Domenico Crisci - Ceremony Ep

After 2 blinding releases on LIES and Russian Torrents, the Italian uprising techno producer Domenico Crisci lands on fellow italian Marco Shuttle's label Eerie with some serious, 909 driven, stripped down techno biz'. No matter how pretentious it might sound these are tracks that gravitate quite comfortably in a Mills-esque kind of orbit but they somehow also remind of early Downwards brutal material. Label boss Marco Shuttle features in the EP with a remix of one of the tracks (Lash) bringing the original into a more broken, abstract and dark (of course) territory.

Black Asteroid - Black Acid

After exploding onto the scene last year with the highly charged and widely acclaimed CLR debut, 'The Engine EP', Bryan Black revises his BLACKASTEROID guise to present 'Black Acid': five tracks of lab-crafted techno, and a deeply groovy entry into the Electric Deluxe stable. Whilst BLACKASTEROID is still a fairly fledgling endeavour, Black's production credentials are as rich as they are steeped. Starting out at Paisley Park Studios as a sound designer for Prince, Black proceeded to foment a passion for techno as the other half of Motor. Signed to Novamute in 2003, over the course of nearly a decade Black and his partner Olivier Grasset consolidated EBM, industrial, pop and electro fusions into four albums and a string of EPs. But it is as BLACKASTEROID that Black has come into his own as a unique and highly skilled sonic engineer, with 'Black Acid' marking further steps towards a purer, and yet boundless engagement with techno. 'This EP is about chemistry and space. I chose to focus on raw, analogue sounds. I spent a lot of time playing with white noise, static and sub bass, often layering them together and coming up with new sounds in the process.' From the EP's punchy granular title track to the meticulous disorder surrounding 'Hydrogen' and palette of alien, mechanical sounds that proliferate throughout-distinctly towards the EP's space-themed closers: 'Pressure", 'Lunar Landing' and 'Lunar Escape"-'Black Acid' is an inventive and ever intriguing record. Like some estranged and maverick alchemist, Bryan Black mixes drops of discordant home-brewed noise with plenty of infectious floor-ready rhythms to form compounds that transcend straight listening and danceable orientations. Indeed, whether an aficionado of sound or simple beat junkie, 'Black Acid' will lure you in with one and hook you with the other. Turn up the bass and dive deep into its timbres to discover the weird and wonderful vistas of BLACKASTEROID's sonic imagining.

Chris Stanford, Dax J & Gareth Wild - Kommand Ep

EarToGround Records 3rd consecutive vinyl only release, once again features as a limited pressing on high quality black wax and is likely to be seen by techno purists as ready to go dj ammunition for a variety of dance floors, as each track & remix carries its own identity. Aptly titled the 'Kommand EP' after it's strikingly powerful A Side, ETG002 see's the return of resident label artists and firmly rooted crew members, 'Chris Stanford & Dax J' after their well respected debut e.p 'Programm' on ETG001. The hard-hitting rumble of Kommand, is traditionally industrial with a memorable hypnotic lead. Which during its journey falls into a misty pad of resembling a dark chamber. The 'Demented Drums remix of the title song comes from the mysterious duo 'AnD'. Hailing from Manchester in the North of England their destructive pounding distortive bass rides sweetly on it's driving broken beats, shortly after it's filtered intro, a chiming of well crafted cowbells join forces with a re-arranged version of the mind teasing lead of the original track.

Mario Diaz De Leon - The Soul Is The Arena

Mario Diaz de Leon is emerging as a singular voice in contemporary music. With a body of work that cannot be neatly categorized, his music is marked by a sound that is both hallucinatory and intensely physical. Born in Minnesota, Diaz de Leon expanded from his early years in metal and hardcore punk to immerse himself in the work of 20th century composers Scelsi, Ligeti, Dumitrescu, and Xenakis, free improvisation, a wide range of electronic music, and noise / industrial music. Based in NYC since 2004, he completed a doctorate in music composition while also immersing himself in NYC's experimental, noise, and underground metal scenes. His debut album as composer, ""Enter Houses Of"", was released in 2009 on John Zorn's Tzadik label and praised by the New York Times for its "hallucinatory intensity". As a solo performer, he is active under the name Oneirogen (o-NI-ro-jen), a project known for its merging of ethereal synths, brutal distortion, and noise influences. Since 2012, Oneirogen has toured internationally and released two full lengths and one EP on the Denovali label. "The Soul is the Arena" is the long awaited follow up to his 2009 composer debut, and the first release of his classical works for Denovali. The album's three tracks find Diaz de Leon deepening his collaboration with the core members of ICE, now a decade long. The mythological trope of the labyrinth, where a winding path leads to a central event that demands a fundamental change of direction, features heavily in the album's blend of acoustic and electronic elements, where a wide variety of ideas are unified by continuous momentum and arresting points of climax. Visionary and immersive, this is a bold body of work from an emerging master of modern composition. Vinyl: thick gatefold sleeves + black polylined inner sleeves, different vinyl colors, 180g +download. CD digipak.

Semantica Records
30.10.2015

Repress Alert!
Famed Spanish techno artist Svreca is back on his own well regarded label, Semantica, with a new four track EP that is due for release in January. Entitled Narita, the release is inspired by, and dedicated to, Japan, and the tracks are a collage of all the experiences and emotions the producer has picked up there whilst on his travels. This release was also due to be the 44th on the label (which has now made it up to number 67) and so has clearly been cooking for a long time. Once again it proves the man behind it to be focused on stripped back and hypnotic grooves, shadowy textures and subliminal synths that are abstract and truly heady. Up first, 'Sleepless' is a spooky and hypnotic techno roller with icy pads and rubber drums that roll on like a haunted midnight train burrowning deep into your brain. 'Ebisu' is even more reserved, with just a light, skipping kick and tinkling, glassy keys suspending you in a wide open space of abstract atmospheric sound. On the flip side, 'Mountain Splitter' is more urgent and immediate, with nervy pads this time racing alongside woodpecker precision and supple drums. It's heady stuff that really distracts you from the world before finally 'Trance' is a wash of grainy white noise and groaning synths that soundtrack a word deep down in the depths of the ocean. Svreca is a master of getting deep inside both body and brain and does so in different but captivating ways with all four of these cuts.

These Hidden Hands - These Hidden Hands

Finally repressed!
Over half a decade since their creative partnership was first brought to the public's attention,
Tommy Four Seven and Alain reconvene after time spent establishing themselves within their own
respective fields to present These Hidden Hands; a musical long-player that exemplifies the pairs unique approach to production. If the 'Strix EP' saw them channel their energy solely towards the dancefloor, this project sees them at their most visceral, refreshingly embracing the extended format with a vigour akin to that first demonstrated on Tommy Four Seven's debut album for CLR, 'Primate'.From the confrontational textures of opener 'Trelesire', to the sonically abrasive 'Severed', it's clear that THH are far from just indebted to the innovators of old. The engulfing drama of 'When Told' and harrowing tension of 'Kheium' showcase their singular approach to sound design, their adept versatility in utilising both industrial tones and ethereal melodies. 'Laika', is a case in point. Scattered rhythms, gauzy synths and rugged atmospheres conjure a distressed nostalgia. 'Diesel', which was offered by the pair as the first tantalising glimpse into the project, melds sparse beats with a soaring, creature-like drone before the ghostly motifs of 'Hidden' bring the body of work to a natural close.

Ryuji Takeuchi - Invisible Armor Ep

Welcome to the 3rd vinyl release of Local Sound Network. Label owner, Ryuji Takeuchi, is on duty to drop this superb EP. Ryuji represents 2 off beat techno tracks with spectacular atmosphere, whereas, 2 remixes emphasize straight 4/4 rhythm patterns with even wider feeling. 'Veil' emphasizes strength and funk, on the other hand, Obscene Mannequin adds deepness and darkness to already-existing funky aspects in order to make it real brutal. 'Silhouette' comes with Asian alike horn sound with powerful offbeat rhythm sequence, whilst, Deepbass reconstructs it in his deep-bass manner, which makes the original sound even deeper, as if you're swimming in far deep somewhere. This is a well-balanced EP with 2 offbeat original tracks and 2 4/4 techno remixes, with deepness, darkness and funk inside throughout the whole EP. Demdike Stare - Testpressing#007: Rathe / Patchwork

Lucky #7 - the best Testpressing yet from Demdike Stare and the final instalment for the time being for a series that began almost two years ago.
Landing 6 months since their last raid, it's a dichotomy of dancefloor devilment, going hard for it on one side, and running ragged emotions on the other.
A-side 'Rathe' opens the doors of perception to a show-stopping bloom of heavenly voices and halfstep jungle, ratcheting the levels to heart-in-mouth effect with panoramic harmonies and ricochet drums that sound like a 2015 update of Windowlicker, all owing as much to Source Direct as Alice Coltrane.
B-side, 'Patchwork' is a whole other madness. Shocking in a different style, it consolidates swirling, norish samples nodding to Italian concrète with the kind of 2-step swerve heard on Artwork's 'Red' EP - proper feral, swinging business.
We seen and heard it go off in the dance and can safely confirm that it's one of the baddest joints in their now extensive catalogue...

Hodge & Facta - Spheres Of Costa Rica/visions

Bristol's Facta and Hodge are a pair of rising young producers who, more than most, have absorbed the influence of Tempa's early music and wielded it to create something defiantly their own. Hodge has been on a powerful run of form over the last two years, with a string of acclaimed 12's for Livity Sound, Idle Hands and Hotline striking a unique balance between brutalist sub-bass muscle and vortex-like whirls of voice and percussion. Facta's releases for Soundman Chronicles and Idle Hands have been equally striking - dark, hypnotic and dread-filled rollers for the moodiest of dancefloors.

You can hear both producers' approaches vying for attention on this collaborative 12', and the resulting tension turns the atmosphere electric. 'Spheres Of Costa Rica' draws a glancing sample of traditional chanted music into a dubbed-out, sidewinding riddim that seems to sink deeper and deeper as it plays, drawing your mind and feet along with it. Flip the record and 'Visions' mesmerises you further still: its swung drums summon the ghosts of UK garage, but blast them out into deep space, where fragmentary whorls of noise and firestorm sub-bass erupt all around you. As an EP it's a bold statement from all parties: dark, unerringly forward-thinking new music that takes Tempa's legacy in a vital new direction.

29.04.2014

Recored while reading Stanley Milgram's 'Obedience to Authority' the feelings of claustrophobia and brutality are slowly revealed across the album. The set opens with 'Agentic State' - an exercise in atmosphere and rhythm before moving into the more confined 'Obedience Experiment'. On side closer 'Antecedent Conditions' distant percussion interacts with analogue synths lying on a bed of industrial atmospheres. The second side is where things take on a darker and more oppressive turn. 'Situational Obligations' ramps up the distortion levels alongside a hypnotic, overridden bassdrum, propelling the incessant keys to create a suffocating listening experience. 'Remote Feedback' keeps up the driving momentum before 'Touch Proximity' brings the album to a close by taking a steps back without offering any comfort. Those who have noted the changes to the sound of The Boats of late will not doubt draw parallels to this latest solo transmission from one half of the duo.

Rick Saucedo - Heaven Was Blue

Rick Saucedo

Heaven Was Blue

12inchGUESS139
GUERSSEN
11.03.2015

First ever legit vinyl reissue of Rick Saucedo's mind-expanding, one-man, multi-tracked private press miracle in sound from 1978.

Heaven Was Blue' drifts in the same sonic milieu as fellow travelers in '60s square peg joy Darius, Marcus, D.R. Hooker (without the lounge allusions), or late period psych adventurers Michael Angelo and Bobb Trimble—and his concentration and vision equals or exceeds these international underground heroes.

Rick Saucedo is an internationally-known Elvis tribute artist, actor and singer-songwriter from Chicago. In 1978, after some years of doing his Elvis show, he decided he wanted to have his own identity, recording an album with his own songs. The idea of Heaven Was Blue' was born while he was doing the role of Elvis in the Broadway musical The Legend Lives On'. Influenced by The Beatles and Pink Floyd, Rick created Heaven Was Blue' for himself, as he didn't care about the music of the time. All instruments on the album were played by Rick with a couple of friends helping him out. Songs like Reality', which was written in a graveyard just after the passing of Mr. Presley or In My Mind', which dated back to 1967, written just after Sgt. Pepper' had come out, are prime examples of dreamy acid psych with Lennon-esque vocals, lysergic guitars & studio effects. There's also a couple of fuzz rockers with a strong '50s vibe and then there's the album centerpiece: the impressive 18-minute Heaven Was Blue' suite, which Rick envisioned as an acid trip dream'. In words of Patrick Lundborg: ...Saucedo pulls it off. Somehow like how you turn the wheels on a kaleidoscope, new melodies, guitar figures and arrangements emerge out of the old ones every three minutes, each sequence more swirling and enchanting that the last, with a sense of progression throughout.'

This expanded reissue offers a full extra album of bonus tracks:

Oh My God' was the conclusion to Reality' / In My Mind', recorded in 1978 but omitted from the original album at the last moment. Previously unreleased on vinyl until now.

Baby in the Sand / It Burns Again Today' were written during the 'Heaven Was Blue' sessions but went unrecorded until 1991 and they're terrific sitar-drenched melodic psych in the same vein as the original album. Previously unreleased on vinyl until now.

And there's also both sides of the post- album single Reality' b/w History Makin' - Country Shakin',' which featured different mixes and an alternate mix of Reality'. These tracks were originally released as promo 45s in very limited quantities.

Master tape sound Original artwork
Insert including an interview with Rick Saucedo and detailed liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Got Kinda Lost / Ugly Things).

Rick Saucedo is mainly known as an Illinois-based Elvis impersonator, and a successful one at that, but some time when the King's ghost wasn't looking he sneaked out and cut himself two sides of music that were as far to the other end of the spectrum as you can imagine, dreamy, melodic '60s-style psychedelia... Heaven Was Blue' is a montage of everything you hallucinated on the walls when discovering the greatness of psychedelia long ago: "Sunshine Superman," "Porpoise Song," "Renaissance Fair," "Matilda Mother," they're all in there—along with thunder and rain sound FX, meandering acid guitars, and howling dogs.'

Gunne, Florian Schirmacher & Zuckermann - Black Hawks Ep

taken from the album - bugs' by gunne

Hossa!

"Black Hawk" is the first single from the third album by Lebensfreude Records chief Gunne. Produced with Berlin beat bohemian Zuckermann and Wareika vocalist Florian Schirmacher, Gunne goes where no one has gone before. Consequently the track meanders between melancholic House and expressive Pop, while Florians structuring vocals provide a uniquely ensouled catchiness. Gunne & Zuckermann were never better and rarely was Florian more convincing. Class! The two remixes are very different in nature. Toby Dreher aims at the dark, sweaty club floor, while Ruede Hagelstein is dancing in a corn field dreamingly welcoming a fine summer morning. Yeah!

Dosh & Ghostband - Def Kith

Dosh&Ghostband

Def Kith

12inchABR0151
Anticon.
29.01.2015

With the Def Kith EP, the usually mononymous Martin Dosh and Jon "Ghostband" Davis debut their techno-addled, IDM-damaged brand of bass-blessed dance music. Across these three or four generous cuts ("Twin Speak" is digital only) we hear two "one-man-band" types becoming a single machine. It's the rhythm section's revenge as the respective drums and bass of countless jazz and odd-rock ensembles put their improvisatory chops to work, funneling a lifetime of wild musical obsessions (Sun Ra, Squarepusher, the RZA, Caribou) into their live electronica. You might look to "Twin Speak" as a sort of sampler platter. A warm blurt is soon usurped by a four-four pulse — a harbinger of the seemingly hundred-plus interlocking pieces that jitter and wobble their way to a manic 13-minute whole. Left-field sonics, Afro-Latin percussion, Chicago house, playful melodies, and squelching sequences get caught up in the swirl. Other tracks stay vibrant but occupy a more defined space. "False Starts" rattles through a dark, lush soundscape too fast for Forest Swords, but too slow for footwork. "Bristol Bounce" approximates a vision of Miami bass abstracted through its municipal namesake's rich history of aural experimentation. And "Tet a Tet" openly references the ever influential Kieran Hebden, but carves its own identity out of Jamaican dub, Moroder synth, and broken beat. Fourteen minutes later: silence. But not for long. Dosh & Ghostband are hard at work on a full-length album — due on Anticon in 2015.

Minneapolitan music men Martin Dosh and Jon Davis unite as Dosh & Ghostband. Together, they wreck speakers and minds with techno-addled, IDM-damaged, bass 'n' bliss groove music. They've accomplished all kinds of admirable feats apart, it's true. Together, however, the pair have discovered a brotherhood that not only speaks to their shared history in a jazz-rich Twin Cities scene, but which holds these two in a mind-meld of melody and rhythm.
Their music is electronic, yes, but composed and recorded live in a Minnesota basement — Martin's home studio, from which he's churned out an impressive oeuvre of loop-driven instrumentals under his last name over the years. While the "Dosh" work sets those songs apart from his membership in bands like Fog, the Cloak Ox, and Andrew Bird's crew, his solo stuff is never made in a vacuum. In fact, Jon's bass is the first sound heard on the first Dosh album, sampled from a 4-track tape of the two jamming in the late '90s. They've been playing together for years, just usually in live ensembles with Martin on drums and Jon completing the rhythm section or on clarinet.

Third Ear
25.11.2013

Third Ear drops five cuts from MGUN (Manuel Gonzales). Harsh and abrasive, aching and reflective by turns, the grainy sound of this music creates an aura all its own as the sounds resonate and reverberate against each other in deliberately unpredictable ways. Having first emerged on the Wild Oats release 'Laygo My Faygo' as part of NSNT PRJCT alongside Kyle Hall in 2010, Detroit's Manuel Gonzales has gradually found his own voice. 1-Extort is raw abrasive techno with subtle bass tunings and insistent skittering sonics rattling around the top of the soundscape. 2-Mean While inhabits the same environment but seems to be slightly removed from the havoc. Rather than the insistent banging of the Extort groove, the kick drum seems constantly to be about to fall over, while the skittering becomes a kind of compressed chattering. 3-Fiber is Detroit Electro at its finest but sounding scorched and on fire. 4-Mask sets up a kind of dread hauled over clanking insistent beats before remarkably morphing into a suspended beauty somehow deferred, by only subtly changing the arrangement or the sounds used. 5-Taft is a version of Fiber, more dazzling and more assured, but like most of these tracks is cut off mercilessly and with brutal delay destroying the groove without any warning for the hapless DJ not paying attention.

Deepbass & Ness - Conspiracy Ep

Returning to Dynamic Reflection after their previous digital-only 'Distance' EP are Deepbass from the UK and Ness from Italy; this time around to drop their brand new 'Conspiracy' vinyl which contains two original tracks and a remix from fellow Italian Giorgio Gigli.
Introducing the EP's sound and feel is 'Flight 103', an eerie title likely referring to the airplane code of the Pan Am flight involved in the Lockerbie incident in 1988. The accompanying track is a sinister, brooding whole built around an interplay of subtle sounds and echoes. Chills guaranteed with this one.
Second on the EP is a track dubbed 'Chemtrails'; the idea of government control through the use of chemicals in aircraft trails. Deepbass and Ness quite vividly display a fondness of conspiratory thoughts and atmospheric, spacey techno. Continuing the vibe of the first track 'Chemtrails' invites the user to enter a strange, unknown state of consciousness pondering this intriguing theory while getting carried off on waves of distant and strangely soothing sounds. Dub-bomb spotted.
Remixing 'Chemtrails' and completing the EP is Giorgi Gigli of Zooloft fame, whose re-envisioning is well over 10 minutes in length. This might be problematic for many a track or producer, but not so for Gigli. He manages to keep the original's feel, even add a bit of aggressiveness and morph it into a developing sum of its parts that keeps one firmly in its grip all they way through. Hats off.

Drumcell - Disturbance Pfirter Remix

On August 30th 2013 CLR released the debut album of our new label member Drumcell entitled 'Sleep Complex".

The present CLR069 EP features three remixes of the first single 'Disturbance", a couple of them by Pfirter, which have already become two of Chris Liebing´s undisputed summer anthems and a third one by Tommy Four Seven, which once more shows his outstanding production skills as well as his love for unusual rhythms and deep, haunting atmospheres. Drumcell is one of the most intriguing and unconventional characters in the North American Techno scene and his Noise, Punk and Industrial roots can still be heard in everything he is doing. His total disregard for genre-limitations manifests in a clearly unique mixture of mind-bending, suspenseful and hypnotic Techno. With Pfirter and Tommy Four Seven, two remixers have been called to duty who completely internalised the dark, claustrophobic mood of the original and interpreted it into their excellent personal takes on 'Disturbance". Watching the video, a visual masterpiece by The Automatic Message, gives you an even closer idea of the clearly disturbing vibe that characterizes the first single of this milestone album. If you are into open-minded quality Techno full of truthful emotions, you should definitely pay attention to CLR069 and the upcoming Drumcell debut album 'Sleep Complex"!
