Since contributing 'Hoodrat' to Coyote Kings, Chemist's momentum within instrumental grime circles has built at a fierce pace. He has put together a blistering mix for The Astral Plane, received significant radio support from key artists on Rinse FM, BBC 1Xtra and NTS, as well as an inclusion in Boxed's Volume 2 compilation. The influential Boxed crew have backed Chemist's talents further still, with an invitation to play at their peerless club night in July. Most excitingly, also in July, Coyote Records are proud to present Chemist's debut full release; two of his deadliest dubs with accompanying remixes from certified heavyweights Last Japan and Rabit. The record is Coyote's eighth; a continuation in a series of essential releases from grime's most arresting new producers. Words can't even come close to adequately illustrating the sheer frostiness of Chemist's 'Defiance' and 'Blocks', as he marries classic grime and eski motifs with sparse arrangements, brutally precise execution and contemporary influence. 'Defiance' impacts with awesome force; stark dynamic contrasts, diamond-edged percussive accents and a powerful bassline that lurks menacingly in the low-end spectrum. Rabit - a master of deconstruction - reduces the track down to its core elements and reconfigures them to deliver his own, eminently unique version. 'Blocks' is high-drama, moody instrumental grime at its best, with a climactic melody line that shimmers with an icy glare amidst barrages of speaker-punching handclaps and sunken bass hits - a proper, emotive dance-wrecking weapon. 'Blocks' is remixed by the diversely talented Last Japan, who develops the harmonies further with haunting choral synths and reworks the percussion; creating a neck-breaking swing and roll over another absolutely massive bassline. After the success of their first EP 'Bells from the Deep End', we've decided to do a follow up with this new EP. Another cracking limited edition silk screenhand/handmcut sleeve (300 copies) is to be had for early purchasers (the first one sold out almost instantly), and we expect more dancefloor deviance with their newest grooves.
Golden Teacher started life as a studio collaboration between Glasgow's experimental hardcore trio, Ultimate Thrush and Glasgow's all analogue house duo, Silk Cut. The results of their collaboration turned the ears of all who heard them, not least Twitch who after one listen asked if he could release the project on Optimo Music label.
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night is the second EP from Golden Teacher's sessions at The Green Door studio, recorded a few weeks after their first. Recorded straight to tape in one take, this record sees the group and its varying collaborators explore darker, hypnotic song structures with a heavy emphasis on polyrhythmic grooves and 6/8 time signatures. Again the music is completely improvised with dubbed-out production and mixed live.
It's a little hard to describe Golden Teacher's sound on this record (always a good thing in our book) but imagine Arthur Russell's Dinosaur L, Liaisions Dangereuses, mixed with a Shackleton edit of west African drumming. As wild as they sound on record, wait until you see them live!
This is heavy, rhythmic dance music, If you are looking for slick, smooth, generic computer made tunes, this release probably isn't for you, Sugar.

'Decadubs 3' is a vinyl-only companion-piece to Hyperdub's next birthday collection CD, 'Hyperdub 10.2' After '10.1', our first compilation of 10th anniversary dancefloor heaters, '10.2' features some of the label's best songs of the last five years, and this EP pulls tighter focus on six of that set's more body-moving moments. Hyperdub is often associated with dark and brooding instrumental music; however, this mid-summer collection sheds sunlight over that dread filled reputation, showcasing an underrated cast of talented songwriters, vocalists and producers. Laced with new cuts from Kode9, Cooly G, Morgan Zarate feauring. Eska and Ghostface Killah, Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland, DVA featuring Zaki Ibrahim, and a reversioned & revoiced contribution by Ikonika with Dam Funk, 'Decadubs 3' highlights a sometimes-overlooked aspect of Hyperdub's personality with a range of cerebral R&B, garage, funk, and icy pop. Opening Side 1, DVA is joined again by South African singer Zaki Ibrahim with their brand new summery mutant garage track 'Solid', followed by the lo-fi, bashy mutation of Kode9 & copeland's 'Lies Lies', then Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland's grime lullaby 'Signal 2012', one of their final joint works. On Side 2, Morgan Zarate's 'Sticks & Stones' is a swinging lost dub featuring the soulful Eska and Wu Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah. Dam Funk jumps on Ikonika's funk bomb 'Mr. Cake', adding a fun, party vocal for its new incarnation as 'I Know (That You Are The 1)', and finally the EP sways into the digi dub meets R & B slow jam of South Londoner Cooly G's 'Obsessed'.

Scherbe is back on Uncanny Valley with his second full length EP. After his recent contribution to the UV20-compilation and a record on Fourth Wave he returns with the aptly titled "Late Nite Safari" and shows off again his knack for rumbling beats and fuzzy synths. "Poison Hillz" builds up on steamy percussions and a slowly rising bass line arpeggio that unfolds completely when the hi-hat drops in. You won't notice that wonderful synth pad coming but when it's there everything sounds right in place. "Long Time No Sea" is based on cowbell-heavy beats and tiny xylophone sounds. Completed by a yearning vocal sample and catchy guitar licks it keeps your head nodding. Scherbe's unique drum programming makes it stand out from most of the typical Deep House tracks and he makes sure that all the elements flow together into his distinctive groove. On the flipside, "Mosqito Beach" creates a tropical atmosphere with bird-like tones and sound textures of high humidity. With a piano loop rising up and down plus deranged organ sounds he brings things to a pretty mysterious end. Finally, "Specimen" is no exception to Scherbe's stuttering beats. And the tropical feeling is still there thanks to a distorted vocal sample that sounds like a frog. And with the beautiful piano melody combined with a tender flute the track ends on an almost old school House vibe. Once again, Uncanny Valley's very own Carl-Johannes Schulze aka Carl Suspect takes care of the record's artwork. He took the EP's title literally and set out into the Saxon woods to visualize his idea of what a late night safari could look like.

Having both previously released on Phuture Shock Musik, garage experimentalist's Roof Light and Lostlojic return to share the honours on a split single set for release on the Bristol label.
Always one to maintain an eclectic approach in his work, Surrey resident Roof Light returns to his forward-thinking best, offering up 'Pearl' a sultry number, where jerky beats intertwine with fragmentations of female vox that saunter through swathes of synth pads, glitchy blips, and warm dubby bass.
On the flip Lostlojic continues the regular theme of passion in his music, bouncing back with 'So Much', another R&B inflected dancefloor gem, incorporating a saccharine vocal hook over a bed of lush rhodes chords. Soulful as ever, and riding a 4/4 rhythmn just beyond the familiar 140bpm region, this tune premieres a departure from the typically cold, brooding style that the Ukraine based producer is known for, to something more suited for the warm summer nights.

The last few years have seen Chicago Footwork rise to international success, and Traxman's debut album - 'The Mind of Traxman' on Planet Mu - played no small part in that. It showcased Cornelius Ferguson's brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of Footwork's house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on Traxman's abilities. Instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of Footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. Often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter. A number of the tracks here show off the high-speed micro-edited possibilities of Footwork, that end up bringing the sound closer to a faster, hands-on, mpc-punched version of micro-house, bringing out a jagged, fitful character that keeps you on your toes. Tracks like 'Time Slip' echo SND, but cut with hip hop breaks and flying snares, while 'Blow Your Whistle (Tha Out Of Here Remixx)' chops up a short vocal and whistle noise to ridiculously energetic effect. Other tracks pull on a techno edge, 'Computer Getto's galloping game of hide and seek with Kraftwerk, 'Bubbles' electronic arcade game blips, or 'Under Cover Jack's 303 groove, remind one of the house origins of this music, while 'Can Nutin Hold Me Back' has a leg in soul's history, with its detached accapella chopped into twitchy choruses. Later on '15146' cuts up barked numbers over sprightly woodwind while 'Gone and Hit that Shit' reduces words to rhythmic shapes, darting around meaning. 'The Edge of Panic' is an unexpected and incredibly aggressive detour into Footwork x Speed Metal that could be a micro-genre of its own. We catch our breath with 'I Wanna Be High' before the album ends with the gentle bass and chopped jazz drums of 'U Got Me Running (Remixx)'. The mind of Traxman dazzles again. Traxman, a.k.a. Corky Strong, real name Cornelius Ferguson, is a Chicago Footwork veteran whose discography also includes many classic Ghetto House and Juke releases going as far back as the mid '90s with music on labels like the legendary Dance Mania. He's worked as a DJ for over three decades and was a member of the Geto DJz and Ghetto Teknitianz crews alongside two other Footwork scene leaders, DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. He describes his style as "funky, soulful and a bit eccentric." Read a Simon Reynolds review of his first internationally-distributed full-length album for Planet Mu "Da Mind of Traxman" at Spin

Directly following the Dada Spines compilation, Signal Life brings you instalment #06. This is the first step into our second series of EP's, away of the strict split EP policy of releases #01-#05. The outcome, a fresh four-tracker by label head TWWTH. Twwth is the revised moniker of Finnish producer Matti Pentikäinen, earlier Teeth, known for releases on tastemaker DJ Oneman's 502 Recordings, Paris' ever-topical Sound Pellegrino, and Ramp Recordings among others. Searching for a nutshell definition for the Thousand Million EP all one seems to stumble upon is: bastard techno meets grime. This is topical grime, rooted from its original strict 140bpm mainstay, fused with huge pounding techno drums, and grooves that pay homage to early, commanding 8-bar grime constructions. In the convenient words of Wiley: Wot do you call it... Techno grime Grimy techno Urban The EP opens with Naomi XX, a track which fuses distinctive grime aesthetics with modern R'n'B vocals, and house-like drum machine hihat work with inventive broken kick and clap patterns, placing the track firmly in the now. Further showcasing Twwth's sense for rhythm, Boy You Down With It shakes a club with syncopated drum machine toms, snares and claps before combining them into a beautifully forged driving, gritty groove. The tune sounds unlike anything out there, and its full dance floor mechanics only reveal with the unique shift in groove. The EP's title track Thousand Million's crusher kicks and sparse rhythm nod towards the new grime movement, but the streetwise vocal samples give it new angles in Twwth's signature style. The chopped-up vocal stands out, as it is meticulously borrowed from a mid-90s New York slam poet. Sweet Nectar pulses with broken techno and acid thrown into the mix to wrap up the EP. The songs, already circulating from FACT mixes to blogs to BBC Radio 1 plays, are supported.

The first of the collective vinyl releases from the first of Hyperdub's 10th Anniversary compilations kicks things off with Mala's 'Expected (Level 10)', a classic, rock solid, melancholy half-step bulldozer, with rich moog top melody. The second track is 'Technical Difficulties', an unusually dark and minimal piece from DVA, all swirling bass and punched in drums at a lumbering pace. Kuedo's 'Mtzpn' is a downcast, rainy hip hop instrumental with splashy high hats and wavy chords. The EP finishes with Helix's microedited take on Kode9's 'Xingfu Lu', with the original track's droney melody looped into tight repeating snippets over rugged 140 beats.

The second of the Decadub vinyl-only releases dedicates three of its four sides to a volley of woozy and twisted footwork from most of the key members of Chicago's Teklife crew. Side One starts with DJ Rashad and Gant Man's squiggly 303 banger 'Acid Life' and moves onto Taso & Djunya's Darwinian banger 'Only The Strong Will Survive'. Side Two descends into DJ Spinn's bombastic 'All My Teklife' and then Earl, Rashad & Taye's 'Bombaklot' which takes Hyperdub full circle with a yardcore bomb like a 2014 upgrade of the label's early days. Side Three leads with DJ Earl's immaculate diva vocal cut-up of 'I'm Gonna Get You', then moves on into DJ Taye's fizzling R&B jam 'Get Em Up' and the stone cold, warped humour of 'Icemaster' by Heavee. On the fourth and final side, Tokyo-based ally Quarta330 returns to craft 'Hanabi', an epic, uptempo synthesiser jam. Young gun Champion follows with 'Power Cut', its minimal, energetic and militant kicks and bass molded with cowbell and lots of tight edits, before dropping some neat keys and a warping bassline two thirds in. Ikonika finishes things off with the solemn march of 'Tug Zone', opening slow but building in flickering high hats and gaseous cymbals into a track which could have emanated from Battlestar Galactica.

Indie.. "Sára Vondrášková, known by her stage name NEVER SOL, is a Czech singer and composer based in Prague. Writing her first songs in the age of 15 mostly for herself and studying music for 8 years at the conservatory, the important moment came around 2011, when she has been offered to play her songs constantly at one of the most vibrant Bohemian venues in Prague at Café V Lese. Focused on piano and voice she shared the stages with friends and musicians, becoming more confident about her own artistic approach and vision. Shortly after her first concerts producer Jan P. Muchow got in contact with her and the two years long composing process of her debut album UNDER QUIET began. To give her songs a frame Sára Vondrášková created the rather abstract pseudonym Never Sol. The piano has always been central in her music writing, but in the past years she was more and more gaining knowledge in using music production software. Creating sounds turned out to be another starting point to evolve her music and to get rid of the patterns and techniques taught in her classical education. Sára Vondrášková is a regular guest singer with Czech musician and Denovali artist FLOEX. Touring and performing with Floex is an essential influence and of course strong female artists like Cat Power, Fiona Apple, Jessie Ware Or Bat For Lashes keep inspiring her work. CD: digipak. Vinyl: thick gatefold covers, 180g vinyl, different vinyl colours, free download.

Underground artists to emerge over the last few years. Combining a bruk shuffle with a natural flare for techno, Presk has been carving out his own subtle niche since 2011. Each track on this release stands tall alone, showcasing Presks natural leanings, from the raw broken funk hit of 'Saluki', the warped techno of 'Mod1 & Rais' to the deft touch of 'Vigor'. This is Presk at his very best, showing whats to come of this exciting producer and marking a very fitting return to the label.
With support already from Gilles Peterson and a prime slot on Jackmaster's soon-to-become- legendary Mastermix 4, Saluki is set to be around for a while. Don't sleep on this one.
Gilles Peterson - 'Love this tune, big for me!'
Breach - 'YES YES YES all over this'
Huxley - 'Been feeling this guy's stuff for a while. This is no different. MOD1 especially is sick.' T Williams - 'So so funky, very much loving the vibe on this EP. Will definitely be supporting.' Sinden - 'Bassline on Saluki!!! Love Presk full support on this'
Dusky - 'Saluki is great, thanks'
Dubfire - 'Good stuff , thank you!'
Matt Tolfrey - 'Saluki is next level. To be fair, i can play all four of these, and will be.' Rivastarr - 'Quality all over this ep well done thx'
Peter Kruder (kruder and dorfmeister) - 'Rais is my favorite here. Will play this. Thank You!' Philip Sherburne (pitchfork/the wire) - 'Sounds really good!'

Struments Records opens 2014 presenting ''Fire to the Empire'', third record in 12'' format from this Barcelona label. Following the special dedication referred to the local talent shown by the label in its two previous releases, in this occasion the reference is signed by Clip!, relevant artist in the Spanish electronic scene that, after a versatile and prolific 2013, shows in this publication a new coordinate of their chameleonic sound. Thereby opening the door to more visceral coordinates, opaque and less intense dance that exudes less kindness and infects the club atmosphere with light and dark. The set, consisting of three original songs (Fire, Ash and Bitch), and a remix of ''Ash'' by the British artist Kommune1, discovers on side A two descriptive and powerful snapshots of translucent clubber atmosphere, winding and unfiltered. Proper of the dance hours closer to twilight in the shadows and lights mergers into sensations. While on the B side, the artists pays tribute to the most evasive and escapist concept that music can evoke, forged between the rage of techno and the subtlety of house, when instinct takes control over any convention and presents itself as a purely physical experience between the listener and the sound. Closing the total minutes of the reference, Kommune1 prints cosmic and expansive notes to ''Ash'', as well as he brightens the original version. ''Fire'', the central tune that starts and gives name to this third reference of Struments Records responds to six minutes that shapes a direct and powerful presentation letter. In which you can acknowledge progressive melodic phases and raw vocals that serve as a growing force of initial contact. ''Ash'' continues the incursion between hard and chiaroscuro dynamic, printing analog rhythm coordinations. ''Bitch'' represents the exact balance and highlight of ''Fire Your Empire'' EP, sobriety in enviromental nuances, vocal flare and power high-flying shape a depth completely orientated to the dance floor that condenses much intention in a speech coherently aligned with the sound. Kommune1 sets ''Ash'' with an eye towards fantasy and space, using resources in the original maximalist melodies and rhythmic accelerating phases provide the remix to get faster.
DJ Support:

The EP is so well balanced. Loving that analog feeling. 'Fire' makes me
dream, I get in trance with the bass and those pads on 'Ash' and I want
to listen to 'Bitch' really loud in the Berghain. Much support.

"Excellent and fresh EP!! All tracks are powerful and effective, can't
wait to play them. My favorite is "Bitch" but Kommune1 also did a good
alternative mix to "Ash". Keep them coming Struments!

Circling Sydney as the most prodigious producers in their adopted home, Tuff Sherm (Perth-born Eugene Hector / Dro Carey) and Cassius Select (Canada's Lavurn Lee / Guerre) guise-up for a split 12 that follows Dro's seven-date debut European tour, and Cassius' breakout ONE EP on Gardland's Hunter Gatherer imprint. Returning home after a string of releases via Merok, RAMP, Opal Tapes and The Trilogy Tapes, Tuff Sherm shifts the counter-balanced brilliance of Dro Carey with 'Beast Numeral' - a six-minute succession of classic house jaunts. Revealing a more positively playful side on 'Topaz Looper', Sherm continues to surprise in the footsteps of fans such as Ben UFO, Mark Pritchard and L.I.E.S founder Ron Morelli. Clocking stages with Australian heavyweights Jagwar Ma and HTRK whilst stringing supports for Four Tet and Jamie xx alike, Cassius Select finally goes to print with two cold-cut workouts flipped on an affinity for city-side recesses. Proving Australia's most unkempt secret since his early days under the bedroom R 'n' B alias Guerre, 'Bruv' now sees Lee splice and scrape classic taunts into a knockabout elegy to the UK's MC heyday. Skittered up until the blown kick and bass serve of 'Rete Avec Ou', Cassius locks out on a pummelling ode to distance and disconnection, ringing in the end for a true-to-form take on mother-country confusion with enthralling results. LuckyMe are very proud to present the 'Rosario EP from S-Type.
S-Types rise started in Spring 2012. Emerging, gleaming and show-stopping from Rustie's seminal BBC Essential mix was a track called 'Billboard' from a new producer that was part of the LuckyMe family as far back as his teenage years.
The track had Soundcloud and blog commentators looking around for the hugest most galactic superlatives for this 'superhero' music. As skyscraping as the biggest US hip hop instrumentals but born of the ferment of Glasgow's world-WOWing club world, it made it into end of year 'Best Of' polls as well as the DJ sets of Rustie, TNGHT,and Benji B.
S-Type AKA 27 YO Scot Bobby Perman started getting recognised down the shops Glasgow. He was catapulted onto a 30 + date US tour and found himself in the studio with kindred spirits AraabMuzik and Baauer. There were rumours of national electronic goods adverts in South Korea and S-Type tracks in the running for inclusion on Drakes Nothing Was The Same album. On 19th Sept 2013, the buzz started all over again as LuckyMe family member Éclair Fifi dropped a new S-Type tune 'Rosario' on her BBC Radio 1 In New DJs We Trust show. Now LuckyMe can announce the wait is over. LM017 AKA S-Type's 'Rosario' EP is coming out on 16/6/2014.
'Rosario' sets the scene with a 2 min intro called 'Outside (Inside)', featuring Rustie and YC The Cynic, a rapper from Hunts Pont, The Bronx that XXL called 'one of the most promising artists in recent years', the complex wordplay sounding perfect over Bobby's wide screen arrangement. 'Franco' is a fierce club banger with plenty of his signature chord work. 'Lost Girls' stunts and fizzes in the way only an S-Type track can.
For the outro 'Inside (Outro)', Bobby's sweeping instrumental sets the scene for Long Island MC (and one time Flipmode Squad member) Roc Marciano, who sharply describes the beat as 'historic'. S-Type addicts, he's back.
Early DJ support from HudMo, Kode 9, Baauer, Joker, RL Grime and Jackmaster.
Video premiere on Channel 4 in Late May.

Save's 'Monsters And Fairies' is an abandoned hotel room located somewhere between England and Spain. It's real for some while for others it's just a fantasy. Who knows
Its in this exact same place that the american singer/vocalist Craig Louis Higgins Jr. (Paranoid London/Mutado Pintado/Black Daniel), the australian singer/composer Saskia Sansom and the fench electronic music composer Marc Nguyen Tan (Colder) got together to record these songs during the year 2012. However some listeners will find interesting to know, that until today, the three of them have never actually met in person.
Four tracks from this experience are available now on limited 10' vinyl with original artwork by London artist Sara Pope.

Hot on the heels of his successful autumnal tour of Europe, the antipodean beatsmith and low-riding soul-brother, Inkswel, arrives on the eighth 12 from Burek Records. Considering Inkswel's been working with people like Merwyn from Virgo Four, Gifted & Blessed and Linkwood for the third release on his own Hot Shot Sounds imprint, we weren't surprised when he told us about the recent collaboration he'd had with Dave Aju. Naturally we were keen to get this out into the world, complementing it with great remixes and additional tracks from Inkswel. The A-side comprises three funkadelicious, shape-throwing, pop-locking slices featuring the talents of San Fran's Dave Aju, Melbourne's Cazeaux O.S.L.O, Christchurch's Isaac Aesili and Adelaide's Charli James. They wear their shared love for hiphop on their sleeves, replicating old school sampling techniques and twinning them with a feel for modernity. The open kicks and sax thrills that begin 'No More Suckas' cement syrupy pads and swirling keys as Dave Aju rhymes about that classic conundrum, being given the chance for a night of intimate relations. Rotascoping blips and pads combined with fat bass work underpin the conscious spoken word poetry of 'Mind Yours', and 'Saturated' closes the side with razor-sharp claps, wonky chords and 808 cowbells laying the foundation for vocal call and responses. In classic turntablist style the bonus beat track 'Oishi Stylus' is also included, evoking the Pacific Rim's interconnectivity with its Nipponese flavours cut over solid beats. This ain't hip-house, it's hiphop-house.

Cold Mission is the debut album from east London-based producer Logos: it features fellow producers Mumdance, Dusk + Blackdown and Rabit. That Logos is member of two emerging underground collectives - new school grime specialists Boxed and the Keysound Recordings' 130bpm family - it gives you a rough sense of his whereabouts. At the first flickers of the album intro Ex101, you begin to sense the scope and scale of Logos' 'Mission.' His modus operandi is twin strike of connection and disconnection: he lurks in the spaces between places, both literally - down badly lit Eastend back streets - and figuratively, swerving between established musical nodes with the mission of finding new ones. It's suspended in the tension between then, now and what's to come. In simpler terms: Logos is a junglist but this is not a jungle album. He's a grime head but this is not a grime long player. This is an excursion in the dissolutions of forms and edges; of the elongation of patterns into repetitive plateaus of intensity. The album bristles with tension: for the 'Cold...' component it is like he dissolved the intros of a thousand darkside jungle 12's and dripped them into his analog hardware. The album features Keysound Recordings label bosses Dusk + Blackdown on the UKG exoskeleton 'Alien Shapes,' while eski excursionist Rabit collaborates on 'Swarming.' In 2013 Logos has formed a fruitful production partnership with Mumdance and their hyper-intense 'Wut It Do' features on the album, following their anthemic but paradoxical Keysound releases 'In Reverse' and 'In Reverse PIV'. Logos's 2012 'Kowloon EP' was recently lauded by Fact Magazine as 'year zero' and 'the catalyst' for a talented new wave of grime-inspired producers. Alongside artists like Beneath, Wen, Visionist, E.m.m.a., Moleskin and Etch, Logos forms part of a new wave sonically exploring the 130bpm space and finding life and creativity again in edgy 'London retro futuristic music.

James Leyland Kirby returns with an uncompromising, poetic and unexpected 4th and final instalment of his long-dormant 'Intrigue & Stuff' series despatched from his new base in Krakow for his own History Always Favours The Winners label. Since we last heard from the provocateur he's issued brilliant albums as The Caretaker and The Stranger, a cracking 12' for his formative heroes R&S/Apollo, and marked his 40th Birthday last week with a 40-track album of Piano pieces...yet we can't help but feel that he's saved some of his most deliriously spannered and heartbreakingly personal intimations for this new LP.

Kyle Hall back on Hyperdub for our 10th Anniversary - Yes please. In fact this is more or less a long delayed EP from the vaults, recorded around the same time as his 2010 'Kaychunk' EP ... which just goes to show how ahead of the curve the young Detroit producer is. Starting with 'Girl U So Strong', the track riffs on a distorted arpeggiating bassline, seasick organ and a dubbed out voice, and a flicking metronomic note, starting slowly before shuffling drums give the track some rhythmic focus. Soon a warm melody builds over some happy arpeggios, and the whole track feels like a product of brilliant spontaneous energy. 'Take Me Away' works an 8 bit bassline, bleeps and throbs into an off beat shuffle over a pulsing bass drum, loose and happy, dosed with sunshine and space.

Since 2012 the Sheffield-based producer has carved a steadfast reputation with an ascetic production technique augmenting the dread and atmosphere of early DMZ dubs with the velocity
of classic Grime and Bleep Techno, and the haughty rudeness of early New York House, minting a distinct new sound which sent shockwaves thru the scene thanks to his now-legendary showcase mix for Keysound.
Beneath's PAN 12' consolidates up-to-the-minute electronics and rooted dancefloor dynamics with incisive style and pattern. All four tracks are skeletal but big boned rollers' riddims and masterful exercises in dancefloor pressure. 'Bored 2' is rent with cattle-prod Grime stabs and a show-stealing, radioactive bass roil, whereas
the hunched, grimy rolige of 'Occupy' is all about his shifty, idiosyncratic syncopation. 'One Blings' cools out on buoyant subs with glass-cut electronic motifs standing miles out from his scene, and 'Stress 1' trips out with restless drums and lucid electronics tessellating dipping rhythms with skin-prickling harmonic resonance. It adds up to the freshest mutation of accelerated UK dub/SoundSystem culture, stoking an aesthetic extant since the first rumblings of Saxon Studio International and Coxsone in the late '70s/early '80s, thru the forward leanings of the contemporary UK sound in 2014, mapping the software timbres and possibilities of new technology to the timeless mantra of rudeboy dub
proper, yielding maximum affect from optimised elements.

Inspired by the rhythmic, clattering sounds of the industrial machines that soundtrack his day, Quirke produces a unique blend of acoustic and electronic music. From the frenetic, driving rhythm of 'Break a Mirrored Leg' to the modern classical piano on 'Acid Beth' Josh's sonic world is distinct and immersive; his bold sound felt best represented by one word, his surname: Quirke.

Jumping Back Slash returns with a brand new EP for Pollinate. With 'Namhlanje' JBS has shifted gear to his fast paced 'Khawulezayo' style. Literally translated as 'Fast' it's defined by military precise percussion that fires over a 150-160bpm range. The EP is a relatively deep affair that builds and builds with bursts of energy. In the spaces between snares & synth squelch, there's a cast of vocalists bringing the mic to life - Spoek Mathambo, Okmalumkoolkat & Qubekani The Ndola all feature as well as vocal edits from lost studio sessions... It rides similar to the Juke styles of Chicago but this is a distinctly South African record and perhaps one of the most accomplished releases to come out of the country for some time. And rightfully so: despite 'Namhlanje' meaning 'Today' it took almost a year to surface. To connect the dots we invited Chrissy Murderbot to remix 'Night Time Business'. With Spoek Mathambo at the vocal helm and Chrissy's irresistible urge to rave forging a hot Jungle/Juke mash up, it's a smooth & wildly percussive banger. Free with the record, the remix is a digital exclusive. JBS once again proves that patience is a virtue in the recording process and puts out one of his finest records to date - This is a record not to sleep on

The original soundtrack of an unreleased movie... became the soundtrack of a comic book.
14 tracks produced by Krazy Baldhead, Mr Flash, Busy P, Feadz and the mysterious 40106 (aka Mickey Moonlight).
Influenced by John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos and Vladimir Cosma, the Ed Banger records artists imagined the perfect soundtrack of a "à la Ed Wood" movie.
Nostalgia and sound anticipation, Vandroid should be listen reading a comic or the head in the skys.
A concept album which allows the artists of the label the least exposed to prove their talent.

It's been a while since King Thing last surfaced, and now he does so with a fresh EP of hybrid beats for Millions Of Moments UK, the spin-off label of more bass orientated business. These particular tracks twitch with intricacy as they occupy a space somewhere near electro, not least on lead track "Never Say Never". With a snappy square wave bass line and a killer stop-start groove, well-placed chords and snippet samples inject a little soul into the machinations as the track develops. "Inside Of Me" opts for a more old-school flavoured stab as its central hook, relegating the beat to the bottom of the pecking order in favour of a sizable chord and another plethora of curious found sounds. "Unity" rounds things off with a catchy workout that revolves around a woodblock melody and a cyclical patter of technoid beats.

In Summer 2013, Butterz took residence at Red Bull Studios and this collaboration is one of many tracks built over that period. Version One was built for the offshoot party the label have been running quietly for the past year: Jamz, Version Two for the big nights they now hold in Fabric, and Version Three is designed to chill too. Following their individual forays into the Garage area over the past 12 months - Flava D's Hold On broke her as an artist last year getting regular spins from Garage legend DJ EZ. Royal-T's 'I Know You Want Me' on Rinse was a massive hit seeing him continue his regular DJ travels across the UK & Europe. Following Swindle & Joker's collaboration record Let It Be Known this marks a second creative link up this year on Butterz that will probably never be repeated. DJ Clent - the low end legend - has been known for his music since the days of Dance Mania, releasing tracks such as 'Bounce' and 'Back Up Off Me' which are juke classics. He also released the grimy call to arms footwork track '3rd Wurle', as well as tracks on both Bangs & Works Compilations. 'Hyper Feet' starts off the EP with a high-speed footwork homage to Mike Dunn's classic 'Magic Feet', replicating the hits and using 303 acid to make a sparse but precision-tooled piece of footwork. Next up, 'Baby Yeah' works a vocal and sax sample into shimmering cut-ups and high-speed rhythmic shapes. On side B 'Clent's Dog Catcher' is a half-speed chop up of the intro to George Clinton's famous 'Atomic Dog', sliced and diced into itchy, slippery shapes. 'Don't Go Down' pits an MPC drum workout of the word "down" against a looped "don't go" sample and a mournful piano line, while 'Don't Leave Me (Baby)' contrasts soul samples with a clipped vocal of of 'Baby C'mon' before the track flips into cascading synths.
