Normally Phillip Lauer - either solo as Lauer or together with Gerd Janson as Tuff City Kids - is the well oiled remix machine that delivers the goods for others. This time, we flipped the coin. Four tracks from his second album "Borndom", which was released in May 2015 and made it into the hearts and charts of Djs and dancers alike, gets the remix treatment. Fort Romeau, The Working Elite, Prins Thomas and Lexx, all good friends and respected colleagues, have set out to expand the Lauer universe. Fort Romeau saves the floating "ByBy" a well deserved place under the mirror ball with a extended House rework. The Working Elite, consisting of Ex-The Whitest Boy Alive member Daniel Nentwig and Thomas Sabrowsky from Brontosaurus fame and label head of Terre Des Pommes sparkle the magic over "Alright" and turn it into a Boogie House bomb of the highest order. Prins Thomas rings the anthem alarm and gives the new wave inspired "ESC" the Norwegian Disco Funk treatment that will let no stone left standing and no eye dry. Swiss finest, Lexx, smoothes things out for "Hump Acid' and proves once again that Lake Zurich is part of the Balearic Sea.

When our good friend Lexx approached us with these tracks from Look Like, we didn't knew a lot about this young gifted man from Zurich. After listening to his music we had no choice than releasing it. His music is influenced by the classic sound of Chicago and Detroit but includes also the forward-thinking bass-scene from the UK as well as the open-mindedness of someone who's permanently digging and searching for progressions. 4 rocking gems for your dancing and listening pleasure.

A welcome follow up to 2014's 'House LP of the year' (Test Pressing) sees the now unmasked Dean Meredith & Ben Shenton project navigating new waters, possibly off world. You decide...

Even though he didn't invent the concept, Bucharest born and Amsterdam residing, Andrei Idu, or more familiarly, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra has done a good deal of remixes in the previous couple of years. This record showcases his best remixes and dubs. Apart from "Lesson 1 Remix", all tracks are exclusive to this vinyl release.

Starting off the record is the infectious dance-floor filler remix of Odyssey's "Inside Out". The remix was done for the 2011 DJ History Odyssey remix competition. Having received enormous feedback and support, it was about time it saw an official release! The track builds the feel-good instrumental to a vocal chorus driven hands-in-the-air climax. It has been a sure shot secret weapon of The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's DJ sets until now. The second track on the A-side is The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's most successful remix to date. His version of L'Equipe du Son's "Lesson 1" is a warm synth driven piece of the highest quality 80's inspired disco. The percussion and strings fill the track with sentiment. It's been witnessed to melt girls on the dance-floor and make grown men shed tears.

The B-side of the record is reserved for the deeper dubs. First off is an unreleased version of Emeron & Fox's "Dopecity". The Legendary 1979 Orchestra takes the original as inspiration and goes deep with it. "Dopecity Deep Dub" is a journey into emotions and euphoria that would fit wonderfully in those late morning deep house sets. Finishing off the record is a Bonus Beats version of Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club's "Marwencol". The original and the first TL79O remix of the track were released in early 2011 on the infamous Russian label Shanti. It was actually The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's first official release. The version on the record strips down the remix going even more dub and keeps the ultra-punchy drums in the forefront for some guaranteed head-nodding business.

With each track touching on a different side of underground dance music, this record is a complete guide to the many styles and tastes of The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's compositions. It wouldn't be hard to imagine hearing all four tracks at different times of a perfect club night.

SPDSC's 'Nightdriving' sounds like the soundtrack to an early 80s exploitation movie featuring crazy driving stunts! JKriv, of Deep & Disco fame, flips the track into a mid tempo piano driven stomper adding even more action to the scenes.

On the flip side, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's 'Love Triangle Theme' is the actual soundtrack to the opening scene of the short horror film 'Matasari'. The track is moody and tensed but somehow liberating with its groovyness. Taking care of remix duties is analog veteran Ruf Dug. His take is reverby, atmospheric, sounding straight off a lost proto house tape.

After releases for Discos Capablanca and Moon Glyth, Food Pyramid join Especial for a remix EP of their album-only track Oh Mercy. Updated by the inhouse team Apophenia, before being given the full italo treatment by SF's Inhalt and a true Especial twisted FX double mix by the man, the myth, Jamie Paton.

Minneapolis collective, Food Pyramid are welcomed to the label with the twisted psychedelic electronics of Oh Mercy. Taken from their Mango Sunrise album of 2012, its warped breakbeat jam-fusion has long been a secret favourite of the label, so it seemed right to present it on a unique EP.

Starting with a 2015 rework at the hands of the label's in-house production team of Apophenia, the original is extended with respect, keeping much and taking out little (the horns) so that the originals groove can ride and ride.

This is followed by a superb remix from Inhalt. After themselves appearing in the form a remix EP (EES009) it seemed now was the right time to get on board with their own take and in the process creating a pumping Italoesque classic. In the same way Timmy Regisford turned NOIA's Rules To Survive in to a mid-80s Chicago all time top 10, this remix harks to all that was good of that time, notably replaying much of the
instrumentation, while keeping it aimed squarely at today's floor. Who said Razormaid

On the flip are killer remixes from the label's main man Jamie Paton. Locked in an increasingly modular headspace, he digs deep and expansive. Premiered on the recent Beats In Space showcase, the Remix kicks far and wide, pushing club systems to the max, this yearns to be played at 7am Panorama. Sliding straight (and you'll miss it) in to the Dub, stripping it wayyy back, let the drums do the talking. Oh baby, have mercy on me.

The radio is a memory machine. It is an airborne exchange of information between celestial host and terrestrial audience. Radio is a medium which configures collective cognition through mass media, harmonizing voice and anonymous ear. The magic radio exists in its connectivity.

For many in their formative years. This connection occurs within the emancipated preserve of the college radio. Beats in Space began and perseveres in the preserve, though its reach now extends beyond campus to wider culture. As a student, Tim Sweeney began broadcasting on WNYU in 1999. Twelve years later, Sweeney created a label under the same name, preserving waveform memories permanently to wax.

BIS001-020 is a compilation surveying the first twenty Beats in Space Records releases. In keeping with the sensibility coveted by Sweeney during his time on air, it's clear what makes these releases harmonious. Theses an attitude: a little bit rude, but softened with sensitivity. There is a sense of motion narrative and duration: a dedication to crescendo, a theatricality that never yawns. An appreciation for melody, but no at the expense of propulsive percussive textures.
