Disruption and interference aren't words you ordinarily associate with pop or dance music, but Planningtorock is on a mission to unseat all norms. *Four years after Fuck Buttons' Benjamin John Power and Andrew Hung dropped the second of two of the most unparalleled electronic-driven albums in recent memory, with the hyper-acceleration of 2009's blistering Tarot Sport, the duo return with a new album Slow Focus, their first self-produced record, and one that looks set to re-shape the landscape of the leftfield all over again.
*Once again abiding by their fundamental rule that 'we must always be in the same room when writing,' what Fuck Buttons have created on Slow Focus is something that feels more close-up than ever before, a first-person view through winding pathways set against a frequently aggressive and constantly evolving terrain. It's an ominously shimmering mirage that could only have come from their own volition. 'Slow Focus seemed like a very apt title when considering the sentiment of the music,' comments Benjamin John Power, 'It almost feels like the moment your eyes take to readjust when waking, and realising you're in a very unusual and not a particularly welcoming place. We like to think that we create our own new landscapes, and with this it's a very alien one.'
*You could argue this is the first album where the pair have really gone all in, taking control right down to producing it at their own Space Mountain studio. 'We've used producers as safety nets in the past,' says Andrew Hung, 'but we've always had a very specific idea of what our music should sound like and so it became about following the logical path.'
*Between them, Fuck Buttons have been busy behind the scenes in the intermediate four years since Tarot Sport, but they were flung out into the perception of the global public last year when Danny Boyle opted to use their music in his breathtaking Olympics opening ceremony in London, after recommendations from techno veterans Underworld. Now they're ready to face the limelight again in full, with a string of European festival dates coming up, including Primavera, Glastonbury and Green Man. It's been a while since we heard from them, but Slow Focus looks set to further establish Fuck Buttons reputation as one of the most arresting electronic acts in the world today.

Dafür sprechen auch die potenziellen Singleauskopplungen: "Bassline" folgt einem Talk-Talk-Klavierlauf, der auf eine Depeche-Mode-Basslinie trifft, und so das Zeug zum Indie-Hit hat. "What To Wear" wiederum hat reichlich Radiopotenzial und wartet mit klassischen Popchören auf.

A powerful metaphor for new love forms the centre of Bonobo's new single, First Fires. A perfect representation of what makes new album The North Borders so profound, Grey Reverend's verbal subject matter is married inextricably to Simon Green's delicate, highly charged production. This is no random guest vocal, it's a perfectly conceived, powerfully moving love song. The opening bars evoke the tentative drama of beginning to fall in love; the bass textures and gradually strengthening percussion fill the listener with anticipation. Green is now a master of his art, his genius showing in the small touches - delicate percussions, beautiful, unexpected chord changes - and adding up to a bigger picture that's genuinely moving. The track swells and swirls, moving naturally from a minimal beginning to something much fuller and richer. The more emotionally in touch among us might compare that to the process of love itself.

B side "Heaven For the Sinner", Bonobo's much vaunted collaboration with the legendary Erykah Badu, makes this single a true microcosm of The North Borders itself. Brimming with confidently expressed emotion, thrilling change- ups and a beautiful performance from Badu, it sees Green at the absolute peak of his powers. "Heaven For the Sinner" is a genuine meeting of minds, and in Erykah Badu, Bonobo appears to have found a true musical soulmate, and the ultimate vocal expression of where he's at as a musician.
Finally, bonus track "Know You" allows the music to breathe and focuses on moving the feet as much as the mind. A two-step glitch drives shifting textures and a dramatic arpeggio before giving way to a vocal clip that deepens the song's mood. It's difficult to imagine a better way to dive headlong into The North Borders' wonders.

'Won't Look Back', the glossy yet deep electro power ballad from Little Jinder's 2013 'Break Up' album, gets the remix treatment from two of her Stockholm friends who also happen to be some of the hottest underground house producers around. Kornél Kovács and Baba Stiltz, both representing Stockholm's Studio Barnhus posse, the former runs the whole shebang together with Axel Boman and Pedrodollar, the latter has an album coming up on the label this year, deliver two very different takes on the song - Baba goes all deep and murky while Kornél gives the track a dubby disco twist. With the original version sealing the deal, this is a fine example of the ongoing cross-fertilization between Sweden's pop and dance music scenes.

Ike Yard came into being as No Wave passed on, Industrial was in the air and 'proto techno' had yet to be coined. Propulsive, paranoid, aggressive electro minimalism, with as much attention paid to the mixing board and effects processors as to vocals, guitar and synth. At once starker and more fully-formed than virtually all other contemporaneous post-punk music. desire's 2012 edition represents the first ever vinyl reissue of this classic, prophetic album.

The line-up for the third remix EP includes a great deal of diverse music. It starts with Powell (Diagonal Records) doing a great beat-driven rework of Half A God. It has been mastered by Matt Colton @ Alchemy Mastering. The A side is closing with The KVB doing a post-punk rendition of Cherish 8. Cherish 8 is also remixed on the B side by Vessel of Tri Angle/ Young Echo fame. The last remix (of NCR) is signed by UK enigmatic industrial/dubstep Bandshell.

Ike Yard was originally a quartet comprising Michael Diekmann, Stuart Argabright, Kenneth Compton and Fred Szymanski. The group are active again after a 28 year hiatus, sans Szymanski; their most recent album is 2011's Nord and they are currently working on a final album.

Their line-up consists of Joel Stone, ex-Shitdisco, on synths and electronics and Andy Brown, formerly of Divorce and still currently in Remember Remember, on drums and percussion. With UBRE BLANCA Joel and Andy wanted to explore their shared love of synth-based music and film soundtracks from the 1970s and 80s, pulsing, dark and exploratory experiments in texture and rhythm that reference composers such as Giorgio Moroder, John Carpenter, Claudio Simonetti and Mike Oldfield.

Britain's most-loved, quintessentially English, modern pop act Metronomy, return after 18 months with comeback single 'I'm Aquarius' announcing the release of the new album 'Love Letters' in march 2014. Metronomy is the creation of singer, writer and producer and expert musician Joseph Mount. In its execution, Love Letters tries to do fresh things in an old-fashioned way. It takes richer methods of recording and injects them with the shock of the new - of tight electronics, and experiments in sound. It does so not to be retro, but to embrace the quality standards of the past. It also aims to be up there with the greats, reaching for those old stars. Mount never wanted to rest on his laurels as a writer, either. Instead, he wanted a new challenge, and to learn discipline. It helped that something was coming along to focus him naturally - the birth of his first child. For him, the pram in the hall wasn't the enemy of art. It was his enabler.As Mount knuckled down to work, the idea of using Toe Rag kicked in. Instead of constructing his music on computers, he would use classic, slower techniques that would force him to take time in the best possible sense. By recording onto tape, he would also be forced to think about his music more purely, construct it with more finesse, and enjoy exploring its possibilities. Down a quiet driveway in East London is an old-fashioned studio. It's the home of analogue sound, of warm, dusty machines, where the ambitions of independent artists get turned into classic recordings. It's also where Metronomy made Love Letters, that classic electronic pop album, which is still sending its message straight to your heart.

Andrew Fox has spent nearly a decade in New York City sketching psychic spaces and emotions like a cinematographer in conversation with himself, reckoning with demons, seeking understanding. His debut four-song EP as VISUALS arrives October 27th on Nicolas Jaar's Other People imprint. Fox formed a three-piece band called VISUALS in 2012, choosing the name as an oblique reference to a debilitating ocular disorder he suffered as a child. His previous releases were a series of cryptic self-released 7 singles written in collaboration with drummer Marshall Ryan—but Fox felt further development was still needed. He went into hibernation, experimenting and playing solo electronics sets in small NY venues, and writing new songs. VISUALS' EP is a collaborative relay race between like minds. After recording and producing much of the arrangements himself, Fox handed the songs off to Darkside guitarist Dave Harrington for a final round of mixing and edits. His partner Nicolas Jaar finished the job, lending the record a distinctive psychedelic thump that fits Fox's songs hand-in-glove. Over the course of its all-too-brief runtime, VISUALS' EP pits the soulful against the inhuman, evoking everything from Broadcast's eerie, hermetic pop experimentation to Prince's minimalist sex funk. Songs like 'Solve for X' and 'Remote Control' are bottom-heavy love songs to an uncertain future, propelling Fox's cracked, weather-beaten drawl through a gauntlet of rubber-band basslines, bone-dry drum machines and deft sample manipulation. While much of VISUALS' EP is a clear product of the dog days of the early 21st century, closing track 'Fifteen' is something else altogether, a transmission from the heart of Old Weird America, all acoustic guitars, telephonic vocals and unsteady drums.

Gravel is an attempt to capture the contradictory thoughts that trip up your head at 3 a.m. Gravel is the soundtrack to sleepless nights spent ruminating on both right and wrong decisions. Gravel is the new Anticon EP from Djavan Santos, better known as D33J. Upon first listen, its aquatic textures, faded neon haze, and blend of 808 drums and lo-fi desk claps, might recall D33J's fellow Weditit Collective family, Ryan Hemsworth and Shlohmo. But closer listening reveals that D33J's experiments yield a unique alchemy. 'It was about self-reflection—trying to replicate the feeling of sitting alone after you get home late, still drunk and on drugs,' D33J says. 'You're high and thinking about life and whether these stoned thoughts are even worth anything in the end'The record was created during D33J's stint living with 30 people in a warehouse in downtown San Francisco. The building was essentially an art frat called 'The Matrix 1061,' with almost all the inhabitants engaging in some form of creative project. Adding to the artistic ferment was the fact that only two rooms got natural sunlight. You can hear this darkness and fluorescent light in the tones of Gravel.'My room lacked sunlight, so if I wanted to escape the social mosh-pit I'd turn the lights off and pretend I was gone—sometimes for hours,' D33J says. 'I'm self-conscious of my singing, so I'd sing into the computer mic so people wouldn't hear my vocals bleeding through the paper thin walls.'This experiment from necessity led to the record's particularly intimate vibe. It's only light is the one emanating from lit spliffs and the LED glow of the computer screen. It boasts a weird digital rawness destined to feel vintage in some far-off future. But don't pigeonhole D33J as just another bedroom producer with low Serotonin levels. Gravel's gestation merely occurred during a period of great flux. Raised in Los Angeles, the 22-year old graduated from Hamilton High's Music program (Baths, Syd the Kid, Groundislava) and San Francisco Art Institute before making Gravel. He studied experimental audio and visual design and applied the theories and emotion to his record—most of it recorded over just one month. The finished result is not just only aesthetically cohesive record, but also one that bristles with the uneasy feeling of living in a compressed space. Largely a one-man project, D33J also pulled in a friend and neighbor, 'Kreyola' to contribute vocals whenever he'd be walking down the hallway. DJ Mag Top 100 Poll returns in October 2013 with another outstanding line up. This year fans of the biggest global dance poll are in store for a major treat, with 2013 being the 20 Year Anniversary of the infamous ballot. Ministry of Sound and DJ Mag have proudly joined forces for the 2nd year running with an enormous 3CD release including a selection of the Top 100 of 2013across CD 1 & 2 as well as a never before special edition bonus CD of the best voted DJ's from the past 20 years. The 3CD package includes all of 2013's top 10 and all past top 100 winners.

With the successful release of the 2012 edition, it is no surprise the largest dance music magazine has continued to collaborate with Ministry of Sound, the largest dance music label and internationally renowned club, to bring you an epic 3CD album packed with the biggest club tracks for release on the 21st October.

CD 1 features the current leading names in the electronic dance music scene including Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Hardwell, Porter Robinson, Knife Party, the first ever Top 100 winner Carl Cox and David Guetta.

CD 2 includes iconic acts that have pioneered trance and progressive house such as Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery, Orjan Nilsen, Dash Berlin, Lange, Markus Schulz and Cosmic Gate to name but a few.

The 3rd CD is dedicated to the 20 year anniversary with legendary names and tracks that have dominated the history of dance music and will forever be remembered for pioneering what we have today.
