As the famous Dutch expression goes: the monkey is ready to come out of the sleeve again! Lany Recordings' 'Apetunes Vol 1' is still lingering with us thanks to Larse's killer 'The More I Want' track, but we here at Lany HQ have already planned the follow-up.
Apetunes is of course the result of the strong Ghent-Dortmund connection consisting of Maxim Lany and Ante Perry, friends and dj colleagues for years. They have once again looked to their close friends to come up with some new tracks for the second edition of the 'Apetunes' series.
And boy have they provided! Lany label boss Maxim teamed up with partner Katorski to get to work on their trademark deep tech house sound, the result being 'Birdlove'. Keeping things in the Belgian side of the family is Loulou Players on the all-out disco house trip 'You Are Here'. Apetunes' regular Mahan hooked up with Flo Mrzdk on the floor bomb 'I See U Dancin', which WILL see you dancing. And rounding things off is newcomer Adam Berecki with his disco-infused 'Love Groove'.
If that isn't enough the bonus track from mistery man Yoman Yohanson 'Feel The Heat' that features on the video for Apetunes Vol 2 is now also available!

Cut Copy presents: Oceans Apart - VOL 1, is the first of two vinyl 12' EPs that compile a selection of un-mixed highlights from the DJ mix compilation, for DJs, vinyl collectors and home listeners.

Globetrotting Melbourne ambassadors Cut Copy present Oceans Apart, a 19-track snapshot of their hometown's thriving underground dance music scene and club culture. The exciting project is the product of the band's observations between long bouts of international touring, where it became undeniably apparent that this fertile community was mushrooming and calling for some form of documentation. While its impossible to compile a definitive tracklisting,Oceans Apart threads together a cross section of the different party crews, label rosters and ambitious lone rangers that have been catalysts in making this city vibrant and happening week in, week out.

Cut Copy aren't alone in making these realisations. Whether its Tornado Wallace topping the Juno singles charts, World's End Press recording in Massive Attack's Bristol Studio, newcomer Len Leise releasing on cult Uruguay label International Feel or No Zu casually jamming their heat beat with New York legends Sal Principato (Liquid Liquid) and James Chance, the collective momentum of this scene has deemed the tyranny of distance redundant. The energy is being embraced by its foreign counterparts and no compromises are being made in the process.

There's been much speculation as to how this unprecedented wave came about. Is the fluoride in our water supply having positive side-effects Is it the mediocre Melbourne weather that's either keeping people on the dancefloor or in house arrest, tirelessly tinkering in the studio Is it the abundance of late night venues or the long standing presence of two influential community radio stations Or does it all come down to the appreciative audience that are just as critical as the creators All we do know is that this epidemic can't be stopped and needs to be celebrated.

This first volume includes Michael Ozone (ESP Institute), Andras & Oscar (Mexican Summer, Dopeness galore), Nile Delta (Cutters), Roland Tings (Internasjonal).

Cromie's bubbling, spacious house sound first drew critical acclaim last year on the sold out 12" Vines / Pyrex (Peach001), a collaboration with fellow LA producer Sage Caswell. Now, Peach is thrilled to present Cromie's solo debut EP Inner Knows, a revved up set of idiosyncratic dancefloor weapons.

How to Stop a Bulldozer, a rotating helix of synth stabs, warped vocals and low-end torque warrants it's epic title. Elsewhere, Flan functions like a potent concentrate of 22nd century funk. Inner Knows kicks off side B with a swirling late night house jam that flirts with the deeper corners of the genre. Another fixture in LA's electronic scene, Suzanne Kraft (Running Back, ESP Institute, Pharoahs) closes out the record with a cubist reading of Flan.

On his solo debut, Cromie's creative depth and attention to detail belies his freshness to the game. Regular sets at LA's Club Called Rhonda and various underground happenings in the sprawling Southland have taught him some valuable lessons. If he can deliver this many distinct sounds on a single record, we can't wait to hear what's next.

Dabit Records returns with its fourth release this July, in the shape of 'Natural Message' by
Kisk, backed with a remix from Sarp Yilmaz.
The Dabit Records imprint was launched out of Milan in 2013, and although only onto its fourth
release, has already put out a single from unsung underground hero Alex Agore. Picking up support
along the way from the likes of DJ Sneak, Washerman, Diz and Norm Talley, an indication of the
label's attentive A&R approach and quality control. Here the label welcomes Giuseppe D'Alessandro
aka Kisk onto its roster, Giuseppe is the owner of the Apparel Music label and here he showcased his
infectious Jazz inflected house and techno style.
The release opens with the original version of title track 'Natural Message', kicking off in an ethereal
state with moody string melodies, weighty drums and a bubbling atmosphere. Things take off just
after the two-minute mark with jazzy, natural bass licks, organic sax hits and spoken word vocal
murmurs, resulting in a classy, understated house record.
Turkish producer Sarp Yilmaz steps up to rework 'Natural Message' to close the release, Yilmaz
brings the cosseting bass tones to the forefront, while swirling, psychedelic synth pads, penetrative
sub-bass and bright strings drive the melodic movement. The latter stages introduce additional
electric piano melodies; the end result is a delicately intricate house workout that packs a punch.

Waiting For Heaven is one of the cult releases by Discomagic in early time of Italo Disco.Written and produced by Ricky Persi and Stefano Previsti, vocals by Australian singer David Sion.Three decades later Italian Records proudly presents David an Ricky together again with the Dutch duo Shambok and their updated versions of this fantastic song. A real floorfiller for all italo disco lovers.

Faze Action present new album 'Body Of One' - arguably their best yet, which considering the impeccable back catalogue is no mean feat. Foto Recordings goes all symbolic for their tenth release. Keeping the numbers in symmetry the 2-track single from label boss OOFT! is pressed on to 10" vinyl, and features one pitched-down & one pitched-up jam. Lead track Here For You summons some 70s soul vocals and layers new beats and synths underneath to create a pitch-down monster suitable for late nights and end-of-set moments. On the flip Whistle Time has more of a steady summer-house strut with disco samples rubbing up against some understated 303s to provide some terrace action over the warmer months ahead.

Originally released in 1978, Luv You Madly Orchestra's 12" taken from their first (and only) LP features the prodigious mixing talents of the iconic Disco alchemist Walter Gibbons whose deconstructive style has left an indelible mark on contemporary dance music right up to the present day. Elements of dub and experimentation had always been ingredients in Gibbons' formula when it came to DJ-ing, mixing and re-mixing records throughout his career and "Rocket Rock / Moon Maiden" is evidence of this.

Side A is a laid back disco groove, starting out with bare, stripped back drums and easing us in with an almost lazy bassline and shuffling percussion, there's so much space in the track and all the elements sound super clean and upfront and then a jazzy organ drops in accompanied by weird phased string sections and funked out guitars and horns, "Rocket Rock" has it all. On top of all that super spacey sounds and cowbell run through the track with a large pinch of Walter Gibbons' magic dust in the mix thrown in for good measure!

Side B is the real gem here. "Moon Maiden" is equally as sparse and otherworldly. It's essentially a cover version of Duke Ellingtons lullaby-esque song of the same name. Gibbons really steps up the mix with almost nine minutes of frantic, trippy disco eccentricity with soaring strings, odd analogue synth frequencies and spooky vocals flowing in and out. The track build and builds being driven along by wooden blocks, cowbells and that insistent bass-line. Another lesson from one of the masters that less is definitely more! Left-field disco at it's finest.

This is the first non-promo version of this 12" to be released, fully re-mastered and re-pressed in conjunction with Salsoul Records.

The first (and perhaps only) release from Talamanca System has been one year in the making. A single track with four interpretations, all at the hands of a new creative connection between International Feel founder Mark Barrott, German scene veteran / Running Back boss Gerd Janson and his production partner Phillip Lauer aka Tuff City Kids. The story begins at a late dinner party at Barrott's Ibizan hideaway in the Summer of 2013, when, in keeping with his 'if you're not using it, give it away' approach to life, Mark gave Gerd his Studio Electronics 'Boomstar 303' synth. Gerd was so determined to repay this lavish gesture that he offered to do a remix of a track Barrott was working on. After plenty of back and forth, one remix became a full collaboration and four different versions later (gotta love German productivity), the Balanzat EP was born.

'Balanzat' is a record that will instantly transport you to a nostalgic dream like state. A lush medley of warm chords, soft rolling percussive strokes, and a retro bassline groove, it's a floating balearic house gem, yet rooted in a classicly groovy US leaning framework. Also included in the package is the twisted Acid Reflux, a stomping Tuff City Kids Remix and an ambient reprise in the Beat Box Mix.

Mark Barrott, only recently out of hiding behind the anonymity that his cult label International Feel afforded him, has revealed himself to be the creative force behind much of the closely followed imprints' back catalogue. With releases under guises such as Parada 88, The Young Gentleman's Adventure Society, EFeel and of course 'Unknown Artist', Barrott is a truly free spirited producer with an A&R eye for rich talent and an ear for real music across many different styles, often falling under the very loose term of Balearic'.
Barrott's debut eponymous album 'Sketches From An Island' was unsurprisingly met with widespread critical acclaim this summer.

The "quintessential DJ's DJ" Gerd Janson coowns the much revered label Running Back and holds a residency at two of Germany's biggest club institutions, Robert Johnson and Panorama Bar. Together with fellow scene heavyweight Phillip Lauer, the duo releases music under the alias Tuff City Kids, remixing the likes of Azari & III, Osborne and Erol Alkan's Future 4 Project as well as releasing on labels such as Osgut Ton offshoot Unterton and Dutch mainstay Delsin.

Returning to the Southern Fried home, machine loving disco oddball Andy Meecham aka The Emperor Machine is back with a new single from his album, and it comes ahead of a full new EP in 2015. 'Pop The Lid' comes with remixes by hotter than hot international talent Jacques Renault, with whom Meecham has also collaborated on a new EP forthcoming on Jacques' 'Let's Play House' label, and will come in the form of a hand stamped and numbered white label 12", limited to 300 copies.
The Emperor Machine has been busy off the back of his latest album, Like A Machine, released back in May: he's continued to play around the world, has remixed Groove Armada's 'Look Me In The Eye Sister' for their Little Black Book album forthcoming on Moda Black and still sounds like no one else when it comes to off kilter and psychedelic disco sounds.'Pop The Lid' is a full fat, hugely colourful nu-disco gem with thick, twanging guitars, proper vocals delivered with lots of style and attitude and louche drums that couldn't be more inviting. Arp'ed melodies step up though the scale, whirring machines add texture and the whole thing is a masterpiece. As well as an LP edit, Renault steps up with slightly more pumping, dancefloor aligned versions that are riddled with withering synths, shooting chords and perfectly DIY percussive sounds. He layers the vocal in effects and filters to lend a spacey feel and also turns out a vintage instrumental version.This is modern disco at its finest and is a nice teaser ahead of some brand new music from the one and only The Emperor Machine.

Doyle's Lost World. Parada 88 have long disappeared inside the worlds largest recorded disco ball leaving behind just one nugget of dancefloor gold and no note. International
Feel channels these two forces into one very special 12", celebrating 'the feeling' of house and flipside to the labels' downtempo, palm tree roots.

BACKGROUND
* As if International Feel owed us any more this summer, the label gets set to rerelease two stone cold killer club records that came out separately in 2011 with super limited pressings. A rare collectors dream, Bicep recalls hearing 'Adventure Party' for the first time recently at the hands of Horse Meat Disco... I was playing PS1 festival tonight in New York with Horse Meat Disco... man, first time i'd heard 'Adventure Party', the place went OFFF. i'm talking 3000 people. It was very special!

* Currently going for silly money on Discogs both records in their original incarnations caused a riot amongst disco vinyl junkies. Notably an actual riot in a Japanese store when the 30 limited and hand pressed copies of Parada 88 went on sale. And it's not surprising really, 'You're Gonna Miss Me' is a proper Italohouse banger of epic proportions.

* Mark Barrott of International Feel relocated from Uruguay to Ibiza two years ago and has since come out as the 'Unknown artist' behind much of the labels back catalogue. Prior to releasing debut eponymous album 'Sketches From An Island' this June, Barrott has continually produced and released music anonymously as Rocha, Bepu N'Gali, Flights of Fancy, Boys from Patagonia and The Young Gentlemen's Adventure Society. The releases have covered house, Afrobeat and proper downtempo balearic and quickly sold out. Cultish objects of vinyl desire, Young Gentlemen's... only track, 'Adventure Party' now goes on Discogs for £200 so it's with great pleasure that Barrott bestows this glistening new 12" for the real lovers out there, stating "the simple fact is these records have power and I just want more people to hear them".

Over the last few years, The Very Polish Cut-Outs built a long discography of digital edit EP's filled with forgotten grooves from the his home country's communist past. These reworks attracted the attention of hundreds of diggers and music aficionados around the world.

Vinyl releases followed, all of them selling out in a few weeks. It's not surprising that Zambon, who runs TVPC, decided to issue another bunch of the most successful reworks as a third vinyl sampler of the label. This loudly pressed record contains four gems, ranging from new wave, to bluesy soft-rock and rough discofunk.

The A Side hits us with two edits done by Old Spice, a digger, producer and a master of editing hailing from south-western Poland. 'Pieniadze' is a low slung groover with lyrics about the addictive power of money, extended here for a maximum pleasure on the dancefloor. This track was never pressed to vinyl before, with original short version appearing on a cassette comp only in 1979.

'Chce Ci Powiedziec' (I Want To Say To You) is a perfect slice of Polish disco-rock transformed into a feel-good dancefloor filler. The charismatic female vocal and undeniably catchy hook will work everywhere.

On the B Side up and coming duo Jazxing bring pure downbeat balearic gold. These guys from Gdansk chopped and looped obscure bluesy, funky soft-rock, creating a hypnotizing slice of lazy beach house.

The last cut is done by Mental, who sets us into a cooler territory of Polish no wave. Emotionally engaged vocals about keeping privacy in communist society are backed by a steady post-punk groove. This Poznan producer adds modern drums and arrangements, creating a track that's much deeper and moodier than the original.

The ever-laudable Futureboogie Recordings welcome back label favourite Hackman for his 'Change My Life' EP. Through releases on Well Rounded, Ramp Recordings and Greco Roman, Hackman has continued to successfully diversify his sound. Despite this evolution, an anchor has remained firmly set in his consistently muscular bass tones that work as a stamp on his material.

Following up his 'Bruh Jackman' project with production partner Jabru - his first solo release on Futureboogie certainly bears this stamp along with arresting vocal lines and some effective melodicism.

'Change My Life' emits a fervent air with warming Rhodes tones nestling in amongst yawning sweeps and synth-swapping motifs. Irresistible R&B vocal lines create a compelling contrast against a thick and forceful kick. 'Lost From Me' wades in with Hackman's signature bass-tones rumbling beneath as shimmering melodies decorate the corners of the mix. Delicately melancholic vocals carry a finale quality as they shine out and pull on the heart strings.

'We Make Delicious' immediately feels the more rugged of the bunch with more golden Rhodes tones swimming in amongst seductive vocal lines and a crystalline ride. A tough and varied bass pattern pins things firmly to the dance floor whilst minor-key patterns maintain a brooding tone throughout.

Justin Faust has quickly emerged at the vanguard of Europe's nu disco/electro house has taken over dance floors and DJ charts during the past half-decade. Based in Munich but integral member of Portugal's Discotexas label (with Moullinex, Xinobi, among others), the Faust has created an album that shows how Justin creates his musical vision - from very club-friendly classics like "Girl Talk" to Nu Disco and Pop excursions and even slow material -, this album is like a summer breeze of feel good vibes. The album also includes the hit single "Space Rhumba" and a completely new version of his classic tune "High Hopes" as well as a unique approach to his first Discotexas EP title track "Holdin On" renamed "Slowin On".
On "Na Sowas" he was able to work with guitar legend Mats Björklund, who recorded tons of records for the likes of Boney M. and Giorgio Moroder - a true disco legend! The first single of the album will be released on September 12 and is called "Spellbound" which sets the path with a pumpin' mix of Nu Disco and House. No matter where you play it, "Spellbound" will fill the dance floor.

Mind Fair are Dean Meredith (Chicken Lips, Goat Dance) and Ben Shenton.Over the last few years they have had a slew of 12's out on Golf Channel, International Feel and their own imprint, Rogue Cat Sounds, but are only now dropping this, their long awaited debut LP. It is a bluesy folk funk swamp techno barnyard stomp of an album. It takes in influences from krautrock to English psych through to classic Detroit Techno, Chicago House and the (Italo) Disco that inspired it. It somehow unifies these diverse threads and drags them into 2014 via a rave in the countryside. We go dancing on a hay bale at 10am in the sunshine in a pair of dungarees before collapsing on a friend's sofa and skinning up amidst people jamming with acoustic guitars and bongos. Through it all marches the distinctive sounds that are Dean and Ben's hallmarks: chugging analog bass and deeply funky drums. All this is set to a loose concept of night out at the quintessential English traveling fair manned by psychedelic freaks...the fair of the mind. The vocal talents of Clover Ray feature, alongside other regular contributors Karl 'Akuko' Milller (percussion & vocals), Tim Silver (ukelele!), Sadie Shenton Jones (vocals) and James Flanagan (vocals). Though the influence of Detroit musically still reverberates the world over, the Portuguese capital of Lisbon isn't high on the list of places that you'd twin with the Motown, punk and techno-pioneering former American industrial powerhouse. To listen to II though, the new album on New York label Golf Channel Recordings by Portuguese collective Gala Drop, is to unearth a spiritual link across the Atlantic hitherto undiscovered. Their first full-length record in six years, and their first release since 2012's Pitchfork-lauded Broda 12' - a split with Ben Chasny from former tour mates Six Organs of Admittance ­­-- sees the four-piece join forces with Detroit ex-pat Jerry The Cat, to pull together the variant strands of Motor City's aural lineage with the more off the cuff Balearic-flecked grooves of their native Lisbon in a hypnotic melting pot of sound.

To fit The Cat's long and varied career into a couple of sentences doesn't do justice to a man who's quietly been working behind the scenes with some of the most notable musicians and producers through history. From percussion work with Parliament and Funkadelic, to performing live with John Lee Hooker, his involvement in the great rise of black music through the mid-to-late 20th century cannot be understated. Then there's his work within the dance community, with releases on Sound Signature and collaborations with the likes of fellow Detroit artist Derrick May, techno game changer Theo Parrish and his 3 Chairs collaborator Moodymann, to name just a few.

It's that eclecticism that's allowed the group freedom to be similarly unhemmed. Their music takes on the bustling heat of the streets of Lisbon but, like the city itself, feeling within touching distance of the open seas and panoramic scenery beyond. A song like 'Sun Gun' is a perfect example, built around intricate bass lines and restless drumming that eventually stretches out into the distance as the track races along, each little inflection and echo of other places and cultures, only ever fleeting as Gala Drop skip through their alluringly idiosyncratic world.

Siren is the new recording project from Darshan Jesrani (Metro Area, Startree) and Dennis Kane (Disques Sinthomme, Ghost Town). Siren began recording in earnest during the winter of 2013, but has beginnings which date farther back, to their mutual residencies at NYC's storied night-spot APT, and to the parties they produced together in APT's wake. Events with names like Camille 3000, Adult Section and Strobe Lodge were lovingly presented, with bold, romantic graphics and a strong, specific statement that refinement and transgression can, and should always hang together.

A Canal Street Loft, A Bushwick printing factory, a former ballroom dance studio in Chinatown, an old theater, an idyllic poolside on Long Island, a burlesque parlor - all locations which have played host to Jesrani & Kane's unique way of playing music for party people. Their melodic and broad-minded style has earned them a following as they continue to push the limits and range of what makes a night of mixed music dynamic, fluid, and ultimately transformative.

Over the course of so many conversations about songs played and examinations of what each was working on, a studio dialogue developed naturally, and led to regular sessions. A battery of songs were sketched, the name Siren selected, and a new chapter begun. Their easy bond of playing records together has extended into a studio practice that seems ready to yield a significant body of work.

Siren's first offering, 'Gauntlet', is a moody, rich maelstrom of a song which embraces everything from heavy disco, to West African guitar, to soundtrack and theme music, to Adrian Belew. It features the guitar and bass work of Mark Dann (Left Field), percussion by Sal Principato (Liquid Liquid), vocals by Daniel Chavis (Apollo Heights, The Veldt) and spoken parts by legendary barman and griot Vito Palmore to guide the way. A swirling, joyful, mesmerizing romp of a remix by the esteemed Ray Mang fills out the flip.

Though Siren will be undoubtedly be positioned in the market of electronic dance music, the range and scope of this project will challenge many of the easy and well-worn solutions that seem to be suffocating the genres. The same intensity and attention to detail that has been their trademark as DJs resonates through Siren's output as they push boundaries by their very nature.
