elements, while the sixteen tracks from "Effetti speciali", though less immediate, are equally fascinating. A perhaps less known Umiliani, but this is just one more reason for a deserved and fast rediscovery.

Clear vinyl LP + insert on London's superb Paradigm Discs label. Edition of 500 numbered copies.
This scarcely-released-before William Burroughs work has everything the Burroughs fan could ask for: cut-up techniques were used to create both the text and the tape-recorded reading of the text, so this is a plenty messed-around-with piece of sound poetics. Not to mention old Will's amazingly craggy voice!
William Burroughs was in and out of London from the mid-50s through to 1974 and for several years quite settled in a flat near Piccadilly. During this latter time he developed and refined the techniques he used for creating cut-ups on tape. Working closely with Ian Sommerville, who helped acquire, and no doubt maintain, the various tape recorders that Burroughs used and abused in these experimental works. The work here is in 2 sections, which in their original form lasted for over an hour and first appeared in 1998 under the name Electronic Revolution as a free CD with Issue One of the French magazine Crash. The CD was quickly withdrawn with maybe only 100 copies finding their way into circulation.
This edition is edited down to 46 minutes and comprises the core of the original recording. It employs the now familiar techniques of random drop-ins and cut-ups of readings. The readings themselves also being cut-ups of words on the page. The first section of the tape uses further processing by means of a 2nd tape recorder. Recorded in Duke Street c1968, the tape was then passed on to Brion Gysin in Paris where it remained in his archive until 1998. This is the first readily available edition of a hypnotic and meditative recording that examines the hidden power of words. Closer to a work of sound poetry than anything literary.
The album includes a 12'x12' insert with an essay by Ben Harper and several previously unseen portrait photos of Burroughs, taken by Harriet Crowder in her Hammersmith flat during a drug experiment. The back cover uses another Crowder image - the very next frame after the famous shot that appeared on the cover of the English Bookshop/ESP 'Call Me Burroughs' LP.

Third impressive chapter for Alex Puddu's "Golden Age of Danish Pornography", a cult series of soundtrack-like tracks inspired by the unmistakable sounds of the '60s and the '70s. As usual, Alex is doing (almost) everything by himself - writing, arranging, producing and performing with a little help from a few trusty friends. Disco funk, tribal and exotic percussions, smooth Memphis soul riffs, fuzzy guitars, interstellar synths, electric sitar, wild vocals, groovy saxophones and trumpets, all of this and much more can be found in this incredible record!

Next up on Polytechnic Youth is the beautiful debut full length from Brooklyn-based Faten Kanaan.
Following a hugely acclaimed cassette release ('EP'), Faten's music was pointed the direction of PY by Listening Center's David Mason (a PY label mate, who also mixed this record) and like many people, we loved it instantly.
Faten uses vintage synthesizers to slowly build songs inspired by cinematic forms: from sweeping landscapes and quiet love stories, to the patterned tension of 1970s horror film soundtracks. Focusing on bringing a human touch to electronic music that highlights the relationship between man, nature, and machine: the drifting of time, the dystopic grittiness, and the bittersweet (but hopeful) sense of nostalgia.
Here is what others have said about Faten's music:
'Noisey' (Vice), (written by Zachary Lipez)
It's a subtle sound that could easily fade into the background in less capable hands, but Kanaan is working ably within a tradition that encompasses both early synth visionaries and Stereolab or Broadcast, so the hits, as it were, keep coming.
'When I was a teen I didn't know what sequencers and arpeggiators were, so I thought industrial/no wave music synth parts were all played manually,' she says. 'I liked that music and taught myself to play like that, relying on classical techniques. I don't use any sequencers nor arpeggiators, I play all the parts by hand and loop them live'.
'The Active Listener', (written by Nathan Ford)
It's refreshing to hear a female voice in a genre almost exclusively populated by men since the loss of Trish Keenan and with Faten Kanaan we may have found a worthy successor. Like the best Broadcast works, the pieces found here are much more than the mood-pieces proffered by most Hauntologists. Kanaan understands that the medium is a suitable springboard for much more than moodsetting and Radiophonic nostalgia, although both of those boxes are ticked here too.
All in all, 'The Botanist & The Archaeologist' fits the proverbial 'stunning debut album' billing. A beautiful record, containing an evolving array of styles and textures. It is equally pleasing on the eye, gorgeous sleeve art with a -unique to each copy- hand crafted (by Faten herself) Cyanotype print. Lovely stuff in special packaging....

Well over a year in the making, Tiger Lab Vinyl and Madhouse Production Studios teamed up to present Masahiro Ikumi's original score to to the classic 1997 psychological thriller on vinyl for the first time ever.
Once again, Tiger Lab enlisted the impeccable work of Heba Kadry of Timeless Mastering NYC to remaster Ikumi's mesmerizing compositions. A short but powerful listen (six tracks clocking in at 31 minutes), PERFECT BLUE will haunt your speakers for days.

"Musica per commenti sonori", also known as "Lipstick" and released by Costanza, came out in 1979 and is one of Roelen's latest examples of library music before his death, which occurred in 1985. The tracks are often characterized by a typical late-seventies funky mood, but they also feature some laid down moments that would sound great in some erotic films soundtracks. 'Music for all hours' says the back cover, and that's perfectly true!

Plaint of Lapwing is the fruit of a two year collaboration and burgeoning friendship. Green drew on a variety of instruments to build on Roberts' beautiful songwriting, perhaps most notably the harmoniflute, somewhere between a harmonium and an accordion. The result is an album of intimate and entrancing folk.
The LPs are hand numbered with gorgeous packaging by Frances Castle.
'Roberts is one of our most talented, important and relevant songwriters and song-adapters, and this album does nothing to change that view. It is typically bold, distinctive and refreshing.' - Folk Radio

While in Japan, and inspired by childhood memories of the Herefordshire landscape, Mars pieced together string and Mellotron soundscapes using archaic tracker software. Finished on his return to the UK, the album is full of ambitious and beautifully realised neo-classical chamber music.
These second, Hollyhock editions are hand numbered, with a reverse board matte cover and printed inner sleeve.
'...a collection of sonic essays that drink from rich musical fountains such as...Vaughan Williams, Benjamin Britten...(to) the earlier ground-breaking work of Dvorak and Mahler.' - Active Listener
