French independent label Le Chant du Monde
celebrate the memory of some of the most popular
artists in history.
Cinema buffs around the world have in mind the
singular voice of this essential figure of French
cinema. 'Children of Paradise', 'Hotel du Nord', 'The
Evening Visitors' are among many movies that
have been successful thanks to its magnetic
presence. Léonie Marie Julie Bathiat (15 May 1898
- 23 July 1992), known professionally as Arletty,
was also a very expressive singer who left us,
unfortunately, too few recordings.
This release compiles fourteen of her best songs
alongside Arletty reciting texts extracting from
'Mort à Crédit', a famous French novel by Louis
Ferdinand Céline.

Luluc - Zoë Randell and Steve Hassett - released
their debut album, 'Dear Hamlyn', in 2008; the
songs were written following the death of Randell's
father.
'Dear Hamlyn' eventually gained a large group of
influential admirers. Peter Blackstock, co-founder
of No Depression Magazine, wrote of the album,
'The most beautiful album I've heard in ten years.'
In 2011, Nick Drake's producer, Joe Boyd, also
taken by 'Dear Hamlyn', invited Luluc to feature in
his Nick Drake tribute tour. They contributed the
tracks 'Things Behind The Sun' and 'Fly' to the live
tribute album, 'Way To Blue: The Songs Of Nick
Drake' in 2013.
Luluc went on to sign with Sub Pop Records and
release the critically acclaimed albums 'Passerby'
(2014) and 'Sculptor' (2018).
This edition of 'Dear Hamlyn' is the first time it has
been available on vinyl.

Peter Broderick & Friends - Play Arthur Russell

*Limted to 300 copies worldwide* It all began in summer 2017 when Peter Broderick's former Efterklang bandmate Rasmus Stolberg invited him to perform at his new festival in Denmark, with the specific idea that Peter would play an entire set of Arthur Russell songs. As a long-time lover of Arthur's work, Peter immediately accepted the invitation and began to learn a collection of Russell songs. Stolberg put together a band of Danish musicians to join Broderick on stage, and the festival performance went off without a hitch.

Immediately after, Peter starting receiving invitations from other festivals, asking for the same thing — a full set of Arthur Russell songs. Even Arthur's long-time partner Tom Lee took notice of these performances of Arthur's work, and reached out to Peter personally. It wasn't long before Broderick was invited to examine some of Russell's archival work, and asked to do audio restoration work on the old tapes.

Peter's strong love for Arthur's work grew exponentially as he dove into the psyche of his hero, listening to hours and hours of unreleased material. He discovered that some of his favorite Russell songs have yet to be heard by the masses, and felt inspired to learn some of these tunes himself.

It was inevitable that Peter would record an album of his own renditions of Arthur's songs. And there was no better place to do it than the state of Maine, where most of Arthur's surviving family are based, and where Broderick himself was born back in 1987. With a large cast of friends and family, including Arthur's niece Rachel Henry and nephew Beau Lisy, Peter set out to capture his love for Arthur's music with a diverse collection of 10 songs, two of which have yet to be released in their original versions.

Its cover adorned with an original painting by Tom Lee, 'Peter Broderick & Friends Play Arthur Russell' is a vibrant and joyful tribute to one of Broderick's greatest heroes. Peter extends his deepest gratitude to all of Arthur's family, friends and fans who have so warmly welcomed his own versions of these tunes. It is hoped that these recordings will serve to honor the truly staggering legacy of Arthur Russell.

Released in February 1994, Mother Earth's 'People
Tree' is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with the
release of this 180g green vinyl reissue, mastered
from hi-res transfers of the first generation master
tapes. This is the first time the album has been
available on vinyl for 20 years.
Mother Earth were part of the second generation
of Acid Jazz groups and were fronted by Matt
Deighton who would later go on to have a critically
acclaimed solo career as well as playing with Paul
Weller and for a short time becoming a member of
Oasis.
'People Tree' was produced over a year by Acid
Jazz boss Eddie Piller and it showed a love of both
soul and the sort of bucolic rock music made
famous by the likes of Traffic in the late 60s. It
featured incredible songwriting that manifested
itself in band favourites 'Jesse' and 'Apple Green'.
Guests on the album include Paul Weller, DC Lee
and The Brand New Heavies' Simon Bartholomew.
The album was a huge success, charting in the UK
and going on to sell over 100,000 copies
worldwide. It is an album that all involved remain
incredibly proud of.

Tradition and experimentation are two familiar
territories that C'mon Tigre, a duo who find
their identity by working with musicians from
all over the world, can balance between very
well. As they did for their debut album (2014),
they have put together a multicolored collective
for their second record 'Racines', out on
February 15, 2019 for BDC/K7.
The title is a French word that means "roots",
referring to the musical roots in which C'mon
Tigre's feet, head and heart are immersed, and
from which their contaminated tracks sprout to
create unusual and original sound environments. In their new album the sounds of the
Mediterranean - the sea of their land -
intersect, intertwine and overlap with a
kaleidoscope of other sounds and a new
approach based - they explain - "on the type of
work we had done when we rearranged the first
album for live shows, by emphasizing the
synthetic part of our tracks". This time around
they did it from the very beginning: "The
composition of the pieces immediately included
the use of machines and synthesizers as a
basis for acoustic instruments. The goal was to
reprocess the terrain of Mediterranean
influences that was undoubtedly our starting
point".
Imagine a work in progress where bass and
guitars interact with woodwind, synths, percussions, vibraphones, dipping the listener into a
sensual and hypnotic musical journey. Sailing
from the Mediterranean basin and being guided
by the fascination for Africa and the Middle
East, C'mon Tigre give rise to a personal
language, made up of mixtures with jazz,
afrojazz, the rhythmics of hip hop, funk, 70s
disco. All without ever confining their songs to
one style, but pushing the exploration as much
as possible, into a dimension that every journey
worthy of this name should encompass. "With
the musicians we work with the exchange and
experimentation continue till the end, the
songs can take different directions at any time'.
The result is a mixed, cosmopolitan record,
which escapes from any label for the affirmation of a free attitude. The attitude that led
C'mon Tigre to seek a connection with dancefloor culture, even if considered only as an
evocation to revisit in an absolutely personal
way

By popular demand, Analog Africa is repressing a high quality LTD edition of 1000 copies of Rob's first legendary 'Funky Rob way' album - comes in a gatefold cover and a 60x30cm poster !

Rob "Roy" Raindorf, born on the 13th of May 1949 in Accra, is definitely one of the most enigmatic artists to come out of Ghana. He appeared from nowhere with a unique and twisted sound. An admirer of American artists Otis Reading, James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Ray Charles, Rob began his trade by learning the piano at a music school in Cotonou, Benin. One off pressing - tip!!

When his education ended, he ventured out to make what money he could by getting gigs with the movers and shakers of the Beninese music scene, namely Orchestre Poly-Rythmo as well as the Black Santiagos. Absorbing and learning the intricacies of music composition, Rob returned to Ghana where he began to write his own songs and eventually sought the backing of a band, specifically one which possessed horns.

In 1977, a young Rob travelled to the city of Takoradi in western Ghana to approach an army band named Mag-2 whom he had seen perform in Accra. Mag-2 had an entire section of its ensemble dedicated to horns and some of the sophisticated music equipment available in Ghana at the time - Hofner guitars, Yamaha keyboards and the like.

Belonging to the "magnificient" second battalion of the Takoradi-based army unit, original founder Amponsah Rockson decided to aptly name the band "Mag-2." Joining the army during the 1970s was often an easy decision, particularly for musicians, since the army provided not only good music equipment but basic services such as food and medical care.

Mag-2 was essentially filled with the best elements of "The Parrots," a highlife band in which Amponsah was the lead guitarist. Their primary task was to entertain soldiers and with the army tour bus, perform from town to town as well as in reputable venues in the captial. Enticed by the style of music Rob had proposed, Mag-2 backed the Ghanaian sensation on two of his most astonishing records - his first and second albums -"Funky Rob Way" and "Make it Fast, Make it Slow," both of which were recorded at Essiebons studios in Accra.

Despite Rob's training and musical education, Amponsah was responsible for the vast majority of the compositions, such as building the chord progression and arranging the horns that Rob craved. Rob would even wait for the Mag-2 maestro's cue to begin singing. Despite early successes, a once-unflinching interest in Afrobeat began to wane by the early 1980s and Disco Boogie rapidly became the vogue style around which label owners and music producers sought to capitalize upon. The style Rob had shaped his career around was in decline and an adequate income consequently became a major concern, forcing him to travel to Hamburg, Germany in search of a financial backer.

On HELLO PIG, the Levellers had had enough of being told to write three minute pop singles and delivered an album that new label Warner Music neither understood or liked. Their marketing strategy was....to not have one. Subsequently, band and label fell out, parted company, and the album peaked at #28 in September 2000.

Featuring the sublime hit single, Happy Birthday Revolution, the epic tragedy of 61Minutes of Pleading and the beautiful Edge of The World, this reissue will prompt the long overdue reappraisal that this album deserves.

To celebrate their 30th Anniversary, the Levellers are releasing a series of limited-edition coloured vinyl albums.

Having recorded every show on the 50 date 'Zeitgeist' tour of 1995, hundreds of hours of live performances were pored over to produce the definitive Levellers Live album of its time.

True to form, the band chose the lyrics of 'The Road' for the album title but the label, China Records, wanted the words 'Best' and 'Live' in the title to imply exactly what was in the tin. A standoff ensued until a compromise was found....to include everything....and the album was released in August 1996, reaching #13 in the album charts.

Previously unavailable on vinyl, Jon Sevink has delighted in mastering the original 1/2' analogue tapes of 'Headlights' for its debut release as a double LP.

Kohei Amada, Sugai Ken - Kyogokuryu-sokyoku 'Shinshunfu'

"Shinshunfu" exists at a crossroads, a form both distinctly Japanese and distinctly "other", a complex blend of folk strains that is deep with emotional resonance and hard to place even for aficionados of Japanese traditional music. Of "Shinshunfu", only the drone of the sho¯ and the occasional taiko hit appear in plain view. The exploration sits comfortably in the idiosyncratic sound world that Ken has been prolifically constructing for himself in the last few years (what he has come to call "Japanese electronic-folklore"), just as brilliant as one would expect. --- Spencer Doran (Visible Cloaks)

The cover of this release features a gradation of color, a subtle but complete infusion of one element into another, an almost imperceptible moment where A becomes B and both become more. And that is one way of thinking about the music in this release, a piece composed in the mid-1950s, and a 2018 re-working of that same piece. The original was composed by Ko¯hei Amada and played by an ensemble in which the Japanese traditional instruments koto, sho¯ and taiko fuse perfectly with the Irish harp. The composition itself also melds Amada' s traditional, classical sensibilities and his knowledge of the deepest roots of Japanese music with his appreciation of new developments in both Japanese and Western music.

Another element to consider here is the role of Amada' s voice and lyrics, fusing noh and other traditional elements with a modernity foreshadowing the rise of the singer-songwriter, melding high tradition with folk impulses. This theme of gradation and infusion continues in the other piece of music on this release, Sugai Ken's revision of the original, with its puzzling amalgamation of analog/digital, acoustic/electric, and performed/programmed, with the various temporal and geographical elements of Amada's music melted and melded into the 21st century.

The 2nd release will be coming up from Japanese dispatching Label 'VOLKUTA - Songs of Japan' which has released Ikue Asazaki's 'Yoisurabushi' for the first release. For this release, 3 songs are selected from the album 'Infuke' released in 2001 by Umeko Ando who is known as the master of Upopo (song) and Mukkuri (mouth harp) and also known as one of the successor of the Ainu tribal culture of Hokkaido Obihiro district. Umeko Ando has been sending the Ainu Music to both at home and over the world with her unafraid of challenging style adopting new style for new generations but the same time respecting the original which is followed since the ancient. A1 'Battaki' is fusion of the Ainu's Upopo and folky sound of Tonkori the stringed instrument of the Ainu & percussion by Oki from Oki Dub Ainu Band. Contrariwise A2, A3 are Mukkuri representing the Ainu's primitive style itself. For sideB, Joe Claussell has remixed over 14minutes giving Jazz essence into 'Battaki".

The Ainu originally has been living powerful on the ground of Hokkaido with great natures as well as aborigines like Native Americans or Eskimos. It's a well known fact that a place name Hokkaido is phonetic equivalent from Ainu Language by force. It is not easy to imagine their original highly developed culture & tradition and their trading business with abroad when you already know the Ainu's simple freely living style which is actually made up for tourism. The truth is father from our expectations. And we can never forget the persecuted history that the westernizing Japanese (Japanese expect the Ainu) robbed the land unfairly, forced the values which is convenient only for themselves. The Label is happy to release all over the world of Ms. Umeko Ando and the producer Mr. Oki's production who are definitely one of the brave predecessors who has been creating wonderful music to redeem the pride of the Ainu.

Releasing the sound by vinyl record is also to deliver the background of the music through media of a jacket. It is absolutely different from what is released with simple two hole sleeve. The remixer Joe Claussell has not just remixed the sound, he had recreated the view of this music into his world of view.

It has been 4years already from the first release, but still have the same touching ever since we had decided to release these music. We have faith this music will be play for many years in the whole world as well as our first release.

With their fourth studio album, 'Canterbury Girls', named after
Canterbury Park, located in their hometown of Indianapolis, the

eclectic playlist of songs as sonic inspirations - soul tunes and
waltzes, as well as cuts from Midlake, ABBA and Nancy Wilson - Lily
& Madeleine worked quickly, recording 'Canterbury Girls' in just 10
days.
Although the record contains plenty of Lily & Madeleine's usual
ornate music - including the languid 'Analog Love', on which twangy
guitars curl around like a kite twisting in the wind - the album also
finds the siblings exploring new sonic vistas. 'Supernatural Sadness' is
an irresistible slice of bubbly, easy-going disco-pop; the urgent
'Pachinko Song' hews toward interstellar synth-pop with driving
rhythms and 'Can't Help The Way I Feel' is an effervescent, Motown
inflected number.
Vocally, the sisters also take giant leaps forward. The dreamy waltz
'Self Care' is a rich, piano-heavy track on which their voices
intertwine for soulful harmonies, while the meticulous 'Just Do It' has
a throwback 70s R&B vibe. 'This is the first record Lily and I have
ever done where we have full control over all of the songwriting,'
says Madeleine. 'We did co-write with some people that we really
love. But everything on this record is completely ours. I feel like I
have full ownership over it, and that makes me feel very strong and
independent.' With this growing self-confidence and musical poise,
it's clear that Lily & Madeleine are positioned for even greater things
going forward.

She made everyone in the studio an instant believer.' Yola said, 'Lyrically the song is about escapism and the video adds an awesome twist. We wrote the song about getting away from an oppressive environment. I was in an abusive relationship a while back, so I drew on the feeling of relief and release that I had when I truly felt free.'

Hailing from a small town outside Bristol, Yola grew up in poverty with an unsupportive parent who 'banned' her from making any music. She later became homeless, living on the streets of London and also experienced stress-induced voice loss. Yola overcame these challenges to launch a successful sideline in writing, performing on pop hits and briefly joined Massive Attack. She was also the main writer and front woman in Phantom Limb, opening for artists including James Brown and Dr. John before pursuing her solo career in 2016. She quickly made her mark in the US with her vocal powers and innovative songwriting winning early supporters, including Rolling Stone, the Wall Street Journal, Paste, Stereogum, NPR and The Current's Bill DeVille who exclaimed, 'She's a powerhouse of a singer: she's part Southern soul, she's part gospel and she's completely amazing. You'll want to remember her name: Yola.'

Written and recorded at Auerbach's Nashville studio, Easy Eye Sound, Walk Through Fire is a truly collaborative record. It was written in the studio by Yola and Auerbach with contributions from songwriting legends who between them have written songs for artists from Glen Campbell to Aretha Franklin. Auerbach also assembled his Easy Eye Sound all-star house band composed of legendary session players. Musicians who performed on the record include bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash) as well as drummer Gene Chrisman and pianist Bobby Wood who played on hits by Dusty Springfield and Elvis Presley. Guest performers include up-and-comer Molly Tuttle and country music icon Vince Gill. Yola's debut album Walk Through Fire is the latest release on Dan Auerbach's record label, Easy Eye Sound, distributed by his longtime label Nonesuch Records. UK tour dates will be announced shortly.

Originally released 3 December 1978, Back to Earth would be Cat Steven's 11th studio album and his last for almost 30 years.

1977 and 1978 were a period of great change for Cat Stevens. He had formally embraced the Muslim faith, changed his name to Yusuf Islam, been awarded the Sun Peace Award by the United Nations and had reunited with producer Paul Samwell-Smith and guitarist/collaborator Alun Davies to embark on one last record before turning his back on the music industry, seemingly for good.

Sonically, the album was a return to the acoustic sound of Yusuf's earlier work. Intended, in part, as his swan song to the recording industry. 2006's An Other Cup saw Yusuf return to music and with a re-found verve for his exceptional catalogue of work.

BMG and Cat-O-Log Records re-release Back To Earth as a special anniversary edition.

Guadeloupe 1986. The football World Cup has all the Islanders' eyes riveted to their TV sets. At every half time breaks, local TV channel RFO broadcasts a music video on repeat: ''Tou't Jou Pa Min'm". Max Rambhojan, the local singer responsible for this monster tune, has arrived.

In the video, he effortlessly sings and kickstarts a joyous street party with his band, Show Man, his dancers, kids, friends, family and what seems like the whole neighbourhood. The song will gain cult status from then on, cementing the power of the 'Zouk Chiré' sound, a high tempo version of Zouk, highly influenced by Guadeloupe's Carnival mass drum bands. Max self-releases his first solo album on vinyl in 1985, enrolling some of the best musicians the scene has to offer: his band leader King Klero, Guy Jacquet of les Vikings de la Guadeloupe fame on production duties, Ramon Pyrmée on synths, Claude Vamur, Meliza... In 1992 a new solo album follows. By then the artists have familiarized themselves with computers and the sound has gone full-on digital. In that album Max records an updated version of his 'Tou't Jou Pa Min'm' anthem to great effect.

Reducing Max Rambhojan to a zouk artist would be a mistake. He's first and foremost a master of Gwo-Ka, a musical practice born during the transatlantic slave trade and performed by all ethnic and religious groups of Guadeloupe. It has never ceased to exist and has become a major part of the Island folk music culture. Max Rambhojan was schooled as a kid by Gwo-Ka pioneer Guy Conquette, and quickly joined the backing band of another legend, Ti-Sélès. That sound is the root of his particular style, especially vibrant on two tracks in his repertoire: 'Cecilia' and 'On Jou Matin', both featured on this release's b-side. A touch of Spiritual Jazz is also palpable, allowing a magical vibe to spread, giving birth to some of the deepest music from this era.

In 2019, Max still performs Gwo-Ka every week-end in Guadeloupe and also hosts a show on local radio Media Tropical, 88.1FM. Secousse and Hot Mule are proud to present those 4 lost gems on wax and digital, carefully restored and remastered.

Mercy John erzählt auf Let It Go Easy über die Schwierigkeiten des Lebens, wohingegen die
Songs auf natürliche Weise entstanden sind. Nachdem er sein erstes Album This Ain't New York
geschrieben hatte, wurde der Künstler bereits für sein gutes Songwriting gelobt. Und sein neues
Album beweist noch mehr, dass die tiefsten Emotionen meistens zu den faszinierendsten Songs
führen. Sein bemerkenswertes Debüt-Album hat für den Songwriter, der mit bürgerlichem Namen
John Verhoeven heißt, viele Türen geöffnet.
Es folgten mehrere Auftritte bei großen Festivals und Support-Gigs für JW Roy und Danny
Vera. Der Erfolg überrannte den Musiker förmlich, so dass er sich einigen Ängsten und
