Do you ever listen to a record and worry about its creator's sanity Granted, it rarely happens, but in the case of Innercity-Antwerp producer Hans Dens-it's a legitimate concern. Thankfully, Dens' seeming madness manifests itself in music so uncompromising and off the charts of classification, it convinces you that any kind of sonic innovation at this late date demands a bit of mental instability. By way of explanation, Dens says, 'People forget that there is only magic in this world, mostly black, nothing more.' In other news: You will never confuse this Innercity with Kevin Saunderson's Inner City. ABABABABABABAS (Blue Lion Child) makes Dens' rather strange first album on Further, 2012's A Lion's Baptism, seem like radio-friendly fodder by comparison. The producer admits, 'This release is surely one of my harsher, bleak ones... I tried to keep it pure, and again bleak. Also put the keyboards in the shelf for this one; it's all guitar and violin through an array of effects...' 'BAAL'S (KITTEN TRUMPETEER CHOIR)' fades in with what sounds like waves of harsh, scalding feedback-let's call it 'the black metal of ambient.' Dens conjures pitiless, post-apocalyptic atmospheres, but imbues them with a residual glow of dignity. The tidal 'MASKS AND MOLD MATTER' could be a noir soundtrack that's too weird and nightmarish even for David Lynch. Its main sound source sounds like the irradiated molecules of a psych-rock guitar riff by Chrome's Helios Creed. Beunruhigend flirrende Flächen sorgen für das nötige Quantum Ernst am Rande der dunklen Seite der Schönheit. Nicht weniger zwingend ist auch sein Remix von CUPID'S HEAD, dem Titelstück des aktuellen THE FIELD Albums. You may well have heard these pieces lodged in one of many, lauded mixes by the label's co-creator, Nina, diffused amidst myriad industrial obscurities and clankenheit atmospheres. And it's easy to hear why she and Good News would pick this up for their first release. Mass docks first like something from Mika Vainio's Kilo, connoting an imposing sense of scale thru
super-wide reverbs, distant sonar signals and bone-powdering rhythmic noise before the sludgy concrète dub of Concubine comes ashore to perform its cranky functions.
Flipside, they neatly divert that vibe with Minerva, coursing bittersweet pads and sloshing undercurrent buoyed by churning subs, whilst Quadrant seems to dissolve the remains in a bath of
hydrochloric DSP, leaving only cadaverous remains.Lovers of Blackest Ever Black, Zhark, or Weevil Neighbourhood aesthetics will be in their element here.

Maylee Todd is best known for her multi-disciplinary collaborations - whether with dancers, comedians, filmmakers, or her bandmates. After her 2013 breakout album Escapology, which featured contributions from dozens of musicians, Maylee stepped back into the studio alone, producing her own beats and uncovering new sonic territory.
Maylee is always experimenting with new possibilities in her art, incorporating her electronic experiments with her natural pop sensibilities. This 7" release is tasty morsel of what's to come in the new year.

Drone-based experiments (notably with Tony Conrad, extremely present on the album, and John Cale), and purely electronic compositions - a path (almost) nobody knew MacLise had explored. Miraculously salvaged by Gerald Malanga, these archives provided a new perspective on the artist's whole body of work and expanded considerably his artistic palette. And so we are now able to draw a whole record's worth from MacLise's early electronic music. Angus MacLise, born, March 4,1938 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was a percussionist composer, poet, and calligrapher. He was a member of La Monte Young's Theater of Eternal Music, with John Cale, Tony Conrad, Marian Zazeela and sometimes Terry Riley. He contributed to the early Fluxus newspaper V Tre, edited by George
Brecht and George Maciunas, and was also an early member of The Velvet Underground, having been brought into the group by flatmate John Cale when they were living at 56 Ludlow Street in Manhattan. MacLise played bongos and hand drums during 1965 with the first incarnation of the Velvet Underground. Although the band regularly extemporised soundtracks to underground films during this era (The Invasion of Thunderbolt Pagoda by Ira Cohen, Chumlum by Ron RiceŠ), MacLise never officially recorded with them. Later in the 1960s, Angus and his wife Hetty traveled around between Vancouver, Paris, Greece and India, finally settling in Nepal. They also
had a son, Ossian Kennard MacLise, who was recognized by Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, the 16th Karmapa, as a reincarnation of a Tibetan saint, or tulku, and at age four became a Buddhist monk. MacLise died of hypoglycemia and pulmonary tuberculosis in Kathmandu
in 1979, aged 41. He recorded a vast amount of music that went largely unreleased until 1999. These recordings, produced between the mid-'60s and the late-'70s, consist of tribal trance workouts, spoken word, poetry, drones and electronics, as well as many collaborations with his wife Hetty. In 2008, Hetty MacLise bequeathed a collection of her husband's tapes to the Yale Collection of
American Literature.

Classic/ Experimental.. " Hydras Dream is a special collaboration between the Swedish musicians ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF and MATTI BYE (winner of the Guldbaggen 2014 price for scoring the film drama ""Faro"" and composer of the film score for ""The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared""). The concept behind this project is to interpret stories, movies and myths into musical landscapes. For their debut album ""The Little Match Girl"", von Hausswolff and Bye construed the beautiful and melancholic story by H.C. Andersen of the same title. Asked about the reason for this particular choice, the two musicians state: ""It was her tragic faith in the winter's cold that inspired us. She is freezing to death with no money and no comfort, she is all alone, dreaming of a warmer place. When death strikes her she is filled with magical illusions and dreams. Oddly enough, hypothermia and death are the only two comfort zones we experience in this story. Sad but beautiful." The music of Hydras Dream is mostly made through improvisation and by using repetitious patterns and melodies. Indeed, the two musicians state ""We want to use intuition and spontaneity as two key elements in the compositions, and therefore we don't pre-record anything. We just play whatever feels good and fits the theme and press rec."" Thus it is no surprise that ""The Little Match Girl"" was written and recorded during only three days in Matti Bye's studio. Exploring the entire spectrum of their instruments, von Hausswolff and Bye ingeniously combined their virtuosity in order to craft an eclectic and delicate album, located somewhere inbetween neo-classical experimentalism and avantgarde dream-pop. One can virtually image how the notes of this debut faintly resound behind the candle-lit windows which separate the little match girl from the life-saving warmth, how their echoes join her in her inevitable fate ... Darkjazz/ Experimental/ Electro. This split consitutes an exciting collaboration of these two French experimental/avant-garde/dark jazz acts. In mutual respect and appreciation, both DALE COOPER QUARTET and WITXES selected a track of their split companion and created a fundamental and independent rework of around 20 minutes length. Based upon parts of Witxes' ""The Apparel"" -- from the last album ""A Fabric of Beliefs"" -- and afternoon summer recording sessions, the DALE COOPER QUARTET's ""Le Strategie Saint-Frusquin"" contains the classic sounds of the Quartet: ambient soundscapes, lazy jazzy rhythms, drone and distorsion guitar and a deep saxophone breath. Being mostly instrumental, the deep tone of Ronan Mac Erlaine's voice comes to ease the stormy start of the music piece. A grainy and blissful track that resembles music coming through of a 50s radio speaker, letting dark jazz flooding the room. ""Pisces Analogue"" is a new WITXES piece based on ""Nourrain Quinquet"", a track from ""Quatorze pieces de menaces"" by Dale Cooper Quartet & the Dictaphones. In five movements, the track explores the interstices and cracks of the dark, minimalist, lurking, cycle-evolving original piece. It offers to take a look at some of its nooks, focus on a few of its endless micro-universes and jump from one to another in a flash. Just like swimming in a puzzling dream. If there is anything in common with previous Witxes output, it is a strong sense of motion as well as narration to be seized by the listener. Though this piece uses heavily processed instruments takes from ""Nourrain Quinquet"" as well as a few typical Witxes field recordings, it is Witxes most synthetic work to date. It was written, recorded and mixed in 3 weeks during summer of 2014 in Lyon and co-produced by Michael Mysak. Making use of on an array of instruments, field recordings, found sounds and vocal treatments, it's a largely analogue variant of hi-tech production styles arcing from the dissonant to the sublime. The first two tracks recorded during these early sessions bookend the release, the opener 'Time Away' featuring Euphonium played by Kim Holly Thorpe and last track 'Missing' a contribution by Stott's occasional vocal collaborator Alison Skidmore who also appeared on 2012's 'Luxury Problems'.. Between these two points 'Faith In Strangers' heads off from the sparse and infected 'Violence' to the broken, downcast pop of 'On Oath' and the motorik, driving melancholy of 'Science & Industry' - three vocal tracks built around that angular production style that imbues proceedings with both a pioneering spirit and a resonating sense of familiarity. Things take a sharp turn with 'No Surrender'- a sparkling analogue jam making way for a tough, smudged rhythmic assault, while 'How It Was' refracts sweaty Warehouse signatures and 'Damage' finds the sweet spot between RZA's classic 'Ghost Dog' and Terror Danjah at his most brutal. 'Faith in Strangers' is next and offers perhaps the most beautiful and open track here, its vocal hook and chiming melody bound to the rest of the album via the almost inaudible hum of Stott's mixing desk. It provides a haze of warmth and nostalgia that ties the nine loose joints that make up the LP into the most memorable and oddly cohesive of Stott's career to date, built and rendered in the spirit of those rare albums that straddle innovation and tradition through darkness and light.

is an immersion into the sound environments of a tropical rain forest in the Caribbean lowlands of Costa Rica. An astonishing natural sonic web created by a multitude of sounds from rain, waterfalls, insects, frogs, birds, mammals and even plants, through a day cycle during the rainy season. A powerful acousmatic broad-band sound environment of thrilling complexity. And above all, a tour de force of profound listening. Original recordings done at La Selva Biological Station during the rainy seasons of 1995 and 1996. La Selva was premiered in an acousmatic performance at Teatro Fanal of the Fanal Contemporary Art Center in San José, Costa Rica, on August 1997.

Revered by the music press and respected by his peers for his work as sound designer at the Pompidou Centre, Pierre Lefeuvre - the Parisian producer better know as Saycet - doesn't seem to have quenched his thirst for bright, dreamy, cleverly constructed melodies. Indeed, the extended version of Mirage is positive proof of his continued curiosity and creativity. Firstly, because it oscillates between abstract and orchestrated, animated tracks such as 'Météores' and 'Half Awake', one of the EP's high points recorded with Yan Wagner and Phoene Somsavath, now sporting its own music video. A former globetrotting DJ, Harris has shelved that lifestyle and aesthetic for a more stable family life in the Seattle area and a more cerebral approach in the studio. With this collection of exploratory compositions, she decided to experiment with an array of synthesizers, mainly the Waldorf Q. Working on the eight tracks here in her home setup, Harris would 'layer as much as I could or sometimes there was no layering at all. I tried to let the machines talk. I was trying to find my own voice. It was sad and melancholy because I stopped DJing and decided to try something new in my career.' This change had financial and creative risks, but Harris has transitioned boldly into this more adventurous musical mode.

Of course, there's a story behind every release, and this Ligovskoi debut on DEMENT3D goes back to one of their first live performances in Paris, back in 2011, organized by our "cousin" label Silicate : a group of artists - including DSCRD - were invited to recompose an ambient soundtrack on the movie Outland by Peter Hyams. Ligovskoi 's live performance was absolute magic, and their intense and powerful sound signature - with moving infra-thin melodies, ethereal noises, and deep bass foundations - was already sounding perfect. Ligovskoi, aka Nikolai Azonov and Valerio Selig, started as a drone / ambient / experimental project in 2010. Their previous musical activities had in fact crossed our paths many times before, either at concerts where Nikolai was performing behind the synths, or projects Valerio was presenting at Beaux-Arts de Cergy, the art school where a couple of seminal techno parties happened, orchestrated by one of Polar Inertia's members... Welcoming the young duo in our label's shelf had become obvious : their tracks have very often found their way in our DJ sets, their live performances were featured in our label nights, and we even organized some more small private experimental concerts to introduce their music to our public. We felt Ligovskoi was gradually becoming more and more inspirational among a range of local and international artists, and it seemed relevant to have their rich and stirring music remixed by artists from label affiliates and other artists that we love. So, we asked In Aeternam Vale, French synth / punk / electronic pioneer : after being blown away by some of the re-issues on Minimal Wave, and meeting him in person early 2013 at one of his rare Parisian live appearances, he delivered a hybrid reinterpretation of the track G.Y. Soon after, we asked Abdulla Rashim - who had already delivered an amazing reinterpretation of Polar Inertia's Black Sun - to deliver some of his static magic on Labiate, resulting in a beautiful, horizontal and immersive piece. Last but not least, on D-side of this double-EP release, both label's co-founders, Francois X and Heartbeat each teamed up with their Parisian mates : Antigone and Voiski to execute techno versions of Ligovskoi 's wizardry. Antigone & Francois X' s remix of the EP's title track : Dilip is a mental and driving groove that merges perfectly both of their signatures, while Voiski & Heartbeat deliver a slow-tempo and powerful live take on Goha - illustrating one of the many aspects of their live project together : HBTVSK. This release is very diverse, conveys strong emotions and states some radical aesthetics, we hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do.

London-via-Humberside dream-pop perfectionists Night Flowers announce their return with shimmering new single 'Sleep'.

Bright and airy, 'Sleep' is the sound of a band ready to embrace their glowing future, as they welcome new vocalist Sophia Pettit to the fold. The track shines with Night Flowers irresistible cocktail of transatlantic, intertwining male/female vocals, backed by wistful but powerful guitars and nineties shoegaze atmospherics.

'Sleep' is released via Dirty Bingo Records, on limited white 7' vinyl and digitally.

Following on from 2014's Terrestre' 12', Lawrence Le Doux returns to Belgium's Vlek label with the 'Pollution' EP, 4 tracks of playful, hauntologically minded Electronica and Techno. Kicking off with the mesmerising loops of 'Floor', Le Doux works his machines to create an analogue gyre that ensnares the unguarded listener and neatly segues into 'Liquide' where a sublime mist of gentle hiss settles over his unworldly, almost naive, sounding synths and metronomic beat.
On the B-side the EP's title track deploys a meandering melody to simple yet devastating effect before the synths give way to scattergun metallic percussion, finally the EP closes with the organic bass-led 'Story', a beatless coda that exemplifies the EP's sense of nostalgia for the future.

Real name Dan Griober, Dan HabarNam has been active since the '90s, doing production for Romanian pop artists while also working on his own projects. His solo catalog is pretty slim, with just a few appearances on drum & bass labels like Santorin and Subtle Audio, but From the Known is clearly the work of an experienced artist: though loosely anchored in techno, ambient and bass music, it's stylistically open-ended, and produced with an audiophile's attention to detail. According to the label, Groiber's meticulousness extended to the mastering process as well (the CD, for instance, was recorded direct from the vinyl to achieve that special analog feel)

Peau froide, lèger soleil, is the result of a three year recording process, initiated by Mika Vainio and Frank Vigroux after a series of shared live experiences. Sprawling after a show in Paris in 2012, their collaboration is an exercise in sensitive intensity, drifting the whole space between minimalist meditations and maximalist kinetics. Vainio's signature brutalist production resonates all throughout the record, constructing a psychic scenario for Vigroux's researches in spatial abstraction and tonal radicalism.Densely built though free-from structural limitation, this album is an intense 9track motion, serving as the third installment in Cosmo Rhythmatic's catalog and acting as new chapter in the label's construction an uncompromising sonic identity.

It is certainly not a small feat to have an ambient compilation series running for over a decade and keep it fresh and interesting - especially when the core aesthetic idea is as well-defined as POP AMBIENT's. However, this didn't keep last year's instalment (KOMPAKT 315 CD 120) from finding a compelling balance between veteran contributors like JENS-UWE BEYER or LEANDRO FRESCO and new, idiosyncratic voices like MAX WÜRDEN or THORE PFEIFFER. They all return for POP AMBIENT 2016, joining a captivating cast that also includes heavy-weight soundsmiths, experimental composers and ambient confidants like THE ORB, ANTON KUBIKOV of SCSI-9 fame, MIKKEL METAL, GREGOR SCHWELLENBACH or STEPHAN MATHIEU.

Starting off with a surprise guest, POP AMBIENT 2016 presents electroacoustic composer and installation artist STEPHAN MATHIEU, whose highly textured opening drone APRIL IM OKTOBER bears all the hallmarks of a pop ambient classic, stealthily weaving in layers of sound and moving fluidly between territories. The man clearly knows what he's doing - after all, he has worked with luminaries like Taylor Dupree, Ekkehard Ehlers, Janek Schaefer or Sylvain Chauveau (see also Pop Ambient 2009). Meanwhile, THE ORB show off the full extent of their experience in the field and have their own little ambient collage opera going on in ALPINE DAWN - a slight detour from their beat-laden full-length MOONBUILDING 2703 AD (KOMPAKT 330 CD 124), but just on that same level of masterful sonic dexterity.

Moving forward, SCSI-9's ANTON KUBIKOV builds momentum with a sweet melody slowly evolving to the atmospheric backdrop of a light synth rain, while MAX WÜRDEN imagines a dreamy, yet twisted underwater world with lots of space to get lost in. He later returns for a collaboration with THORE PFEIFFER (not on vinyl), the other newcomer hero from Pop Ambient 2015, and the result is a fascinating amalgamation of both producer's distinct sonic sensibilities - the grittier, drone-based approach from Würden and Pfeiffer's penchant for roaming samples and skewed loops. Another dedicated collab comes from SICKER MAN & GREGOR SCHWELLENBACH who team up for string-infused, cinematic epic TURNS.

Longstanding Kompakt ally MIKKEL METAL presents the surging TITAN, followed by LEANDRO FRESCO's magistral rework of DAVE DK's VEIRA from his VAL MAIRA album (KOMPAKT 326 CD 121). A very special bonus adventure can be found in THORE PFEIFFER's "megamix" of WOLFGANG VOIGT's RÜCKVERZAUBERUNG (not on vinyl) - an entire concept series succesfully reimagined as one sweeping cut. JENS-UWE BEYER continues his expeditions into hypnotic, semi-acoustic soundscapes on THE BREMEN, transitioning into the windy mountaintops of LEANDRO FRESCO's mysterious, multi-layered CONFIGURACION DE ATAQUE (not on vinyl). THORE PFEIFFER has the honour to conclude POP AMBIENT 2016 with the appropriately titled IDYLL, a soothing, swirling synth study giving the listener ample opportunity to return to mundane reality at his own pace.

Through dense layers of noise, brittle beats, found sounds and a general haze, Francis Harris returns to his own Scissor and Thread imprint, with the aid of frequent collaborator, and longtime friend, guitarist Gabe Hedrick, under the guise Aris Kindt. Following Harris' 2014 sophomore solo album, Minutes of Sleep,' (named Electronic Album of the Year by Mojo Magazine,) the duo's quintessential album debut, Floods,' takes as its focus, the late author W.G. Sebald's profound interpretation of Rembrandt's 1632 master work, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp. Floods' is a sonic journey into the heart of the body, a bold rejuvenation of Adriaan Adriaanszoon (Aris Kindt), once a mere cadaver on a cold metal slab, now a living breathing human at the heart of a creative shift in vantage point from object to active subject. Much in the same way Rembrandt intended with the painting itself, Floods' attempts to subvert the listeners memory of a moment. Written within a span of over a year using an 808, a modular eurorack and two guitars, Floods' was mixed at Keyclub Recording Company in late August with Engineer Bill Skibbe. The album charts new territory for both Harris and Hedrick, melding a long history with electronic music and youthful love for indie noise, weaving in and out of near silence and sheering walls of sound with a gentle and constant heartbeat at its core. The dream-like murk of album opener Now Grey' sets the tone with thick pads, distant, ghostly guitar work and fragmented drums. On the title track, dubby chords set the tone, as subdued toms amble forward, with a crackling of fire nearby, as a dense sounds echo and swirl around into a climactic frenzy. Blue Sky Shoes' hypnotizes with its submerged strings and subaquatic patterning, as synths rain down like streaks breaking the surface.

Wa Wu We is the artist alias and vinyl only label from Sebastian Mullaert (aka Minilogue). This is the second chapter, crafted in the Swedish woods. The rst 6 episodes of the Wa Wu We label will form a collection of records, united by their signicant and unique cover art and the way they've been recorded; this being the focus on improvising expression, resting in meditation and the nature surrounding Sebastian's studio. All 6 of these episodes will be released as vinyl only and will be limited to 500 copies each.

With - To limn the welkin' Boxer Recordings presents an atmospherical and melodic piece of Techhouse music that shows a propensity to melancholia.
This is most touching Dance music that is still serving the slaves of functionality with a tight bassdrum and easy grooves.
Beside two dancefloor tracks you find two intense and deep Ambient tracks that simply blew you away.
Nhar aka Bernard Siefert who is known for his work on Mobilee, Factor City, Plak, Correspondent and many other labels did something really spezial here and we are very glad to have him on Boxer Recordings.

Following his recent trilogy albums; The Great Depression, We Got Lost and Wisdom Of Life, Doctor L (aka Liam Farrell) teams up again with Comet for a special limited vinyl edition of the best tracks from this trilogy: Immigrant For Ever.

Sound activist for twenty-five years, Doctor L go through the musical galaxies as an incandescent comet, still fusioning from the 80's Punk Rock, to Hip-Hop music, and from the start of Electronica, to the rebirth of the international Afrobeat.

In years 2000, already on the label Comet Records, he was able to bring Lagos´ afrobeat towards the third millennium with the album Black Voices from Tony Allen, and then even sent him to the moon, with the special opus Psyco On Da Bus.

More recently Liam Farrell produced the successful debut album of the Congolese band Mbongwana Star described by Rolling Stones USA as 'heady and high-energy Afrofuturist collaboration'.

With its eighth release, Leipzig-based Holger records introduces yet another new artist: Vai has been active in the scene for a few years already, with various production teams and aliases. His new project is heading for a dierent path though: "Son of Idaia" is his most intimate work to date, a highly personal record. The elements in use are almost fragile, winding around each other and hard to grasp. So is the music: In between Ambient, Electronica and ghostly Techno it seems removed from its club origins and yet still reverberating these roots. Cultured Dutch label Shipwrec is to team up with Frustrated Funk to release "North Bend", a new album by 214 aka Chris Roman. The 2x12" album lands on Shipwrec in late June, after an EP on Frustrated Funk earlier in the month, and is an absorbing nine track affair. Chris Roman hails from Seattle in the US and releases under this name on labels like Frustrated Funk, Harbour City Sorrow and Touchin' Bass. He also released as J. Alvarez on the labels Hypercolour and La Beaute Du Negatif and is a prolific producer with an abstract sounds that touches on electro, techno and plenty in between. The album itself features atmospheric techno ambient with scattered beats, lush electro that is filled with true electronic soul and cosmic soundscapes that come from another world. The art that comes with the LP is drawn from the artist's local area, where he takes great inspiration and influence, as he does from his Frustrated Funk label peers ERP, Versalife and Plant43 to just name a few. Together with these artists, this album is furthering Roman's own signature sound as well as a new and subtly evolved brand of electro that builds on a rich history of electronica. Kenneth Roman features on one excellent track, which whips and snaps with a real sense of futurism. Elsewhere, "North Bend" sounds slick, emotive and is produced with a crisp excellence, so this album is another fine statement that reminds us just why Roman, the Frustrated Funk and Shipwrec families, are such puristic minds that push music from the heart.

Enduring ambient and soundtrack specialist John Beltran has finished another full length album for Delsin Records. Entitled Espais, it lands in summer 2015 and features 17 beautiful tracks that range from dreamy and heavenly to more meaning and moving. Emotional from start to finish, it once again finds Beltran using moderns tools and techniques with classical musical values.
