Project 24 - No More Ep

Project 24

No More Ep

exclPMP004 + STICKER
Playmusic-Productions
31.01.2013

The fourth release of the Hamburg-based Label PMP (Playmusic Productions) will be given from
Project 24 - since October 2009 this pseudonym stands for the DJ's and producers Joscha Grunewald and Maxim K. Both of them are from Detmold in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Their studio is based in their hometown, established in Hangar 24, a former building of the British armed forces. Hence the number 24 in the project's name reflects its connection to this building. On the a-side of their 'No More EP' you will find a great crossover track called 'The Difference', which combines techno and songwriting in a really worthy way. In the break this beast evolves into something you would never think of when you put that track on. Goosebumps.
The other track on the a-side is called Aurora. The dramatic string sounds define the mood for the break, then a few synths fade in, and in the break the track has reached its peak, emotions are really strong, then the bass carries the groove again and the track gets danceable again. Definitely a real gem of melodic techno.
On the b-side you can find the title track 'No More', which is quite a difference to the a-side, but you still know that it's Project 24, their remarkable atmosphere work really makes this track deep again, even though the drums are some kind of disco-influenced. Again some lovely vocals by Joscha Grunewald with a slight pop-appeal define the break of the record, a beautiful slide guitar captures the feeling of the track and then a modulated bass comes in, and it starts to mesmerize you..
Then the release gets rounded up with a remix by the dutch producer Rob Hes, who has already released on labels like Sounds Of Earth and Repressure Recordings, and he will also have his debut on Gabriel Ananda's Basmati imprint soon. His remix is a real monster combining the atmosphere of the original track and some beautifully morphed sounds, that are taking the remix to another galaxy.
All in all, a really impressive release by two guys who have unbelievable talent. Keep at least one eye on them..

"Very interesting EP. Most of it is not necessarily something I would play a lot. I tend toward the harder end of things, but my tastes vary far beyond what I play all the time, and it's definitely well-made, musical and unique. I would probably drop "Aurora (Rob Hes Remix)" in an early morning set.

Hell, maybe I'm full of shit and I'd drop any of them. "No More" is seriously a fantastic piece of music. Echoes of 80s alternative in that delayed slide guitar. If nothing else, this is going on my iPod. Who knows. An early morning may tempt me to play this one yet. ;)"

Ra - After Dark " Moonshine

Superb debut release on Piktogram, a label founded by Polish artist Ra. Highly influenced by the Naples, Berlin, Montreal and Detroit techno scenes, his vision is to release fresh music with old school flavour. This first two-tracker of bass-heavy dancefloor ammo of the highest calibre certainly reflects this.

No need to introduce Jonas Kopp anymore. The Argentinian made his Curle debut in 2008 and has been a regular guest with releases and remixes ever since. 'Desire' will be his third full EP on the label. Next to that Jonas Kopp already released on Spectral Sound, Ostgut Ton, Stroboscopic Artefacts and DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted House label. And of course on his own Traut and Manzel imprints.
The smooth title track will definitely appeal to the fans of Deliric (Curle 020). 'Reject' and 'Chaos' are both more straight forward techno outings. Pick your favourite!

Xhin - Dark Tiled Landscape Ep

After last years critically acclaimed 'The Realm EP', Xhin returns to Token with new savagery.

'Projection' sets the mood perfectly with its dark throbbing sound textures, while the real storm gathers during the title track, which showcases fierce percussion and a mean low end. When Xhin unleashes his demons in the brutal 'Hunters', the earth shakes under the heavy artillery of spiky, menacing drums. 'A Different Angle' is the soundtrack to the aftermath and guides us back to safer grounds accompanied by dark layers of dense atmospherics.

This EP sucks you right in and before you know it, you find yourself trapped in this 'Dark Tiled Landscape'. Welcome back Xhin.

Monoloc - First Drift Ep

2

Just as we would have expected it from a restless sound scientist like Monoloc, the first single announcing his upcoming debut album on CLR is another proof of his constant evolution. Since the release of his first record in 2001, this versatile and inspiring electronic musician has been honing his production skills and has released music on numerous renowned labels. CLR061 and the upcoming album are results and vivid expressions of his remarkable development as a producer. None other than Chris Liebing assisted during the mix-down of the new tracks and studio neighbor Brian Sanhaji took good care of the mastering. The outcome is an in-house CLR production that will surely satisfy even the most exigent listeners. Both tracks on CLR061 are good examples of one of Monoloc´strongest gifts, which is the ability to freely use elements from all kinds of musical styles and incorporate them artistically into his own compositions. 'Shame' is a groovy, atmospherically rich piece of music, which includes several of the artist´s musical influences, always staying true to his popular minimalistic Techno roots. The dreamy, captivating vocals add a certain retro-touch to the track, which is not a contradiction but merely a challenge for a free-spirited producer like Monoloc. The second track 'HH' is a shining example of an uncompromising piece of up to date Techno, reduced to the indispensable but still deep and full of personal expression. If you are a friend of intelligent electronic music you should definitely pay attention to the present release and the upcoming album of this inspiring artist.

Stroboscopic Artefacts - Stellate 4 2x12"

Limited Edition Boxset: 300 Copies With No Repress
SASTE004 is the fourth release in the Stellate Series: sounds gathered from the experimental frontiers and outer edges of electronic music. For each Stellate Series release two tracks are created by four different producers. Collected together here are eight tracks from the periphery of electronic music.
Stellate 4 brings together the visions of L.B. Dub Corp, Dscrd, Sendai and James Ruskin. The tracks stem from the most disparate sources and are products of incomparable processes, yet, all four outfits have created music brimming with questions about spatial relationships. The eight tracks emerge as part-soundscapes, part-structures with which to explore our darkest selves and our deepest questioning.
L.B. Dub Corp opens Stellate 4 with 'Choctaw Dub'. With this reference to the Choctaw Native Americans the track situates itself at the point of friction between ancient wisdom and the realities of modern western living. Within this enormous cavern 'Choctaw Dub' commands a huge architectural space where heady, ecstatic noise whirls in the distance, syncopated claves chatter in the mid-ground and strange echoes reverberate in between. Shifting the frame of reference 'Indulgent Dub' is a futuristic moonscape. Dusty beds and pads are interrupted by clangs that tone out of turn, but not out of place.
French five piece Dscrd put their many hands to work and 'Aedificare' and 'Interitum' emerged. Constructed with great arcs and drops that lead to sonic corridors 'Aedificare', the Latin for building, establishing, creating, is the perfect title. Process is also highlighted with 'Interitum' where repeating phrases lead the listener through odd structures and along paths that are at once familiar and undefined. Skilfully sound-designed it is just as easy to get lost in 'Interitum's details as it is in the grandiose scope of what Dscrd have created.
From ten hands to four: Sendai is the collaboration between Peter Van Hoesen and Yves De Mey. 'Without the Written Word (Part 1)' and 'Without the Written Word (Part 2)' are fortified with bone-chilling menace. Having dispensed with the written word, all other forms of communication step into the fore: you can't consult your notes anymore, they're gone. What you've got are your ears and what they get is a vicious assault. Part 1 is an angular meeting of high-pitched shrills and synthesized screeches. Part 2 is a slab of drone slashed with noise and gnarling bass.
James Ruskin takes care of the final side of Stellate 4 and contrasts the brutalist structures created by Sendai with tracks that channel wide-open spaces and glacial planes. 'Cabin Fever' is created with a very refined palette of compressed sounds that unfold with slow precision. 'Cast Down' closes the record on a sumptuous note. 'Cast Down' is composed of stunning melodies are looped and layered. This is a track to get lost it. It's a track to dance alone to. It's a seven minute journey that, by the very same token, is mournful and utterly ecstatic.
The Stellate Series is boxed exquisitely in a round metallic tin which contains two clear 10" vinyls. Each vinyl is separated by a typographic print on recycled paper. The Stellate releases also contain a hand-numbered artwork inlay by Oblivious Artefacts. The entire artwork comprises of four parts which are divided between Stellate 1 through to Stellate 4. Additionally each release contains a unique card with a download code. Each Stellate release is a strictly limited edition of 300. The entire Stellate Series was craftily mastered in Berlin by Artefacts Mastering. Words: Clare Molloy.

Terrence Dixon - Minimalism Re:vision

We've made no secret of our love for Terrence Dixon here at THEMA. After his THEMA debut with 'The Parkhurst', a record that helped to reignite his career, we've seen the legendary figure move on to even bigger things, and we helped the cause even more just recently with his 'The Return' EP as Population One on our Chronicle sublabel. His resurgence has reminded us what always drew us and many others to his work from the beginning, and it's thus with immense pride that we announce Minimalism Re:Vision, featuring remixes of Terrence Dixon's groundbreaking Minimalism Part 1 from 1995. As the final release on Claude Young's influential but short-lived Utensil Records, the understated record is one of Dixon's first few releases as well as a certified classic of early Detroit minimal techno. Revising it is a tough task to tackle and one we approached with great care; thus, we present three equally relevant, equally reverent mixes by today's finest techno figures on a full EP. Mike Huckaby, Silent Servant, and DVS1 all stand shoulder-to-shoulder at the front line of contemporary dancefloor music, and we feel that presenting their versions alongside the original does justice and homage to its enduring legacy for THEMA's Re:Vision Series.

Mike Huckaby is no stranger to Terrence Dixon; seeing as they come from the same city, work in the same area, and are of the same generation. We have little doubt Huckaby has the Utensil EP somewhere in his record collection actually, and his studied interpretation certainly shows such deep roots. It takes the threatening aspect of Terrence's original into the background, but Huckaby replaces it with upfront, drum-machine fueled aggression and ruthlessly unleashes a proper Detroit beatdown underlain with woozy, loopy synthesizers. Working at a complete contrast but remaining equally true to the original's mold, Silent Servant zeroes in on the heavy, haunting atmosphere and damaged electronics and underpins his remix with a dirty, repeating bassline of his own invention. It's ominous and distinctly influenced by other aspects of Dixon's work, but it also asserts itself as one of Silent Servant's most arresting recent efforts. DVS1's nimble interpretation juxtaposes seemingly endless percussion fills against dub chords that formed the backbone of Dixon's 1995 track. There, they remained discrete and shadowy, but here the haze is drawn away as they interlock with the adroit drums. We can easily see DVS1 smashing this in one of his lightning-quick mixes, and afterwards we finish the record with Terrence Dixon's (A2) original, where the contrasting aspects of the other mixes meld kaleidoscopically into something that stands easily alongside the most creative of today's techno.

As a reunion for friends, an overview of today's best talent, and a re-evaluation of past and present achievements, THEMA looks back to the rich past while still moving unstoppably into the future.

Scalameriya / Ducerey Ada Nexino - Summoning Sequence / Guide

After 3 years of releasing successfully as a digital only label, Genesa Records is starting with a special series of vinyl releases. For the first release we have original works by the label owner himself, Scalameriya, and one of Genesa's main artists, Yuji Kondo (aka Ducerey Ada Nexino) from Japan. On the remix duty, 2 well-known names: the fierce sound of Ancient Methods & floor shaking grooves from one of Spain's legendary acts, the incredible duo, Exium, are pushing this record into higher
standards.
Without following any trends, we have a cutting edge EP with a cinematic, industrial track 'Summoning Sequence' by Scalameriya. A clean & modern approach with epic synths & razor sharp production, provokes ceremonial scenes of obscure activities. The remix by Ancient Methods is unexpected for the regular AM sound. Evil, saw-like, evolving samples and the pumping groove packed in a recognizable way of production are digging into your ears and bursting out of your skin. A devastating rave track!
On the b-side, Ducerey Ada Nexino's 'Guide' represents the neo-industrial sound. Yuji is already known for his breathtaking, broken up machinery with works on Semantica or Genesa's digital series, but for this opportunity he makes a fresh tool-techno track that is spreading it's heavy artillery trough the dance floor much like the 'Harvester' in 'Terminator 4'. Exium did a groovy, slightly atmospheric version with a surprising, big, aggressive drop in around the 4th minute. They are 'guiding' us into the deepest ocean before shooting us with warp speed to the moon.
This release will be available in ltd 200 transparent clear vinyl edition. The digital release will be available a few weeks after.

**** only on deejay.de as double 12" includes AREC001 Vinyl !! ****
Special LTD deejay.de release include AREC001
For their second launch a-records turns to Sandburgen aka Ralf Noetzel.
With Sandorama he delivers a varied 4-tracker which dances around minimal techno yet could find itself dropped all over.

A1 - Quartz: atmospheric minimal trance, clattering beats, insistent bass and a mesmeric synth harmony for early morning dancefloors.
A2 - Sandorama: the title track breaks in with a stumbling bassline which funks its way across stomping minimal beats and fluttering white noise percussion.
B1 - Sunshine: the non four to the floor track of the EP. Hypnotic staccato synths culminate in an atmospheric sound spectacle, soundtrack to gamma radiation.
B2 - Minced Meat: inspired by 80s synth-pop anthems and trance fundamentals. The track starts off with dry bass and drum sounds before being carried away by swelling synth arpeggios.

Sandorama continues the a-records saga with the same philosophy yet an alternative form. Where Sumad rocked with brilliant dryness, Sandburgen wallows in treacle-laced melodies without lapsing into mainstream

B1 - Sunshine: Der Non-4 to the floor Track der E.P: Hypnotische Staccato-Synths gipfeln in atmosphärischem Klang-Spektakel.

Dino Sabatini - Shaman's Path

Dino Sabatini is not just a Prologue artist having the first 12 release in our catalogue, he is also one of the most authentic Prologue artists who is responsible for providing the well known Prologue sound aesthetic. Dino´s productions always deliver exactly our vision of music; deep, hypnotic, atmospheric and mind-driven. It's no surprise that we are more than proud to announce the third Prologue album this year, which comes from our high respected mate from Berlin. The album is called 'Shaman's Paths' and it is more than just an album for all of us. Dino´s Shaman's Paths is his personal interpretation of the sounds of Africa, which provides since decades the basis of trance in order to loose your mind in sounds and drum arrangements and it is his personal interpretation of the Prologue sound aesthetic. The Album is planned for October 2012. One part will be a CD mixed with all tracks, which simply is the Shaman's Paths to follow. Further we will also have one 12 Vinyl which will contain the most club oriented hypnotic tracks from the Album and a complete digital album with all separate tracks. Dino is now available for bookings and his album tour.

_moonraker is a continually evolving musical conversation that longs for escape from terrestrial constraints. The human participants in this machine dialogue are Great Circles mainstay Jason Carr, and kenneth_lay, who is also one half of metasplice. _moonraker's m-type 12" features extractions from a lengthy recording session held in Philadelphia, documenting their fearless approach to live improv and hypnotic programming. The dirt, hiss and subterranean kicks of the basement aesthetic are juxtaposed with massive drones and cosmic synth movements. With the audio mastered by RJ Valeo and lacquers cut by Dietrich Schoenemann, this 12" brings the deepest sounds for the darkest lunar voyages.

Before the Release of his Debut Album on Ki, Monokle throws in an EP to show us what to expect. The beautiful track - Swan' pretty much describes perfectly what Monokle means when he says that - simple rhythms and catchy beats get him bored quickly'. Being influenced by the music of the British imprint Warp for example, the Sankt Petersburg based artist has pretty much developed his own interpretation of well, what should it be called It's Monokle! He has his very own aesthetic approach to music and has a very fine hand for sublime melodies and atmospheres. On the B Side he teams up with his friend and partner Milinal. - Swan' gets a proper retouch by Daisuke Tanabe, who shares Monokle's deep soundscapes and is just the right member of the Ki family to get his hands on this EP.

Oscar Mulero - Black Propaganda

It's just a year since the release of Grey Fades to Green, and we are now talking about Oscar Mulero's new album: Black propaganda.

9 brand new tracks that reflect a new twist in his sound, going deep into dark territories; a black and white approach to dance electronics, where shades and echoes and drones are mixed with obscure rhythm treatments that go from slow tempos to more uplifting beats.

Sonically speaking, his sound has become simpler, with less elements but better sound design. Less is more.

All tracks have a common feeling, like a soundtrack for a sad European landscape: mental, industrial, repetitive and definitely non-melodic. Do not expect any of the rich harmonies of the previous album, because this one is more about the texture and the feeling.

'The dirt' is a sweeping intro with digital noises, atmospheres, subbass drones and a seminal hi hat movement at the end.

'Instant widespread of the dirt' starts the motion: slow BPM range, reverberated beats, and a liquid feeling. As the arrangement goes on, rhythmical elements are added which increase the tension, while drones come back and forth.

'Introducing errors' follows perfectly from the previous track. Its drums are more diverse, yet they keep the liquid tones but with more harshness; again, different types of drones and sound details are spread on top of the beat, creating an hypnotic feeling.

'Disinformation' leaves tranquillity aside. The kick is fat, broken into the pattern, hats become sharp, drones go high, and percussive synth sounds shuffle all over the track.

'Convince for the untruth' is a proper techno workout: concrete kicks, flanged synth lines, tons of reverb, discipline and repetition. Drones are again part of the screen, appearing from the break and moving and mutating till the end comes.

'Intentionally false' goes bleepy with sinoidal bass and high synth sequences. 808 high hats and a clear approach, now drones are out. Let's explore the metallic.

'Inaccurate information' is a Sci Fi influenced work with crazy bell-like sequences, basic drum work and classic 909 workout for a spacey feeling.

'False statements' keeps the spirit of the album: dark, grey, but hard and funky. A few sonic ingredients, a solid beat, a clever arrangement... And let yourself go.

'Black propaganda' acts as an outro, as the first track; digital landscapes, drones, space effects and abstract noise.
