Ammar 808 - Maghreb United

AMMAR 808 is a fantastic proposition: North African music pulled through the vortex of a Tunisian producer with his eye on the bass bins. Maghreb United has a range of excellent singers from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia sitting at the centre of an ecstatic whirl of traditional instrumentation, distorted treatments, and big booming bass and drum patterns. Brilliant, energetic stuff, out on the Glitterbeat label.

Kid Machine - Space Elite

It's been a while since Red Laser's last release which left a void in the UK output of Manctalo synth jams but now a planned schedule of three releases in quick succession means plenty more analogue chug for you to rattle your bones to.
First of the 3 is this unique double gatefold LP from Red Laser original Kid Machine.Kid Machine delivers a 5 star upgrade to the signature sound that people worldwide have fallen in love with. 808 kicks and DX 7 licks bubble under the atmospheric chord changes creating a soundtrack which is just as comfortable on the dance floor as it is on a midnight drive.Alien Dance darts around to irregular delight. The dramatic score of Asteroids builds until it soars high above the grid. The bassline on Beast drills a blackened dance floor in preparation to be replaced with 80's discotheque neon squares.Beyond Cygnus takes flight and drifts across a Martian plane. The 808 kicks and orchestral synth stabs of Conquest crush all known reality into a space the size of a photon and the weight of its gravity is unbeatable. Standing out amongst the pack is the apply titled 'Forever Machine'.
A proper Manctalo synth anthem guaranteed to deliver speaker destruction. The LP closes with classic Machine style bangers 'Flight Manoeuvres' and 'Seconds From Oblivion'.
They bring this galactic odyssey to a confident end. This is a cracking journey through the outer rim and back.

Vactrol Park - Music from the Luminous Void

Only one month after the release of their first ep on MT on May 2018, Vactrol Park continue surprising, this time with a full LP in the shape of 'Music from the Luminous Void'.The album sees VP delve much deeper into more atmospheric realms. Using modular synths and unexpected drum machine sequencing they leave the 4X4 beats behind in favor of off-world rhythms and ever growing bass. Starting with Drops's high frequency tension, laying on top of those heavy kick drums it keeps on growing and growing. From there it moves to the 'End of the party' groove that is Novikov's Notation, and its trippy monotonic rhythm. The A-side ends with the heavy sampled ambient track Macbeth, bringing forward that mesmerizing flute solo by Italian artist Luca Spagnoletti yet succeeding in avoiding the kitsch, and with a touch of class. The B-side delves even deeper into ambience and atmospheric muzak. Starting with Bells, that features again Spagnoletti on flute. Then we get into the real gems of the album - Anstruther and Glove. The first is a pure trip into modular psychedelia and repetitive jazzy-like drum rhythms, creating tension right from the start and plays with it throughout the track before decaying slowly into Glove, which is in sense both the catharsis and the decompression session of the album. Like a 2018 version of Vangelis, this track's soundscape will keep you dreaming with your eyes closed long after the album ends.

Cuthead - Big Time Ep

We got Cuthead on Rat Life Number 12. You probably know this guy. He is respected worldwide for his one of a kind House and Hip-Hop productions. Lately he said, he got a bit bored with all the soulful jazzy sampling, the groovy shuffles and the catchy hooklines. So, he decided to do something a little different for Rat Life Records. Well, thank you Sir! Happy to present these five variations of banging sounds!

Max Loderbauer - Brightbird Remixes

Max Loderbauer, who has so far made consistently engaging contributions to the Arjunamusic family, is back to lend his unique interpretive skills to the master recordings for the Brightbird album by João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Mário Franco and Samuel Rohrer. Loderbauer has set himself up for a chal- lenge, since the original album's completely improvised flow of small-ensemble, conversational jazz feels complete enough without outside intervention. However, Loderbauer's role as electronics operator in the similarly attuned Ambiq trio has already shown that, through his mastery of tone color, he has a talent for teasing out the additional hidden details within an apparently 'complete' sonic environment. It's a task he mana- ges to accomplish without ever overriding or contradicting the cohesive message provided by his collaborators.

Adding to the challenge here, Loderbauer chooses to re- mix using only sounds from the original recordings. By doing so, it might seem he is willfully denying himself the chance to use his own signature tools and turn Brightbird's source materi- al into stunningly new electro-acoustic hybrid blooms. Yet Loderbauer succeeds here by becoming something more like a translator than an augmenter - he finds a way to make mea- ningful syntactical changes to the trio's rich and versatile vo- cabulary, and once again unveils a verdant world of hidden details in the process.

The A-side 'Trusting Heart/Cosmos' has an anxious tone introduced by a set of Doppler-effected piano notes that seem to melt in the sun, and is soon complemented by a va- riegated, chattering rhythm line. Here Loderbauer builds up a tactile tension between rhythmic certainty and sharp-angled, de-tuned, and occasionally scrambled instrumentation, framing a disorienting (yet engaging) virtual space where ob- jects' bright hues rapidly change as they contract and expand along multiple dimensions. For the b-side 'Noontide', Lo- derbauer switches to a more focused and streamlined idiom with an uncanny ease, riding along steady waves of sequencer patterning and silvery, resonant shiverings. Reverberating, ho- lographic piano again provides the tonal center here, and the notes ring with a forward-thinking optimism not far removed from classics of the 'Krautrock' era.

Current supporters of all the artists involved will find this to be an invigorating synopsis of their work to date, while newcomers will be treated to a soundworld where skillful fu- sion (the act itself, rather than the music genre with the same name) is constantly on display.

Susso Seki Singh - Orange Sunshine
  • A1: Afro Cosmic
  • A2: Edge Of Time
  • A3: Levitation
  • B1: Night Drive
  • B2: Orange Sunshine

Orange Sunshine is the debut album from cross-continental trio Susso Seki Singh, consisting of Jally Kebba Susso on Kora, Andrea Seki on Harp, and Kiranpal Singh on Santoor.

The album was the brainchild of Youth, the ever-exploring producer, and founder of new label, Painted Word. He wanted to create an album that brought together these talented artists into a hypnotic and entrancing journey of traditional stringed instruments from across the globe, merging them all together with his subtle electronic elements. The album is a meditative exploration of these three instruments, constantly evolving melodies build upon arpeggiated sequences that pull the listener into hidden depths between the layers of moving sound.

The impeccable Kora parts come from Susso, who comes from a background of 74 generations of musical heritage, and was exposed to incredible musicianship from a very early age under the guidance of his father the late Bully Suso, a very well-respected kora player.

Seki's Celtic Harp explores paths that combine the contemporary bard traditions with different ethnic genres, using ancient techniques like Clairseach (Gaelic harp). Whilst Singh plays the Santoor, an ancient 100 stringed Indian Classical instrument. He spent ten years studying the santoor in the guru-shishya tradition in Mumbai, under the master instrumentalist of the Santoor, Shivkumar Sharma.

Max Berlin - Elle Et Moi

Ghent record store Music Mania amazes vinyl lovers with stunning reissue of New Beat Classic "Elle et Moi" by Max Berlin.'Elle et Moi', will be out Recordstoreday 22nd april 2017. Brought to you by Music Mania Reprise, the new sub label of Music Mania Records.

Ghent record store Music Mania amazes vinyl lovers with stunning reissue of New Beat Classic 'Elle et Moi' by Max Berlin.

'Un coin de rue', (French for street corner) are the very first words of the song 'Elle et Moi' by Max Berlin, a sexy song that became a New Beat underground classic in the 80s and a much sought-after gem among dj's all over Belgium. Situated on an obscure street corner in Ghent, legendary vinyl walhalla Music Mania will be releasing a beautiful reissue of the legendary song.

The hot and heavy track is filled with French Gainsbourg-style sentences like 'aimez-moi' (love me) and 'sa voix m'appelle' (her voice calls me) that are whispered in a way that will make every lady urgently get down to business. If you add to that a groovy but very slow disco beat, you can be sure to have a classic on your hands. If the singer then appears to be a cousin of disco legend Cerrone, you know that it's time to get to the record store and buy yourself a copy. Aimez-moi We sure do.

TWIN TRIBES - SHADOWS LP

Twin Tribes is a dark synth duo based in Brownsville, Texas. Formed by Luis Navarro (vocals, guitar, synths, drum machines) and Joel Niño, Jr. (bass, synths, vocals) in 2017. They gather their influences from the dark side of the 80s. Darkwave, post-punk and cold wave are only some of the genres that the band summons using analogue synthesizers and drum machines, bass and guitar. Dark melodic sounds, lyrics of the undead, the occult and parallel universes are what conjure Twin Tribes.
SHADOWS is Twin Tribes' debut album. Dreamy synth waves and vocals, guitars drowned in vintage analogue chorus, astral-like instrumentals are some of the sounds you will find in its 9 tracks. Clearly inspired and influenced by the dark side of the 80s and very specially by the 1982 movie 'The Dark Crystal', but SHADOWS is an entity of its own. Vampires, witches and other dimensions are only specks of darkness you will meet while listening to its haunting sound. For our vinyl release we have made a specific master from the original mixes and created an all-new artwork and band logo.We are proud to present SHADOWS in a limited, hand numbered edition, housed in a matt finish b&w/silver pantone sleeve including a double sided insert and download code.

Superpitcher - The Golden Ravedays 4

2

Musically and emotionally, Superpitcher's third full-length studio album, The Golden Ravedays is a one sound autobiography that exhibits the skill, feeling and style that the artist has honed over a period of twenty years, musically, and forty-plus-years, emotionally.

And full-length it is:

The Golden Ravedays is an epic album of 24 tracks that was released in January 2017 and is stretching over 12 respective chapter albums during a one-year period.

The fourth chapter of The Golden Ravedays saga will be released on Hippie Dance in April 2017.

Number 4 of the series introduces two further tracks of the sound adventure that Superpitcher is taking us on this year.

Side A features Blood and Berry.

It is a captivating track that reminds one of the very first years when Superpitcher made music under the alias Sir Positive.

The beat is broken and the going is slow and rolling and the listening is a warm bath. There are flutes there that one never wants to stop and they almost don't. However essentially sweet this track is, like a berry on the tongue, it might lead to some blood on the dance floor!
Listening to Side B of this Golden Ravedays edition is entering a ghost town, alone, under a full moon.

Howl is a confluence of melodies and rhythms from Africa to Arabia where the snakes are being charmed out of their baskets and it is downright creepy.

A spooky voice is saying something but we don't know what exactly and it is bothersome because deep down we know that tonight when we are alone in the dark, we should be ready with the answer - or else.

All we can do is wonder:

Did Superpitcher sell his soul to the vampires for the vocals he let lose in this track

He answers by howling at the full moon behind thorn trees, in the shadows.

Entertaining, thoughtful and brave!

We salute the wolves and their master.

Hooo-oooowl!

Marten Van Der Vleuten - Presents Integrity 'outrage´

R&S welcome Dutch dance icon Maarten van der Vleuten back into the fold. - 'Outrage' is a compilation of Maarten van der Vleuten's Integrity project tracks, originally released on R&S sub-label Outrage Recordings in 1992, now remastered by Matt Colton Maarten van der Vleuten is one of the most influential figures in the Dutch scene, and also a man of many aliases - between 1987 to 2007 he racked up releases with over two dozen projects producing Detroit techno, electro, house, experimental and ambient tracks and remixes. Still highly active and inspired in 2018, R&S see the Outrage release as a perfect opportunity to re-introduce Van der Vleuten's masterful productions to a new generation, adding to his existing influential fans such as Optimo, Global Communication, Ellen Allien and Dave Clarke. During the 90s he recorded mainly dance/techno for R&S Records, as Orpheus, 48V Phantom Power and Mantrax. He also memorably released on Apollo Records (check his excellent In-Existence 'Moonwater' album), Djax-Up-Beats, See Saw and Klang Elektronik amongst others.
Van Der Vleuten's ongoing collaboration with R&S founder Renaat Vanderpapeliere saw the later set up Outrage Recordings in early 1992 to release Van der Vleuten's tracks that didn't fit on R&S Records, recording as Integrity, Zimt, Flux and Pultec.
'Every couple of weeks i would drive up to Ghent with my new tracks and meet Renaat,' explains Martin. "We then went straight to Foon Mastering where we played the DATs and decided which tracks would be cut - i had carte blanche when it came to the 'sound' of the label. Van der Vleuten's music on Outrage Recordings moved in the opposite direction of the contemporary rave and gabber scenes; while Techno became faster and shifted to a more aggressive sound, Van der Vleuten focused more on composing and arranging over danceability. This resulted in these EP's being difficult to sell back in 92 but listening now it feels vital and fresh well over two decades since they were recorded which is an obvious sign of
Van Der Vleuten's deft talent. The release also includes Van der Vleuten's collaborations with another dutch icon, Mike Kivits (aka DJ Aardvarck). The pair first met In 1989 when Kivits would sometimes play his demos on cassette-tapes at local clubs. The pair became fast friends and Van Der Vieuten invited Kivits into the studio where they found a natural chemistry that ultimately resulted in the tracks 'Nightshift' and 'Intens' which feature on 'Outrage', both written and recorded on the same day.

A Sagittariun - Pseudo Science

We've been closely watching the rise of A Sagittariun ever since he first popped up with his consistently excellent Elastic Dreams label back in 2011. What started out as an anonymous project has since been revealed as the handiwork of Nick Harris, a long time champion of the Bristol house and techno scene since before most of us were even hitting the dance. His music has been flying out with a no nonsense approach - self-released, minimal promo, just cracking club-ready 12"s that tap into the fierce-but-fun spirit of Detroit techno and albums loaded with smokers delights to appease his West Country roots.

"Pseudo Science" wastes no time in imparting a message of bristling kinetic energy for peak time situations. This is maximal techno of the highest order, firing off a body-popping beat, a dazzlingly bright set of chords and a delirious lead that cuts through like the house lights being thrown on in a darkened basement four hours before closing time. There's a confidence that bursts out of this track that could only come from someone who has earned his stripes in the cut and thrust of what can at times be a fickle dance music scene.

"Heavy Manners" plays a foil to this boisterous A-side without dipping the energy levels. Sagi still has his pedal to the metal, but this time he winds through mystical, filter sweeping pads that hark back to synth rich early 90s trance séances of the highest caliber. The bubbling 303 only further fuels this sense of psychoactive flashback, and the hypnotic film sample provides the perfect icing on the cake. Leave your functional subtleties at the door, this is loud and proud body and mind music transmitting from the part of a soul still stomping in a field somewhere near the M25 orbital.

SUILVEN is the anticipated first album from FINIFLEX in 20 years and comes off the back of the momentum driven by
the singles TA TA OO HA and BONUS FREAKS both of which feature on this double album and have received radio airplay on BBC Radio Scotland and DJ support

'insert quote from Lord Of The Isles'

FINIFLEX have been playing the new material live since the end of 2016 with gigs in Edinburgh (Neu Reekie), Glasgow (Let's Go Way Back) Skye (Non Stop Easter Weekender) Barcelona (Kosmopolis), Dundee (Carnival 56) and the TA TA OO HA Single Launch Party (TRANSMISSION) in Glasgow.
The show itself is an immersive experience featuring lights, live projections and video graphics, basically a super slick production rammed with back to back bangers.

In addition, to support the Album release, John has created a live DJ set of the tracks for clubs/ radio instores and radio features which we will be touring from June 2018.

These new releases may by the first in 20 years but in reality it's not been such a long period of silence. The almost a secret FINIFLEX Studio Complex (FINIFLEX HQ) based in Leith, Edinburgh has continued to work away with some of the best in the genre including the likes of Justin Robertson, Lord Of The Isles, DJ Rolando, Andrew Weatherall, Sparks, Billy McKenzie, John Pleased Wimmin, Paul Oakenfold, Dave Ball (Soft Cell) to name a few.
It's a given that their past assures their pedigree within the electronic music arena but with the release of SUILVEN. . . . . FINIFLEX brings it all rushing into the future. . . . . .

John Shima - Elements Unknown

The Fifth EP on FireScope Records, the new sub label of the legendary B12 Records, welcomes Mr John Shima. Established in Sheffield in the early 90's with a multitude of releases, John has appeared on Ferox, Boe Recordings, Common Dreams, Diametric, and Subwax to name but a few ! The EP entitled Elements Unknown, is pure techno for laying back in a dark room and floating away, highly detailed layers of electronic sounds interweaved together to create emotion rarely found in electronic music. Drawing inspiration from UK pioneers such as B12, Stasis, LFO, Black Dog but delivering it in a modern way, John has managed to carve out his own unique sound while staying true to his roots. This is uncorrupted UK techno in its purest form.
Elements ' Wonderful swirling pads, envelope a crisp drum track and set the pace for a pure retro DX bassline to punch its way over the top. Sit back and close your eyes.
'Symbols' A pure sci-fi FM workout. Metallic sine waves modulating each other to create a kind of robotic funk.
'Implant' This track is driven along by a gorgeous bobbing bassline and consistent drum rhythm. The top line synths interplay with each other and create a wall of sound while pure 90's pad sings its song 'Illuminate' This track has the slowest vibe on the EP and is almost hypnotic in its delivery. Pads and Drums constantly evolve and will carry you away to some place we can only dream of. Finished in glorious blue and grey marble vinyl with exclusive full colour artwork by the amazing J. Muslimgauze - Maroon

Muslimgauze

Maroon

12inchARCHIVEFORTYTWO
Staalplaat
30.09.2018

Separated from both its reputation and its sleeve art, the music of Muslimgauze explores the relationship of visual sensations - space, colour, depth, illusion - to the listening experience. The music on 'Maroon' is dub-like inspired techno music, laid back with voices appearing randomly in the mix. The thick drums and rich found sounds that densely populate the soundscapes on "Maroon" give materiality to the warm presence of the synth washes. The music is so layered and textured that it ceases to be aural and exists almost solely in the realm of sight and touch. Devoid of reference to any external reality, Muslimgauze's Ambience gets remoulded by subjective experience and moved around in the memory. By shifting the quality of perception with the producer's sleight of hand, Bryn Jones (the Mancunian behind Muslimgauze) makes explicit the interiority of the senses. Thus, the fact that our inner life determines our relationship to the world outside becomes the music's unspoken subject. Divorcing Muslimgauze's music from its image is like listening to Take That without seeing Robbie's pelvis or Mark's pouting. This is precisely why the music is so effective. Relocating music's power within the listener instead of as an external force acting upon the listener forces reappraisal and reinterpretation. The muezzin's wailing call to prayer and the shrieks of women mourning the dead conjure up images of a fierce 'death-to-the-infidels' fervour in the Western imagination, and are recast as holy prayers for the ultimate, womb-like peace that most Ambient music aims to express. The usually easy exoticism of sampled tablas and ouds instead hint at the dread on the road to the water coloured bliss of run-of-the-mill Ambient and force the listener to internalise difference and confront the received images of Islam that Muslimgauze detour by such strong powers of suggestion.

It is ZULI's most cohesive, complex and original work to date, exhibiting his constant growth as an artist.

Dj Koze - Knock Knock (ltd Box Set 3LP+CD+7''+10'')

More than ever before on Koze's records, there are fascinating, individualist - and well-known - voices through out Knock Knock but again, each of them is rendered strange, drawn into a different reality Bon Iver's ghostly hymnals samples on Bonfire' are very recognisably Bon Iver, but the way they twist and merge with synthetic sounds until choir and computer are writhing around one another in bliss are something else. The ever-unique Róisín Murphy, on two stunning tracks, becomes a cyborg funk diva. Speech from Arrested Development delivers luscious and lazy R&B-funk on Colors of Autumn', but Koze's warping bass, dubwise echo and alien nature sounds take it to an alternate dimension tropical landscape. Kurt Wagner of Lambchop is a vocoder bohemian, Sophia Kennedy is a sci-fi Weimar cabaret star, José Gonzalez a holographic projection from an old film of South Sea Islands... on it goes, nothing is real, everyone is an inhabitant of Koze-world.

HOGG returns to SCRAPES with a full-length recording made at Electrical Audio. Self-Extinguishing Emission captures the physicality and energy of a HOGG performance over the last several years, while the song-writing and production show a refinement and development that is uniquely HOGG. The songs are built around a spare foundation of heavy electronic pulses punctured by occasional stabs of distorted guitar, floor tom, and biological samples. Dueling vocals of diverse sonic and emotional quality render each song into a pleasurable exploration of internal conflict within a brutal psychological atmosphere

Alek Lee - Colors

Alek Lee

Colors

Antinote
24.05.2018

Alek Lee's second 12' on Antinote starts with an uptempo opening to a rather downtempo record. Playing with some of the genre (namely, deep house) codes like the use of a politically-aware speech or vibes, Alek Lee can't resist to give Time his special treatment nonetheless: using some of his dubby tools and bringing in a warm trumpet he takes the song onto a rather windy road. Don't fall for it though: Time is a red herring...
.
The next song is without doubt more immediately recognizable as an Alek Lee's tune with its slightly Pink Floydian vibe and its overall jam feel. On Kesef, the musician whispers in a tunnel of sound effects, joined by his beloved melodica and a nonchalant electric guitar.

Those who dug his previous EP might want to check out Colors and its nemesis - Dark Colors - on the flip side. Borrowing some of the ingredients he put into Sfarot, Alek Lee cooks a set of two eerie dubs. On Colors, the dark and thumping instrumental backs the voice of an impossible child, a creature bred in Tel-Aviv musician's most twisted fantasies. Meanwhile, Dark Colors paradoxically takes a much more sentimental path. No voice this time but an emotionally-drenched melodica-lead breaking through a foggy environment of ominous synths and enigmatic noises to round off Lee's mistier record so far.

Fluxion - Ripple Effect 2x12"

Fluxion's Ripple Effect is the film score for a non-existing motion picture. This 9-track album is the result of experimentation and the combination of the producer's two most cherished art forms: electronic music and score music. Ironically the two worlds rarely seem to meet, despite the fact that score music has adopted a looser form in order to better adapt to film accompaniment, bringing it closer to electronic music which attempts to contradict form or shed it altogether. Fluxion felt the need to bring these two musical forms into dialogue with each other, lending structure to electronic and deconstructing score music to create a malleable and expressive hybrid. The album's production took two years from its original conception for the subliminal story to unfold into the completed product. Fluxion wanted to say as much as possible through the music, leaving the visuals as a blank canvas for the listener to create their own story. In the end, the goal is to give each member of the audience a unique audiovisual experience based on their own perception and interpretation.

"free-folk-informed update on Amon Düül".
gemeinsame - mithin sogar ekstatische! - Erfahrung ermöglicht. Wie bereits auch "HD Trailer" (2014) wurde
"Kräuter der Provinz" in Darmstadts autonomen Zentrum Oetinger Villa als Abbild der Konzertsituation
aufgenommen.
