Taking the boom of British bass culture and marrying it to the sweet slickness of classic American R&B, AlunaGeorge - aka Aluna Francis and producer George Reid - are excited to announce the details of their eagerly awaited debut album 'Body Music', released on July 29th via Island Records.
In the 12 months since their first release went viral, AlunaGeorge's DIY video for 'You Know You Like It' has clocked up over 2 million views, the band were crowned the most blogged artist of 2012, they sold out a European tour, performed at Moschino's catwalk show during London Fashion Week and made the top 3 for both last year's prestigious BRITS Critics Choice Award and the BBCs Sound of 2013 (#2). Princess Century is the alter ego of Maya Postepski, drummer and programmer with Domino Records-signed Austra.Canadian-born Maya also co-wrote and produced electronic outfit Trust's debut album, which was released on the Arts and Crafts label in 2012. Pitchfork 7.3, NME 7/10 Guardian New Band of the Day.Her anticipated debut album Lossless will be a limited 180 gram heavyweight vinyl run with stunning minimalist sleeve design and insert artwork by Maya herself. Lossless was mastered by Psapp's Carim Classman at his Fishtank Studio. Maya toured the world with Austra throughout 2012 and the band received critical acclaim from radio and press on both sides of the Atlantic, including New York magazine, Spin, Drowned in Sound, The Guardian, NME, BBC 6 Music.

After more than a decade of silence - no gigs, no music, no nothing - Gramme return with their debut album Fascination. The cult around the band and their lone release, the Pre-Release EP, continued to grow until in 2011 some mysterious 12" bootlegs of Like U began to appear, with edits by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip. A few months later self released white labels begin to circulate with new Gramme material. Those recent EP's have gone on to form Fascination, the first full studio album by Gramme.
Gramme is the musically pioneering band that went missing in action sometime around 2000. Originally signed to Trevor Jackson's Output label, the band emerged in the mid-nineties with a sound so out of step with the cultural milieu they found themselves swimming against the tide.
Originally a five piece, the band formed around a shared love of the emotional melancholy now synonymous with Factory artists such as Joy Division, Section 25 and A Certain Ratio. Gramme were attracted by Manchester's psycho disco of the early 80's and NY's subterranean proto punk-funk on 99 Records and bands like Liquid Liquid and ESG. The die was cast when, following a particularly intense Camden gig in 1996, the legendary DJ Nathan Gregory said the immortal words ' I love your band, but I dunno whether to dance or pogo!'. The individuality of Gramme around '97 remains their lasting signature.
The band recorded the seminal Pre-Release EP in 1997 but it was not released until 1999. The EP was produced by Trevor Jackson and was made in hours rather than days, accurately documenting the fever and sweat of those early sessions at Blackwing Studios in London. It was a cult hit and featured the track Like U which went on to be a favourite amongst those in know, including Hot Chip who included the track on their DJ Kicks compilation from 2007. Tim Goldsworthy and James Murphy have also acknowledged the influence of the EP on the early DFA sound.
Despite being signed and then dropped by their new label (Junior Boys Own) in 2001 and suffering from exhaustion caused by their punishing schedule, the band stayed together for a further year. The usual band disagreements and distrusts grew through the cracks and the project finally imploded sometime around January 2002. The wilderness years make sense now and where it was clear to some outside the band that they had stumbled across something extremely special, the band were lost in the deep woods of their own creativity.
Gramme 2012, now a streamlined four piece but equally as passionate and excited by the possibilities of their own music making. With three new 4 track E.P.s already on the shelves this year, reportedly selling out before the dust had time to settle. The next step is a 12 track long player scheduled for release in February on Tim 'Love' Lee's Tummy Touch Records. The album represents about two and a half years of sporadic but intense writing, jamming, recording and editing and at least three complete fresh starts. The aim was finally to create something immediate and in the present but something that would also stand the test of time. It needed to work in the club, the car and the kitchen simultaneously.

Like many of music's most gifted, Andrea Tirone, the 27-year-old Italian songwriter and producer behind Mind Enterprises, is a perennial outsider. Forming a post-punk band in his teens, he soon started to crave the UK's more vibrant music scene. Two years ago he decided to leave his family and friends in Italy; London, for Tirone, signified freedom, and a place where you could be surrounded by other oddballs and music obsessives, possibly even make a career out of it too. Once arriving to London, he armed himself with a laptop full of songs and made a list of 100 labels he wanted to send his music to. Luckily, one of the most exciting independent labels in the city, Double Denim Records, replied before he'd even got to ten. At the hazy end of last August, a taster single was released entitled 'Summer War'. It was soon after this that Because Music came on board. A perfect fit for Mind Enterprises, his eccentric and intricate recordings would be developed by the label who housed the talents of acts like Metronomy, Django Django - an ideal home for an artist who wants to experiment and mould their own genre. Now living in London and recording his debut, the change in location hasn't had much affect on his sound, mainly because Tirone works in darkness; curtains closed and laptop on, 'I can't work in light. You focus more on the sound in the dark.' As a result of the dream-like state his mind inhabits, his lyrics are more like a mantra, looping and weaving in and out of heavy beats and samples. It's this passionate nature which makes Mind Enterprises' soundscape so brash, beautiful, intuitive and full of imagination, and perhaps the reason he'll never quite fit in to any scene or category. Perhaps the reason why he'll succeed!

Sometimes what you don't do is as important as what you do. Brandt Brauer Frick have made name for themselves producing techno without the technology, using classical instruments in preference to synthesizers and computers. It's a negative that's had positive results. On the Berlin trios third album 'Miami', it's again what Brandt Brauer Frick are not doing that is once again important: they aren't slavishly following the formula of its two predecessors. ''Mr Machine' (2011's sophomore album) the record made with the (ten piece classical) ensemble, especially was very planned and strict,' says Paul Frick. 'We wanted to be more spontaneous this time. We wanted to do something very different, more dark and more rough. We wanted to write songs rather than tracks that slowly evolve.'

Often described as the Australian Screamers, Primitive Calculators was one of the few Aussie bands to mix minimal synth bass, scratchy guitars, repetitive drum machine beats that reminds their Californian cousins but also Cabaret Voltaire.This impossibly hard to find item is now available on vinyl for the first time till 1982 and this first pressing include an exact replica of the sleeve, black vinyl with black labels and postcard.

After bonding over their mutual love for French synthesizer music, all things Russian, and Serge Gainsbourg, Jenno Bjørnkjær and Katherine Mills Rymer formed OOFJ, whose distinctive chilled-out sounds find their way deep into your ear like an electronic ind gyrating with eerie symphonies plus the delicate sound of expensive-lingerie vocals, that could make you cry in a good-looking way. Recorded with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, OOFJ's ambitious debut Disco To Die To is ten darkly-tinted, downtempo movements of pop noir that simultaneously manage to reference disparate, touchstones and inspirations, Nico's hypnotic gloomy 60s folk, techno's minimalism and subtleties, Twin Peaks, the majestic symphonies of 20th century composers, and rhythms and structures equally indebted to jazz and trip-hop. Often all in the same song. Bjørnkjær and Rymer met in New York, while Jenno was playing in the band Hessismore and working on film music for Lars Von Trier's Melancholia. However OOFJ and Disco To Die To came about by accident at first. Originally OOFJ (Orchestra of Jenno) began as an instrumental solo project but everything fell into place with the addition of Katherine, transforming it into something larger in scope. After the passing of Katherine's father, they were in South Africa for the wake and upstairs in her brother's room they recorded the very first track. Two months later, while on a winter road trip through Europe, they recorded in the Swiss Alps, Germany and Copenhagen.

Mike Paradinas has been a pioneer and a mainstay of the electronic music scene for over 20 years now and 'Chewed Corners' is his first proper solo album since 2007. As the boss of electronic label Planet Mu, he's always been at the forefront of innovations and has released music by some of the most celebrated modern electronic artists around, from Benga, Kuedo and Machinedrum to Luke Vibert, Venetian Snares and FaltyDL to name just a few. Mike started both his career and µ-Ziq with the album 'Tango N'Vectif' back in 1993 which elevated him to the top of the league of British electronica producers alongside Black Dog and Aphex Twin. He has also been one of the few people to collaborate with Aphex Twin on the album 'Mike & Rich' and has released albums on Virgin, Astralwerks, Warp and Rephlex before releasing music on his own label Planet Mu. The album was written in the same period as Mike's recent Heterotic project (a collaboration with his wife Lara Rix-Martin and Warp's singer/songwriter Gravenhurst) while he was home alone. Mike says he intended the compositions 'to evoke drama and emotion' and while the music was made with no conscious influences, after listening back Mike says Kuedo, Aphex Twin, Chicago Footwork, Art of Noise, Orbital, Japan and Rustie must all have had an effect. While his last album, 2007's 'Duntisbourne Abbots Soulmate Devastation Technique', was at times as harrowing and miserable as its title suggests, 'Chewed Corners' is almost the polar opposite, relaxed, self-possessed, and a pleasure to listen to. The innovation is subtle and inviting and it exudes happiness. It also foregrounds probably one of Mike's most important characteristics - something that has always shone through his far-reaching experimentation and kept it sounding both personal and accessible - his knack for great melody and lush arrangements. 'Chewed Corners' sidesteps affiliations to any genre; instead it's a suite of 14 retro-futurist tracks, created with a lush, analogue sounding palette. It's a gentle ride which, even when it nods to aggressive music like footwork (on the track 'Tickly Flanks') still manages to find a way to breathe light and joy into the framework. For every woozy moment there's a strong melody that hooks the strangeness in. The seasick chords in 'Wipe' are held together by a building chorus and muscular drum patterns, 'Hug's slow, strange 808 drum patterns and choral synths are underpinned by a lush, warm fretless bass sound. 'Smooch' has meditative, wafting electronics with chords and rhythm that intersect with 80's funk. 'Christ Dust' uses synths that wouldn't have been out of place on the 'Equalizer' soundtrack, but with the circadian-like clicking of high hats and swirling synths adding a distinctively otherworldly feel to the track. It's classic µ-Ziq, which has taken stock and allowed the best parts of his abilities to shine through.

Now working at The Center For The Advancement Of Transmodern Awareness and studying at Vocaloid School prior to that, Redwine is musically trained in piano and the Kansas-born and now Chicago-based Ultrademon is leading the current and controversial 'Seapunk' movement, which emerged from a dream his friend once had.
There's no concrete evidence of piracy but pop culture has indeed seen recent splashes of aquamarine: Nicki Minaj painted her skin blue for a Vogue shoot; Katy Perry wore a turquoise bob, Rihanna adopted the design aesthetic and a Google Image search of 'seapunk' pulls up a photo of Lady Gaga with a neon blue wig.
Seapunk is a mostly internet based phenomenon, featuring a sort of cyber punk meets futuristic Mad-Max on water attitude meant for those who can surf the gnarliest swells of the world wide wave. They can be spotted around in bright outfits of green, purple, ultra violet, and sea foam blue, wearing water socks, sporting shell necklaces and Hawaiian floral print shirts.
Music-wise Seapunk is a style of electronic music that incorporates bits of 90s house and techno, the past 15 years or so of pop and R&B, and the latest in southern trap rap—all overlaid with a twinkly, narcotic energy that recalls new-age music, 16-bit era video games and chopped-and-screwed hip-hop mix tapes in roughly equal measure.
Over the years and in rapid fashion, the front man's positive vision of trans-humanism and heightening awareness through music via 'Seapunk' has amassed a loyal and cult legion of followers both online and in real life. His ocean-themed digital paradise philosophy continues with his own imprint, Coral Records Internazionale, which was formed in September 2011 as a way to transform the flotsam and jetsam of the digital electronic underground into something more physically permanent. Its music less DJ oriented but still paying homage to the roots of electronic dance music.

Wilde Calm Records is proud to present 'Some Say,' a recently discovered song from the archive of Arthur Russell. The track was produced and mixed by Arthur in 1985 for a solo project of Steven Hall's that was originally intended for release on Rough Trade Records. Legendary disco producer Bob Blank recorded and engineered the project at his Connecticut-based studio. 'Some Say' features Arthur's classic cello basslines, cracking boom bap drums and Steven's floating vocals and synth pads. In true Arthur fashion, the song abrubtly stutters, slinks and lurches halfway through for Steven to complete his Buddhist pop mantra.
The B-side features an extended rework of 'Some Say' by Pocketknife using Arthur's BOSS Dr. Rhythm DR-55 drum machine.

Tokyo electronic artist Nobuyuki Sakuma began her JESSE RUINS project a couple of years back along the way releasing songs for compilations, a single for Double Denim Records and then an EP for Captured Tracks last year. Garnering the assistance of multi-instrumentalist Nah and most recently drummer Yosuke Tuchida, JESSE RUINS is now a fully fledged trio and are set to release their debut album, A Film. It's a diverse affair, powerfully beat driven yet contemplative, starry eyed yet washed out. First single, Laura Is Fading is a perfect example of this. A four four beat and pumping bass propels the track along as peculiar, almost abyss like synths provide a melody from, seemingly, another world.

Italian post rock and cosmic disco duo Crimea X have finished their second album, Another. It comes 2 years after their last effort, Prospective, and explores the same laidback yet spaced out sounds laced with intergalactic guitar riffs, wobbly pianos and skewed synth patterns that DJ Rocca (aka Lucca Roccatagliati, producer for Daniele Baldelli, Ajello and Dimitri From Paris's partner in the Erodiscotique project) and Jukka Reverberi (Giardini di Mirò) have championed since first getting together. In that time, the pair have become hugely admired cult figures in their respective worlds, pioneering sounds and garnering adoring support wherever they go. First singles from the album such as 'Yev' have already been doing the rounds, finding favour with musicos like Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Justin Robertson and Tim Sweeney, whilst the album itself was produced by Norwegian legend Bjorn Torske who spent 10 days in the studio with the duo before returning home to mix it in Bergen.
