SIMON MILLS - HARMONIC JIGSAWS VOL. 1

(2LP gatefold) Simon Mills rose to musical prominence as one half of electronic duo Bent, alongside production partner Neil "Nail" Tolliday. Harmonic Jigsaws Vol. 1 is the first studio album released under his own name, having released solely as Napoleon for the best part of a decade. The album follows on from several disco-tinged EPs and a blissful remix of CamelPhat and Elderbrook's hit 'Cola', one of the biggest club tracks of 2017.

Aperture
02.05.2018

After a period of hibernation, aperture records awakens with a bang and a compelling program in the pipeline.
Following their first album released on aperture at the tail end of 2015 'no.3.obliate', the Italian duo T.e.s.o. bring us their second full-length album 'costruzione 04'.
As the title suggests, the album centres around an underlying theme of construction, inspired by radical architecture, brutalism and collages from Superstudio. The concept and title evolved from the nature of the album and the process of building up tracks from a number of separate samples, much like the singular elemental materials used to assemble a structure.
Alongside their music production, the duo have previously created a multimedia installation that investigated the geometric studies of Le Corbusier in parallel to the musical production of Erik Saite and Matteo Castiglioni continues to create impressive audiovisual installations such as the recent 'Freddo Flusso' and 'neon(i)', as well as a collaboration with Danilo Randazzo. T.e.s.o also continue to perform absorbing live sets of their own inimitable range of musical perspective and vision.
Intense, visual and structured, 'costruzione 04' again showcases T.e.s.o.'s complex, obscure and dominant beats and their oblique and sometimes challenging style.

Blood Wine or Honey - Fear & Celebration

Surrounded by the throb of heavy machinery, the scent of dried fish, and the humidity of the South China Sea, electronic outfit Blood Wine or Honey have honed their manic hypno-tropicalia in the industrial warehouses and hidden rural hamlets of Hong Kong.

BWoH are multi-instrumentalists / vocalists James Banbury (synths, bass, cello, etc), Shane Aspegren (drums, synths, electronics, etc) and Joseph von Hess (saxophone, wind instruments, percussion, etc). Collectively, their witch's brew of brazen sax themes, lo-fi/hi-tech electronics, motorik drums, group-sung vocals, wonky tactics and party palpitations results in a ritualistically euphoric sound experience, taking notes from post-punk, dance floor experimentation, bass/soundsystem music and tropical polyrhythms.

Their hotly anticipated debut album, 'Fear & Celebration', is the culmination of a painstaking process of writing, recording and production for the trio. After the band's live debut at Sonar Festival Hong Kong, their breakout track 'Anxious Party People' shocked dancefloors all over the world, receiving a shortlist nomination at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards for 'Track Of The Year' and catching the attention of major radio outlets such as BBC 6 Music (UK), Radio Nova (FR), KCRW (US), CR2 903 (HK), Worldwide FM, and NTS, as well as being featured on Bandcamp Weekly.

This is deep dance-floor for every mind's ear.

For quite a while we supported Bas van Vuurde a.k.a. Colophon, the Harlem based producer was a regular in our store and after some proper vinyl digging we told him that he could always send over some demos. Couple of weeks later we got an email and we enjoyed it so much that we had to release it. We asked VC-118A, who also put out music on labels such as Radio Matrix, Lunar Disco and Tabernacle Records, for a remix.

Colophon has it's own label called Lowercase Life, beautiful hand printed sleeves with stunning music and remixes by Florian Kupfer and Orson Wells, produces nighttime tracks for the floor with a deep but spacious melancholic feel. The Heritage EP is a hommage to analog machine soul techno, as he calls it himself. Deeptrax is presenting future sounds in fresh modern cuts with a stunning electro-ish remix by VC-118A.

Beta Evers, Heinrich Mueller & Spatial Relation - Split

Peripheral Minimal is proud to announce the imminent release of, 'Beta Evers / Spatial Relation', a six-track 12" E.P., that also features, Heinrich Mueller of Dopplereffekt. The six tracks contain the coldest of minimal synth and technoid darkness, underpinned by a melancholic sentiment. This is the third release by Spatial Relation on Peripheral Minimal, and the first by Beta Evers.

Brigitte Enzler aka Beta Evers, grew up with the New Wave and experimental electronics scenes in the late 70's and early 80's. In her teenage years she founded a girl-band and started her first record label at the age of 16, to independently release and distribute the music of her project. During the early 90's Brigitte started to arrange gatherings / parties, (electronic music) for local underground clubs in her home city of Augsburg, Germany.

In the year 2000 she founded the electro collective Kommando 6, and in 2001 she decided to run a label again, under the same name, Kommando 6. Finally, in the same year, she started to compose and produce her own tracks independently. Besides her solo-project, Brigitte collaborates in a side-project with Dystronic called, Black Spider Clan, which began life in 2002. Furthermore she is involved in, Flying Bodies and Radikale Analog Fraktion. In 2006 she closed the Kommando 6 label after it had released 20 records. More recently she started 2 new labels called Bodyvolt and Venus Noir.

Married New York based couple, Lissette and Jacob Schoenly founded Spatial Relation several years ago, and have sporadically released classic technoid synthwave / minimal wave, akin to fellow US act, 'Adult' who are also a major influence. Their first full length LP has been critically acclaimed, and the three tracks herein continue their twisted electro sounds.

Lord Of The Isles - Parabolas Of Neon Ep

REPRESSED !!
McDonald's long-standing relationship with Firecracker boss Lindsay Todd - dating back a decade to their joint residency in Edinburgh - has seen Lord Of The Isles records appear on both UNTHANK and Shevchenko, whilst he also contributed to the Scotch and field recording shenanigans of last year's Mac-talla Nan Creag album. Now, McDonald will now graduate to the main Firecracker label for a full Lord Of The Isles debut due in December under the name Parabolas Of Neon. Taking shape as a six-track 12'', the record features glacial techno and downtempo, cinematic melancholia, a fitting tribute to peaks conquered, whisky-drenched travelogues, warehouse parties, long drives and fried afters.

'Cosa Mia' slows things down a few BPM - a chugging beat and balearic vibe, enhanced by a beautiful string section that makes this a no-brainer for a sunrise / sunset session. 'Palomita' delivers a similar feel, but with slightly more drive to it - shifting from a mid tempo groover to a latin hip shaker with perfect aplomb. Cannibal Ink - Samarkanda E.p.

We are very proud and happy to present the new reference from Rotten City Records. After the releases with original works from Tronik Youth, A Jokers Bizarre (Jokers Of The Scene + Club Bizarre) and Dj Rocca, with great remixes from artists such as Red Axes, Timothy J. Fairplay, Justin Robertson or MR TC, now it's the turn of the Spanish trio Cannibal Ink.
They are Antonio Canca, Guillermo Iraola and Andres Navarrete. Fruit of the union of its old moniker Voodoo Corporation, Antonio & Andres joined Guillermo to look for those sounds that had frequented their neurons during the last years. EBM, New Wave, Industrial and Cosmic Disco are the palette of sounds that make up their DNA.
With releases in labels like Ombra International, and remixed by amazing artists such as Emperor Machine or Moscoman, now it's time to give welcome to these guys to Rotten City with an EP composed by two wicked original pieces full of electronics & dark ethnic sounds for the dance floor plus remixes from the mexicans Zombies In Miami and the lisergic italian duo Mushrooms Project. The first track on the A side is Samarkanda, a trip into the middle east. Slow and mechanical funk mixed with arabian sounds giving an ethnic touch to the darkness of the track.
After, we find The Souk, continuing the style of Samarkanda but in this case more narcotic, acid and deep than the previous.
On the B side we find the amazing 'Audio Guide Remix' from Zombies In Miami, and as the name says, it introduces us in the mode of a guided ceremony, in a shamanic ritual that will make us find our own fears so we can let them go on the dance floor letting us flow through much more exciting places than the ones our mind normally is. Close your eyes and prepare to ride. Finally, the remix of Mushrooms Project offers another good trip for the head. Longer, deeper, more narcotic if is possible than the original and retaining that ancient and dark atmosphere. Startling.

Caibu

2x12inchHFLP013
Hot Flush Recordings
16.04.2018

Scuba continues his uncompromising SCB moniker with 'Caibu', a twelve track LP of cerebral techno, darkened disco and broken beats out April 13th on Hotflush.

Paul Rose's career has enjoyed a unique trajectory that affords his reputation as one of the scene's most forward thinking artists, label heads and promoters. Always the risk taker, his Hotflush imprint is credited as a key force behind the evolution of bass music, whilst his ground-breaking booking policy for the sub:stance night at Berghain opened up one of the worlds most revered venues to new sounds and musical possibility. Today he continues to challenge the status quo of electronic music through a packed touring schedule, various artistic projects of his own and a weekly radio show platforming new material.

'Caibu' is his first album as SCB and incorporates material from the 'Below The Line' and 'Old Media New Society' EPs of last year. Preceding the release a third EP - 'Engineered Morality' - will drop 16th March, continuing to explore the fictional narrative in which a hypothetical timeline is corrupted by a climate-related disaster. The title of the album itself refers to an imagined surgical procedure where cognitive ability is augmented through transplant from one brain to another. As such, 'Caibu' and its accompanying EPs invite the listener to forge their own ideas on the development of society in the context of crisis.

Within this dystopic setting, 'Caibu' draws strength from introspection. At times trapped in a pressurized container, at others floating through vast spaces; SCB merges subdued hypnotism, syncopated basslines and visceral ambience to find his centre. Metallic surfaces are moulded into polyrhythmic patterns replete with ricocheting drums, whilst unfamiliar acoustics provide a backdrop for the unfurling narrative.

Artwork for the three EPs and album commissioned by Jonathan Lawrence.

Synthònia' is an electronic ambient album released only with analog synths (Roland System 100, Roland TB 303, Roland Jx 3p, Korg Polysix, Korg ms 10, Korg ms 20, Yamaha cs 15, Kawai 100f, Teisco 100f) which refers to Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Klaus Shulze and The Berlin Shool' and John Carpenter.

Dyno, from Pesaro, Italy, discovers the passion for electronic music and analog synthesizers at the early age of 15. His first single was released in 1995, for over 2 decades Dyno has established himself as one of the most eclectic and respected italian producers of techno music for many important labels (Global Underground, Yoshitoshi, ZYX Music, DJ Mag, Traum, ecc) supported by artists like Joris Voorn, James Zabiela, Sasha, Sharam (Deep Dish) and Umek to name a few.

His passion for analog synthesizers led him to realize this ambitious Ambient work that float just above, in a perfect geosynchronous orbit, casts enough shade to dampen the extraneous while causing a shift in our perceptions, enough to take us out of time and place, to wherever we need to be.

15.01.2015

The Superfiction saga continues with the release of Episode #7, and this time it's an Italian job. Label bosses Italoboyz & Blind Minded have brought together a band of brothers for the latest in their popular series of releases.
First up and making their label debut are our own musical musketeers, F.D.X.. The talented trio kick of the Episode #7 with Borderline. This no-nonsense, heads-down, driving techy number has a Soul Grabber vibe, and is all the better for it. Relentless in its groove and with vocal stabs that sit deep in the mix, this strong heavy club cut is the perfect opener.
Upping the intensity one notch further is Giacomo Trevi who returns to Superfiction with his latest offering, Moving. A thumping kick matched with piercing metallic percussion, deliver a menacing industrial flavour and create an aggressive yet grooving smash.
The label team open the B with the deep, stripped and hypnotic, Simiottada. The perfect antidote to our energetic opening, Simiottada drifts along with an impressive and atmospheric funk. Keeping it deep and washing us away on a stream of warm bass and steel melody is Federico Molinari with the beautiful Mul End. And what a fine end it is too and the perfect track to close the release.

Ruutu Poiss - Ep

After the last years widely appreciated 12 with two extraterrestrial dancefloor cuts on Jon Rust's Levels imprint and a handful of now hard-to-find 7 releases, the estonian musician/producer Ruutu Poiss returns to his minimal funk and leftfield synth-pop roots releasing a debut EP on International Major Label. The six selected homerecordings from 2011-2016 reflect almost a chronological and kaleidoscopic journey through the authors musical explorations, instrumental storytelling and unique sound design, imaginatively non-locking to existing genres. From subtle vocals to vicious toms; celestial soundscapes over restless rubbery bass; shimmering synths over polyrhythmic structures - an environment of romantic futurism and organic transformation appears, surrounded by a warm psychedelic sound palette. Previous releases played and supported by Secretsundaze, Benji B, James Blake, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Call Super, Omar-S and many others.

Steven Rutter - BrainFog

FireScope Records, the scion of B12 Records, releases its first album from none other than its chief commander, Steven Rutter. The second credited solo release from Rutter, it signals another step away from B12 as he steadily builds on a singular vision of work under his own name. With previous releases on labels such as Warp, Soma, Delsin, ART, Buzz and De:Tuned, one of the original founders of UK techno is guided inward for this collection of 12 brand new tracks. Developed over 2 years, these tracks have previously appeared in his numerous solo live shows but are presented here for the first time as one complete narrative. The album, titled 'BrainFog', is the creative and spiritual catharsis of a journey beginning circa 2010, which saw the producer on a hospital bed, hours away from an ascent to the heavens and subsequently depressed and anxious while seeking liberation and escape through music. The daily battle with darkness continues today and this album is his emotions laid bare. Hauntingly beautiful in its fog-filled melancholy; it's our pilot's only solace on the lone flight to recovery. The opening track, 'Sleep Gives Freedom' is a slow, risky start for an album but pays tribute to that safe place which one can escape from everything that surrounds. Put this on to escape and be lulled into a walk through the fog. The following track 'Statuesque' stands tall as a classic techno tune — a stomper with lush strings, tough beats and a bassline that shouts loud and proud. Emotional and heartfelt with a smattering of percussion, 'Memories of You' is written for a best friend, an orbiting soul who is now light years from earth.
Throughout the album, the clouds of despair and decay are never far away, interspersed with bright but fleeting moments of lightness and hope. 'Cracked Reality' slightly disturbs with its sparse and pounding construction, before the decaying beauty of 'Degenerator' and its mirroring track, 'Oracle Unleashed', offer two perspectives to the same theme. 'Squad Free Force' throws back to early hip hop with its old school drums topped with an eerie spin and warmly wrapped in heaven- sent pads. The album's two quirkier compositions come in the form of 'Infinity Engine' and 'Takedown'. With a pure 909 techno sound, 'Infinity Engine''s incredible pads offer a path from sadness to elation and happiness. A different live version may be released later in the year. 'Takedown''s chuggy sideways groove further breaks it down — no matter who or where you are; there is always someone somewhere that wants to bring you down, sometimes it's yourself.
The album's last track, 'Hand in Hand' is probably the most upbeat of the album, and a call to take the hand of the one that is there for you, whether in physical or spirit form. The drums and pads start the track off, before a disjointed sliding bassline sets the scene for a top-line string. Euphoric and uplifting, it is a reminder to respectfully embrace all that which remains good in the world. As a punctuation mark, the final note of the track is a full stop that puts an end to the journey from brain fog to clear heart. Finished in two different coloured vinyl a/b and c/d in a wonderful gatefold featuring the artwork of Sarah Sparkes

Simian Mobile Disco - Murmurations

A thrilling 9-song set, Murmurations is as perfectly pitched for headphones as it is for clubs, named after giant cloud formations of starlings and themed around the stunning emergent behaviors that appear within them. To mirror these movements in the sonic landscape and visuals of Murmurations, SMD's James Ford and Jas Shaw collaborated with the celebrated Hackney-based vocal collective The Deep Throat Choir, as well as creative directors Kazim Rashid of ENDLESSLOVESHOW (Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawk) and Carri Munden.

Finding time in between Ford's work as a producer and Jas' club gigging last year, the duo arranged a session in Shaw's countryside studio. Via an introduction from a friend of Ford's wife, The Deep Throat Choir's director Luisa Gerstein and SMD began swapping some production and melodic ideas. They decided to bring the whole East London-based choir into the studio to experiment, and the results were intense. Jas says, 'Listening to them moving their voices around a tone, altering the timbre, making chords, was like working with an incredible new synthesiser.' Rashid and Munden explore related ideas centered on kinetic energy and communal movement throughout the visuals of Murmurations. Rashid says of the collaboration, 'We were both having discussions around the purity of collective human experience and how transcendental this can be. Techno and the dance-floor is one of the last true expressions of this euphoria.'

From the beat-less introduction 'Boids' onwards you can hear uncanny patterns and sounds rising up from the sea of voices -- not traditional chords or harmonies, but complex interference patterns that play tricks on the mind and merge perfectly with SMD's distinctive synth tonalities and instinctive dancefloor nous. At times you might hear hints of Bulgarian choral music, or Cocteau Twins, or avant-garde composers like Iannis Xenakis or Pauline Oliveiros - but really, thanks to the creative freedom of SMD's working methods, it is a sound completely of its own, something all too rare in an age of retro and reference.

Ford and Shaw still have the same love of pure sound, human harmonies and electronic possibilities that they did when they first met at university, and it's clear that their career path has allowed them to nurture this love and express it as vividly as ever before.

Daniel Avery - Slow Fade Ep

Daniel Avery returns to Phantasy for a 4-track limited edition 12' vinyl EP, Slow Fade, featuring the title track and first single from his much-anticipated sophomore LP, upcoming in April via Phantasy.

A prelude to the LP's sonic exploration of the twilight world of a personal, transient life spent between clubs, hotel rooms, airports and home, Slow Fade captures the expanded foundations of Avery's sonic palette. Arresting club moments linger under the surface, but the focus is on the smudged ambience that underpin Avery's grasp on rave euphoria.

As a re-entry into a broader musical universe, 'Slow Fade' is immediately compelling, combining neo-acid, feedback loops and pure atmosphere at a patient but restrained pace. Meanwhile, 'After Dark' alters this aesthetic to it's raw, pensive elements, stripping Avery's distinctive drums completely, revealing a meditative, ambient fog.

'Radius' announces itself with industrial intent, before unfolding seamlessly into a wistful electronic hymn, the perfect soundtrack to brooding London skies, and eventually evolving into slow-motion motorik. Closing the EP, 'Fever Dream' finds Avery at club tempo, but in a somewhat agitated state, on this occasion focusing on a paranoid rhythm that emerges clean from eerie, even paranoid territory. Close your eyes, press repeat.

LP+DL

To those familiar with the output of Cologne-based imprint Firm from back in the early '00s, the name of Geiger, alias Nass, shall undoubtedly ring a bell. Herald of an hedonistic melange of funk- soaked electro pop and guitar-riddled synth music, sitting somewhere close to acts like Ween and Junior Boys, Alexander Geiger is about to break a eight-year hiatus with the drop of his debut album under the newly-founded moniker of Fahrland. A release that both encompasses a healthy dose of the discoid tropes from the Firm era but also aspires to split with a segment of it, geared towards exploring further undisclosed fringes of his shape-shifting sound universe, 'Mixtape Vol.1' is the fruit of a decisive move from the sleepless Berlin to the peaceful countryside landscapes of Fahrland - a lushly forested area near Potsdam which you'll have understood played an essential role in Geiger's longed-for return. Versatile and inclusive, the album sweeps a polyamorous gamut of styles and tempos like an answer to the virtual prisons that inhibit us on a daily basis, straying away from normative standards and classic full-length calibration as a result. Instead weaving a singular narrative course, clear from all type of shackles and chains, Geiger navigates on sight, reflecting on notions as wide and universal as freedom, friendship and love across a multiversal patchwork of sounds and feels. From the languid sexy vibe of 'Beggin', 'Plastic People' and 'Yesterday' - all three featuring the sensual whispers of multi-talented vocalist and artist MZ Sunday Luv, through the heavily vocodized, chip- implemented groove of I AM ROBOT - reminiscent of Telex and Space Art, balearic jazz & rap shine of 'Sky So High', smokey lounge ambience of 'L AND H' onto broader ambient-friendly spans such as 'Suspension', 'Windshield Gently Wipers' and the smooth, sun-basking closer 'Get Down', each track holds a fragile cocooned world at its heart.

Earth Trax & Newborn Jr. - Maze EP

Hypnotizing Nostalgia that Dictates the Dance Floor.
.
With previous releases on Rythm Section, Echovolt and Les Yeux Orange, Earth Trax & Newborn Jr. are unapologetically consistent in building a legacy. The Maze EP is the fourth collective delivery of the duo, sent off into the world by Dopeness Galore. While hypnotizing synths dictate the dance floor, it is hard to resist the Balearic arrangements of new wave nostalgia. The record elevates through soothingly repetitive Ambient dreamscapes, while minimalist entrancement pulls us right back into underground territory. The EP represents a side A. meant for club settings and a more Ambient side B. Once the vocals on A2 set the tone, we bear witness to what seems to be the true ethos of the 'Maze EP':
"Where There's a Will, There's a Way".

Fahrland - Mixtape Vol. 1 LP+DL+MC Limited

LP+DL+MC Limited

Knlb - Initialize

Initialize

12inchVIBR010
Vibraphone Records
23.06.2017

While the resurgent Vibraphone may be known for its silky smooth deep house confections, the Italian label also has other interests guiding its musical policy. The seemingly unknown KNLB steps up to prove this on Initialize by serving up a rich and engrossing broth of tracks loaded with depth and detail. "Second Wind" takes on a slow breakbeat trip with lingering piano sprinkled on top, while "Apollo" comes on like a warm and energised twist on dub techno motion. "Initialize" heads for a more introverted kind of house, which Minimono then infect with a bouncy energy on their remix.
