Eric Ericksson is back with his fourth release on Swedish Brandy Productions. A stunning hot deep four tracker. Excellent quality productions in every aspect that differs a bit in style. The a- side starts of with the track Old Made New'. A spirited house gem packed with bouncing bass, shuffled grooves, filtered pads and smart synth hooks punching in and out.

Next up is the techy afro house inspired cut November' with it's sturdy and hypnotic groove. Vigorous dubby chords, stabs and percussion combined with energetic and dramatic strings.

The flip side starts of with the chilled and elegant Catch You'. Deep and crisp sounding with great swing and punch, flavoured with visionary and dreamlike soundscapes mixed with a slightly techy vibe that gives this track it's grand feel and golden touch.

He progressed quickly from sampling to solely creating his own futuristic sounds in his homestudio. It's fair to say that Heion is fast becoming a One To Watch in the slow down house scene.

After closing the year with four tracks of wintery house from San Laurentino, Aficionado set their sights on the spring with their latest release, which comes courtesy of Glaswegian trio Imperfect Product.Opening with a drifting dreamscape, reminiscent but intangible (entirely fitting for a track reborn out of decade's old rehearsal tapes) 'Solina' blooms into colour and focus at the rattle and crash of a jazzy drum break. An irresistible rolling bassline carries the groove onwards and upwards, loosening your shoulders nicely before spiralling synthesisers, swaggering wah guitar and rippling piano take your breath away completely.
As the fuzzy organ stabs and shimmering drones flood the soundscape, you're overcome with memories of youthful mixtapes where Innerzone Orchestra and Eddie Henderson rubbed shoulders with 'Summer Madness'. Understated but overwhelming, 'Solina's' sweltering perfection works just as well as an end of night life changer as the soundtrack to a spliff and sangria in the back garden.

On the B-side, London's Les Crocodiles deconstruct the track inna dubwise style, turning up the heat for some far out Balearic beat. The head nodding rhythm holds things together perfectly while the acid-tinged rubber bassline, echo drenched middle eastern strings and psychedelic synth lines do their very best to totally blow your mind.
As you head deeper into the groove, the dreamy piano of the original leads us into a euphoric breakdown before pulling us back in for more ecstatic dancing.
A score of releases in and with no two records sounding the same, Aficionado continue to fly the flag for open minded music.

It's not often you get to work with vocalists of Sarah Jay's calibre (Massive Attack/Presence) so here at PFT we decided to enlist some heavyweight talent to make the most of this opportunity.
Kicking off the second EP we have the one and only Rob Mello (Classic/Defected/Crosstown Rebels) on remix duties. To say we are excited about this is an understatement (we are very excited). The No Ears Vocal mix is a proper anthem with elements of deep house, 80s boogie and nu-disco to these ears.
Matt RiVEM aka Goshawk is up next with a 110bpm disco mix complete with chunky drums, Chic style live guitar (thanks Martyn Bentley!) and signature chord progressions. Real nice warm up/calm down tackle with enough oomph to be played LOUD.
Ant Plate turns in a phenomenal YSE Saint Laur'ant reversion that channels house (obviously), punk funk and dub disco into a floor filling underground monster. Some particularly interesting drum fills and percussion take the track to another level.
Finally, Situation come complete with a delicious live broken beat number in radio edit format. Think Schmoov/Atjazz era DIY and you are there or thereabouts.

Residing in Los Angeles, California, Seven Davis Jr was raised on the classics - from Michael Jackson and Prince to Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. His early self-released output, however, was more closely aligned to the city's vibrant left-leaning electronic underground. The past 18 months have seen Seven skip from a retrospective EP via Kutmah's IZWID imprint to 12"s with Must Have Records, Classic, Ten Thousand Yen (alongside Doc Daneeka) and Funkineven's Apron Records on a Peven Everett vs. Sa-Ra vs. Derrick Carter flex.
The perfect Valentine's gift for those who like their smoothness a little rough around the edges, "Wild Hearts" and "Let Somebody Love You" distil the soup of influences above into two delightfully dishevelled, groove-ridden, catchy-as-hell nuggets... nocturnal fonque of the highest order. The Silver Rider is a transdimensional traveller and purveyor of fine disco, funk and soul. Yoruba Records is proud to present this four-track EP from label newcomer Myles Bigelow. Having honed his craft as a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Myles is known for releases on his own imprint Deep Culture Music and we're excited to have him bring his blend of Latin, jazz, and tropical rhythms to the Yoruba family. The opening track, Afro Banger, as the title suggests is a dance floor ready Afro-inspired ballad. The captivating combination of percussion, rolling bass and clever synth stabs in this track demand peak hour airtime. House Rocka is yet another floor-ready tune. With its fat, punching bass and smooth conga -laden beat this track will keep a floor moving at any hour. The B-side of this release opens with Spiritual Awakening. Seemingly led by steel drums and gentle guitar arpeggios, the introduction of a warm bass line takes this groove in a hypnotic direction. Finally the title track of this release, Turning Pages opens up with a smooth string bass line perfect for setting the mood a little deeper. It's quality all the way with this superb new 12' featuring four incredible tracks from Balearic legends Elkin & Nelson. These talented Columbian brothers moved to Spain in the 70s where they fused funk, soul and Afro influences with their native Latin rhythms to create dancefloor gold. Refreshingly avoiding their well known and recently reissued anthem 'Jibaro', this EP instead unearths more obscure but equally brilliant gems previously unavailable on 12'. Side A features the floor-filling Latin brilliance that is 'Abran Paso - Ahoa' followed by the awesome 'A Caballo'. Then on the flip we get the sublimely beautiful yet enticingly groovy full 9 minute verson of 'Vamonos', an Ibiza classic favoured in 80s by the Island's original Balearic DJs like Alfredo and Pippi. By 1977 Herbie Hancock was firmly established as America's leading purveyor of jazz-funk. This superb performance finds him playing with Weather Report's legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, as well as Bennie Maupin (tenor sax / bass clarinet) and James Levi (drums). Broadcast on the local WXRT-FM, it offers a setlist anchored in his Head Hunters era, but also offers a track from Maupin's superb Slow Traffic To The Right album. It's presented here with background notes and images.

The Maghreban has been making dusty house music for a couple of years now and has put a few records out on his own imprint Zoot and also on Versatile records. Some people have liked this.

The Maghreban found a bunch of old cassette tapes at his dads house. One said 'Alex July 84' on it. This tape was from Alexandria, Egypt in the summer of 1984. It had some interesting music recorded on it. The Maghreban sampled a few of the tracks to make this one.

Michael Silver is CFCF, a man with a gift for a melody. He continually delivers timeless music as aptly illustrated in his debut release for International Feel, 'On Vacation'.

CFCF is a Montreal native who has been making music since he was 12 years old. Pitchfork have previously described his work as "a strong case for how much unexpected magic can be found in the ordinary and another excellent chapter in CFCF's story."

The second in International Feel's minialbum series, 'On Vacation', is an album inspired by places and spaces some imaginary, some real. The keen sense of melody allows CFCF to switch genres thoughout this release and shows him in clear analogue organic territory. "It's really gentle and lowkey and I hope that people will not take it too seriously,' explains Silver, 'It's a kind of jazzy affair."

'Sate Padang' is the album opener. A mystic little track, the likes you'd be happy to find in a dusty Japanese record store. It timelessly sets the scene. A mixture of digital and organic sounds perfectly held together by tight melodies and lush sounds. 'Arto' swiftly follows and pays homage to one of the great Japanese composers Seigen Ono. Acoustic guitar and piano play harmoniously alongside a conga beat and sumptuous accordion, it transports you to an imaginary place within. An ambient piece, 'In The Courtyard' follows, with 'Pleasure Centre' closing the A side and showing Silver's love of that under appreciated side of the 80s synth sound.

The B side opens with the stunning 'Chasing ' where acoustic instrumentation swoops in for a beautiful run through a flowing melody. A track that makes us want to hit rewind and play again instantly. 'Fleur Laisses Dans Un Taxi ' gives a nod to Paris in the Spring, 'Lighthouse On Chatham Sound' to a late afternoon setting by the sea and the album closes with 'Vermont', a contemplative piece that considers a future journey.

This album shows Silver in full stride and hitting somewhere pretty special. An artist open to music and melody and not hindered by genre or time and space. A cliche Yes maybe... But listen and you'll see exactly what we mean.

Hell Yeah, this time in collaboration with DJ Ralf's Laterra Recordings, is a label you can always rely on to come up with some interesting musical projects, and that is exactly the case here: the Italian outlet's next releases are two Balearic tinged remixes of a popular Italian chant, Bella Ciao, by Brooklyn troupe Underground System released on a 12" and a 10" vinyl, remixes come from Leo Mas & Fabrice, and stunning artwork by Andrea Amducci inspired by Guttuso's Funerale di Togliatti.
This new project came about after Leo Mas played the afro-beat original cover on his Boiler Room set in Ibiza and made it a bonafide Balearic nu-classic, legend Alfredo loved it so much he requested a copy, which lead the label to get official rights for its release.
Originally, Bella Ciao is actually a partisan Italian song created during the civil war that is a hymn of freedom and resistance.
Here it is flipped into two tantalisingly feel good disco anthems by Leo Mas & Fabrice, one with vocals and one all dubbed out.
Leo Mas is a true legend, who was there at the start of the Ibiza revolution in the 80s.
He played at Amnesia with Alfredo and since has pioneered a house and Balearic sound on many different labels.
Fabrice is another Italian with long standing disco roots who, along with Leo and Andrea Gemolotto, was part of La Magica Triade and now releases/remixes on labels like Is It Balearic, Golf Channel, Music For Dreams
The vocal version is full of gentle tumbling toms, cute guitar riffs and rolling bass. The exquisite vocal chants up top add plenty of joyous vibes to the already summery beats and then it just rolls and rolls, making you shake your behind and swing your hips as it goes. The dub version is deeper and more low slung, with more emphasis on the drums and the elastic, lazy grooves.

Japanese DJ / producer legend returns with some MPC-driven sleazy disco business, sampling vintage sounds, built hip hop style.

To accompany the release of Especial's compilation mix CD, "Eleccio" - offering of a snapshot of the first 9 EPs on the label - a limited edition sampler EP is being released featuring 4 unreleased remixes from the label's roster to date. Ever since the first white labels appeared at the end of Summer 2013, (Emotional) Especial has had a busy release schedule, putting out music that are a slightly warped take on club music. Mixing the influences of dub, electro, disco, proto-house, house and techno, a feeling, a sound, a vibe has appeared without any preordained plan. With the release of EES10CD - a DJ meets studio compilation mix created by label mainstay and handyman, Jamie Paton - to mark the end of first series of the label, it was decided to included a couple of specal unreleased remixes to add a bit of new with the old in the mix. To that end this limited edition vinyl sampler was created to include the two remixes, plus
the inclusion of another two gems that simply needed to see the light of day. First is the alternative "Member" remix of Inhalt by Black Merlin - a strings meets leather bar club-dub-out that takes things deeper and darker than before. This is followed by Jamie
delivering his own take of Khidja's massive Mustafa, with a warped, swamped out dub. Next is another mix from Cage & Aviary of their pals, Blancemange. Brooding low-slung rerub dub

It is the essence of a music lover that swims in an ocean of sound since decades. Already in 1969 the Italian started spinning vinyl at the dawning of Djing - a time where he had no model to refer to and no mixing gear or listening device that helped him to find his very own way of spinning hot black wax.

While listening to the American djs Bob Day and Tom Sison at the legendary club Baia Degli Angeli in the early 1970ees. he understood what mixing means. Later he took over a residency at the so-called Italian "Studio 54" at the Adriatic cost and set its dancefloor on fire in order to sharpen his dj skills for a bigger mission to come.

When he changed the location 1979 and started a residency at the even

more legendary club Cosmic at Lake Laga, a place where avant-garde design and music should melt together to one big aesthetic blow, Baldelli started to free wheel and integrated a lot of Afro in his sets.

During his long spanning residency at Cosmic all music styles came together - from funky disco to electronic, reggae, fusion, rock, funk, Brasil or jazz. Baldelli wasn't afraid in fusing them and his sets start to be famous for their eclectic meltdowns ranging from Ravel's Bolero overlapping with a track by Africa Djola or an experimental piece by Steve Reich mixed together with a Malinke chant from New Guinea.

His experimental mixing style finally brought him stardom even thought he combined an extremely diverse range of genres, from European electronica and synth pop to African folk, Indian melodies, batucada, Kraftwerk, Fela Kuti and the German electronic sounds of SKY records - all often played at improper speed and mixed with effects and drum machines.

His worldly hypnotic sets that brought together the music of artists such as Killing Joke, The Incredible Bongo Band, Zaza, Chris And Cosey, Antena, Azymuth, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Yellowman finally fathered the cosmic sound - a highly influential musical movement that set itself

apart from the Italo disco scene.

Since then Baldelli's record bag stayed eclectic and he still plays scintillating sets all over the world.

His vinyl collection marks over 65.000 records and the essence of it paired with his long lasting dj experience can be felt in all his musical productions right up to his latest 12inch "Cosmic Drag" from last year.

It functioned as a foretaste for an album that now sees the light of the day under the same name.

The longplayer contains of all four 12inch tracks plus eight more stimulating hypnotic tunes that have nothing in common with trends. Instead they create their very own ones. They all spread deepness with diversified melodies, chords and rhythms. You can feel Baldelli's musical root Afro in tracks like "Chop and Roll". You can feel electro vibes as well as techno driven grooves. Sometimes the funk hits you hard while in the next moment you get blown away by futuristic soundscapes.

What all arrangements have in common is a cosmic dust that melts playful with highflying synth lines and outer space tones. A truly weird mesmerising record that stays appealing while experimenting profoundly. It has been produced within six month and it is based on Baldelli's very own musical ideas that he translated with a keyboardist into music.

"Most of my ideas emerge while travelling by train, driving my car to a club where I will perform and foremost when I devote myself to listen to my large vinyl collection" he explains about the inspiration for "Cosmic Drag".

A statement that explains why his brand new tracks often built a bridge between careless funky seventies vibes, offish eighties coolness and the freedom of the nineties rave culture while landing fresh and unafraid in the present. The title of his album is both program and message for music that carries you away like a steam train into spheres where you forget yourself between irresistible rhythms and melodies. If your ears are into dance music that catches its targets with musicality try "Cosmic Drag" and become hooked.

The brainchild of respected Japanese DJ Yoku, A Hundred Birds is an ambitious live collective, performing across Japan since 1996. Already a popular festival orchestra, the group got a taste of international success in the year 2000 when overseas debut "Batonga" was released on Francois Kevorkian's Wave Music. Fronted by Yoku, who acts as conductor at live shows and keeps the set running continuously like a DJ mix, the band perform an engaging mixture of covers and original material.
DISCOvery is a joyful collection of extended cover versions based on the definitive 'club mixes' of the 70's and 80's, characterized by sublime horn and string arrangements, virtuoso musicianship and a tangible sense of fun. Best described as a devoted tribute to the golden age of disco music, DISCOvery sees A Hundred Bird's talented players and singers effortlessly tackling a selection of truly iconic records. About two years ago Sonar Kollektiv released Marlow's first 12inch. The funky sparkler inviting everybody to bop along, Backroom' (SK265) soon became a stable club hit and got airplay on all respectable radio stations all around the globe (f.e. Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show on BBC Radio 6 Music). The song with the distinctive voice of Pete Josef still works perfectly as proven by this year's Sonar Kollektiv's (limited) Record Store Day release. Two brand new remixes give wings to Backroom' and transport the track a second time to all the dance floors where hips are swayed lasciviously. No less a figure than the Hamburger allround entertainment machine Erobique takes the track to task and puts you with his Maxi Mix in a cheerful mood in an infectious way. A tiny bit more restrained is the Super Disco Dub remix by Alex Barck and Marlow. Supremely sensitive the bassline played by Christoph Kaiser works its way sluggishly into the groove until the keys by Erobique - in this version as well - take lead. Everything leads to Marlow's debut album, coming this June!

Here at Bearfunk we have been pretty busy as of late... it was a casual visit to Geneva just like any other. We had just finished a buzzing set and soon after we found ourselves talking to a five bearded academic types. It turns out they were a bunch of theoretical physicists out on a cosmologists night out. They work them hard at CERN and that day the Large Hadron Collector had been a real beast... rebooting five times before lunch. They were pissed off and needed a new challenge. We offered them a job on the spot and they promptly moved to our London HQ working on a wage of tea, vinyl and Nandos. We set them a challenge... Build us a time machine! They started soaking up all those Bearfunk-groove-boson particles and..., you know what They did it!! A Time machine of our own.

Our first task, jump back in time to 1985 and retrieve us something really cool. Set controls to the Manhattan office to Celluloid Records. Fresh from their hit with Herbie Hancocks "Rockit", spearheading rap with Fab Five Freddys "Change The Beat" and Afrika Bambata stompers the legendary label is preparing to release the debut album from NYC-Paris emigre Lord Funk.

The album is prepped and ready to go with a release date. It's a cornucopia of mid 80s sounds. Disco, Hip Hop, Rare Groove, Deep Boogie and foot-tapping funk. We manage to hijack a shipment of the records on the way from the plant to the record distributors and bring them back to 2016. We are ecstatic but Celluloid Records are furious. Celluloid never gets to release the record and its existence slips into music legend. We however find ourselves in the 2016 future sitting on a stack of LPs which represent one cool sound from 1985. Surely just what time machines were invented for.

Alas this story doesn't have a happy ending. As we were beaming the last batch of master tapes... the ones containing the Larry Levan remix of Bad Day and the Jean-Michel Basquiat artwork for the album sleeve... things went terribly wrong. A stray chicken bone fell into the spacetime-continuum-field-generator and our beloved time machine imploded, never to be seen again. The remaining mixes and artwork were lost too. However it's not all bad as we at least had the batch of vinyl of the Global Warming LPs. Which we proudly present you, new sleeve and all, for sale in 2016.

'This Is How It Started' focuses heavily on the early days of the Chicago sound, especially in the formative years at Ron Hardy's Music Box.
Following Chicago's Disco Demolition Night in 1979 the genre's popularity fell dramatically, hence fewer disco records being released in this era Chicago's DJs such as Hot Mix 5, Hardy, Knuckles & Jesse Saunders played a variety of styles mixing in Italo, electronic pop music, electro-funk and older disco joints often playing their own edits which focusing on the portions of the songs which always rocked the dancefloor. At the end of 1982, when
DJ Frankie Knuckles left the Warehouse to open the Power Plant, Ron Hardy started to DJ at the Warehouse's new location until owner Robert Williams renamed it The Music Box. In 1984, a local label released a 12-inch single called "On and On" by locals Jesse Saunders & Vince Lawrence who had simple made the song in order to replace a record which had been stolen from Saunders' collection, the "On & On" bootleg disco mega mix by Mach. Hence Chicago House Music was born and a modern day phenomenon followed.
The direction of this new compilation was to delve deeper into the early sound that fired Ron's eclectic vision and to harness this within todays scene, bringing in not only artists from the original Chicago era but also the DJ & producers who have been influenced by those halcyon days.

Super secret Bergen/Stavanger/Oslo/Haugesund/Berlin based collab label GLUEUNTZ is back with another release, after the very successful Q&A 12" two years ago.

On the A-side, it's The Glue of course. The Bear and the Bunny have stayed out of the studio and focused more on coming in the fjords and glaciers of western Norway the last few years, but recently they overcame all obstacles and got together in the studio to give birth to "Stomperud". The track, just like life itself, is a very long and mysterious journey. It starts out as your everyday guitar loop based disco house track, but then things get all weird and incomprehensible - akkurat som selve livet.

On the B-side, you will find "Kommafeil", an edit by our dear friend Rulefinn. Rulefinn is arguably the biggest italo disco enthusiast in Norway, and his vast collection of rare italo records has made everyone who goes clubbing regularly in Oslo come on the dancefloor at least a couple of times during the last decade. Now he has finally started sharing a few of these gems with the general public through his spectacular edits, and this tight mid tempo italo slap bass banger is going to make you come for sure.
