It's been three years now since the foodboys released their last recording, the critically acclaimed album 'Cajun Lunch'. Three years is a long time for en electronic act to stay silent, (but three years is not a long time when you consider what has been going on in
the Ost&Kjex camp.) The release was followed by extensive touring (leaving Kjex with a few extra gray hairs, Ost with hardly none left). The birth of two new babies adding the joint families to eight. Moving to suburbia. Building new studios. Slowly but surely working on a new album. Dark clouds descending on Europe. Economic crisis and what not! The frantic times has definitely put a mark on their music as the Lulu EP shows a more somber duo than we know from Cajun Lunch. The title track is a classic moody house
bomb with a monster of synth riff riding on into the sunset. Vocals urging you to hold on! Indie sees the boys trying out new territory. The track also has a story. The boys were going about their usual business in the studio when an indie band started rehearsing next
door. The baseline struck a chord and they started singing along. The next few hours were spent trying to recapture what they heard and turn it into the house format. Adding to the magic they brought in famous Norwegian vocalist/guitarist Anne Lise Frøkedal known for her roles in indie bands I Was A King and Harrys Gym, her lush voice fitting perfect into the blue and bluesy atmosphere of the song. And fellas, let's face it, you could never do such a sexy guitar line! The EP is rounded up by Harpiks, a tripping house track with Kjex taking you for a roundabout in the Norwegian winter forest. And hey! It's even got a message: Don't you know that's how it grows and it shows!

Clone Royal Oak and Chicken Lips present Randee Jean.
A new project by Dean Meredith and Andrew Meecham (Chicken Lips, Bizarre Inc) delivering some classic jazzy rhodes driven uk house vibes! Classy production and some fine recorded instruments and vocals on the original mix. Dexter & Awanto3 teamed up for the occasion and deliver two fresh and sharp remixes. Arttu, the Finnish boy wonder played around with the recordings too and came up with a heavy 4/4 thump with layers of samples that let the funk out.

Last year Kyodai dropped Breaking, which to date is the biggest selling release on Local Talk.
Now the brothers are back with in our opinion a future house anthem. The Scene is a classic piano house cut that's impossible to resist and together with one the coolest vocal samples we've ever heard we think this has the potential to go really big. When the breakdown drops we're pretty sure everybody in the club will chant.
But as if this was not enough we also got another big tune on the b-side. Moving is the continuation of 'Breaking' and goes along the same lines with its crossover jazz styled house. Once again Kyodai delivers a supa solid house production with large jazz breakdowns and old school vocals that's right up their with 'Breaking'. This is also why we called it...Breaking pt.2. Kyodai is currently working on their debut album for Local Talk which is due later this year. They're also travelling around the world with their amazing live DJ set that we highly recommend.
Trust us when we say that these two brothers really now how to turn up the heat in a club...serious biz!

Soosh is the recording name of Soroosh Khavari, an electronic music producer born inIranand raised inScotland. After EP releases and appearances on numerous European record labels (including remixes by Lapalux and Jameszoo) Soosh's debut long player 'Colour is Breathe' will be released with Error Broadcast. The name may sound familiar for his critically acclaimed remix of Shlohmo's 'Couch', which was released by Error Broadcast in 2011.
The artist follows up his debut effort - 2011's Soosh EP - with 'Colour is Breathe'. In many respects, it continues exploring the folds that fuse blissful textural ambience and humanised beats, whilst adding a euphoric pop-twist that marks his distinctive sound. The artist's trademark low-swung melodic hip-hop and organic instrumentation, ever prevalent in his previous releases, is countered and enhanced by moments of dreamy and endearing delicacy. Elegant sound design runs deep within the songs but it is also at play in the carefully processed vocals. The record balances lilts that are reminiscent of Nathan Fake, Nosaj Thing and How to Dress Well, with the mellow and lyrical pop silhouettes of Cocorosie and The xx. The result is a musical jamboree, creating a unique album that must be experienced rather than just heard. We are left with not so much a record as a mood itself.


Soosh's proclivity towards perfecting beats that characterise his taste is obvious from the first listen. 'Colour is Breathe' is both intricate and intimate; its wispy notes and pastel melodies at times make the album an intimate headphone affair. Equally, however, these are songs to be shared and appreciated with friends, as well as on discerning dance floors as slow, organic dance music. Soosh's latest effort is a wander through the beat-making science that was born out of LA andLondon, bringing a fresh perspective on melody and texture with honeyed pop sensibilities. The artist's younger sister, Carmel Khavari, contributes vocals that brim with longing and love, gracing the record with an allure that makes it somewhat indefinable for either genre or gender. Here it is: an album in which words provide warmth and cadences are coated. There is motion and reflection, reverie and resolve, and all seems to drift in a dusky, intense and truly heart-warming haze.

Chris Burns steps out on his own with NJ Records' third release. He is also one half of M+C along with label honcho Mike Simonetti. Chris has worked with Mike on various projects, including mixing duties on Simonetti's Capricorn Rising lp. This emotional two-track 12' showcases Burns' varied influences and strong songwriting abilities.

I.Y.E., co-written and sung by Denise Henderson, is a peak-hour track that draws upon Burns' passion for powerful, NY-inspired vocal house. Burns has created a tough, grooving backdrop that highlights Henderson's incredible ability to juxtapose subdued and expressive vocal deliveries. The result is a triumphant and crowd-pleasing chorus that incites strong, visible reactions on an increasingly discerning dancefloor.
'E-Mo Systems' takes a more melancholic approach and is inspired by Fall foliage experienced in D.C.'s leafy Rock Creek Park. Swollen bass textures and ambient melodies are punctuated by a minor key chord progression that resolves into a sublime climax. This new age inspired instrumental is perfect for lights-on, end of the night moments of magic.

2020 Vision drop 'Surreal' this coming February by Mancunian producer Freak Seven, backed with remixes from Sebo K.
Naveed Akhtar aka Freak Seven has been involved with electronic music for over a decade, first stepping on to the scene with releases under his own name for Regal sub-label New Religion. Akhtar has since gone on to release highly praised singles for the likes of Rush Hour, Ilian Tape and released the anthemic 'We Bring The Music' on 2020Vision back in January 2012 where he returns to here.
The release opens with the original version of 'Surreal', a heady Detroit influenced cut that embraces raw, shuffling rhythms, a penetrating acidic bass-line and Akhtar¹s signature low-pitched, spoken word vocal lines from Aniff Akinola. Seven's production abilities shine through when he introduces an amalgamation of melodic elements to brilliantly play off and contrast against one another in harmony. The result is a retro in spirit yet undoubtedly forward thinking house track. An instrumental version is offered up next and as the name suggests it gets down to the nitty-gritty with a straight raw drum and synth vibe.
Mobilee's main man Sebo K turns in a mix of 'Surreal' next, reshaping the cut with his signature swinging house sound. Weighty 909 drums lead the way alongside a hooky bass, sporadic Hammond organ chords and snippets of the original vocal lines. All infused with Sebo's deep soulfulness and simple yet effective automation touches such as a subtle, intermittent delay on the tracks stabbing bass lick. A 'Dub' version of the mix is provided too, Sebo strips back the original feel and introduces a bright synth stab that's smoothly dubbed and drawn out throughout its near seven minutes with some extra ethereal pad lines to boot, creating a tasteful after-hours interpretation.

Lithuanian deep house & disco maestro Mario Basanov drops his debut single 'More for the Less' on Apersonal Music with the help from talented Toronto's local figure Jeremy Glenn ripping it off on the vocals. First single out from Mario after releasing his successful album 'Journey', and with the unique touch of a Basanov-Glenn join for this special collaboration.
A good feel, boogie monster if there ever was one, 'More for the Less' has a definite early 80's prelude feel to it, updated with the immaculate production talent of Mario to a fresh, upfront production keeping the deep end of dance floor happily dancing.
First remix comes courtesy of Pablo Bolivar & Maurice Aymard who injects a late 80s house feel to it, giving the vocal more space and keeping the drums tight and in control of the song. 2nd up we have our good friend Michael J Collins, coming out of a long production rest for our enlightenment dropping an ace 90s inspired remix with old school samples, break beats and some good feel to it - this is a perfect end for the night groover.
Additionally Mario himself delivers his dub version which takes a more straight approach with sparse vocals, added stabs and a more melodic bass with an acid feeling, focusing more on clubs and the dance floor then the original version.

Collateral is a mixed Parisian trio, polarised between synthetic hints and electric inspirations. Qualified experts in melancholic dance
music (majoring in suburbian minimal wave and Italians Do It Better productions), they have remixed artists such as Keren
Ann, Arnaud «Blackstrobe» Rebotini, Chad Valley or Tanlines, and recorded a couple of EPs in association with the blazing
producer Villeneuve (collaborator of M83, Anoraak, Team Ghost...), both released in 2012 by Desire records. Performing
live, they can rely on their monomaniac friend Rolande, devoted rhythm machine.
Black EP is their second 12'' EP for desire after the White EP that was released last April. It comes on 12" black vinyl with black
labels. The sleeve comes in a matt finish with the text in spot gloss varnish. Limited edition.

One of South Africa's finest tag teams, Monocles & Slezz, are up next on Foliage Records with a delicious slice of deep dance, Only Love. The pair is backed by Brit house producer Andy Compton, of The Rurals fame, and accomplished US vocalists Tantra Zawadi and DanaByrd - a soulful dream team by any stretch of the imagination.
Monocles & Slezz' original production glides on slick 4-4 drums and deep, shimmering keys, quickly pulling the listener into Zawadi and Byrd's mesmering song 'n' spoken word interplay about perfect, heaven-on-earth love, and a run of sweet, jazzy guitar and vibes solos.Russian-born studiosmith Kojo Akusa (a Johannesburg staple following the release last year of EP Sepia with The Guests Of Nature) plumbs even deeper depths, the mellow, afro-pulsin' rhythms of his exclusive remix rolling beneath a heady swirl of vocals, tinkling synths and guitars. Montreal's IndySoul (AKA DJ-producer Carl Guerard) ups the percussive ante, meanwhile, with a sweet Latin-flecked shuffle bolstered by smart but sparingly used drum rolls, powerful throbs of analogue bass, and more introspective, mightily soulful key work.
Monocles, an alter ego for DJ Matshidi (real name Tshidiso Moeng), first met Slezz UlteeMate (real name Tebogo Leshotho) in 2008,both hailing from golden South African city Welkom; both involved in music from their early teens. The pair's shared passion for a wide range of deep soulful dance, be it house, tech, Afro or broken beat, was quickly made evident and exploited, resulting in roof- raising residencies at Welkom clubs Afrovibe, De Zone and Village Palace, big remixes for local artists such as Coltrane, Room 806 and Paso Doble, and slammin' productions including Afrika and Canary Islands.
Talented young duo Monocles & Slezz have now stepped onto the international stage with Foliage. They're ready. Only Love is an exciting taste of what is to come next year when the boys finally release their debut album - musical, memorable, magical, Only Love is the kind of deep, spiritual house that makes you glad to be alive. The only vocal song on the full length, "She Sleeps" features a brilliant, haunting turn from the Friendly Fires' Ed Macfarlane. Mysterious, tender and reflective, his lyrics weave around the driving, purposeful percussion and a melody that's singularly exploratory and gentle.

The single comes with a remix package that more than does justice to the quality of the original. Holland's electronic pioneer Martyn has reworked the track into a writhing, muscular dancefloor stomp. Gang Gang Dance need no introduction, and their take on the song proves why once more. Lifting the inter beauty of the song to the fore, they've turned it into an opus of rich texture and uplifting, melancholic melody.
Ital is the solo moniker of Planet Mu's Daniel Martin-McCormick, and his remix takes things a touch darker and industrial edged, warping the melody into something altogether more ominous. Finally, exuberant London boogie-ists 2000Black have worked "She Sleeps" into a deep, hypnotic soulful groove
