Having spent the last year relentlessly gigging in and around the capital, packing out venues and being heavily championed by Radio X & BBC Introducing, Dolls have spent the summer working with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds / Grinderman drummer Jim Sclavunos on their new 'Pop The Bubble EP'.

The 2-piece, comprising Jade (guitar and vocals) and Bel (drums and vocals), can today reveal lead single 'Sugar Free'. A riotous example of their infectious grunge-punk, it's a song on the bands views about 'the use-and-throwaway society around us today, how superficial people's lives can be, and how rapidly people's values and what's on-trend can change'

Drummer Bel goes on to further explain, 'It was a spontaneous song that came out of Jade's improvised guitar riff. When we were writing lyrics I had a sugar free drink and started thinking how people can get so pissed off when they ask for diet coke and get regular. So it represents those kind of first world problems & concerns about how our worst nightmare could be something so shallow that it's just ridiculous'.

The 'Pop The Bubble EP', set for release in September 2018, marked the first time the band have worked with producer Jim Sclavunos whose production credits include The Horrors, The Wytches and Fat White Family. The result is 4 garage-pop anthems with as much sass as they have bite. Duel vocals bounce off each other effortlessly; capturing some of the awesome chemistry these two bring to their raucous live performances.

Few producers can capture atmospheres and moods like Heinrich Dressel. The Minimal Rome boss left jaws on the floor with his first appearance on Bordello A Parigi, The House of the Rising Synth demonstrating the breadth of this Italian musician's sound. Now Dressel returns, this time with a full eight tracks for Lost in the Woodland. In this analogue forest anything is possible. From the whimsical resonance of the title piece, a sonic pathway through a verdant soundscape is laid. Gentle melodies caress and embrace before the road bends into shadows filled with dramatic twists and unseen dangers. Romantic moments are juxtaposed by triumphal chords and daring drums signalling immediate panic or outright victory. This is a woodland of divergent emotions, one where sounds give way to feelings and where Heinrich Dressel is the piper leading his followers through what can only be described as an unforgettable journey.

When the new Halloween movie hits theaters in October 2018, it will have the distinction of being the first film in the series with creator John Carpenter's direct involvement since 1982's Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Carpenter serves on the new David Gordon Green-directed installment as an executive producer, a creative consultant, and, thrillingly, as a soundtrack composer, alongside his collaborators from his three recent solo albums, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies.

The new soundtrack pays homage to the classic Halloween score that Carpenter composed and recorded in 1978, when he forever changed the course of horror cinema and synthesizer music with his low-budget masterpiece. Several new versions of the iconic main theme serve as the pulse of Green's film, its familiar 5/4 refrain stabbing through the soundtrack like the Shape's knife. The rest of the soundtrack is just as enthralling, incorporating everything from atmospheric synth whooshes to eerie piano-driven pieces to skittering electronic percussion. While the new score was made with a few more resources than Carpenter's famously shoestring original, its musical spirit was preserved.

The Iranian German composer Ramin Djawadi created the musical pieces to the multiple award winning series Westworld. His musical craft can be heard in his demonstration of great versatility by alternating between aggressive action and intimate drama. Djawadi's score evokes a sense of mystery while balancing the Western and electric elements of the series. With the introduction of the The Raj and Shogunworld he made some new versions of popular songs. 'Paint it Black' (The Rolling Stones), which already features in the first season, gets a total makeover with shakuhachi and taiko drums. He chose the same song to show the parallel world and parallel actions of season 2. Besides the haunting and uplifting main title composition by Ramin, he also composed impressive covers of 'Seven Nation Army' (The White Stripes), 'Heart-Shaped Box' (Nirvana) and 'Runaway' (Kanye West). The themes are all related to the different characters and worlds in the series, creating the different emotions and beautiful landscapes.

Westworld Season 2 is available as a limited edition of 2.000 numbered copies on shogun green coloured vinyl.

Perfect 'noir jazz style' soundtrack composed by the Maestro Ennio Morricone for the 1966 Italian crime thriller 'Svegliati e Uccidi' (aka 'Too Soon To Die') directed by the well-known Carlo Lizzani (who first gained notoriety working on such Italian neorealist classics as Rossellini's 'Germany Year Zero' and De Santis's 'Bitter Rice') and starring Robert Hoffman and Gian Maria Volonté. Dark and powerful, this is one of the best of Morricone's crime thriller scores of the period, which should appeal to fans of celebrated scores like Città Violenta and Revolver.

It pleases me no end to introduce this genuinely brilliant compilation to you courtesy of new French label ERR REC. It's an evocative, funky, charming and hugely satisfying listen that takes in various moods and genres all lovingly produced on vintage gear by 9 musicians from the French indie scene under different pseudonyms. It's my guess that only hardcore Francophiles are likely to be aware of (m)any of them but regardless of that if you're a fan of synths, soundtracks & library music this could well be up there with your albums of the year.

Alas, for now, this LP is limited to the ludicrously low amount of 50 copies so we won't have any of them for very long. Also the price of this edition is reflected in the risograph machine-printed sleeve, making it very collectable. Listen and love...

Breaking Bad is an American neo-western crime drama television series created and produced by Vince Gilligan. The show originally aired on the AMC network for five seasons, from January 20, 2008 to September 29, 2013. The series tells the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling and depressed high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with lung cancer. One Way Static Records proudly presents: Umberto Lenzi's 'CANNIBAL FEROX aka MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY' (Original 1981 Motion Picture Soundtrack by ROBERTO DONATI).



Maestro Roberto Donati was born and raised in Italy and as a guitarist/singer he ended up forming a wide variety of bands playing a broad spectrum of musical genres like Rock, Pop, R&B and Country & Western. Many of his songs were recorded as singles on the 'Belldisc' label in the late sixties and seventies. With all this experience under his belt Mr. Donati then devoted himself to the composition of soundtracks. These were all recorded under the pseudonym 'Budy' and were often collaborations with Maria Fiamma Maglione (who sadly passed away from cancer in 2003) thus the name 'Budy Maglione' was born.



Working with different directors (including legendary director Umberto Lenzi) he has written music for films in various genres including Italian comedy, erotic, western & horror. Highlights include "EMANUELLE e LOLITA' (1978), "EATEN ALIVE' (1980), "CANNIBAL FEROX' (1981) and 'DAUGHTER OF THE JUNGLE' (1982).



Just like his contemporaries 'Fabio Frizzi' and 'Riz Ortolani', Roberto Donati was an established player in the Italian soundtrack scene...the most fame he received was probably for his soundtrack to Umberto Lenzi's exploitation shocker 'CANNIBAL FEROX' (better known in the States as 'MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY') a notorious video nasty, labeled as 'The Most Violent movie ever made' that was banned or severely cut in 31 countries.



Umberto Lenzi's 1981 Cannibal Ferox is often described as one of horror filmdom's golden grails of soundtrack albums and holds its place between other contemporary classics like Cannibal Holocaust & The Beyond. Eli Roth described it as 'powerful tribal, pounding stuff' and served as an inspiration when editing his new movie 'The Green Inferno' (which is an homage to the Cannibal film genre).



Like many of the Italian cannibal films, the soundtrack is just as powerful and effective as the disturbing butchery. The use of funk guitar, bass, rock piano and synthesizer makes for a fun yet still powerful sound. It's 70s recklessness with an 80s sensibility, perfect for a film that rides the line between two decades. Recorded on a budget of nine musicians (after being told the plans for a full orchestra had to be scrapped due to director Tony Scott going over budget), Hans Zimmer's True Romance score features percussion instruments xylophones and marimbas to create innocent noise, a reflection of the lead characters - Alabama + Clarence Worley - in the violently dark comedy written by Quentin Tarantino.

Unreleased baroque jazz horror score to controversial lesbian sex cult witchcraft exploitation drama from 1973, composed by the man who wrote the Catweazle theme! Hell yeah!

HISTORY:
Ted Dicks is not that well known as a composer these days, but back in the mid 1960s he was composing library music as well penning some of the greatest comedy songs of the era, including 'Hole In The Ground' and 'Right Said Fred'. His work was performed by Kenneth Williams, Petula Clarke, Bernard Cribbins, Topol and more. But until now, little has been known of his brief flirtation with film music.

Virgin Witch was his first brush with film scoring - one of only two score he wrote. The film was produced by legendary wrestling commentator Ken Walton (under his Sexploitation pseudonym of 'Ralph Solomans'), with the help of Hazel Adair, a woman famed for co-creating the long running UK TV soap Crossroads. Virgin Witch was a racey film, turned down at least once for certification by the BBFC, passed uncut with an X for release just in London, then cut and passed for general release shortly afterwards.

The score itself is a unique and quite beautiful pop baroque work, utilizing the cimbalom, an instrument more than likely played here by 'Ipcress file' musician John Leach.

This is a very limited release of a most unique 1970s pop horror lesbian witch score. Get it before they are all sold and you start moaning you didn't order it in time.
