Youngtee - Love Will Save Youngtee

Youngtee

Love Will Save Youngtee

12inchYOUNGTEE02
05.11.2012

Youngtee notched up his first big hitter earlier this year with his cheeky Ri Ri edit, a one-sided number stamped only with his name. We had it listed as REHAB1. The track quickly picked up heavy support from the Feel My Bicep boys, Deetron, Isa GT of Girlcore fame, Agnello and Jozif. After a summer of frequenting some of London's most popular and sought after nights, amongst them Rhythm Section and SOS, peddling his one-of-a-kind live show he set to work on this edit of the much loved and sadly departed singer Whitney Houston. Beginning with some of the news commentary surrounding her death the track is a tribute and a loving reminder of what she stood for musically.
Early support from: Ryan Elliott (Ostgut Ton), Feel My Bicep (Aus / Bicep) and others.

Shivers - Love Falls & Strangers In The Dark Ep

Massive Support by: DJ Sneak, Ritchie Hawtin, Groove Armada, Deetron, Reboot, Uner, Coyu, Joyce Muniz, Adana Twins, Richy Ahmed, Nhan Solo, Audiojack, Jozif, Lee Curtiss, El_Txef_A, Kiki, Rodriguez JR, Jesse Perez, SIS, 6th, Borough Project, KRL, Alex Niggemann, Fur Coat, Okain, J. Phlip, Andre Crom, Show-B, Homework, Viadrina, Dyed Soundorom, Guy J, Luna City Express, Daniel Solar and many more...

A1. SHIVERS* - "Love Falls' crawls up your neck like a dark anticipation. Delicate beats smoothly build to a deep bass line, until a sexy female vocal disrupts the relentless groove of the track desperately screaming: "Love falls on me". It's pure emotion - feel the raw energy boosting out of the core of your body until you hit that climax and the synthesised sounds of a tuba crys out in a dance march that you will never forget - carrying you home in ecstasy... welcome to the signature sound of SHIVERS*

A2. DANIEL DEXTER, a dear friend of our Mother's house, gives the remix a dirty, unexpected loop doing what he does best: very old school house music that has made him famous as an artist of Poker Flat. Short vocal shouts are accompanied by warm synthie steps creating a sound reminiscent of Chicago house at it's peak.

B1. THYLADOMID, this crazy lord of darkness, this stickler for details, shows off his whole manifoldness, combining a bouncy beat with a seductive groove. He carves out the coolness of the track, accentuating it with his own recorded voice that are neither male nor female or both at the same time. You'll be left behind puzzled and stunned by the power of the dark side.

B2. SHIVERS* - "Strangers in the Dark" playfully tells a story of mystery and intrigue. Whispered secrets create a sense of confusion with Dada influenced vocal lines, whilst at the same time - they give protection and warmth that cradles you through the track, holding you tight like loving motherly arms. The second breakdown creates a new mood as a deep melodic bassline grows and swells up from below, it finally rises to overcome the darkness - and opens up the veil of light and finally you catch a glimpse of that wicked SHIVERS* funk.

Frankie Knuckles Pres. Director's Cut - You Make Me Feel (mighty Real)

(SOLID RED VINYL) Nocturnal Groove present a reworking of Sylvester's 80's anthem by two of the house music's founding fathers Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper; disco credentials don't come more reputable than this. B. Slade lays down a fresh new vocal and the production is brought into the digital age on this slick reworking of one of discos most recognisable melodies; bouncier, a little bit faster and primed for a party. Get ready to re-educate the younger house generation with this. Meme takes a high energy disco approach. Pumping best describes the South American's efforts, with plenty of phaser on the melody catapulting you straight into space.

A Billion People Ep

28.11.2012

What do you get when you lock Trickski, Hollis P. Monroe and Overnite into a studio for a few days An incredible, trippy fusion of the raw, punching Trickski sound, Trademark - Monroe House grooves and the
distinctive, chilling vocals of Overnite: the "A Billion People EP"!
The title track on A1 is one hell of a dancefloor destroyer. A long, synth-laden build up, Overnite's stream of consciousness vocal and a billion people with their hands in the air!
On the B side, "The Black 80's" aka Hollis P. Monroe and Overnite rework the title track to make it a brooding, eerie piece of house music. Perfect for the early hours of the morning.
On B2, Trickski take the wheel again for their "Voyage D` Amour" - a whirlwind of synths, bass and marimbas. Melodies ducking away and reappearing where you don't expect them, analogue all the way.

Footprintz - The Favourite Game

Footprintz are on a rich run of form right now, showing a craftsmanship in their songs that is so often lacking in modern day dance music. New single 'Favourite Game' is set to further buck this trend when it drops on December 3rd (general release).
Montreal's soon to be favourite sons, Clarian North and Addy Weitzman, meet at an after hours party at the age of 15 and haven't looked back since. Their noir tinged synth pop has taken them around the world and back, and with a debut album in the pipeline (also on Visionquest) they look set to see it all again.
'Favourite Game' is the second single from the album, a new romantic jaunt with its foundations laid out by a beautifully hypnotic bass line right from the off. Percussive flares, delicately arranged chords and that distinctive Footprintz vocal delivery all weave in and out, resulting in a multi-faceted slice of psychedelic pop perfection that's sleazy in all the right ways, in all the right places.
Never one to shy away from a few top draw remixes, Visionquest drafted in Ivan Smagghe to put his own sonic spin on proceedings. His 'On A Thin Line' rework takes the original to a darker place, complete with distorted vocals and alarm noises for good measure. Visionquest's own Ryan Crosson & Lee Curtis take the original into more club friendly territory, delivering a driving house rework sure to do some damage on dance floors worldwide.
'Favourite Game' is out a limited run of 12' on November 5th, followed by a Beatport release on November 19th and general release on December 3rd.

Steve Bug & Mr. V - The Long Run

Steve Bug&Mr. V

The Long Run

12inchDESSOUS111
Dessous Records
20.11.2012

Fresh on the trail of this year's exceptional long player 'Noir', Steve Bug returns with perhaps his most deep house-oriented track in a while - 'The Long Run'. Teaming up with US house legend Mr. V, who inititally donated vocals only, the collaboration brought up Mr V's own interpretation of Bug's track. This release is as delicious a serving of classic New York deep house as you will hear all year - or any year. The a-side is Dessous' main man at the controls, riding out a sumptuous, Rhodes-driven groove that references golden era Kerri Chandler and friends, but remains completely rooted in 2012. Mr V's spoken word vocal lays out the manifesto for these two house pioneers - both are committed to quality music, made with passion and respect. Flip this 12 and you get Mr. V's stunning take on the same track. Ratcheting up the percussive elements, the New York native injects hints of the Latin rhythms that define many of his productions, making this into a stone-cold club banger whatever the party. Both tracks come with corresponding instrumental versions for the DJs, rounding out this irresistible 12' that continues Dessous' outstanding run of releases this year.

Tom Trago - Rise Up / Sky High

After Tom Trago's 'Use Me Again' took dance floors across the world by a storm this summer, 'Rise Up' / 'Sky High' is his follow up single which should fire up the crowd during the winter.
Tom Trago and Cinnaman (local Amsterdam DJ) got together in the studio and out came 'Rise Up'. They somehow managed to mix freestyle, minimal, low-fi and bass together to create a cross-over house explosion. Based around a quirky bass line and vocal, the track keeps building until a catchy synth stab drops in which elevates the track to the next level.
'Sky High' sounds like a late night basement session, which is actually the case, recorded in the studio of the Serendeepity/Barking Dogs crew from milan, with San Proper and friends joining in on vocals. A bittersweet love song in which San yearns for a simultaneous high, which is backed up by a deep, silky house groove. A late night production made for late night entertainment. Comes as vocal dub and as original demo mix.

Tensnake / Flashmob - Defected Label Sampler

Pulling together the freshest of releases, Defected are proud to present the first in a number of label samplers. Volume one here featuring Tensnake 'Mainline' and Flashmob 'Hot'.
Tensnake 'Main Line':
Despite having a relatively small number of releases and remixes to his name, Tensnake's output belies his immense reputation. An undoubted proponent of the quality-over-quantity mantra, his sound is as instantly recognisable as it is infectious. 'Mainline' is a hooky, bass-driven house anthem of the very highest order, and features the assured vocal performance from the acclaimed Rudimental collaborator and Radio 1 Xtra favourite Syron. 'Mainline' is a positive and worthy reimagining of the 'glory days' of house music. With its feel-good, retro house stylings and assured vocal performance, the new release from Tensnake looks set to be as big as its feline predecessor.

Flashmob 'Hot':

Following on from their roaring success 'Need In Me', crowned as one ofPete Tong's essential new tunes earlier this year, Italian duo Flashmob are set to cause quite a stir again, warming things up for the Winter with their forthcoming release 'Hot'. The energising swing like beat is sure to get temperatures rising whilst the down tempo bass line and classically flirtatious vocals will no doubt coax you on to the dance floor, strutting your stuff and clapping those hands. Another solid production on Defected from the Milanese twosome, proving their back-to-basics ethos does in no way compromise skill, talent or innovation.

Z Records Various Artists - Gogo Get Down Compiled By Joey Negro Vinyl Sampler

'I started buying Funk and Soul records from Soul Bowl in Norfolk in about 1980, John Anderson the owner had a big barn full to the rafters with vinyl, he would travel the breadth of the States - bringing back container loads of rare music. So many in fact it was a daunting prospect to know where to start in that crazy Barn... endless shelves many of which you could not even get at as there were so many piles of records stacked on the floor. It was here that I first discovered Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers.... 'Ashley's Roach Clip' was the sort of track title that would grab my attention According to John it was 'shite' from Washington DC... from that album I hunted out many more records, slowly putting the story together and thus finding GoGo. I even went on a pilgrimage to Washington in about 1986 on a record-buying trip... Had to ship 'em back and pay a stupid amount of tax but those tunes still rock and those toms will always roll...' Jon More (Coldcut), March 2012

'GoGo Get Down is a must for have any serious soulful record collector' Jazzie B, March 2012

'These GoGo tracks certainly brought a smile to my face. I have a monthly conversation with Ross Allen regarding the GoGo revival which we both think will happen. Wishful thinking! So it's great you guys are doing a comp of GoGo killers which in the scheme of things could prove us both wrong. A fantastic selection and believe me I shall be throwing down very hard! Put your hands up for D.C.!' Ashley Beedle

GoGo Get Down is the latest compilation from Dave Lee aka Joey Negro to be released on the Z Records label. A mammoth and rare retrospective of Washington DC's spectrum of Ghetto Funk, this collection showcases the visionary side of the GoGo scene while bringing its key artists the modern exposure they deserve.

Joey Negro gives us an insight into the vintage rhythms and chiming cowbells as well as the dedicated soul screams that pierce through the retro soul rhythm that gives GoGo its distinctive sound.

'As someone who has more or less made a career out of being a music lover, it's a great buzz to put together and release albums of these semi-forgotten genres like GoGo or our recent Brit Funk compilation. Many of the tracks included on this album are ultra obscure local-only releases which I've picked over my years of digging. Seeing a project like this through from the initial concept to the final product is quite a task at Z HQ and at points you can't help but wish you'd never started the damn thing ;-)

However, all of the graft is forgotten once the finished release arrives and you're listening to those bumpy DC grooves in all their re-mastered glory'

Spleen United - School Of Euphoria (+bonus)

Spleen United , Danish Top 10 Heroes and one of the Live Sesations on This Years Roskilde, Fusion and Reeperbahn Festivals with their first International Release. After intense up-close studies of 'unintelligent dance music', the (clever) boys in Spleen United have reinvented themselves. At the same time, they have rediscovered melody and encapsulated a captivating energy that acts as a soundtrack to their exploration of euphoria - and the (inevitable) come down the next day. The last time we heard from Spleen United, they were the kings of airplay in Denmark, with massive record sales and plenty of acclaim for their unique take on electro rock. Now it's been three years since the single 'Suburbia' was the most played track on P3 - Danish National Radio. After that, it became quiet as the four members withdrew from the limelight and immersed themselves in some intense self-study. The self-selected experimenting years have once again pushed Spleen United in new directions, although the band still sounds unmistakably like itself - with all that entails in terms of melodic flair, lyrical depth and (intense/high) energy. In their third album, School of Euphoria, Spleen United offer a bunch of coherent songs, which each have their own life on an album where the guitars and the rock sound yields some space for drum machines and other analog techno-tools/instruments/machinery. But as the first single 'Days of Thunder' stressed from the first sound/beat, the growing machine park does not change the fact that you immediately know you're listening to Spleen United. The music is still captivating, it grows and it becomes more and more insisting with each time you listen to the songs.
