Melbourne based Escape Artist has blessed us with a euphoria bursting EP for the 30th release on our main label series! For the past few years we have absolutely loved his genre fusing releases on labels such as Salt Mines and Kalahari Oyster Cult which wonderfully slip between Breakbeat, Techno, House and Jungle. For the “Energy Breakthrough” EP, the focus is primed straight for the lasers, with three blissfully exhilarating and ecstasy inducing original tracks, alongside a remix from one of our favourite up and coming producers, Adam Pits.

The EP begins with the title track which combines old school house piano stabs at the start that evolve into a soothing pad progression and a super saw breakdown that takes you straight to Amnesia circa 1998. Opting for a more broken drum beat, the track floats effortlessly like a night time motorway drive. For the remix, Adam Pits lifts it into the stratosphere, repurposing the bassline and slapping a thunderous 4x4 rhythm underneath. Invoking Sasha and Digweed at their absolute peak, the track fuses the classic sound of Progressive House and Trance with futuristic levels of energy. “Reach for the lasers” doesn't quite do it justice.

On the B1 is “The Dream We Share” that marries together chopped up funk breaks, plucky synth
melodies and uplifting 303 Acid squiggles with jubilant chords for an elated sonic journey. Rounding the release out is the stripped back and introspective “Breathing Room” that is a beautifully peaceful experience after the dance floor focus of the previous cuts. The refreshing aura of the track that harks to the golden age of 90s Chill-Out and Ambient Techno concludes the release in the best way possible.

GLOR1A and the Yokai the Deity remix for SHOUTS 2021 is rooted in FDM, a dance movement in NYC started from Jamaican culture. James Massiah whose stunning spoken word opens the compilation. Sami who also co-creates NPR’s Code Switch podcast. As well as Klein Zage, Adam Pits, Pookie, and too many more to mention.

London-based producer, DJ, and promoter Saoirse announces the launch of her own imprint TRUST with her highly anticipated debut solo release.

TRUST 001 is a 4 track EP written by Saoirse with the concept to showcase what you can typically expect from her as a DJ - jumping through an array of dancefloor moments, a track for each common dancefloor feeling.

TRUST is one of the key foundations of safety, within yourself and with others. Vital for good health and happiness. The inception of TRUST records was finally being able to trust in one's own ability. Trust in music made for dancefloors. Trust in its simplicity yet importance. This label founded by Saoirse will be asking those who she trusts, herself, her friends and her most loved producers to join the label as collaborators and solo artists.

After a well received opening release from Luca Piermattei, Fresh Tunez have announced their second installment. At the controls this time they have DJ Gerald aka Himalaya Juice Culture, the “For President“ EP contains five tracks that meander through various dance floor influences, each of them providing a warm and enriched experience.

Diving in at the deep end is “M.RX7” a pacey and energetic quest, living up to the playful and animated ethos of the label, spacey synths circulate the belly of the track. The sleek and silky sounds of “Weakand” create an inviting atmosphere for the listener, as you become absorbed by the deep and emotional chords, and tight drum arrangements.

Riding a squiggling groove on the B side is “Stuva”, subtle acid tinges lace the track enabling it to heat up any given dancefloor. B2 “Yamaha” shows some real intelligent tenacity, and versatility in DJ Gerald’s sound. Melt in your mouth pads breathing life into the glitchy broken drums. A fitting end to the EP is “Hey Hey Stay One”, a two and a half minute trip of unique and blissful textures to ease you out of the release.

The System Error brand continues to shine in recent times with a slew of high quality and sought after releases under their belt, showing no signs of slowing down over the next period, with TUNEZ002 being a fantastic addition to the refined catalogue.

In pairing words with art, the ESP Institute often does everything journalists hate. We drown the reader in hyperbole, abstractions as opposed to didactic or literal depictions, and paint the press release with superlatives that construct an existential struggle around the art and its conditions. To articulate our reasoning behind collaborating with the artist, or the synergy between their work and our catalogue, is sometimes so challenging that crossing that finish line is achingly delayed. Patrick Conway’s 2xLP 'Cellular Housekeeping', his fourth release with the label, is one of these works so monumentally exciting for us that we’ve strained over how to deliver with honor his art unto the masses. After the initial hurdle of visual representation (in this case handled with gusto by artist Hassan Rahim), how do we directly and intentionally talk about the art we deeply love, when in reality we’re largely guided by instinct? We explore many angles, often failing along the way, until finding a final click in the combination that unlocks the floodgates. With Patrick’s album, that elusive impetus revealed itself in a literary gem that both symbolized his aggressive, melancholic, romantic, and bleak overtones, as well as synchronized his work and our task with a metaphor so grand it justified putting these words to paper. In the deeply British poem of despair and hope, 'Comus: A Mask Presented at Ludlow Castle', John Milton immortalized the classic idiom of the “silver lining”, and we find comfort in this transaction between struggle and what the poet considered divine intervention. Our bout of procrastination that brewed a cloud over the art may too tout a silver lining, the time that’s elapsed clearing a path for the album to exist in its rightful place, as opposed to fighting for a voice at an overcrowded table. In hindsight, this final hurdle might have only existed because without it, there is no glory, no resolution, but as all the pieces click and we collectively cross the finish line, Patrick Conway’s once captive 'Cellular Housekeeping' is now truly released.

The A side and first single from the EP, “Spotless Hero,” personifies elegance and sophistication as demonstrated with Glenn Underground tickling the ivory on piano. The track is further undergirded by Quincy’s poly-rhythmic drum programming, which drives the track in a pocket reminiscent of his father’s seminal Sentimental Journey track from 98. The B side, “One Eyed Monster,” flips the script completely. It’s a return to sleaze with a driving acid track, that builds this gem to a fever pitch. Fans of Larry Heard, Anthony Nicholson more abstract work will savor this composition.

With its 3rd release on the ERROR100 Series, System Error showcases Italian producer Otis, who delicately produced 5 club orientated tracks pulling influences from acid to trance, yet preserving a strong sBerlin based label System Error ignite their 2021 with further mind stretching material, this time they call on Otis to take on the role of master of operations. The “Cocoon Of Fantasies & Illusions” EP meanders across five tracks, touching on refined strains of techno, electro and breaks built for the rave.

“Taking Control” is built to take command of a club space, all of the elements working in harmony, to make a well rounded intergalactic trip. Straight Electro flow in “Just A Game” laden with acid squelches, the title of the track rocking back and forth via a mysterious vocal sample, a sense of nostalgia with elements from the past.

Opening the B side is “Inborn Archetype”, a chunky affair, jam packed with action. Huge drums ground the track as emphatic driving synths, and pads take the track to another level, ready to go to war. Riding an elastic sub heavy bass line is “Anima”, playful and curious. “Wreaks Havoc” is built around distinctive 90s breaks energy, with acid tones ricocheting from every surface. The shortest of the tracks but certainly packs a punch.

ERROR103 coming in strong, setting things up for what is set to be a prolific year for the System Error imprint, several releases already scoped out for the year, curated by known affiliates of the label, and some fresh names. Dance music from the future. System. Error. ense of house music.

The Colours That Rise return for a quick lap around Earth with this special offering , "Mixtape 1" - comprising of one brand new studio production and two new compositions recorded live from the mothership in 2020 AD.

The new record may be short but contains 3 very different moods guaranteed to take you away. Their Earth-based ally - Yussef Dayes, returns to the drumkit on "Special Request" for a slice of extra terrestrial, year 3000 funk.

“Axel G” see's the team speed things up for the imminent return of clubbing to Planet Earth. The pandemic didn't reach outer space, and the martian calendar has afforded The Colours That Rise ample time to test out and refine their club dynamics: think Afrika Bambaata meets Drexciya on Mars.

The EP is closed out with “Polo 1.2” - which sees a welcome return of Simeon Jones to vocal duties - pining for a return to his roots - "no matter which way we go". 21st Century Intergalactic home sick blues.

Whilst the debut release from DEFSET - the producer has spent many years experimenting with electronic music & equipment and the album demonstrates a mastery in using modular synthesizers and outboard gear to create a pallet of evolving melodies over syncopated, glitched out rhythms - resulting in a deeply accomplished sonic blend of immersive techno and atmospheric electronic music.

The album features singles including 'Deadlines' - a dark & brooding pitched down slice of menacing techno; the airy and light 'Shira2', a piece of dreamy electronica that dances over a shuffling backbeat; 'Bathtime' - a unique piece of slo-mo dub-techno featuring live bass and instrumentation inter-woven with trance-like vocals and the tough & atmospheric 'HoneySwede'.

The first release on Lapse Records welcomes DJ Gonzo & Dr. Yes, aka Klein / Melchner, and Sasha Zlykh for a four track Split EP. The label was recently created by Jessica, the now Berlin based DJ, co-founder of Headroom Festival, and founder at the female led music project Rhythm Sister.

Having previously collaborated as SYT for releases on Sabres of Paradise and also having had releases on Hard Hands, DJ Scott James and producer, writer and musician Chris Hayne teamed up once again forming Sound Virus to share their more esoteric dancefloor visions. 'Swirl' was originally appeared in 1995, a limited vinyl only release on their own imprint Lux Recordings,

First up 'Follow Your Feet' opens with haunting synths that lead into razor sharp percussion and a forceful b-line that drives the track to a mesmeric peak, whilst a repetitive vocoded vocal stirs the electro soul. 'Continuum' heads off into electo-tech territory, defty programmed breakbeats underpin the filthiest of bass lines making this track a true dancefloor devastator. 'Swirl' takes a deeper approach, with pumping bass and driving beats supporting lush chords and a subtle, chiming synth riff. EP closer 'Bossa Blue Dub' drops the tempo slightly for a more other-worldly chug, whilst remaining no less compelling.

This Burial Soil release is produced by label owner Ravn Jonassen
and it comes with remixes by Radioactive Man and DJ Frankie. It was
an advertisement of the UK government, suggesting a ballet dancer
called Fatima, should retrain in cyber security, that caught his
attention and initialized thoughts about the situation of artists during
and after the on-going pandemic. That's why he dedicated the title of
his EP to this fictional character, which stands for all artists, that are
left without much perspective or help or even any appreciation of
their government and the general public: „Fatima, The Struggle Is
Real!“ But in the end the message is clear, we will get through all this
misery, as long as we don’t give up. Artists where always a filter of
their environment and past has proven that it's been the tough times,
that pushed artists to reach their full-potential.

SUZI is the new label from Cleveland, the Brussels-based artist behind releases on Kalahari Oyster Cult, ESP Institute and Hivern Discs. The label’s inaugural release unites contributions of 4 artists, with a common ground of techy, playfully modern-sounding tracks with a serious edge and a decent amount of bleeps.


Psssh Records returns with the second instalment of a trilogy of releases from label owner Dauwd. The EP matches two original cuts from Dauwd with a remix from Optimo head honcho, JD Twitch. In keeping with the labels initial release this three tracker offers a plethora of sounds, from the dub tango of "La Nota" on the A side, to the proper dusty house business of "Steve" on the flip, with JD Twitch bringing the full rukus on the remix. A new label, run by an old head, Paul Wise aka Placid is the driving force behind ‘We’re Going Deep’. Known to many who inhabit the realms of underground House and Techno, the imprint sprang to life at the tail end of 2020 from his hugely popular Facebook community under the same banner.

Born out of a lifelong affair with the many shades of deep electronic rhythms, coupled with a thirst for collecting records since 1988, Paul’s mission is all about sharing and releasing new music for the dance floor, front room or even just your headphones. Rather than staying hung up on the past, his reputation for digging into the annals Acid, Electro, Techno, Deep House alongside the odd slice of Downtempo precedes him, as he readies the third WGD volume for release.

Bubbling up with another 4 track EP comprised of cuts from equally brilliant artists, the opening shots are fired on Side A with the unmistakeable sounds of Moy “Ouroboros”. A finely crafted slice of robotic acid funk entices you into the wilds and waves of moody 303 action as machines collide with precision accuracy. Bringing you back to a calmer vision and seas of tranquilty, Rekab aka James Baker’s “Summer Dreams” demonstrates just how blissful ambience and slowing the pace in these testing times can soothe the soul. Leading Side B, fans of Chi-town grooves will not be disappointed with Garrett David’s “Cruisin Through”. A Smart Bar resident and Gramaphone Records employee, he’s no stranger to sumptuous jackin’ edged house jams packed full of bouncing beats. Blending an irresistible rump funking groove to synth-led melodics that build and build, the total sum of these parts will not fail to get you out of your seat. Signing off in style, Moody Waters takes us into hypnotic house territory as low slung beatdown vibes meet mysterious atmospheres and vocal fx, emerging from the haze of that 5am smog that all too often glazes your inner mind.

Earlier in the year, we heaped tons of praise on the booming, breakbeat-driven first EP from Pilot, which showcased a quartet of killer cuts from Johannes Kolter. He returns to action on this EP, taking control of the B-side to offer-up the funky, sample-heavy electro/breaks fusion of 'B2R' (think Layo & Bushwacka's classic material and you're close) and the more spacey, electro-focused bubbliness of 'Systematic'. While they're both very good, we'd argue that North Phase's A-side tracks are even better. Choose between the dubby and hypnotic breakbeat-house roll of 'Feel It', and 'Escape From Planet X', a deeper, more bass-heavy chunk of breakbeat pleasure that comes complete with fizzing electronic noises, deep bass and some suitably trippy synth sounds.

The first release on Jugaar Records is from Karachi boy Rudoh and brings together five slabs of electro-breaks architecture primed equally for the dance-floor and headphones - including a remix from Australia-based, Salt Mines Records honcho, Shedbug. Enjoy!

Russian Producer Alexander Lay-Far told us he missed DJing a lot during lockdown in Moscow and so he tried to channel the energy that he missed from clubs into these simple yet effective sample-based tracks which are a great mixture of funky breaks, soulful loops and vocal chops with heavy sub bass and bleeps, created with a BIG sound-system in mind!

The man even made special half-jocular term for this music - Soulful Hardcore - a fusion of rough banging rhythms on the edge of UK Hardcore, Electro, Breaks, House, Techno, early Jungle with prevailing Soulful feel and melodies. All the songs on this EP are dedicated to his better half Natalie and LOVE in general!

One of the songs get a remix by another Russian Talent ''Raw Takes'' the Saint Petersburg producer and photographer strips back the Original and makes it into a Ravey Dance Floor ready cut!

Politicians Under Firestorm is the second record by Alessandro Paolone a.k.a. Doc Pavlonium, released on La Sabbia.

An imaginary firestorm that politicians and people from all over the world are facing right now. Most of the tracks have been composed during the pandemic Covid-19, when our lives have been restricted in lockdowns where it is hard to move freely and meet each other. It's a floating world, very close to the polar inversion, crossing a technological revolution that humans have never seen before.

We must not lose ourselves! The key is the continuous research.

Yappin are back with Y-009, a collaborative project by Neewt and long time label affiliate Babydawg. Sonically this one might yet be the most contemporary take on breakbeat music to be released on the label. "Skyline Tears" EP is a smooth blend of old school and new school breaks and the psychedelic synth melancholia we've been associating Neewt with, ever since his first 12" release on Yappin back in 2017.
