STEVEN TROCH BAND - RHYMES FOR MELLOW MINDS

Steven Troch proudly presents his new album Rhymes For Mellow Minds. From start to finish, the new album is a music lover's delight. An eclectic collection of original compositions by the Belgian harp maestro Steven Troch and his band. This album covers a remarkable range of musical styles - from swingin' jazz to moody rumbas, dance-floor-worthy shuffles to rollickin' country blues stomps, hard-rockin' shuffles to gospel infused chants. Little Steve' Van Der Nat is a killer guitarplayer and nails it on every track. Miss Liesbeth Sprangers keeps a steady pace on her powerhouse bass and no-nonsense drummer King Berik beats his drums like a madman.
The songs lead you along a poorly lit blues path, past lost souls, nameless faces and even pass a galaxy, very, very far away and are inhabited by purely fictional characters like the drunken low-life staring at the neon-lit hookers, the old hermit who lives on top of the hill and the pretty girl who's boyfriend looks like Woody Allen.
Rhymes For Mellow Minds is an innovative album revealing that there's more than one side to the Steven Troch Band

Mit der Sugarhill Gang hat Skip McDonald Musikgeschichte geschrieben, als Little Axe hat er dem Blues ein
neues, grooviges Gesicht gegeben. "London Blues" ist sein achtes Album. Wie gewohnt standen ihm mit
Mark Stewart (The Pop Group, The Maffia), Doug Wimbish (Living Colour), Keith LeBlanc und Perry Melius

1966's seminal Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton marked John Mayall's emergence as a major recording artist, as well as his commercial breakthrough. The 12-song LP, considered by many to be the most influential British blues album of all time, marked the official introduction of Mayall's long-running, ever-evolving combo the Bluesbreakers. Mayall shares the spotlight here with soon-to-be-superstar guitarist Eric Clapton (who quit the Yardbirds in order to pursue his blues muse with Mayall), along with future Fleetwood Mac co-founder John McVie on bass and Hughie Flint on drums. Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton is generally acknowledged as a musical milestone for Clapton, his scorching playing and over-the-top tone dominates the entire album. With the group's punchy performances captured in straightforward style by noted producer Mike Vernon, the album offers a potent combination of Mayall originals and distinctive interpretations of songs by Ray Charles, Freddie King, Little Walter and Otis Rush.

John Mayall With Eric Clapton - Blues Breakers

weg von seinem geliebten Blues. Als Ergebnis wurde Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton zu einem Eckpfeiler der Blues-Rock-Szene der Mitte der 60er Jahre, angefangen beim ikonischen Cover (ein desinteressierter Clapton, der das Comic-Magazin The Beano liest);

One of the most influential artists from the southern parts of the United States is undoubtedly Leadbelly. Gifted with the ability to write thought provoking lyrics, he became a true master of the folk and blues scene. More than just a musician, Leadbelly was a force of nature. And one of his songs sparked a revolution when Lonnie Donegan's 1956 hit Rock Island Line inspired not just The Beatles, but pretty well every fledgling Brit rock & roller with a new type of music called skiffle.

Blues In A Bottle... One of the most prolific of bluesmen, Sam 'Lightnin' Hopkins was equally one of the most revered - a musician who delivered a highly personalised line in country blues, but could also run a line in electric guitar boogie that made him a jukebox favourite. Recorded in Houston during July 1961, Blues In My Bottle is a fine example of Hopkins' storytelling skills and his unlimited ability to shape the blues in all its various forms.

Muddy Waters grew up to be the undisputed Father of post-World War II Chicago blues. He excelled as a recording artist, bandleader, songwriter and showman, and enjoyed a career long enough to inspire several generations of musicians to follow in his footsteps. He was the link between old and new blues, rural and urban, even black and white, and his role in the music's development was crucial. The real proof is here in this LP set that contains all the tracks that won Muddy Waters legendary status. These classics remain as fresh and vital today as when they were cut. If they don't get your mojo working, check your pulse...

Laurence is often labelled as the future of the blues.' He's won several major awards and accolades, and has sold over 50,000 albums across four albums. He's supported the likes of Status Quo, Gary Clark Jr, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, James Bay, Van Morrison, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Joe Bonamassa Jools Holland, Eric Burdon, and many more.

Hailed as one to watch' by all corners of the music industry, including press, concert and festival booking agents, blues fans and various musicians. Over the past five years, Laurence has really come into his own, and with his new album The Truth, he has now developing his own creative skin by writing and performing songs that are distinctive to his unique sound and identity.

Says Laurence, The direction of this album is one I have always wanted to take and that's crossover blues, just like my heroes John Mayer, Eric Clapton and even Jimi Hendrix. They managed to really bring the sound of the blues to the masses. This is definitely my favourite album that I have made to date. I can't wait for people to hear The Truth.'

Laurence recorded the new album at the old Sony Studios in Miami. It proved to be an amazing opportunity when Top Stop Music, a Grammy award winning record label, signed Laurence and proposed that he record the album in Florida. The studio has so much history,' says Laurence. It has always been a dream of mine to record in America and I wanted this album to have that USA magic that a lot of my favorite records have.'

The Truth was produced by Gregory Elias the owner of the record label. Laurence and his band had three weeks of pre-production in Curacao, a Dutch island in the Caribbean in January 2017. Gregory gave Laurence the freedom as an artist to go in the direction that he wanted to.

The new album is about the truth,' says Laurence. Everybody is searching for the truth and for answers. Some people never find it and some people can see a clear vision. Then others stop searching just as they're about to discover the answer. This concept lead me to write a crossover album reflecting on love, life and the reality of what is happening in today's world.'

Bring 'Em In is the 13th studio album by blues musician Buddy Guy, originally released in 2005. The album is made up almost entirely of songs covered by Buddy Guy and features renditions of songs written by artists from Bob Dylan to Otis Redding. The album contains one original composition by Buddy, What Kind of Woman Is This'.

Bring 'Em In features a number of collaborations with other artists including: Carlos Santana (guitar), Tracy Chapman (vocals), John Mayer (guitar), Keb' Mo' (guitar), Anthony Hamilton (vocals), Robert Randolph (pedal steel), and Keith Richards (guitar). The album sounds slightly more poppy, but Buddy says he put his bluesy signature on each song,

Blues is like American Express. I don't leave home without it.'

Buddy's recent divorce is weighing on his mind, if Somebody's Been Sleeping in My Bed' and Now You're Gone' are to be believed. Bring 'Em In contains the best improvisational and melodic guitar since his '60s hallmark A Man and the Blues. He gunfights with Carlos Santana on I Put a Spell on You' and teams with John Mayer on I've Got Dreams to Remember.' Guy trades vocals with Tracy Chapman on the Bill Withers classic Ain't No Sunshine,' and Robert Randolph and Keith Richards are slight on Lay Lady Lay' and The Price You Gotta Pay,' respectively. Guy channels enough raw, emotional sensitivity to make the classic songs sound like they're pumping fresh blood.

Bring 'Em In is now finally available on vinyl for the first time. This 2LP gatefold package includes an 4 page insert.

Lee Dorsey († December 1, 1986) began his career as a lightweight boxer in the early 1950s and moved on to become an influential African American pop and R&B singer during the 1960s.

His successful period began when he met songwriter and record producer Allen Toussaint with whom he recorded several songs like Ya Ya', Working In The Coalmine', Ride Your Pony' and many more which all charted in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

In 1970 Dorsey recorded the Yes We Can album again with Allen Toussaint together with the support band The Meters. Several of the songs were covered by major artists who scored hits with them later that decade, Yes We Can' by The Pointer Sisters and Sneakin' Sally Thru The Alley' by Robert Palmer. The other songs are straight up funky tracks and have a variety of styles and sounds. Included are the protest soul recording Who's Gonna' Help Brother Get Further' and the somewhat hilarious comedy song Would You'. All in all it stands as a great soul album for that time.

The Music On Vinyl edition is pressed on green vinyl and is available in a limited run of 1.000 individually numbered copies, including an insert with song lyrics.

On 2nd March 2018 Ginger Wildheart is to release his new album, the aptly titled 'Ghost In The Tanglewood'. A seamless mix of country, folk, roots and rock, the record showcases Ginger's song writing maturity as he wears his heart and influences on his sleeve over 13 deeply personal tracks, channelling his emotions and pouring his soul into every note. Influenced by the likes of Steve Earle, Maria McKee, Tom Waits and Richard Thompson, this is Ginger's music on the mellow side, roots music played by a working class Geordie raised on country and Northern folk music.

While leaning towards country music, my fairly unavoidable accent means that the songs come off less Willie Nelson and more Bobby Thompson, but every lyric is purely heartfelt and every song is as true a story as you'll ever hear. This stuff has always been in my blood since I was a wee nipper and it's an honour to finally get it out for people to hear' says Ginger.

The songs largely deal with the traditionally taboo subject of mental health issues, specifically depression, which I have suffered from my whole life. Having recently weaned myself off medication, the music I make now serves as both therapy and comfort. I find relief in this music and hope that the songs bring a similar comfort to the listener. The narrative throughout is pretty confessional in nature, but I think the candid approach showcases the lyrics in a more bold and open way than a traditional rock album.'

Opening with the rousing 'The Daylight Hotel', which was written while receiving treatment in a mental hospital and is a peak into that world and the kind of people that reside within its walls, the album ranges from the beautiful country sounds of 'Don't Say Goodbye' to the folk of 'Golden Tears' (a melancholic but uplifting song about the inner strength we somehow summon to fight adversity), the torchlight closer 'Remains' and 'I Could Have Cared For You', which recalls Paul Westberg at his best.

Recorded in John Kettle's Giraffe Studios in Wigan, 'Ghost In The Tanglewood' was produced by John Kettle and Dave Draper and features an all new gang of seasoned musicians that Ginger handpicked for their feel and experience. The players are Maurice Hipkiss - pedal steel, Emily Ewing - vocals, Matthew Colley - piano, Neil McCartney - fiddle and John Kettle - guitar and mandolin.

'Ghost In The Tanglewood' began life as a Pledge campaign, with profits donated to The Samaritans, with the main cause being suicide prevention. I shouldn't need to explain how very important it is to make people aware of mental health issues and suicide prevention, but this is a subject that can never be talked about enough' says Ginger. Speaking out about mental illness is currently our strongest weapon in the war against suicide. • B5: Don't Say Goodbye

We still live in an age where governments and communities continue to largely ignore this problem, so anything that highlights this issue is a step in the right direction. I hope I can do more to raise awareness and be a small part of the change in attitude that is needed in regards to this issue.'

Following stints with Modern and Chess, legendary blues man John Lee Hooker joined forces with the esteemed Vee-Jay label out of Chicago in 1955. For the next 7 years Hooker cut some of the most explosive and legendary blues sides of his career and solidified his position as one of the greatest performers of the electric blues era. By the 1960s the folk and blues revival would make international stars of many blues performers but at the time of these Vee-Jay recordings this was music made by African-Americans mostly for the African-American market, from Chicago to the South to Los Angeles and New York and points between, and Vee-Jay was one of the first and most successful African-American owned record labels. While many of his earlier sides featured only Hooker on guitar and vocals, his Vee-Jay sides feature a full rocking rhythm section. Essential sides from one of the all-time greatest American performers of the 20th century. This first volume spans the years 1955-1958, and includes the titular Mambo Chillun' a play on his classic hit, Boogie Chillun', as well as 16 more great late 50s blues sides.

A collection of some of the finest moments of the only two known recording sessions by the King of Delta Blues, Robert Johnson, made in Dallas and San Antonio in 1936 and 1937. A man whose poorly documented life and death at 27 have given rise to much legend in the last 75+ years, Johnson had little or none public recognition for his work in his lifetime. Rumored to have sold his soul at the crossroads to achieve success, Robert Johnson lived his whole life playing at street corners and Saturday night dances, writing the soundtrack for half a century of rock culture to come. Featuring all-time classics such as Crossroad Blues', Love In Vain', and Phongraph Blues', this is mandatory for all early folk and blues aficionados!

Beyond the classic sides that were released on 78 rpm at the time, there were numerous unreleased outtakes and alternate recordings that went uncovered for decades after their recording. Collected here are 12 alternate takes including essentials like "Crossroad Blues", Drunken Hearted Man", "Ramblin' On My Mind", and more. Essential and rare Robert Johnson sides back in print on Wax Love.

1967's I Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die, the second album from Bay Area psych-rock band Country Joe & The Fish, followed hot on the heels of their breakout debut from earlier the same year, but it represented a major step forward in both material and overall sound achieved by Vanguard Records' producer Sam Charters. Accessible and very much in tune with the alternative culture of the mid-60s, it quickly became one of the cornerstone releases of the new 'psychedelic rock' explosion. The album is opened and anchored by the live standard "The Fish Cheer" and famous anti-Vietnam protest song "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag."

Kostas Dousas - Kostas Dousas: Greek Blues In America, Vol. 2

Death Is Not The End present a two-part collection centred on two emigrant Greek artists recorded in New York during the 1920s and 1930s.

'Greek Blues in America' explores the recordings of George Katsaros and Kostas Dousas, who mainly recorded solo, accompanying themselves on guitar in a unique finger-picking style. This, along with the sub-cultural subject matter of the rebetiko, reflects somewhat of a cross-continental echo of the American blues - captured in the USA following a wave of immigration from Greece and Asia Minor, just as the new demand for regional and ethnographic music in the recording industry was beginning.

Roy Harper's first solo album was originally released in 1966, The Sophisticated Beggar, and by 1970 he had met up with Pink Floyd manager Peter Jenner and re-released his debut as Return Of The Sophisticated Beggar.

Roy Harper's music can be best defined as progressive folk, but as his work is so varied there are many instances where his music transgressed these genre confinements.

He worked alongside greats like Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, The Nice, Kate Bush and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Roy Harper is also recognized for his vocal contribution on Have A Cigar', the third track on Pink Floyd's 1975 album Wish You Were Here.

Bättre Lyss - Till Den Sträng Som Brast Än Att Aldrig Spänna En Bage

First ever reissue of this rare Swedish psychedelic hard-rock & progressive album from 1975. Powerful guitar / organ and great melodic vocals, featuring ex-LIFE member Anders Nordh on guitar.

The Bättre Lyss project was born during 1973-74, when mutual friends Rolf Hammarlund (vocals, bass) and Christer Palmquist (vocals, acoustic guitars, piano) started to write songs sung in English. Soon after, the lyrics were changed to Swedish and another friend, drummer & songwritter Rolf Johansson joined in. That's when they decided to record an album. Helped by some talented friends, including THREE electric guitar players (among them Anders Nordh of LIFE fame) and a flute / sax player plus an organist, they registered Till Den Sträng...' on a 2-track machine at a state-of-the art studio. The result was stunning and was released as a private pressing in 1975.

Sweet Tea is the 11th studio album by American blues artist Buddy Guy. The album was released in 2001 and was nominated for 2001 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.

A desperate, impoverished young musician moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1957 and brought a piece of Lettsworth, Louisiana with him. Now Sweet Tea brings Buddy Guy back home — and the North Mississippi sound fits him sharp as a tailored silk suit, natural as a pair of worn overalls.

Very few artists have attempted, or succeeded, in improving the standard template for classic blues records set some 50 years ago in the golden age of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. On Sweet Tea, Buddy Guy looks to the same source for inspiration, seven of the nine songs here are written by Fat Possum's hill-country blues roster, including T-Model Ford and Junior Kimbrough. Working with producer Dennis Herring (Counting Crows, Jars of Clay) and a small collective of Mississippi-based musicians, Guy sings with a passion that can only come from the same source as the songs.

The noise generated in the studio through vintage amplifiers has a live and dangerous feel to it. The acoustic opener, Done Got Old,' does not prepare the listener for the colossal aural assault of Baby, Please Don't Leave Me.' Fading in on a percussion track, Guy's guitar hits its cat-strangling best and never looks back, while the voice sounds energized, vital, and wholly contemporary. Through the 12-minute I Got to Try It, Girl' to the closing Guy composition It's a Jungle Out There,' Sweet Tea has all the hallmarks of a classic blues album, mixed with a twist of the new. Grammy nominated Sweet Tea is now finally available on vinyl for the first time. This 2LP gatefold package includes an insert.

Well before Shuggie Otis (Born Johnny Alexander Veliotes, Jr.) cut his debut album, musicianship and performance had long been a part of his life. The son of rhythm and blues legend Johnny Otis, Shuggie learned to play guitar as early as the age of two, and performed professionally with his father's band at eleven. Throughout his long and illustrious career he'd performed on records for the likes of Frank Zappa, Al Kooper, Etta James, and George Duke, to name a few. In spite of all this, widespread mainstream success eluded Shuggie for much of his early career, though he'd later pen the Brothers Johnson hit "Strawberry Letter 23". Despite never managing a great amount of commercial success upon its release, Shuggie Otis' third album Inspiration/Information was a critical smash decades after its release, and has maintained a level of cult status normally reserved for mysterious, unearthed legends like Sixto Rodriguez or Lee Fields. Inspiration/Information was noteworthy among Shuggie's other releases, as it was the only one produced entirely by himself, as opposed to his father Johnny Otis. Shuggie's signature blend of baroque funk is on full display, but with a heavy dosage of psychedelic soul blended in, resulting in an album that's equally swarthy, lush, funky, and emotional. Gathering all the best bits of Marvin Gaye, Love, Miles Davis, and even Os Mutantes, Inspiration/Information is more than worthy of acclaim awarded to it.
