Silence In Metropolis aims to act as a hub for new artists breaking through; artists who mine a forward thinking vein of deep house, techno and the many shades in between. For their 4th release they turn to UK talent Michael McLardy for two original tracks and two remixes, one from P Lopez and one from Evren Ulusoy.


So far Mclardy has appeared on labels like Alive, Save You and Deso with a cultured house sound, and first track here 'Summer Crunch' follows in that good stead. It's a slow and low slung groove detailed with deft little jazz chords, bird sounds and plenty of loose limbed percussion. The effortless melodies suggest McLardy has classical piano training under his belt and the vibe overall is one of pure late summer, early evening bliss. The remix comes from Turkish Beatport Chart topper and Moodmusic associate Evren Ulusoy. He redesigns the track for more energetic moments on the dancefloor. His kicks are a bit more upright and propulsive and the pads are that bit more rigid, bringing with them a nice bit of organic and musical funk.



McLardy's other original 'Motorcycles' again shows the man's ability to craft low-slung and louche grooves with plenty of human roughness and genuine warmth. This one features a dumpy kick drum underneath and a melange of percussive clicks and ticks up top. It's sensuous and slow burning house music that you can really feel in your bones. Dogmatik and Tirk producer P. Lopez from Paraguay goes in on the remix this time. Having had support from the likes of Groove Armada and Maya Jane Coles in the past it's no surprise his version is a deep and groovy interpretation with clever use of filters to build tension and a fine driving bassline propping the whole thing up.

If you've followed Local Talk thru the years you've most likely noticed how we like to throw a few curve-balls every now and then. For our 65th release we've got Gomma boss Mathias Modica aka Munk and NDATL head honcho Kai Alce sharing the black gold.Two producers with their own unique style presenting something special.
While Munk's original version of Hot Medusa is a shimmering and warm head-nodding & toe-tapping jam, the remix by Mr Alce is deep, soulful and musically rich House.
Two very different takes on one track, take your pick.
On the flip Munk delivers Purple Dust. This time he's upped the tempo a few bpm's, accompanied by a deep bassline with lush melodic synths and chords.
Mr Alce ends the 12" with a dub of Hot Medusa which is brilliant from start to finish. Another highly recommended and essential release.

Horsepower Productions, and their ever present head honcho Benny ill, revered in underground music circles as among the key early innovators of dubstep, return in 2016 with their much anticipated fourth album: 'Crooks, Crime & Corruption'.

Continuing their working relationship, which stretches back to the early days of 2000, for the design of the 'Crook, Crime & Corruption' packaging, Give Up Art drew on the visual language of law enforcement — creating rolls of custom printed 'Police tape'. Each plain, unprinted 12" sleeve is wrapped by hand in the tape, sealing in the discs, and making each pressing unique.

An ambitious and varied record, it finds the group expanding their horizons and broadening their sound palette, while maintaining the unparalleled production chops that first made them such a force in the scene.Their pioneering early singles sought to strip UK garage of its slickness, adopting a stripped-down, dubbed-out approach that emphasised roughness and powerful bass. This was music for real heads, not commercial dancefloors.'When You Hold Me / Let's Dance' launched the seminal Tempa label, and even the term 'dubstep' was first popularised in a 2002 XLR8R cover story about Horsepower. The 2002 debut album 'In Fine Style' stands as one of the finest documents to emerge from the UK undergroundl, while 'To The Rescue', which followed in 2004, saw the group play a vital role in shaping the direction of the music they had made possible. 'Quest For The Sonic Bounty' (2010) sees Benny and co. double down on their core strengths.It's certainly the most sonically varied Horsepower album yet. Rhythmically diverse, 'Bak 2 NY' and 'Kuriosity' unexpectedly draw from classic house, while 'Criminally Insane' is the perfect conclusion to the album, ten minutes of breakbeat madness evoking a crazed dash through rush hour London.If previous Horsepower records were defined in part by a commitment to darkness, then the new album sees a certain amount of light emerging through the cracks. Just check the summer BBQ vibes of 'Bak 2 NY', or the balmy shuffle of 'Curiosity'. At the other end of the spectrum the sticky weed paranoia and industrial clank of 'Ruf Justice', all gunfire and sirens over punishing sub-bass.Two of the tracks you might know already. 'Good Ole Dayz' and 'Justify' - originally released together as a 12' back in 2011 - both appear here in new versions. Thirteen years ago the Nurture label released Upekah, the one and only single to come under the son.sine alias.
It's an alias of New Zealander Leyton Glen who released only a select few EPs under different monikers, and one that sounds as good today as it did back then given all its dub infused techno glory. It's always been hard to come buy but now Delsin are remastering and rereleasing it into the world once more.

First up is the title track, a double deep track of spacious, gently pulsing dub that initially revels in blissfully ambient swirls before growing a touch more edgy and metallic in the latter half thanks to some panning steel stabs.

On the flip, 'Karuna' is just as deep and cavernous. Filling the huge chambers of echo and reverb are more ambient patterns, subtle beams of light and an ever churning, grainy dub undercurrent. Lastly, 'Mudita' is more propulsive and up right, with hunched drums rotating below and rueful ambient drones up top. Classy business indeed from the New Zealander.

With Polyester Skin Jacob Bellens embarks on a new chapter in an already impressive career. Polyester Skin came to life during the past two years in a close collaboration between Jacob and acclaimed Danish producer & DJ Kasper Bjørke. Jacob sent a ton of demos to Kasper who then selected which songs he felt were the strongest and the ones he could contribute best to production-wise. This is just the latest of many musical endeavours between the two, Jacob has been featured on vocals on several of Kasper's solo releases including Young Again' from the album Standing On Top Of Utopia (2010) and on Lose Yourself to Jenny' from Kasper's 2012-album Fool.

Young Marco delivers a compilation of his own remixes to inaugurate his new label, Safe Trip. Featured are his versions of tracks by Francis Bebey, HNNY, Michael Ozone, the recently released Vangelis Katsoulis remix and a couple of as yet unreleased remixes of Jacco Gardner and Zulu Pearls.

Welcome to a nocturnal show of climbing creatures and warm moving bodies, strangely familiar voices on lonely nightrides, and hair-raising déjà-vus of forgotten dreams. Welcome to her first EP: Jeopardy. Welcome to the world of Borusiade.

Miruna Boruzescu, DJ and producer from Bucharest, descended from Saturn's sphere through various channels of transmission such as: the mesmerising show "Dreamcatcher" on Radio Cómeme, Gudrun Gut's "Expartriarch Generations", Berlin's gay classic "SchwuZ", and in living colour at night from Milano to Mars. 2016 will see her visions coagulated into black vinyl, not only on Cómeme but also on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant, obviously choosing labels opposed to the genre-abiding underground neocons.

The soundtrack to her Saturn return - a period of loss, transformation and empowerment, soaks us in during the very first bars of Spellbound (Surrender), opening a velvet drape to a hallucinogenic dramatic play of sensualities, sexualities, emotional and physical bondage. Could a film score in a parallel world when doppelgangers of Bela Tarr and John Carpenter team up with Bela Lugosi sound like this How would these melodies work underlying the imagery of Tarkovsky's Solaris or Stalker

They not only evoke visions but sweetly poison our bodies on non-documented dance floors. It is here where the queer souls abandon their precarious conditions in society to turn into blooming night shades.

The trip continues with the energy driven Haunted By Flashlights, an electronic body trance of exciting anxiety where lampposts passing by at high velocity turn into strobe: A real nightlife flip book of self forgotten corporal mannerisms.

leads you with the help of a technolover's

groove through a modern epiphany, wrapped in Borusiade's softly swinging voice: "When I was listening to the radio the other day... It struck me... I thought I heard your voice... it was a weird noise... a powerful wave... like a whirlwind of sound... It hit me to the ground..."

Rescue seems to stand erected with the monumentality of a greek statue, the melancholy of artifacts from lost civilisations, a slow eruption of cosmogony and rebirth, and ever repeating, inevitable human tragedy. Closing tune Dancer's Doom brings to clarity that this is the beginning of a story that will be continued in other chapters of our lives, through further vibrations of Borusiade's urged transmissions. The enormous drums plus its ever climbing synth arpeggios, trigger our body's chemical rush and makes us long for more. And more.

The Jeopardy EP was written and produced by Borusiade. Final touches done in The District Union, Berlin with the assistance of Gregorio Gomez aka Gladkazuka and Matias Aguayo.

International Feel, the much-respected Balearic imprint introduces the first release in a new series of mini-albums from Len Leise. Consisting of six to eight tracks, the concept allows each artist to show more of who they are musically without the constraints of the traditional album format. It will followed by a beautiful release from Canada's CFCF , an ambient album from Jan Schulte and the return of Gatto Fritto .
Len Leise is Australian, that we know for a fact. Does he exist Maybe in the mind of his creator. He has released three beautiful EP's to date and there is a very natural musical theme to his music, one that is built around emotion, times and spaces. His first long-form work 'Lingua Franca' shows the varied palette of music he was listening to, from ambient jazz through to afro disco. The likes of Yasuaki Shimizu, Jake Solo and Ike White. Rare names for a rare sound.
'Lingua Franca' is all about travel and progression. Both from one place to the next and an emotional migration. An imaginary journey based on real experiences - though as with his name - what is real and what is not doesn't matter. Morocco appears in the deep ride of 'Forlorn Fields' , Spain in 'Leaving Llucmajor' and Russia in 'Route To Reutov '. Ever on the move, trade language is necessary - a 'Lingua Franca' . India finds its way here via the chimes of ' Madala Maksim ', Brazil in the afro disco sound of ' O Camino ' and Africa in the slow thoughtful pace of ' El Modelo '.
Sometimes a visual brings the music to life, sometimes a thought or feeling. It's music to keep and get lost in, a spiritual ride across the world's paths and percussions. These sounds are true to Len Leise and 'Lingua Franca' has been designed to delve inside his mind. A spread of wings, changes of pace and a chance to indulge in those wispy, smoke-filled thoughts.
Artwork comes courtesy of The Material Collective , responsible for International Feel's recent switch back to full cover art. Each mini-Úalbum will have a similar look and evolve into a diverse series of interlinked journeys through the sonic spectrum of artist's imagination.

It's been two years since Tagwell Woods first appeared on W.T. Records. His rich and refreshingly unique techno style caught the ears of the faithful. Finally, finally, the Londoner is back on vinyl with six pieces of his original brand of machine music. And the wait is worth it. Tracks like "Christmas" and "Training" pulsate with feeling. Others like "Rabbit Society" and "Chance" build on that emotion. Crisp percussion and heartening strings are weaved as lush moments and textures unfurl. The 12" is incredibly deep and flooded with sentiment. But don't be mistaken into thinking Tagwell Woods deals in weight, instead it's his lightness of touch that sings. "Tied Waves" is fragile and delicate, whispering before blossoming into being. The finale, the beautifully uplifting "Velocity", has that same deftness. Mecca defies classification. Electronica. Techno. House. Acid. All are lovingly melted together to produce an absorbing and soulful second release, a release which is testament to the talent of this fledgling musician. This is the first EP taken from Detroit Swindle's upcoming debut album 'Boxed Out' to be released on the 24th of March 2014 on Dirt Crew Recordings. To heaten up the anticipation on the long awaited debut album by Amsterdam's finest Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets we give you three tracks from the album as a little teaser to what is to come on the full length. First up is the title track 'Huh, What!' a true Detroit Swindle banger that takes us back to pumping Chicago old school house times. Much like their last EP on Dirt Crew that included 'John Doe' this new tune will (and we don't like this expression but can't think of another way to explain the sheer brutal power of this track) 'destroy' the dancefloors! If that wasn't enough bass in your face we got Leon Vynehall and A1 Bassline under their 'Laszlo Dancehall' moniker to rip 'Huh, What!' to shreds, resulting in a dark, pounding, straight up jackin' techno groove. Very raw and edgy, tweaking the original's key elements perfectly to join the dark groove going on. Definitely not for the faint of heart. The B-Side takes us back to that sweet and deep Detroit Swindle house groove. 'The Fat Rat' is much in the style of their last 'The Make Up to Break Up' release on their own 'Heist' imprint. A groovy percussive and soulful stabby house excursion, Amsterdam to Detroit via New York and back! 'Monkey Wrench', the last track on this EP, is just beautiful and quite possibly one of the highlight down tempo house tracks of the Album. It has this slow groove we all love from the Swindle's and a combo between the warm sound of the rhodes and the electronic feel of the arpy bass that really makes you love the track more and more each time you play it.

Happy Skull's first release of 2015 comes from UK based artist Creta Kano, who first impressed with his 2013 debut on Rotterdam's Pinkman Records. He showcases his highly melodious and deeply textured sound across three tracks for the Bristol imprint.

'Skyway Motel' is an emotive, Detroit inspired amalgamation of warm chords and rolling drum machine rhythms. The track's romantic qualities are emphasised on 'Skyway 81', a screwed, pitched-down version that re-casts the original as a serotonin fuelled slow jam. 'False Water' completes the package. A sprawling trip in to broken techno territory, reminiscent of 90's era Rephlex.

Delsin present a new EP by B12 aka Steve Rutter entitled Orbiting Souls, a name which comes from the fact the veteran artist has recently spent contemplating the loss of a friend and believes we are surrounded by lost souls and spirits. This is B12's second EP this year following on from the Bokide 325 release on Soma Records and comes years after still acclaimed album like Electro-Soma and TimeTourist on Warp Records back in the 90s. Orbiting Souls is a somewhat complex journey, a representation of inner Bi Polar opposites; isolation; sadness, but also acknowledging the great and wonderful things around that swirl and support and energise us. Following on from a pair of Extended Players released in 2011 ('Passed Me By' / 'We Stay Together') Andy Stott returns to
Modern Love with 'Luxury Problems', an 8 track album of new material recorded over the last 12 months. Five of the tracks
on the album feature the voice of Alison Skidmore, Andy's onetime Piano teacher whom he hadnt seen since he was a
teenager back in 1996. There was no grand gesture in mind, it just sort of happened - but after almost a year of studio work
the result is really quite unlike anything you'll have heard from him before

If an artist strives to leave a mark on music he must be more concerned with his character than his reputation. In that regard, Sander Mölder makes the perfect example. Hailing from Estonia, Sander has worked his way through a classical formation after thirteen years of cello tuition, which allowed him to perform at London's Royal Albert Hall as part of a chamber orchestra and at Red Bull Music Academy in 2012. Roots in funk, garage and deep house, Sander style is not confined by genre barriers, but whatever he does, there's a definitive soul element to it.



Originally surfacing in 2013 and played by legendary British selector Gilles Peterson and BBC 1 host Mary-Anne Hobbs, 'In Your Eyes' gets an official release on Rebirth in 2014 with a strong remix package. The first 10" part includes mixes from Eddie Fowlkes Detroit master of Technosoul Eddie Fowlkes follows his hot 'Something Special' tune with a great mix, cutting the original vocals and synth parts and delivering a strong version, that sounds already hot for the summer days.The remix 12" also fantastic reworks by Werkah & a Reginald Mamode IV Version. Rounding off the release Sander Mölder's 'Can You Really Groove' also features on the B2.

Roots Go Deep are a label devoted to releasing music by South African artists. Since 2012 they've released seven EPs by names like D.Nel, Makhen Gigga and label owners Ofuren and Fred Buddah. Now that they've established themselves in the digital realm of music, Roots Go Deep arrive on the physical medium with a split EP of deep and dubby sounds from Ofuren and Fred Buddah. The two provide two collaborative tracks in "Floral Synergy" - a woozy house jam in line with MCDE's Raw Cuts - and "Do Deejays Dream Of Dancing Sheep", a sublime mix of subaqueous chords, chilled out drums and touch of acid. Buddah just about goes ambient on his solo track "Ragan" while Ofuren keeps it heads down and uber-dub on "Ripples Through Reflection". Roots Go Deep indeed.

With previous release on PHIL, Midnight Shift, Amajin Records and Luv Unlimited, Germany's Simon Hinter makes his Tenth Circle debut with Nomina EP. Ranging from the blissful, Innervisions-esque house soundscapes of lead track 'Regenmacher', through the breezy, jazz-led groove of 'Adhs' to the laidback funk of 'The Cop', Nomina EP is a meticulously crafted EP from a producer at the top of his game. Following previous releases from M.ono, Vin Sol and Greenville Massive, Nomina EP is another assured and diverse release for the London-based Tenth Circle

Sunday Music goes deeper and depper with this fantastic album release. It reflects the love of label owner Henrik Schwarz for jazz, contemporary and chamber music. When norwegians electro-jazz pioneer Bugge Wesseltoft and Henrik Schwarz (!K7/ Innervisions) produced their collaboration 'Duo", it was clear that their synergy was both unique within, and revitalizing to, the whole genre of electro-acoustic beat-based improvisation. Now the duo becomes a trio, and the dialogue becomes a Trialogue. Indie/ Jazz Bassist Dan Berglund (e.s.t., Ane Brun) brings additional dimensions and a whole new range of songwriter possibilities, a completely new layer of sound, Tastefully chosen electronic rhythmic patterns and drums, virtuosic piano playing, analog synthesiers, thumping double bass lines. Subtle but high energy walks through your speakers. Moments of quasi-ambient atmosphere sit alongside driving energetic swathes of blues-inflected jamming from the future, near-metallic semi-sinister meteor storms of sound rest easily beside moments of classic jazz noire, and there is a marked assimilation of classical chamber sensibilities. This is a thoroughgoing post-postmodernist soundworld. What the listener will recognise instantly is, simply put, great music. BUGGE WESSELTOFT (Keys/Percussion) Since 1990 Bugge Wesseltoft has constantly evolved his sound, restlessly exploring new territory, rarely (if ever) looking back over travelled roads. He has worked with some of the best-known and respected names in jazz, such as Jan Garbarek, Nils Petter Molvaer, as also toured/ played with Laurent Garnier, Joaquin Joe Claussell, collaborates with Ricardo Villalobos.
