Electronic arts pioneer, activist and researcher Konrad Becker (aka Monoton) teams up with vocalist Sela for a project with a mission: unveiling Operations in a shadow world of mediated realities. Linking 21st century technology to ancient communication practices in several directions at once the hypermedia wizard and the young Viennese singer celebrate the powers of media over matter. Sound becomes a weapon against operation systems of containment and to be buried alive by technologies of symbolic domination. Operations not only gives a voice to radical discourse - but basslines and a deep groove.

The four-track EP covers vocal tunes from the recent Operations performance series and short instrumental pieces for Theater of Operations. Based on Konrad Becker's Dictionary of Operations the cinematic live-show evokes phantasmagoric spheres of information environments with pulsing street sounds. Operations EP's imagery is inspired by vaudeville soirees conjuring miraculous wonders and 19th century spectacles of new technology as in the Theatre Houdin of Paris. Digitally recorded but designed in a 10" historic gramophone style, the record resembles artifacts from the enchanted twilight zones of circling quasi-objects. Possession an eerily deep tune grooved into side A is followed by crisply chilled beats of Enchantment; the other side unleashes scary Monsters on the Rise tailed by the convoluted noise dub Interlude.

- Possession is a 150bpm voodoo ritual addressing mediated flows, the spirits of commodities and states. Theaters of possession are the battleground for control of object and subject in information feudalism. In a setting of zombies and haunted property, offbeats trigger the coming of the Loas. On December 9th, electro-pop provocateurs Ladytron will release an exclusive of Gravity The Seducer Remixed - a remix compilation of tracks from their last studio album (Gravity The Seducer).

In speaking about the release, 'When we made our last studio album Gravity The Seducer we were conscious that although we wanted to make a slightly different kind of record (going further into the more atmospheric threads we had experimented with in the past), that our soul was essentially disco, and we would also make a more upbeat, parallel version of the record in collaboration with a dozen or so producers we admired. This is the eventual result, albeit a little behind schedule,' says Ladytron's Daniel Hunt.
Ladytron have earned acclaim by relentlessly pushing boundaries, carving out new sonic and conceptual space and refusing to abide any formula or trend.

Back in 2011 Dublin's Lasertom released a staggering 12" on Bearfunk Records as Lasertom and the Blast Crew. Fast forward to 2013 and we nabbed the Irish muso for a highly anticipated release with us here at Nang. Now, a few months on, he's back with an album groove-laden proportions titled 'Drift'. Lasertom makes laid-back, slo-mo disco with real instruments (bass, guitar, brass) in a style which just oozes quality.
The album kicks off with the title track, a mystifying groover with slinky drums, a bold piano riff and teasing electronics and guitars. A real restrained masterpiece. 'Innerspaceman' is an exercise in Cosmic downtempo brilliance, complete with ethereal vocal harmonies and mad synth runs.
'All The Time' comes in all cosmic motorik. Its machine rhythms and spaced out vocal details float amongst the synth detritus. 'Surprise' is more of a contemplative affair, melodic affair. 'Maelstrom' comes in slow but soon a pacey arp coming in to prelude a stomping, weirdo-disco synth track. Great stuff.

The MONUMENTS came into being in January 1981 in Turin when Mauro Tavella (keyboards, programming) and Andrea Costa (keyboards, voice) pooled their artistic experiences. From the outset they produced exclusively synthesised music, following the natural evolution in electronic music from the early days with monophonic synthesisers to the latest virtual sounds generated with the aid of computers.
The MONUMENTS released in 1984 their only official record on Discordie, a mini LP called "Age" comprising six incredibly fantastic electro-pop tracks, here reissued by Mannequin Records with 2 bonus tracks, "Veiled Lady" and "The Seals", which are out-takes from the same period. All the tracks were recorded on a Tascam 8-tracks, with external synchronisation of the percussions, at the TKS Studio in Torino.

From 1987 onwards, they focused exclusively on music for theatre, radio and independent film, writing scores for the opening sequences of programmes for some of the most important Italian TV companies as well as soundtracks
for documentaries.

Anna Logue Records released "XXVII" CD in 2009, an anthology of their music that contains the best of their early work from the years 1981-84.

Some critics thought of this mini LP as being the best electropop record ever coming out of Italy. A masterpiece!

Dukes of Chutney is John Paul Jones and Dustin Lynn, California born brothers from other cosmic mothers who met surfing over a decade ago.

The flavor of the Dukes' musical chutney is an abstract but balanced mixture of many disciplines. Under the moniker Tom Croose, Jones' has established a beguiling production touch to various edits and remixes.
Lynn is an accomplished filmmaker who has collaborated with artist Gabriel Orozco and directed campaigns for designers Alexander McQueen and Corto Moltedo.

Domino was conceived over two years during which Jones and Lynn were traveling separately and frequently across multiple countries and continents.
From a peyote ceremony in Mexico (chants which can be heard echoing on 'You, Me, The Chimp and Acapulco') to hunting for surf along the Icelandic coast (the cold volcanic drums and distortion of 'Jan's Bellski'), Jones and Lynn hoarded field recordings, found instruments and life altering experiences to later process and navigate in a collaborative capacity.

The first Dukes recording session came together in Sausalito, CA, where Jones and Lynn began blending their globally foraged ingredients into what would become the EP's closing track 'Caledonia'. In the midst of trading demos stemmed from this session, they were introduced to Berlin-based vocalist and performance artist Elle P. Conjuring up a wild combo of Grace Jones, Meredith Monk and Trish Keenan, Elle channels these articulate spirits through her own multi-tracking vocal technique.

Although only virtually acquainted, the creative connection among Jones, Lynn and P was unmistakable. Elle soon contributed her triptych mantras and melodies to each of the dark, psycho-tropical jams Jones and Lynn laid out one after the next.

Domino deviates slightly from the dancefloor conventions of the Beats In Space releases before it, but also transports the listener to the most serene and psychedelic catalog setting so far.
With the five songs of the Domino solidified, The Dukes brought them to raw chef and sound engineer Benjamin Tierney for the final dub and mix at his Venice Beach studio.


Each 12 from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form.
Domino features artwork by Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin, the London via South Africa duo known for politically challenging and subverting the topical photo medium.

**The Modern Classics Records imprint, in association with Medical Records, is marking the 20th anniversary of a unique record - Seefeel's Quique. The London quartet's debut album (pronounced 'keek') is a dreamy confluence of dub, abstract electronic music and minimalist composition techniques, and remains a touchstone record in the ambient and shoegaze movements.

*Quique first oscillated into the world in July 1993 via UK label Too Pure, joining the dots between Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine and Aphex Twin. Its most striking quality was its sheer sense of invention - and the fact it was instrumental except for wordless vocals from singer/guitarist Sarah Peacock, lying low in the mix and treated as another instrument.

*The band emerged in London in 1992, releasing an EP, More Like Space, and finding a kindred spirit in fast-rising electronica star Aphex Twin. Before long, they were carving out an entirely new sound. 'There was a sharp shift to wanting to do something definitive, because this is what I began to respect in others — a sense of striking out, of urgency,' says guitarist Mark Clifford in the extensive liner notes by Dave Segal accompanying this reissue. Being a debut album, it's one that finds invention in economy. Quique's unusual sound was not the result of an extravagant setup or a loaded, state-of-the-art studio, even if the guitars and vocals especially existed in a universe apart from everything else happening at the time. It was instead recorded in an attic studio in Camden, north London.
*Seefeel left Too Pure for the more electronically-oriented Warp Records after Quique, and with the move assumed a more severe electronic approach. For its invention, its unique sound and the brevity with which its creators pursued it, Quiquerepresents a prized moment for fans of electronica. The album is notable not just for the artists and records that trailed in its wake, but for the effect it has on listeners too. Clifford once noted, '_Quique_ was used with autistic children - I have letters from people in Liverpool saying they've used it therapeutically with children... And I've had letters from people who've given birth toQuique.'

'We were not afraid of any possibilities,' says Seefeel bassist Daren Seymour in the liner notes. 'And in fact, we enjoyed challenging the status quo as we saw it.'

Taking influences from Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, and ENO/Bowie, Die Gesunden was one of the first Neue Deutsche Welle outfits. The self-titled LP was released in 1982 on Innovative Communication which was the independent record label formed by Klaus Schulze in 1978 after Klaus became very interested in the earliest Berlin Neue Deutsche Welle bands (such as Ideal, etc). The LP is a diverse collection of songs that display a jagged electronic quality showcased throughout with hints of power electronics mixed with synth pop. The opener "Die Gesunden Kommen" is an upbeat track with bouncing synth leads atop treated percussion with whispered lyrics. The second track "Leutnant Miller" displays some of the aforementioned power electronics harshness with pleasant electronic melodies and commanding vocals. "Sometimes/Manchmal" is a slow and minimal track with emotional vocals and mutated synth parts with monotonous tones that are quite entrancing. Overall, the record is a very diverse listen and will surely appeal to fans of early Neue Deutsche Welle (early Der Plan) as well as proto-industrial and experimental new wave. Contains bonus track of cover of "Waiting For My Man". This reissue is presented on high-quality 180gram opaque "baby pink" vinyl. Features slight alteration and reinterpretation of the original front cover and redesigned back cover. Limited edition.

Jens-Uwe Beyer lives in Cologne, he founded the band 'Cologne
Tape' the label 'Magazine' and you know him under his moniker
'Popnoname'. Most recently he remixed the Eurythmics and Brian Eno & Cluster for the Conny Plank Tribute Compilation on Grönland. He is a frequent guest of Kompakt's Pop Ambient series and just released probably the longest maxi in the world - the almost eighty minute (!) ambient piece "Red Book" on Magazine.

'Free Your Mind' creates a fantasy of the next youth revolution. While the two summers of love were birthed from burdening times - Vietnam and 10 years of Thatcher's reign - they were one hell of a party. 'Free Your Mind' binds the two epochs without the negative correlation.
The album was created in a whole new way, with Dan Whitford sketching a song a day over a four month period before completing the tracks with the rest of the band and finally, turning to mixer Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Mercury Rev) to hone their new creations.
Having discovered a portal to the UK acid house movement through Melbourne's booming subterranean dance community, the quartet interacted on the dancefloor without uttering a word, jointly reaching a higher state, feeling involved in a secret society and ultimately becoming one with the music. A sanctuary that was seemingly only a few degrees away from a bygone era when warehouse locations were revealed by hotlines, pirate FM radio and baggy uniform.

Moby is one of the most innovative and individual forces in electronic and popular music today. He has sold over 20 million albums, headlined Glastonbury, and is back with arguably one of the best albums of his career, Innocents.

Moby chose to make this record with a stellar cast. For the first time in his career he worked with an outside producer, friend Mark 'Spike' Stent, whose résumé includes Madonna, U2, Muse, Björk, and Massive Attack. The list of eminent collaborators on Innocents includes Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), alt-rock legend Mark Lanegan, Cold Specks, Skylar Grey - best known for co-writing and performing on Eminem and Rihanna's Love The Way You Lie; indie-folk singer Damien Jurado, and Inyang Bassey who was the vocalist on The Right Thing from Destroyed. He has named them the Innocents.

"I spend most of my time alone in my studio, so for Innocents it seemed like a really nice idea to involve other people in the making of the record. Working with all of these collaborators has helped me to make a record that I'm very proud of, and working this way also gave me some semblance of a social life.." (Moby)

The Innocents became the inspirational motif for the album, embracing human vulnerability and the desire for human connection, while celebrating imperfection in a world that too often esteems unrealistic and artificial perfection.

The thematic vulnerability is also reflected in the production, "Spike" Stent is known for big productions, but given the nature of the songs on Innocents he and Moby committed to a much more analog and lo-fi production approach. To this end they almost exclusively used old (and usually broken..) equipment in the making of the record.

Wake Up Awesome, by C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core), Okkyung Lee, and Lasse Marhaug (Jazzkamer), is the second chapter of Software Studio Series - a new venture in the Software Recording Co.'s expanding catalog that invites artists in the field of electronic music to create collaborative works of quality and vision. Inspired by the historical intersections of live performance and studio post-production, Wake Up Awesome is a modern kind of fusion in technique as well as genre. At its core are three artists highly experienced with both instant and labored composition. Together, they found the studio generated improvisations were iteratively developed by each on their own.

Passages of real-time improvisation duck and swerve into electro-concrete tangles of samples, edits and juxtaposition - all you'd want out of a world of mechanical possibility. If it sounds intentional on the record, it was. If Yeh and Marhaug's more electronic affinities in their respective practices place them as the "producers," then Lee's cello often leads the drive as a sort of soloist.

The resulting conversation is genuinely both serious and iconoclastic. All three artists have a history of dialogue, but this is the first time they've hung out for the record -- we're very happy that they did. Wake Up Awesome is available via the Software in limited vinyl edition as well as CD and digital formats.

SSTUDIOS artists in turn have expanded the definition and responsibilities of the modern "electronic" musician to naturally embrace mixed practices including composition, improvisation, aleatory / extended technique, curation, self-publishing, and a fundamental approach to music beyond euphonic sound. Recognizing these heterogeneous strategies, SSTUDIOS facilitates an adaptive milieu for realization of a singular statement. The process originates in the studio at Mexican Summer in Brooklyn, New York. These initial sessions are the nucleus of the series, the artists recording in an intimate, scalable environment while engaged in dialogue with the series' curators and collaborators. Since the 'live signal' has only been part of the story with electronic music, SSTUDIOS places balanced emphasis on post-production, encouraging artists to see the studio recordings as just that - raw material from which they can proceed any way they see fit. This workflow creates a sense of diversity in the results, while also retaining the mark of their origin - the SSTUDIOS.

Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller will release the soundtrack to his new film work 'English Magic' currently exhibited at the Venice Biennale's British Pavilion as a limited edition EP with The Vinyl Factory.

Charged with representing Great Britain at the 55th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia which launches this week, Jeremy Deller has turned to the country's rich and varied musical heritage for inspiration.

The eclectic picture of England Deller presents in 'English Magic' through a series of stunning slow motion bird shots, a wintry scrapyard, an inflatable stonehenge and a street parade is reflected in the accompanying soundtrack; a 3 track EP that draws on three major junctures in UK music history.

Drenched in cultural significance and recorded at the iconic Abbey Road studios in London, Deller has called upon South London English/Trinidadian steel band the Melodians Steel Orchestra to interpret composer Vaughan Williams' 'Symphony in D minor', seminal UK acid house track 'Voodoo Ray' by A Guy Called Gerald and David Bowie's 1971 pop refrain 'The Man Who Sold The World', for what is a daring and evocative celebration of modern day England.

Obgleich gewisse musikalische Parallelen zu Bands wie The Knife, M83 oder Austra nicht verborgen bleiben, beweist das aus Manchester stammende Trio bestehend aus James, Kelly und Frontfrau Victoria mit seinem Albumdebüt eine ganz eigenständige und erfrischende Mischung aus energetisch treibendem Elektro-Pop, Post-Rave und schlichtweg großen Melodien. Das insgesamt neun Songs umfassende Album featured neben Joey Santiago von den Pixies auch den irischen Singer/Songwriter James Vincent McMorrow. These last few years Rome based producer Egisto Sopor has been turning heads with a steady stream of most excellent releases. A cdr on Legowelt's Strange Life Records, a tape on 100 % Silk, a double LP on Planet Mu and an evergrowing series of jams that are put on soundcloud or on his youtube channel. All of which offer atmospheric acid tinged techno laced with idiosyncratic touches. He has thus developed quite a cult following among lovers of lo fi electronic music who eagerly await his next grainy video, that feel like lost transmissions from an early nineties MTV broadcast. Polysick doesn't get out much and keeps a low profile which adds to his rather enigmatic standing.
With his new LP 'Daydream', Egisto has created the perfect soundtrack to a midnight trip through darkened cityscapes. Starting out like a confused jam session it slowly takes off and twists into uncanny shapes conjuring up images of a futuristic nightlife that plays out under neon lights, with a feeling of dread constantly lurking in the shadows. This is techno that tells a tale; a storyboard that comes pushing through in muffled flashes. A chase scene through deserted back alleys, executed while hunter and prey are both in a half-awake state, stuck in an infinite loop. And when the ambient synth twirls unravel and a 4/4 pulse kicks in and tears through the dreamy state of conciousness, it never signals a reassuring release of tension. You might dance to it, but not without anxiously looking over your shoulder.

We never really had Patterns down as masters of Acoustics and Oneirology. Bedroom dreamers maybe, a Mancunian guitar band of course, but with Waking Lines - the eagerly anticipated debut album - this is a band marking themselves out as true scientists of songcraft. Differing from 'Into The Great Wide Yonder', which was a rather bold cinematic landscape, 'Lost' is definitely a far more streamlined affair and way more 'song structured'. It's the kind of record one can only produce after endless months of studio isolation. Just where his creativity flourishes best.

Body 11 is/was the one-man project of Tim Stickelbrucks. Inspired by the late 70s/early 80s icons such as OMD, Human League, and Cabaret Voltaire, Tim wrote and recorded 4 songs in 1987 in his apartment and self-released the "Mind" 7 inch EP in 1988. Rather obscure at the time, the 7" gained cult status later in the 90s when collectors and word of mouth fans began seeking out copies of the record.Medical Records is proud to reissue the "Mind" EP 4 songs along with unreleased recordings created at the same time. The unreleased tracks were songs that were distributed only on cassette (to friends, etc) at the time. The tracks have been transferred from cassette. The LP embodies the essence of the EBM (electronic body music) subgenre that was prevalent in the late 80s. Though retaining a DIY/demo feel, the tracks have a warm synth/beat laced mood that will surprise and delight fans of this era who are not knowledgeable of Body 11. The opener "Wasteland" definitely evokes a rougher/distorted vocal style over a sequenced Front 242 style rhythm with treated guitar highlights. The unreleased tracks seems to interface with the "Mind" EP songs seamlessly. Fans of early Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, late 80s industrial (Wax Trax, Nettwerk) and even early Skinny Puppy will find this collection essential.

Goldfrapp release their stunningly beautiful new album 'Tales Of Us' through Mute on 9 September 2013. Their sixth album, 'Tales Of Us' is written and produced by band members Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory and was recorded at their studio in the English countryside.

A sumptuous body of work, 'Tales Of Us' has been two years in the crafting and is their most narrative, cinematic and intimate recording so far. Nothing in their accomplished back catalogue has hinted at the new lyrical breadth that the band have introduced to 'Tales Of Us'. All the songs bar one are named in the first person with a cast list of evocative character sketches, the contrary love affairs, the suspense, hallucinations, fairy tales and modern folklores documented and the traces of redemption they find in song take the poetry of Goldfrapp's delicately considered music somewhere brand new.

John Foxx and Jori Hulkkonen have collaborated on a new EP, featuring 4 brand new songs, 2 remixes by film-director David Lynch and a radio edit of the exquisite lead track 'Evangeline'. The other songs - 'Strictly', 'Something Is Coming Down The Avenues' and 'Can't See You Anymore' - are as dream-like and strange as anything in either artist's catalogue. For Foxx, the closest reference would be his 1981 album, The Garden but the surrealist feel of the new material is more displaced and dislocated. There's a strong sense of melancholy, loss, destruction and also romance. Perfect material for David Lynch to reinterpret and re-imagine, quietly stretching out 'Evangeline' with the sound of surf, a drum machine heartbeat and the twang of a 50s guitar. It's a beautiful, evocative remix and a shimmering instrumental version.
According to Hulkkonen the idea was first discussed back in 2010 'when John Foxx And The Maths played a live show at the Roundhouse in London with me supporting as a DJ - and I also ended up on stage to play on John's song, 'Underpass'.'
 Foxx and Hulkkonen had worked together before on two singles, 'Dislocated' in 2005 and 'Never Been Here Before' two years later, but the pair were keen to try something new. 'What I wanted to do was try a somewhat deeper way of collaborating,' says Hulkkonen. 'Creating an EP where the tracks are linked thematically, emotionally and sonically. Thankfully John agreed. Now, some three years later I'm happy the record is finally done and it indeed carries the elements of mystery and surprise it was intended to have. And the fact that David Lynch is on remix duties further adds to the conundrum that is European Splendour.'
