In The Temptation of Dr. Antonio,' Rota subtly underlines the obsession for morality which dominates the life of Dr. Antonio, the leading character in the episode . . . and his sensitive musical comment on Visconti's contribution to Boccaccio '70 - The Job'-is a unique asset to the great director's work. Armando Trovajoli is the composer of the musical commentary to De Sica's The Raffle.' Trovajoli was the first composer to induce Sophia Loren to sing in a film . . . and in The Raffle,' Sophia sings again. The strikingly effective underscoring for Boccaccio '70, composed by these two outstanding musicians, is in no small way responsible for the smash box-office success of the film around the world

Last recordings by songwriter Epic Soundtracks, that recorded this sessions at home with his friend Kevin Jr. Due to sudden death by Epic Soundtracks this recordings became his last album. It was only released on CD until today. We have wanted to reunite last recordings with first ones and complete our reissue series of Epic Soundtracks. That's why we've added a 7" with first solo single by Epic Soundtracks who prefered a friend for sing and called ex Soft-Machine member Robert Wyatt.

This record has been created as a resource for sample-based music producers and provides a selection of 4/4 grooves and breaks: from minimalist to intricate, straight to swung, and also includes single hits of vintage kicks, snares, hi-hats, toms and cymbals, all recorded at ATA Records Studio A with 1960s analog recording gear onto 2" tape before being mixed and mastered for vinyl.

Originally released in 1986, 'Alkaid' was the first solo release of DECA following his debut appearance on the cult various artists compilation 'Angelo Segreti' The original edition was published in a tiny edition on the independent Italian label Videoradio and to this day remains a rare and sought after album. Following Mothball and Bordello's continued work with DECA, we are proud to make this diverse and fascinating collection of music available to a wider audience. On this instrumental LP we can hear elements of modern classical, synth-pop, dark ambient and even some middle eastern influence.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri received the top audience prize at the Toronto Film Festival following wins at the Venice Festival, and now seems poised for Oscar glory. This dark comedy starring Frances McDormand is scored by Carter Burwell, (Carol, Coen Brothers catalogue), and the soundtrack also features tracks from Joan Baez, Monsters of Folk, Townes Van Zandt and The Four Tops.

OVERVIEW: Sublime unreleased score to weird cult / brutalist Bracknell thriller. Music by Kirchin and his killer cohorts. Unmissable.

HISTORY:
Released for the first time here is this charming, odd and affecting score by Basil Kirchin, made 'in association' with his regular cohorts, Jack Nathan and John A. Coleman.

The film, released in 1970, was directed by the multi-talented and quite radical David Greene. Greene was also an actor, a successful producer and had already employed the services of Kirchin for his 1967 horror The Shuttered Room and quirky crime thriller The Strange Affair.

I Start Counting notably starred a young Jenny Agutter. who at the age of 14 was playing the role of an inquisitive 16 year old schoolgirl. The film is set in brutalist Bracknell, with Agutter's character living in Royal Point, a classic 'threepenny bit' of a 1960s tower block. When she ventures away from the safety of this concrete castle on an obsessive, erotically charged journey, her world is turned upside down.

As macabre, coming of age thriller, the score for I Start Counting allowed Kirchin to explore more dark edges of film music and composition: as a score it bubbles along with lots of classic Kirchin hallmarks, but here we are also treated to a beguiling opening song that is lyrically and musically developed and then slowly pulled apart over sequential cues. We also have a unusual Eastern tinge to some of the percussion and Kirchin's distinctive pastoral oddness is here too. His sonic jumps between low drama and high tension are extraordinary, and his use of free jazz to bring about unease is both perfectly simple and effective. I remember talking to Basil about the opening song many years ago and he explained that his original idea was to have it sung by Cilla Black or Jenny Agutter but in the end Lindsay Moore, the daughter of jazz chum Barbara Moore stepped in.

The score mighty fine but a little short, so here we have included more unreleased soundtrack material from the Kirchin archive - a tape labeled 'Third World Documentary'. This dates from the early 1980s and was produced for either TV or a festival and musically complements the first score well, even though they are two decades apart.

The names of the musicians working here died with Basil. But I reckon for I Start Counting the drummer may well have been Clem Cattini, Evan Parker was more than likely involved with the session and possibly Derek Bailey too - the improvised passaged have a whiff of their presence. As for the later recording, I have no idea, but there is a distinctive modern 'Fairview' sound to the cues and production.

We are pleased to release for the absolute first time on CD and LP+CD the complete OST by Stelvio Cipriani for the film Convoy Busters' (aka Poliziotto Sprint'). Originally C.A.M. had released a single with the two tracks "Speed Machine" and "Crazy Town" (AMP 198). But thanks to the stereo master tapes from the recording session, we had the opportunity to assemble a CD with the entire fabulous OST (43:36 minutes). Stelvio Cipriani managed to describe the character of Agent Palma perfectly through music. Palma is a true "stuntman" in his fight against crime and Cipriani composed a cheerful score which also gives a sense of urban reality with its tangled jungle full of dangers. The rhythms and the typical sound of the moog synthesizer of the late seventies create the right atmosphere, which is a pleasure for the listener who dives back in time and can imagine the daring exploits of the protagonist. Cipriani also manages to lighten up the serious battle between the good cop and the criminal with a sweet love theme introduced and then developed throughout the film. The city life with its chaotic traffic and hectic pace are emphasized by a long piece of large wind orchestra jazz and blues called "Crazy Town" (which was on the B-side of the single) and is also found in its short version. This OST is a great addition to the archive devoted to the film music by legendary Stelvio Cipriani. Limited editions of 300 copies each.

Based on a small inspiration by Kudo Tori, with additional material added from the voicemail recordings made by Hashizaka Ai (and her family) and from a Maher Shalal Hash Baz 30th anniversary show in Shinjuku, to make up three levels of sound.

Hashizaka's sounds are full of the highly entropic sadness of northern Wakayama and Maher at Shinjuku sounds like they were a little angry.

Kudo-san says that he picked up a sense of blankness and kindness from these fragments. Something like the feeling you get at an out of the way bookstore that has a nice collection of books, or at a small cheap bar that features fried organ meat, or a bakery, or taking a long trip, or when you're extremely busy with cooking, cleaning, housework and child care, or other real experiences that make life worth living.

Digitmovies, with collaboration of Gruppo Sugar, issues for the very first time on CD, in the de-luxe digipack series, the complete OST in mono by Ennio Morricone for the western movie Duello nel Texas' (aka Gunfight at the red sands') directed in 1963 by Ricardo Blasco and starring Richard Harrison, Giacomo Rossi Stuart, Mikaela. The village of Carteville on the border to Mexico is in danger from a mysterious and dangerous gang of thugs. One night the band assaults the house of a Mexican family, including an orphan of American nationality adopted by Don Diego and known by all as El Gringo'. The gang kills the householder and steals the gold the family has at home. The man eventually discovers the true identity of the criminals. One against all, El Gringo' succeeds with cunning and courage in liberating the town from the presence of evildoers forever. For this film Ennio Morricone has signed his first western score ever, just one year before the global success of Per un pugno di dollari' (aka A Fistful of Dollars') by Sergio Leone. Although still far from his musical style which is internationally known for this kind of genre, the then 35 years old Ennio Morricone has composed a strong symphonic score featuring the main theme song A Gringo Like Me' (we hear both the performance of Peter Tevis and the alternate one of Dicky Jones) which gets reprised with exciting instrumental versions, alternated with saloon music, highly dramatic orchestral passages full of tension, music for wild rides, romantic and epic sequences. Till today only the song performed by the voice of Peter Tevis and a suite of 4:53 issued on a C.A.M. compilation were avaialble on the soundtrack market. For our CD (TT 41:54) we have used every note which had been recorded during the original session. This project has been fully approved by M° Morricone who with his great friendship helped us in the making of a release which is much awaited from all his fans around the world. Limited edition.

Digitmovies is releasing the LP and CD of the OST from the film Blackie the Pirate' (original title: Il Corsaro Nero'). Blackie the Pirate is a fictional character created by the Italian writer Emilio Salgari. The character has appeared in various films throughout the years. The composer Gino Peguri (author of soundtracks for movies like Bloody Pit of Horror," "Seven Magnificent Pistols", "A Woman on Fire", "Psychopath," "Code Name, Red Roses") wrote an orchestral score for "Blackie the Pirate" which was released in 1971 on a rare LP from RCA (SP 8035) and a rare single Cormorano (ZC 50180). For this CD re-release we were able to find the stereo master tapes from the original album and the complete master tapes from the original recording sessions which include both stereo and mono mixes. In addition to the 12 stereo tracks on the album, we have added nine alternate tracks in stereo and five alternate tracks in mono. This OST is dominated by the fun pop-sounding song in the opening credits called "Orza qui poggia lì," performed by Paolo Ferrara and accompanied by the chorus of Nora Orlandi. For the LP version we brought back the 1971 LP with the addition of the English version of "Orza qui poggia lì' as well as the film version of the track "In the Caribbean" and two alternative versions on side B.

The deliciously synthy sounds of both Smash Hit and PinOut are packed into this double LP, representing the breadth of composer Douglas Holmquist's musical vision for two of the best-selling mobile games of all-time. His feat was immense - crafting music for games that are essentially, limitless experiences - which is exactly why these albums fare so well as living room ambience, serving as the perfect soundtracks to a lazy afternoon or sexy weekend eve. Soothing and futuristically fine tuned, this pairing is absolutely dope.

At age 78, Joe McPhee shows no sign of slowing down. Plan B is the master improviser's new trio, with James Keepnews on guitar & laptop and David Berger on drums. A soundtrack to a science fiction movie existing only in their heads, From Outer Space finds McPhee and company envisioning the first encounter between alien life and a delegation of earthlings (while giving a nod to jazz's original man from another planet, Sun Ra, with a side-long suite dedicated to him). It's quite unlike anything else in McPhee's vast discography.

Mondo is proud to present the premiere vinyl release of the soundtrack and score to Paul Thomas Anderson's MAGNOLIA as a three LP set.

MAGNOLIA is an epic of interconnected stories about love and loss, abuse and forgiveness, over the course of a seemingly normal day in Los Angeles, coming together in a stormy, emotional conclusion that is still as shocking and effective today as it was 18 years ago.

Following his breakout film BOOGIE NIGHTS, a film full of period accurate needle drops (and a fairly popular soundtrack album), Anderson took a much different approach with MAGNOLIA. He brought in musician Jon Brion - who would go on to compose PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE - to pen his first solo film score, and worked with singer/songwriter Aimee Mann to craft original songs based on the film's script, eventually incorporating some of her lyrics into the dialogue in the script.

The soundtrack helped amplify Aimee Mann's solo career, she self-released her essential album "Bachelor No. 2 or, the Last Remains of the Dodo" shortly after the release of this film, and was finally able to break away from major label ties. Similarly Jon Brion quickly became a film composition staple shortly after MAGNOLIA's release. After PUNCH-DRUNK, he composed the scores to ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and I HEART HUCKABEES. Both Aimee and Jon's contributions elevate the already unique three hour ensemble drama to a dark, modern take on a classic film musical.

Available for the first time in a single release - and also for the first time on vinyl - the soundtrack and score to MAGNOLIA is spread across three LPs (Disc One: Songs by Aimee Mann, Discs Two and Three: Score by Jon Brion). Featuring stunning new artwork from João Ruas and pressed on 180 gram Black vinyl.

A journey inside the Sicilian chromosome of jazz, forgotten by the official history, the incredible story of a Sicilian who became the world's first man in Jazz.

Sicily Jass - The world's first man in Jazz is a film directed by Michele Cinque, about the life, the music and times of Nick La Rocca, a son of Sicilian immigrants, a self taught cornet player and leader of the Original Dixieland Jass band, the New Orleans based combo which eventually recorded the first Jazz record, in New York, in 1917.

Moving between fiction and documentary, while travelling from a timeless Sicily through New Orleans past and present, the film follows the infectious rhythms of early Jazz and goes deep into an introspective journey narrated by the voice, the gestures and the puppets of Sicilian master Mimmo Cuticchio.

Thanks to the special contribution of historians and Jazz critics and along with the discovery of precious archive materials, the film will give the audience the chance to re-live both the incredible success and the sad decline of La Rocca and his fellow musicians. The voice of Nick La Rocca himself, caught in a hitherto unpublished interview, together with the intimacy of the tale of Nick's son, Jimmy, will lead the viewer to discover why La Rocca and his men are often forgotten within the official history of jazz.

Needless to add that Sicily Jass comes with an amazing soundtrack, curated by Mark Berenford and carefully remastered by Nick Dellow. The accompanying CD features the ODJB's historical 1917 recordings, along with a selection of extra tracks by illustrious contemporaries such as Louis Armstrong, Joe Venuti, Bix Beiderbeck, Fletcher Henderson and others, amazing recordings from the beginning of jazz, over 100 years old. Mark Berenford who also curated the extensive liner notes, is considered one of the most respected experts and most passionate collectors of early Jazz and Blues. Since 1990, Mr. Berenford has been the editor of Vintage Jazz Mart, the world's leading means for buying and selling rare Jazz and Blues 78's.
