Of all of the personalities to emerge from the Mutek affiliated Montreal electronic music scene which exploded onto the global stage at the turn of the millennium Scott Monteith, better known to audiences worldwide as Deadbeat, has unquestionably shown himself to be its most prolific and restless spirit. Through a steady stream of critically acclaimed singles and 7 studio albums for labels such as ~Scape, Echocord, Wagon Repair and most recently his own BLKRTZ imprint, and his genre defining Radio Rothko mix, which drew comparisons to some of the greatest mix CDs of all time (Richie Hawtin's Decks, EFX & 909 : Jeff Mills's Live at the Liquid Room), Monteith has established himself as perhaps Dub Techno's greatest champion. Yet anyone intimately familiar with said catalog could rightly accuse even that lofty title of being an over simplification. In a genre dominated by stoic reverence to the creative framework laid down by Mark Ernestus and Mortiz Von Oswald's Basic Channel and related projects of the mid 90s, Monteith has consistently charted his own course over the last 13 years, tearing up and re-writing the rule book several times over. Having burrowed to the very deepest depths of echo and dread of the Jamaican variety with last year's hypnotic Drawn and Quartered album, Deadbeat once again sets sail into uncharted waters with his latest hour long salvo, humbly entitled Eight.

With their latest release, the Berlin-based duo NERKKIRN are following their path of experimental techno sounds, this time leading into dark shades of whirring electronic sounds. By creating a gloomy, yet groovy tune, Antifuse builds up a perfectly conductive path within the unique sound system of Snork Enterprises. Like a mysterious rollercoaster, four versatile tracks are pulling you into a vague ride through various spheres of electronic sounds. Starting off with high speed into the deep and gloomy mines of underground techno, Dipode unfolds its dark side in full blast. Moving forward, Antifuse chases you upside down on a roaring bass line merging into Electronichangover.There, in a reduced atmosphere of sound, subtle tunes still forcefully keep pushing you through an odd darkness until everything, then, flows into a slight glow at the end of the tunnel - Reversebias.

The band's second album is a major advance on its first, featuring superior singing, playing, and songwriting, as well as a more unified sound, without sacrificing the element of surprise in the first record. Many of the melodies and even the riffs here (check out Gary Green's first guitar flourish on "Pantagruel's Nativity") have a pretty high haunt count, and all of the musicianship displays an elegance seldom heard even in progressive circles -- but the record also, amazingly enough, rocks really hard as well. Elements of hard rock and Gregorian chants mix freely and, amazingly enough, well throughout this album.

Wendy Gondeln is here to introduce and spread the dance style called Fracking.

Gondeln, also known as the German painter Albert Oehlen and longtime Red Crayola member, recently laid out the aspects of Fracking in his studio in Düsseldorf.

Realising that one thing was missing, he asked Wolfgang Voigt to provide him with two plain Gabber bass drum canvases. Wendy, a great connaisseur of this ancient form of techno, considered the offerings from the unheralded prince of the German bass drum so precious that he drove to Cologne to pick them up personally. He managed to take the delights home safely, painted over them with his bow as if it was a brush and thus completed his vision of Fracking.

Wolfgang on the other hand, couldn't stop Fracking after Wendy's visit, which resulted not only in his first Fracking track, but in his first three. Included here in the form of a Fracking triptych.

When Magazine (Jens-Uwe Beyer, Crato, Barnt) heard of this new thing called Fracking, they had to start Fracking too. Of course. Not long before this text was written, these Frackings were brought back to Düsseldorf and tested towards the end of a frenzied set at the Salon Des Amateurs. And guess what people started as soon as the bow hit the violin...

Eldritch electro-acoustic explorer and uncompromising sound artist Luke Younger aka
Helm presents his first new material since casting the subterranean concrète psychedelia
of his 'Impossible Symmetry' album for PAN across end-of-year lists in 2012 and
petrifying numerable witnesses to his granite-hewn live set.
Issued as a split release between PAN and his own Alter label, 'Silencer' documents
four studio actions conducted in the wake of his renowned LP, charting the alchemical
relationships between base, stripped down rhythms, cruddy electronics and acousmatic
source material manipulated on cassette tapes. The magic of these four tracks lies in the
curious sense of detachment and friction between those fractured, awkwardly reactive
elements, klanging flinty drums against detuned, cryptic synth scrabble and buckled tape
FX to create charged and metaphysically affective atmospheres intended to corrode and
infect your listening space.
The title track follows a tumbling line of inquiry between primal percussive clatter and
salted, scratching synth drones into the boggy, noxious ambience and quaking bass slap
of 'Mirrored Palms', which features a desolate, sustained peal of foghorn brass from John
Hannon of Liberez. In the tunnel of 'Bergamo', effluent rhythms and vapourous brown
gases deliver a cold, claggy soundsphere, with Barrow-based multi-instrumentalist Tom
James Scott contributing metallic scrape to the para-dimensional murk and insectoid
shivers of 'The Haze'.

It's been twelve years since the first and last Mike Parker album called 'Dispatches". 12 years later, Prologue is very excited to host the second album from Mike and this time it's all about techno performed as a kind of ritual. Preternity' is a vinyl that collects together four of the most dynamic artists in electronic music delving into tracks from Dadub's forthcoming album 'You Are Eternity'. Dadub's album positions itself as part of an eternity which is forever recurring and in this context Lucy, Lakker, Rrose and Kangding Ray's remixes emerge as parallel versions of the original tracks. Revolving around the axis of 'You Are Eternity' the artists use analogue machines and digital devices to either encode or decode Dadub's vision. SA016 is preoccupied with sounds that point to our most basic assumptions. It's a collection of tracks that are determined to ask questions even if they can't really be answered. All four artists selected the Dadub track that they wanted to remake, and what has been pressed to vinyl are part instinctive reconfigurations and part reflected rethinkings of that source material. Pulse One is the new signing of Granulart Recordings, three tracks from pure to emotional techno plus two remixes from label boss Valentin Corujo aka Kessell.

If you like your techno bruised and bleeding, you'd have taken note of Manchester's AnD. Over the last few years they've been making their presence known with a series of unbridled releases for labels like Horizontal Ground, Black Sun Records, Repitch Recordings and their own self-titled stable. 'Harder' has indeed been the duo's mantra, bellowed stony-faced from the rasping recedes of industrial's brittle outer rim. But it hasn't always been this way. Before the broken bones and caustic, pitch-black tear-outs there's been deep and dubby reprieves, techy dubstep and even washed-out drum and bass on the likes of Idle Hands, Project Squared and Hidden Hawaii all with equaled astuteness. It's clear there's little out of AnD's reach, and they're certainly not bowing down to anyone. 'Kundalini' then, AnD's debut EP for Electric Deluxe, is not something to be taken lightly. The EP opens with a trio of patented AnD-style monsters, cataclysmic techno siblings all venomous and rusted through. It's a dark and unforgiving trail with these guys as drill sergeant, until 'ICDBYC' that is. Not quite the calm before the storm, here we have AnD pull back from the bloody onslaught to turn a cleaner, more calculated sort of weapon. Cool and tactical shadow skulking, trimmed with IDM. This one is just as deadly!

If previous releases for Nihilist, Arbor and his own Catholic Tapes established Chicago's Brett Naucke as one of the more accomplished practitioners in the American synth underground, "Seed", his debut LP for Spectrum Spools, is a veritable career apex, brimming with sonic ingenuity, detail, and mastery over both instrument and musical form. It is hard to fathom due to the sheer diversity of sound and affectations of the eight individual pieces on the album, but "Seed" was recorded - almost impossibly - with the same synth patch, slightly modified for the unveiling of each track

Edit Select and Dino Sabatini join forces together for their debut on Motoguzzi Records. An original electronic disciple hailing from New York, Sandwell District's David Sumner a.k.a Function presents his debut album 'Incubation' on Ostgut Ton. Like the soundtrack to a suspenseful Techno-thriller, or retro-futurist Sci-Fi tale, it's a modern sound journey heavy on imagery. Over nine tracks we are guided through the varying moods and scenes of Function's musical temperament. Be it through writhing layered club tracks, soaring string-led atmospheres, or melodic pieces founded on classic electronic traditions, 'Incubation' marks a new level of maturity for the Berlin-based producer. What begins as a lush and blossoming lesson in ambient synth arrangements, with the beautiful arpeggios and waveforms of 'Voiceprint', quickly drops off the apex and into the depths of Function's filtering acid world as 'Against The Wall' unfolds. This metallic, acidic concept is explored further too, in the final moments of the album with the chilling 'Psychic Warfare'. A spiraling, organic surge of warm synth tones and other-worldly arpeggios unravels itself in 'Counterpoint', acting as an early bridge between some of the drum-led studies that follow. And thus, the pressure increases. 'Modifier' presents itself with tight, snaking drum patterns and tense, late 90s kinetic warehouse energy. Opening a path into an alternate, yet not too distant dimension then, 'Incubation (Ritual)' takes form; it's haunting and graceful waves of synths continue the Sci-Fi theme, while the tough modulating bass undercurrent reminds us of Function's big-room Techno appeal. The final moments of 'Incubation (Ritual)' glide effortlessly into the album version of 'Inter', where ethereal melodies and snippets of spoken word surround a classic IDM-Deep-House core. 'Voiceprint' returns as a (Reprise) version, in what could become the crossover club track of the year. Coming on like a classic R&S or Soma release circa '95, the undulating synths are now caught in a rapturous groove, urged on by a perfect 909 drum pattern and forward pushing, precise arrangement. Taking the minimalistic, hypnotising mantra of previous Function 12''s like 'Isolation' or 'Burn' to another level, 'Psychic Warfare' brings the voyage to a a close, it's overlapping, ebbing metallic acid tones inducing equal measures of tension and elation. In the CD version of the album, 'Gradient I' concludes the voyage. Earthy, modulating bass and 808 patterns merge as a cyclic, audio resolution occurs. With a final, intense atmospheric wash we find ourselves re-born, out in the ether, having witnessed an event of great weight and substance. In the final mixing stages of the album Function brought the material to cult engineer and producer Tobias Freund (NSI). Since 1980, working with the legendary Frank Farian, Freund's skills helped bring acts like the controversial Grammy award-winning Milli Vanilli to fame, and he would pioneer early European Techno and Electronica through his Sieg Über Die Sonne project (with Dandy Jack). Function chose Tobias to do his work justice, and add his years of mix experience to this ambitious, succinct and artistic album. Bound in mysticism, forged through experience, 'Incubation' is a bold and powerful album from one of modern Techno's key players. Inclined to hold back, rather than release too much, Function has let his sound develop and mature, fusing analog synths and drums with modern production techniques to create something unique and timeless.

Horror Boogie has combined two firm favourites for the fourth release. Sick of techno taking itself too seriously, 3D!T aka Ed Giles decided to start writing music that was different to the endless sea of uninteresting records on offer, injecting large doses of humour and originality to his sound. Ed is an integral part of the wonky scene, earning his solid reputation and major respect through releases on Ugly Funk, Shed, Don't, Coin Op, Miditonal and with his insane live sets of glitchy, breaky, wobbly, jacking, warped techno.
A1 - 'Giant Chickens' has been a big track in his live sets for some time now. This carnival of wonk always sets the crowd off.
A2 - 'The Thing' is a bass heavy, driving track with intense ravey stabs. Formerly one half of Queaver and Versis, who had several big releases, most notably on Miditonal and were known for their crazy hardware live sets, Queaver keeps the typical Q&V sound alive enlarged with analog synthesizers and 8-bit sounds coming from the classic paddle game boy.
B1 - 'Yeah or !' is a slice of great jacking techno, with it's skippy hats and stabs that have an almost Detroit-esque feel to them.
B2 - 'Work Me' is a pounding, peak-time jacking monster, with slamming kicks and that trademark Queaver sound.

3TH keep on releasing techno with an eclectic vision, each track has its different shades and rhythmic approaches. Act 83 and 86 are both powerful tools that are lead by acidic repetitive patterns and distortions. Act 100 contains a raw and strong beat that travels through cosmic and "epic" soundscapes. As conclusion, Act 63 is characterized by emotional melancholic melodies and brain-dance music, accompanied by succession of rousing rhythmic evolutions.

Slipping Control derives from the text piece "Tztztztzt Î Í Í...." wrote last year by Ben Vida (and published as a book by Shelter Press). Composed to act as a score, a sound piece and as raw data for electronic control source, Tztztztzt Î Í Í... became the intrinsic element that tied all different pieces of art made by Ben Vida.

Over the past few years Lucy's label, Stroboscopic Artefacts, has became a watchword for techno's vanguard - providing a platform for new artists pushing at the genre's boundaries and a harbor for some of the most experimental work from names you already recognize. Lucy's progress as a producer has followed that same trajectory, moving from relatively straightforward dancefloor-driven material to deeper, murkier places. While we are already looking forward to the release of the complete Traversable Wormhole album in the beginning of Spring, CLR is excited to present you this fascinating four track E.P. with remixes of original TW tracks by Northern Structures, Dasha Rush, Orphx and Monolith, four of the highly creative acts on Adam X's Sonic Groove label. The New York born and Berlin based producer has been writing some of his most mind-bending music under the guise of Traversable Wormhole and had the entire techno scene stunned and bewildered from the moment the first of the anonymously produced, ink stamped white labels appeared in spring 2009. When he finally identified himself as the creator of those mysterious vinyls in 2010, one of the most intriguing secrets in the recent history of techno was lifted and the surprise was complete. Adam X had done the kind of music nobody would have expected from him at this moment and had bypassed all possible preconceptions and prejudices by making it known without even mentioning it's composer. Traversable Wormhole is a profound and innovative, genre-crossing mix of straight-up, post-modern, sci-fi laden techno and industrial music beyond trends and hypes. Northern Structures, Dasha Rush, Orphx and Monolith have done incredible jobs at remixing those timeless tracks, adding their personal handwriting while always respecting the experimental and hypnotic nature of the originals
