Big Bill Broonzy experience more in his 55 years on this planet than most. Before his recording career began in Chicago in the 1920s he had already been married, worked as a sharecropper, a Pullman porter, a cook, and served for two years in World War I. After cutting some of the most legendary blues 78s in the '20s and '30s, Despite some success Broonzy still had to work odd jobs through most of the '40s to survive and by the time the folk revival and Pete Seeger found him, he only had a few years left. This collection documents those final years, from 1951 to 1958, where Broonzy was touring Europe and finally receiving some of the worldwide acclaim he had long deserved. Though these recordings come at the end of his life, his guitar skill is honed and his voice like a fine aged whiskey. Another incredible collection of American blues from Wax Love.

Son House is one of the most legendary Southern blues men in history. Just before the Great Depression he recorded some sessions for Paramount that sold very little and when the Depression hit, his recording career was halted. It wasn't until the Library of Congress and Fisk University recorded him at Klack's Store, Lake Cormorant, Mississippi, in August 1941. and again in July of 1942 at Robbinsonville, Mississippi. Those recordings have come to define his career and are a hallmark of the blues genre. Wax Love presents a glorious retrospective compilation of those recordings, with some of his most well known tunes like "Shetland Pony Blues", "Low Down Dirty Dog Blues", and "Walking Blues." Though released in 1959, The House Of The Blues collects John Lee Hooker's early 1950s shellac singles for the legendary Chicago blues label Chess Records. Born sometime in the 1910s or early 1920s in rural Mississippi, Hooker moved to Detroit in 1943 to work at the Ford Motor Company and soon began frequenting the city's blues clubs. Hooker recorded for many labels throughout the 1950s but it was with Chess that he cut his most memorable and famous sides. This album is the beginning of that fruitful relationship and features simply Hooker's beautiful blues vocals, raw guitar playing, and foot stomping to keep the beat. On October 10, 2010, Solomon Burke passed away at Amsterdam Schiphol airport on his way to perform a gig with his Dutch collaborators De Dijk. What was supposed to be a release party for their album Hold On Tight then became a celebration of the life of the one true King of Rock 'n Soul.

De Dijk, heroes of the Dutch music scene, and Solomon met and shared the stage while on tour in 2007, and they came up with the idea to record an album together. King Solomon was true to his word, De Dijk adapted a number of songs from their back catalogue for Solomon to sing, and they dove into the studio for what sadly turned out to be Solomon's last album.

De Dijk's bluesy spin on soulful hard rock turned out to be a sweet musical match with Burke's powerful vocals, Hold On Tight is one of the truest Rock & Roll projects he worked on. As allmusic com puts it: 'an impressive finale to a genuinely remarkable career'. The album features a contribution of Jools Holland on piano on "What A Woman".

Wolf was a giant in more ways than one. At 6ft 3inches tall and weighing nearly 300 lbs in his prime, he was an imposing figure. But he was also a titan in terms of the blues, possessing a voice that sounded as if he gargled each morning on a glass filled with barbed wire. "Smokestack Lightnin'" is probably the most covered and "How Many More Years" was the first and most successful of four songs Wolf placed on the Billboard national R&B charts in the 1950s.
