Hivern Discs keeps unveiling new talent by introducing Mistakes Are Ok. Hailing from Bar- celona, Mistakes Are Ok is the new project of Franc Sayol, who's been one of the minds behind Hivern Discs since the label's birth.
Following celebrated remixes for the likes of The XX and John Talabot, Mistakes Are Ok will release his debut album, 'Nowhere Near', in early 2016. Forgiven is its first single, and comes backed with two stellar remixes by Giegling's Edward.
Mistakes Are Ok sound is not easy to pinpoint. With influences ranging from pop to dub, kraut to house and disco to electro and an approach to production somewhere in between the grainy sounds of Actress, the organic sampling of Four Tet and the pop sensi- bility of his longtime friend John Talabot, his productions are equally hazy, psychedelic and emotional.
'Forgiven' is a captivating slo-mo number that displays a woozy atmosphere in which mourning chords and melodies are propelled by shuffling rhythms, and with interlacing voices and tropical-indebted chimes.
In his first remix, Edward increases the tempo to deliver a robust dancefloor-oriented rework driven by icy sequences and stinging analog claps that infuse ravey tones into the original's gloomy spirit. Edward's 'Alternate World' remix deepens into the hazy and humid ambiance of the track, creating a highly soothing composition that layers narco- tic percussions, field recordings and subtle melodic details.

French electronic music has a rich history and one that has broken through internationally at times without the limitations of language of traditional songs. But it has been some time now since a new generation has broken through, and with Fakear (alongside luminaries Dream Koala, Stwo, Superpoze and Nowadays Records releases) a new dawn has broken.

Whilst previous EP's and a few high profile remixes have put Fakear, firmly in the French consciousness (The Sauvage mini-album went Top 10 in the French LP chart) and landed him a cover of the respected Tsugi magazine, it is the Asakusa EP (released via
Nowadays Records) that is set to take this sound global. The fact he is already selling out London venues, supporting Bonobo and remixing Andreya Triana is evidence of that.

Coming from a 'band' background Fakear creates highly potent and hypnotic electronic, melodious compositions. A sound that a new generation of music fans are helping to explode on the internet and in clubs organically away from any notion of manufactured,
business minded McDance music.

The Asakusa EP leads with 'Ueno' and takes influence from the East via a harmonious walk through the streets of downtown Tokyo backed by lush piano and strings. 'Skyline', is the takeoff single of the EP and showcases Fakear's addictive and complex beat making.

It's a flight to New York, the city that never sleeps. Asakusa finishes with 'Venus', the end to an emotive journey that signpost a major talent. It is however for Fakear in someways the start, as an early live favourite from his self-released days in 2011 and now cemented to

Bastedos returns with more signature weirdo disco not disco (but disco) cut-up cuts.
This time the painstaking editing comes from A.M., Last Waltz, and Bastedos themselves.
Side A brings us Sit On This, a rolling, chugging, clapping, marimba-ing (!) disco workout in the vein of Material ,which pulls you along through a peaky peak time vocal, a sexed up guitar break, and some chopped-up chanting, all the way to its inevitable hands in the air Piano finale.
Side B first provides us first with No Smoking On The Moon and it's celestial choral stylings. Soft synths and tough bass play with each other beneath B-Movie fx and ecclesiastic organs. The sound of a space age disco cult... from the past.
Finishing off side B we have Magicke, the extended soundtrack to the opening of the gates of hell. Shuffling go-go perc, syncopated drums and fuzzed out chords play out under Satan's saxophone, before giving way to a damned (damned fuzzy that is) guitar, sounding out the call of Cthulu.

Wow - Black Dynamite's second strike for Tenderpark ventures even more into Hip-Hop territory than his successful first EP back in 2012. Ivano Tetelepta, the man behind Black Dynamite has created three casual and well-hung tracks which form a fascinating hybrid between leftfield House and instrumental Hip-Hop. All tracks have been recorded on an oldschool analogue tape machine to create a warm vintage feeling which subtly underlines the musical deepness of these beat-centered creations. The cover design is the second part of Tenderpark's new black and white artwork series which has been concieved by the label's art director Till Sperrle and photographer Magdalena Bichler. As with previous artworks this series illuminates the various shades and interactions between man-made and natural environments.

Modernista welcomes Tom McConnell to the label for the first of a number of forthcoming releases. The three tracks on 'modsix' are the perfect introduction to the Pittsburgh-based producer, clearly demonstrating a deft skill for combining infectious melodies and raw drum programming.

The lead track 'Sorry Baby' is an out-and-out barnstormer, with soaring strings governing a pulsing bassline. 'Nova' is downtempo club music set between jazz-funk, hip hop and house, and 'Field' is subtly beautiful house that digs its way deeper on every listen.

Tel Aviv's Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise' builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it's the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out... an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what's playing. Next up, 'Hope' kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It's understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender' slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Through dense layers of noise, brittle beats, found sounds and a general haze, Francis Harris returns to his own Scissor and Thread imprint, with the aid of frequent collaborator, and longtime friend, guitarist Gabe Hedrick, under the guise Aris Kindt. Following Harris' 2014 sophomore solo album, Minutes of Sleep,' (named Electronic Album of the Year by Mojo Magazine,) the duo's quintessential album debut, Floods,' takes as its focus, the late author W.G. Sebald's profound interpretation of Rembrandt's 1632 master work, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp. Floods' is a sonic journey into the heart of the body, a bold rejuvenation of Adriaan Adriaanszoon (Aris Kindt), once a mere cadaver on a cold metal slab, now a living breathing human at the heart of a creative shift in vantage point from object to active subject. Much in the same way Rembrandt intended with the painting itself, Floods' attempts to subvert the listeners memory of a moment. Written within a span of over a year using an 808, a modular eurorack and two guitars, Floods' was mixed at Keyclub Recording Company in late August with Engineer Bill Skibbe. The album charts new territory for both Harris and Hedrick, melding a long history with electronic music and youthful love for indie noise, weaving in and out of near silence and sheering walls of sound with a gentle and constant heartbeat at its core. The dream-like murk of album opener Now Grey' sets the tone with thick pads, distant, ghostly guitar work and fragmented drums. On the title track, dubby chords set the tone, as subdued toms amble forward, with a crackling of fire nearby, as a dense sounds echo and swirl around into a climactic frenzy. Blue Sky Shoes' hypnotizes with its submerged strings and subaquatic patterning, as synths rain down like streaks breaking the surface.

Following on from early 2015's exercise in dissonant formalism Sarava Exu', Machine to Machine', Donoso's newest full length work sees a return to a more melodic sound. Machine to Machine', continues to bridge the gap between Donoso's more rhythmic and melodic work alongside his more experimental, loose and dissonant side yet still maintaining his unique signature feel, WTF'-polymertric rhythms, elegant cinematics and spine chilling tension. Recorded over the last two years in between visual commissions and more through-composed heady works such as Sarava Exu' and A Song for Echo', Machine to Machine' represents Donoso's return to the songbook format for the first time since 2012. Machine to Machine''s collection of songs are Donoso's most versatile yet, incorporating all major elements from his discography into a unified album. There is something for everyone on Machine to Machine', and that is well the point, a vast range of emotion eliciting stimuli for your consumption. Ricardo Donoso is a composer, percussionist and electronic musician from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil who currently resides in Boston. After having studied composition at Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory he has participated in a slew of projects over the years, most notably playing drums for avant-death metal unit Ehnahre and being one half of the ever morphing electronic duo Perispirit. Ricardo's musical vocabulary draws as much from contemporary composition, drone, to techno and noise. Taking the time to dig deeper, with long studio sessions, he aimed to create an EP that captures the essence of Lany Recordings and his own sound. Like a good wine, a good house EP must mature. 'when i joined mouse on the keys, i envisioned a concept that mixes diverse elements of contemporary music, such as dynamic hardcore drumming and modern french harmony with the feeling of a detroit techno follower.

since we got an offer to release an album on mule musiq - a label with much diversity in dance and contemporary music - our new album has been pulled out of us by itself' reveals the japanese acoustic and electric piano player daisuke niitome. together with drummer and piano player akira kawasaki and synth and piano player atsushi kiyota he is mouse on the keys - an energetic, hard to pigeonhole tokyo based trio that combines the sound of divers pianos and synthesizers with out-there drumming.

in their music locomotive us-american hardcore rhythms and virtuosic post-rock grooves dance fearless with jazz, contemporary classic and shreds of electronic music. since their foundation in 2006 the band has release three acclaimed albums on labels like the japanese imprint machu picchu industries or demanded german denovali records and toured live around europe, canada, brazil and asia.

as their main influences the musical libertines name a miscellaneous range of labels, artists and bands like on-u sound, burt bacharach, claude debussy, bad brains, kreator, material, johann sebastian bach, beastie boys, napalm death and steve reich. all of them left their traces on their third album 'flowers of romance' - an irrepressible amalgam of spontaneous ideas and precise written harmonics.

during the recordings in tokyo and the little coast town izu between this years april and may the trio worked for the first time with material that was not written together in teamwork. instead each member wrote songs by themselves and the band collaborated with guests like the violin player atsuko hatano, trumpet sorcerer daisuke sasaki, guitarist masahiro tobita of the legendary japanese hardcore band envy and many more befriended singers, contra bass, clarinet and saxophone players.

together they tuned in a live sound that gives all compositions a human touch and enlarges them into a higher level of music. 'i want to express a kind of four-dimensional sound like an m.c. escher painting,' says founding member akira kawasaki about his artistic aim.

all ten arrangements that listen to names like 'i shut my eyes in order to see' or 'the lonely crowd ' come close to his vision. they tolerate diversity. they explore space. they are romantic and explosive. they have post-rock and free jazz moments that partly remind on the music of tortoise or john zorn.

their virtuosic mix of alert piano-playing, intense drumming, chamber music moments, synth grooves, celestial ambient structures and beautiful abstract melodies is orgasmic and passionate in any moment.

they also covered a song by their hero maurice ravel and claim that western philosophers like ferdinand de saussure, sigmund freud or karl marx had a major influence during the writing process of 'flowers of romance'. a multi-layered superstructure that mouse on the keys morphed into an exhilarating utopian masterpiece of venturesome music made for ears with a deep sense of intense and playful radicalness, precision, fidelity and frankness.

'Flying While Standing' marks the first outing on Holger tracks, a Brussels based label that sprung out of a refreshing party breed which has seen the city's bustling underground mesmerized for the last couple of years. It's only a natural evolution for the two notorious record lovers behind the label, to start releasing on their own imprint. With this first outing they aim at giving a peek at Belgian synth pop still being alive, not only in the many retro compilations or obscurity reissues, but here and now.


Enter Bright Entity. Consisting of Michiel Claus and Ciska Thomas, both classically trained musicians and active in different other projects, the duo share a history leading them to team up on this project, starting out in 2009. While Michiel is looking to fulfill his musical needs in the electronic realms, Ciska, as a vocalist, does so in more acoustic settings. This mini album turned out to be the culmination of their shared love for synth pop, combining influences as wide as Arthur Russel, the dubpop sound of Peaking Lights and Pas de Deux, of which family ties convey a more profound kinship. Last year Ciska even joined the ranks of the cult formation when they performed a one off reunion concert at Brussels' Ancienne Belgique.


Throughout this six tracker you'll hear these influences shine trough in their idiosyncratic blend of sun induced, lo-fi casio pop, much in the vein of French duo Deux, Anne Clark or even Les Disques Du Crépuscule's Antena. Rich in colors and dynamics, with an ever pleasant friction between the rougher drumcomputer sounds and the fluid, soothing synths. Ciska's husky voice and cloudy melodies conjure up nicely with the housey drumsounds and deranged details that fill up the mix after a couple of listens. In fact it's not as straightforward as you might think at first listen. By stroking the right chords and laying down sanguine lyrics, Ciska manages to pull you in fairly easily. It's only through repeated listening that you may find the compelling part Michiel is playing, apart from taking care of the rhythm section.


At times pacing, yet soothing and even a little narcotized, this is music for cruising, home listening and dancing, for making out and romancing.

'In And Out Of Love' was released in 1983 on RAM Records. A tiny British label that ran between 1983 and 1985 with only 16 releases in its catalogue, half of which belong to UK Punks, The vibrators ('Baby, Baby' being their New York Dolls doing the Shangri-Las 1977 hit. I`ve no idea what they were doing in `84). A gated, growling, Electro-Funk, camp, sleazy sing along, created in a freak storm which crashed the Linn drum machine and blew up a TV. A track that could grind with Set The Tone`s 'Dance Sucker', Diggy Tal & The Numbers 'If It`s Love That You Want', and then 'Get A Little Love' from Angela. A track that as far as I know was gathering dust in countless bargain bins, lost, unappreciated, until Thomas Bullock used it as the finale to his Youtubed three-hour Just Jam master class in 2012. Post- Bullock all copies disappeared, a few resurfacing on the `Cogs this year for predictably silly prices.


'City Life' is one of the two releases on the Beau-Jolly label, dating from the following year. A handclapping, screaming, chase through breaking glass and slick `80s Pop videos. Uptown downtown. Red lipstick and white fur coats. Glamour, gangs, and boppers.

Hugo Frederick has been bubbling under the surface of Melbourne's incredibly strong electronic scene for years. Now it's his turn to suit up for an immense 12 on Plastic World full of euphoria and pianos. Soaring on an intricate combination of whirling ambient undercurrents, classic 90s house pianos and a deep understanding of house music and the groove that exists within it, Hugo Frederick's debut EP Skin is truly something to behold. Skin introduces two sides to Hugo Frederick's musical palette, the first of which is the expansive house works that are found on the A side. Opener 'Skin' sees Frederick realise the potential he showed in earlier releases, setting loose a textural piece that is tied together with classic keys and the introduction of a fierce kick drum half way through the song. 'Remote' draws the listener back in with a more subdued affair, enticing them in with wondering synths and inclusive vocals, culminating in the perfect release that leads into the B-side of the record. The flip side finds Hugo Frederick exploring his more experimental ability, with the hypnotic 'Stripped' and the shuffling 'Hexagonia' proving while he can shift his focus away from 4/4 rhythms he'll never lose sight of the intuitive groove that will always keep people moving. It's been a while since Hugo popped up on the Bleep x Warp Records x Soundcloud curated compilation 'Filtered' back in 2012, and we couldn't be more excited for these new tunes.

after two years of abstinence, senking takes us again into the depths of his musical creativity with his new record »closing ice«.the nine tracks of the album are intently dedicated to his distinctively bass-heavy and atmospheric compositions and the trips into the dark recesses of the human psyche.the mid-tempo grooves leave plenty of room for his sawing, war-declaring sounds that are unfolding expressive and gloomy but nevertheless warm soundscapes. every now and then, like a distant echo, a pacifying melodic fragment gives comfort and hope. however, the very open and seemingly improvised songs always follow their inner musical logic. »serpent« or »lighthouse hustle«, for example, could indeed be interpreted as conventional arrangements. and anyway, the riffs and melodies on »closing ice« are rooted in a profound tradition of rock and pop music.with »closing ice«, senking delivers exactly what the title promises: a balancing act between danger, hope and destruction, this record is an eerily beautiful companion into the innermost spheres.

Cafe Lanai is a duo in paradise. Friendship and music at once led vocalists/producers Michael Brock and Forever to adventure together to Pahoa, Hawaii. Originating with the absorption of tropical sounds and antiquated island imagery, the project made a ' sweet, sweet double espresso debut' with their deep first single 'Lanai'. On their debut 'Paradise' EP, Cafe Lanai enlists the spirit of humid rainforests and black sand beaches, imploring you to close your eyes and throw your body to the beat. Infused with interweaving vocals, sultry lyrics, sweaty synths and the flyest rhythms for house heads and disco souls, Entitled Paradise, the record pairs subtly tropical textures with the more subdued strains of house and disco, as well as bits of dark-tinted R&B. Perhaps it was the jetlag (Tooli arrived in NYC the very same day Henry sent it) or the fact that it's a straight forward deep track with lush strings and no fuzz included. It's up to you to decide.

Australian synthesizer enthusiast, boogie revivalist and occasional house producer Inskwel dons his rarely used Cold Chillin' Inkswel alias for this outing on Marcel Vogel's Lumberjacks in Hell outfit. While the Aussie producer's disco and boogie influences can be heard on Lemonade City, for the most part the EP is a house-centric affair. "Mercury Retrograde" melds a midtempo, head-nodding chugger out of backwards synth melodies and analogue sounding beats, while "Ompai" delivers his usual, soft-focus blend of vintage synths and warm, floor-friendly bottom-end. There's a chunkier feel about the heavily filtered disco bump of "Lemonade City", while "Degrees In The Shade" moves from metronomic house throbber to sparse P-funk jacker in the blink of an eye.
