Re:Vision series restarts with Steve Poindexter's timeless classic 'Computer Madness'. We are very honored and excited to be able to re-release this beast of a track! It's hard to imagine that this was really created over 2 decades ago. So the task at hand was to find the right contemporaries to revise this masterpiece, we didn't have to look far to find the man for the job: Function is an old friend here at THEMA, and things got even better when he brought in Jerome Sydenham to co-produce the second treatment. It's thus with great pride we announce our Re:Vision of Computer Madness, featuring two resolutely modern reinterpretations of Poindexter's classic.
The original by Poindexter dates all the way from 1989 and is a brief, headlong rush into drum machine-fueled raw acid and has long been a staple of the genre for many as well as the first release on the seminal Musique Records. We wanted to start off with a stomper, so for the whole A side, we have Function with occasional co-conspirator Sydenham with an unstoppable driving interpretation that straightens the busy drums of the original into a pounding techno pulse and takes repeated, changing portions of the original acid line as its central riff. Much of the action here occurs in the dirty, growling bass the pair add to the lower register; this is peak time damage for the most unrelenting floors. On the flip side we start off with Function's deep, dubbed out reinterpretation, but it soon strides forward into the style of psychedelic but jacking techno familiar from his recent, more extroverted output. Even at almost double the length of the original, there's still a palpable aura of reverence to the way he approaches the track; it should come as no surprise that he ranks it highly in his favorites list. Then of course we finish off with Poindexter's original 1989 version, with all its original bang and glory. Still sounds fresh and as inspiring as it did the first time we heard this way back when...
Functioning as a reunion for friends as well as a re-evaluation of past and present achievements, Re:Vision looks back to the rich past while still moving unstoppably into the future. Look out for the next 2 releases in the Re:Vision series that's following up next!
It's been awhile since we at THEMA visited our Re:Vision series, where we pay homage to those that have influenced us and bring historical accomplishments into contemporary focus. It started with DJ Slip's classic 'Available Light' (THEMA017) featuring two incredibly well sought after remixes of the celebrated original by Franco Cinelli and Mikael Stavöstrand. Now revisiting the series
with renewed dedication, we've carefully selected three classic underground tracks that reverberate in past and present for re-evaluation by a cadre of contemporary techno's finest talent.

Often overlooked in American techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. No two finer exponents have there been than Minnesota's Paul Birken and Freddy Fresh. Their contributions date back to the early nineties when Freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like Labworks, EXperimental and his own Analog) - an activity that Paul took up a while later after debuting on Woody McBride's renegade Communique label in 1996.
Teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12", Paul and Freddy open with 'The Fate of Thirty Eight' - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose. 'Acid Sound of Malibu' sees Paul flying solo, laying down a teasing reverb-soaked warehouse cut where suggestive 303 frequency shifts jostle for centre stage, around a series of both bellowing and piercing sound fx.
On the b-side the pair team up again on 'Fifty Is Shifty': a distorted and demented electro workout if ever there was one. Think of Ed DMX + AFX, competing in a duel for the earth's last 808, and you're somewhere close. Closing the ep is Freddy's 'Year Back'. Originally released in 1998, it was squashed onto one side (with 5 other tracks) of his 'Last True Family Man' album on Eye Q. A hidden gem of that LP, it's an epic, spaced-out trip of pulsing electro that now gets the vinyl space it needs, as well as a beefy remastering.
Feedback:
Surgeon: Thanks for sending. Excellent stuff. I like the live raw feel. Timeless Techno really. I'll give 'Acid Youth of Malibu' a spin in my DJ sets.
Blawan: Is amazing mate, really feeling all 4 but that Acid Youth of Malibu is a thumper :) Massive release! Can't wait to get the vinyl
Objekt: thanks! these are nuts. Lots of fun.
2562 / A Made Up Sound: Is sounding fierce, first track in particular is a slammer :)
Perc: Thanks for this, I really like it. I think my favourite track is Years Back, the big banging acid tracks are cool but I prefer the little breakbeat/electro groove.
Inigo Kennedy: Heavy stuff and a pretty strong and raw Rephlex vibe here! Can see A2 working well for me. B2 is nice too.
Ancient Methods: The Fate of 38 is great! The others are not bad (they fit well to the recent Unit Moebius stuff) but this one is outstanding! Will definitely buy and play!
Truss: Wow. Amazing stuff! 'Acid Youth of Malibu' is absolutely wicked. Thanks loads for sending these
Bas Mooy: acid youth of malibu...oh my god, what a tune! love it!!!! will be dropping this one for sure mate!! thanks :)
Jerome Hill: Ferocious and refreshing! Love "Years back" and "fifty is Shifty" is on my 'Play out CD'.. Definitely Old skool style with Updated production. Monster monster !!
Tessela: Acid Youth of Malibu is AMAZING!! Thanks a lot for these mate, acid youth getting a spin tonight for sure
Minimum Syndicat: Pure raw analog mid-west sound as it used to be...and apparently still is ! we love it ! that's a powerful EP for sure.

With the 4th release the original 303 continues !! Acid Attack EP contains two original tracks from the masters Franky Jones and Stanny Franssen. Truss continues his recent run of form with a 12" on Our Circula Sound that demonstrates the depth and
breadth of his palate. Auden's slow burning groove and metallic dub call to mind Silent Servant's Historia Y Violencia
imprint, while Splot's distorted kicks and frantic pace blur the lines between Truss' sound and his current MPIA3 project.

With this release the obscure but legendary börft records from Sweden starts releasing some interesting electronic dancemusic again (after some resting years). The new format is MiniLP, longer playtime than an average 12'' but still DJ quality! PEEL MD is first out with this acidios travell that will make no resting moments but powerfull cruel groovy acid mood... Through their common appreciation for acid-artists such as Phuture, Bam Bam and Unit Moebius, as well as artists of such diversity as Autechre, Eurythmics and Killing Joke, they started to blend these influences with their own respective styles to come up with the concoction that is Peel MD. This is their debut release on vinyl. Limited edition of 250!

Making his debut on Dynamic Reflection and delivering a remarkable and outstanding three-track EP, 'Emerging Era', is Spanish artist and outspoken advocate of all things analogue, Eduardo de la Calle. Two originals, 'Speedlight Speedmind' and 'Dynamic Arrangements', complimented by a no-nonsense rework from the hands of Holland's finest jack-of-all-trades ROD make this fifteenth vinyl to date into a special one indeed!
The A-Side's minute soundscaping, Hood, Mills and Search-esque sounds, precise filtering and
delicate accents throughout and the flipside's wicked Basic Channel-like stabs turn both originals into weapons. Classic techno done in an impeccable manner.
ROD strips, shuffles and roughens 'Speedlight Speedmind' up in his trademark 'get to the point' fashion. Aimed at destroying any dancefloor ROD's rework keeps the original close, but lets only its basic instincts deftly filter through at just the right moments. Bomb, it's really that simple.

Best known for his releases across Bunker, Delsin, W.T. Recordings and more under the shark loving $tinkworx moniker, US producer JT Stewart is retaining the Drexciyan themes that ran through that recent 12inch while reining in some of the dread filled textures that permeated its every pore in favour of a more classicist take on the Detroit Utopian techno vision.

Lux Rec reaches number 10 in their catalogue, and for this occasion they come out with a special release.
In January 2012 CCO played a stunning and completely live & analog set at Zukunft, one of the best clubs in ZŸrich. Lux Rec asked him to reenact the set and record it once again, live. The result is a 1 hour long electronic music suite, filled with 808 and 707 beats, 303 acid lines and spatial sounds. They decided to press 2 excerpts, Pt. 1 is 12 minutes long while Pt. 2 is 25 minutes long, and release them on vinyl as MUSIC FOR COSMONAUTS. It was magic to see CCO at work, as no computer was used in the process every pattern specs had to be written down on paper, and machines programmed on the run.
The sleeve artwork of the LP has been silkscreened by Adalberto (Acidicted). The label picture is a piece specially made for Lux Rec by Marc Kappeler (moire.ch). The mastering has been done by Ruud Lekx (Rude 66), the idea and overall production of this release is by D Cosmo & Faber.
Music for Cosmonauts is music to look at the world from outer space. We hope you'll fly again with us.

At the end of 2006, Erol Alkan was at a crossroads. He'd been voted DJ of the year by Mixmag. He'dmade landmark, expectation-defying remixes for bands he loved: a crunching 'glam racket' reworking of 'Do You Want To' for Franz Ferdinand, a wonderfully wistful reinterpretation of Hop Chip's 'Boy From School', a psychedelic take on Scissor Sisters' 'I Don't Feel Like Dancing' and a genre-defining reworking of Justice's 'Waters Of Nazereth'. He was about to close Trash, the Monday night indie disco that had somehow morphed into the most adventurous, influential and glamorous club night in the world without changing its attitude, musical philosophy - or ever charging over six pounds on the door. Other triumphs lay a little further in the past. In 2006, he supported Daft Punk for their live return at Global Gathering at their own personal request. The year before, he did the same for Madonna at Koko in Camden with a DJ set which she used as an intro tape on her subsequent world tour. In 2002, he'd lent some muscle to another icon, creating the bootleg of 'Blue Monday' and 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' that Kylie performed at the Brits in 2002: the culmination of a craze for 'bastard pop' hybrids he'd been instrumental in creating alongside long-term kindred spirits Soulwax. Then there were his DJ sets at clubs and festivals around the world, in which Erol's unerring instinct for playing the right record at the right time brought hardened clubbers and alternative music obsessives together in abandoned celebration of brilliant music. Though he started DJing in dance clubs in earnest in 2001 after being invited to play at Bugged Out, Erol still considers himself an outsider in that scene. 'Unfortunately, I never had that seismic moment of hearing someone like Carl Craig DJ in '96' he says. 'I feel as passionately about the Manic Street Preachers as people in dance music do about Kraftwerk.

Liars' latest album WIXIW's fiercest track gets gargled in the jaws of Canadian hip-hop artist Cadence Weapon, who takes the electro-punk stomper and shoots its beats into new orbits. Sucking out the original's roaring break and laying down his own rhymes in place, Cadence Weapon diverts the flow of the tune while in no way dampening its bite.
Hotly-tipped Bristol based producer Vessel (Tri Angle / Left Blank) and LCD Soundsystem's David Scott Stone also climbed on board to remix the song
