Just as the Surrealists congregated at Rue Blomet, or how CBGB became inextricably linked to the birth of punk, a flat in SE London across the street from a stall selling karelas, edoes and those frighteningly large snails, has become the epicentre of an exciting undercurrent of new and unorthodox British producers. From within the confines of their home studios, the inhabitants of --- Rye Lane have been crafting a sound that channels Jay Dee as much as the street bustle outside their bedroom windows, and are garnering support from Gilles Peterson, Lefto and Kutmah in the process.
New tracks from Reginald Omas Mamode IV, Sunshine and Moneymaker ,turn around dusty stabs of guitar and Madlib-esque beats. A homage to good weather and a cautionary tale for superficial woman, the tracks also feature his supine and natural one-take vocals. These songs are reprised with the help of brother Jeen Bassa and childhood friend Al Dobson Jr, fresh from releases on IZWID and Rhythm Section, with additional vocals added for good effect. First up we have some seriously funked up jazz disco business here, vocals have been stripped out apart from the line "Searching", fierce drums and percussion, baseline is just sublime with keys to die for singing out over the top, gorgeous guitar with soaring strings, extended to keep those feet happy on the dance floor.
Next we have a vocal jazz funk groove, tight musicians, great vocals with a bit of vocoder work to boot, rearranged for the dance floor as always, this should have you all dancing and glowing with joy.
The B side is a storming latin jazz dance floor killer, serious percussion and drum workout going on here, in fact all the musicians are on fire, edited for maximum effect on the dance floor and pressed at 45rpm.

Between the end of the seventies and the beginning of the eighties Italy became the link between American Disco-Funk and European Disco. From Italy came some Dance productions that conquered the charts and Dance floors worldwide . Amongst these productions the name AGO really stands out for originality. His way of singing, moving and stealing the show is unique.
The AGO persona on whole, perfectly incorporates eighties Disco-Dance aesthetics, where the password is state-of-art entertainment made from a perfectly balanced music and look .
First 'You Make Me Do It' , a lilting Crossover-Funk characterized by searing and syncopated sonorities, followed by 'For You' which went Gold in 1983 which shows a skilful mix of melodic Disco and metropolitan Funk, characterized by its firm gait and its captivating singing. This established AGO as one of the main protagonists in the Italian and International Club-Culture, while his records end up in the world's most accredited DJs briefcases.
Over the following years AGO's activities became unstoppable. While playing the world's best venues as DJ and singer, 'Electric Cucaracha' , 'Chinese Eyes' , 'Computer In My Mind' , 'I Want You' and 'It's All Right' would follow shortly.

In 2012 , Alberto Cerbai changed upon a completely different AGO. Happily married and a father of two beautiful kids, but now also a more mature man and artist. Although it was pleasing to see that he had as much inexhaustible vitality and energy as ever.
After collaborating as producer to the 'Gritare' Lentamente' footage , I decided to become AGO's new producer and to embark on a big restyling operation . Thanks to the collaboration with the Sounday, the website www.agopresta.it and the Ago Presta Youtube channel have been set up,the whole interfaced with the Facebook pages Ago Presta (9,500 likes) and Ago Presta bis (3366 friends) . The Sounday manages the positioning of pieces of music on digital platforms as well .
After getting in touch with Michele Violante again, the author of many of the previous hits, a new course was begun in the studio.
Celebrating the first thirthy years of his career , a revised version of the hit 'For You' hit the stores, along with a footage of the same title (6750 plus visualizations so far) .
Encouraged by this operation's success, Agostino Presta - stage name AGO, released a new captivating single in 2013 called The Power Of Disco which has recently been added to the Youtube channel, both the cut and the visual . (About 3,000 visualizations).
In the same year AGO played three California dates (23 - 24 - 25 Aug 2013) during the 'I AM THE FUNK TOUR' festival as a guest star .
After recently being in touch with Fernando Capecchi's Vegastar agency dates for AGO's exhibitions have begun to be scheduled .
In 2014, as vinyl returns to play a greater role on the worldwide market, the idea of pressing and releasing on vinyl and postponing the digital release to stir interest and curiosity from the mass media takes form .
A new EP titled 'IN THE CAVE' is now finished and will be put on the market in a run of 1,000 numbered copies, in the shape of 180grams vinyl which contains 4 previously unreleased tracks. Worthy of a special mention are its cover and its doily both printed with the quad-chromatic technique. Regarding some of the previous releases, as already mentioned, 'In The Cave' comes with two Youtube videos (the 'For You' remake and 'The Power Of Disco') and the 'In The Cave' footage which is currently in the offing .

Always surprising us with their A&R skills, Hot Creations are back with another outstanding release, this time from rising star Greg Pidock, who is soon to release his debut album on the label. 'Blame Game' is fresh and beautifully crafted with deep vocals and warm melodies, building effortlessly into sonic bliss. On remix duty, Minus favourite Hobo picks up the pace to deliver two on point reworks aimed steadily at the dance floor.

A formally trained artist, Greg received his BFA in Intermedia & Cyberarts when he was 20. Introduced to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss in 2012, Pidcock was quickly signed to the label and has spent the last year working on his debut album. Studying in Montreal he soon became the Creative Director at Montreal's legendary Cherry nightclub, DJing alongside legends. This led to the formation of Bad Pony Records with Tone Depth of Bedrock fame - a process, which firmly cemented his goals of creating music and art. Currently the resident DJ at the renowned Velvet Nightclub in Montreal and working with Turkish composer, Mercan Dede, as a sound engineer, Greg Pidcock is about to explode onto the international scene with his blend of passionate, sexy, heavy house.

Member of the Minus family since 2007, Joel Boychuk aka Hobo very much holds his own identity. With an early Detroit influence he has explored his own form of techno expressionism: sometimes dark and abstract, others more sample heavy and groove based. With a lot of time spent on his recently released album 'Iron Triangle', Hobo now plans to focus on DJing after being an almost exclusively live performer for 6 years. Both original and remix have been featured heavily in Jamie's recent sets..

Globetrotting Melbourne ambassadors Cut Copy present Oceans Apart, a 19-track snapshot of their hometown's thriving underground dance music scene and club culture. The exciting project is the product of the band's observations between long bouts of international touring, where it became undeniably apparent that this fertile community was mushrooming and calling for some form of documentation. While its impossible to compile a definitive tracklisting,Oceans Apart threads together a cross section of the different party crews, label rosters and ambitious lone rangers that have been catalysts in making this city vibrant and happening week in, week out.

Cut Copy aren't alone in making these realisations. Is the fluoride in our water supply having positive side-effects Is it the mediocre Melbourne weather that's either keeping people on the dancefloor or in house arrest, tirelessly tinkering in the studio Is it the abundance of late night venues or the long standing presence of two influential community radio stations Or does it all come down to the appreciative audience that are just as critical as the creators All we do know is that this epidemic can't be stopped and needs to be celebrated.

Jason Kincade aka The Mayor writes: I've been given the task of writing about three new instalments in the channel xxx series, inspired by the late, great Mangiami restaurant.
From 2006 until its lamented closing in 2012 Mangiami was the downtown clubhouse for a very New York cross-section of DJs, artists, musicians, fashion people, music obsessives and assorted layabouts.

On any given night of the week you knew that within an hour of sitting down at the bar any number of your friends would soon appear, and be entertained by the massively charming owner, Gianfranco.
Then there were the DJ nights. Every Monday (and later Wednesday) from after work until far too late on a weeknight pretty much a who's who of local heroes and international superstars would play on the rickety old Technics sat on the bar, with mayhem and general debauchery to follow.

It wouldn't be a surprise to come in one night and find DJ Harvey at a table with Tim Sweeney next to Alex from Tokyo and Bing Ji Ling with Eric Duncan manning the decks and 100 people crowded into the tiny space and spilling out into the street.

These three 12s by some of the artists that frequented Mangiami, coming in advance of a compilation of original material on Golf Channel, are a pretty accurate view of what went on there.
From low-slung fuzzed out sleaze through gritty roadhouse blues via stringy guitar solo led disco to bubbly, infectious afro disco and finally dubby, reverb-ed out sheer lying on the floor madness there is something for all moods to reflect the eclectic shenanigans that went on in that now hallowed space.
Whilst I am not at liberty to reveal the identities behind these recordings, the word 'luminaries' definitely springs to mind - cop the vinyl and all will be revealed.

DABJ break up those Winter blues with a very special impromptu release (the 10th no less!!!), marking the return of none other than the bold Marquis Hawkes! You're probably spying the lushness of this release in the top lefthand corner there, but we'll get to that part in a minute. As always, the man Marquis steps out with another round of bracing dancefloor tracks: "Honey Kisses" runs rambunctious carnival rhythms with slick and deep melody. "Let's Do It" is a no-less rompish affair, the filtered rag-time vibe sweet as a nut. "House Is My Castle" puts the breaks on the tempo for slow-mo acid chugger, leaving everything at the door apart form the essential elements. The last cut pretty much speaks for itself: Roger Funk manifests himself as the cosmic spectrum of light that bounces of the million beads of sweat that cover your mangled, gurning coupon.

All this is presented on the blackest Doberman-black wax, with the elegant but dangerous combination of a black/gold sticker and A4 insert, with all fitting snugly into the DABJ Doggy Bag For Life!!!

Anyone who bothers paying attention to these press releases will note that we have recently been comparing tracks to other artists we admire, or go down the celebrity endorsement route. This time round we'll do neither..

Instead we will say; Maloya is the first record we've listened to 3 times in a row upon receiving it. It has provoked ID requests every time we've played it and our dear friend Susie Crome claims it's one of the best records she's ever heard. That's no mean feat, Susie is well versed on the party front.

Imagined as a sharp contrast and complement to Funn City's trashy vintage vibes, Darshan Jesrani's new Cylinder moniker sets out to explore the more streamlined, forward-facing side of Startree's vision, while sacrificing none of the warmth or funk of its classic influences. 'Disco Engine' is a futuristic joyride which draws upon late 80s and early 90s techno vibes as much as it does disco and R&B to produce a groove which is warmly insistent, buoyant, sexy and a little menacing. Ruthless, detuned 808 toms and a punchy, round analog bass synth provide a floor you can push the gas pedal to. A greasy, giddy synth rhythm holds the middle down like a session guitarist when rent is due, and ecstatic choral synth pads and vocals by Chelsea Adewunmi soar just above the horizon. Underground dance music with the top way down. Side B's '4-Stroke Dub' works a more DJ-oriented angle around that 808 and juxtaposes parts which do not play together in the original, creating a track which is subtly driving and every bit as engaging. The gorgeous, understated vocal refrain in the middle is a destination you will have been happy to go the extra distance to reach. Startree is happy to present its second release as a continuing statement of its musical intentions and its simple desire for all to have a really good time.

A year in the making, Queen & Disco's "The Royalty of Funk" has finally landed. The project was handled with TLC from the get-go and the result has been worth the wait.
The Derry natives have put their souls into the record and it has come out the other end smothered head-to-toe in everything that Q&D stands for. A collectable 12" Vinyl which looks the part, but more importantly will do the business on the dance floor.


The 4 track EP boasts tracks from 2 of Q&D's biggest influences in Luca Trevisi, (better known as his behind the wheels alias LTJ ) and fellow Irish men Get Down Edits, as well as a track from the Q&D boys and Q&D resident Alan Mooney.


Track 1, "KOFI" from Alan Mooney's Edits is a Beatdown masterpiece. A sample ripped from a dusty old record, bent and moulded in the digital realm for it to be put back on wax and it doesn't stop giving. As far as introductions go, this one is a bit special. Rounding off the A-Side LTJ comes in, showcasing his enviable talents to endlessly produce mesmeric and distinctive tracks. "Don't You Do It" is a driving groover, heavy on sassy vocals and a hypnotic bassline.


The B-Side is a sexed-up affair, immediately upping the tempo are the Get Down Edit boyos with the aptly named "Dirty". There's almost too much good in this track to start singling out individual aspects, from harmonica solos, killer vocals, straight up funk guitar, and a heavy helping of brass, this track's got it all.
Closing proceedings we have the Q&D boys first foray into the production scene with "Ghetto Life". This one is all about the brass, a real party number with an infectious groove that keeps the head and feet moving for the duration.

4 Track EP with a little something for everybody.

Ministry of Sound proudly presents its new compilation series, 'Our House is Your House', and announces Grammy Award-nominated DJ/producer Todd Terry as its first curator, with his two disc compilation set for release 30th March 2015.
A huge resurgence in house music over the past few years has led to a big focus on the DJs who were at its forefront, and this brand new compilation series is the perfect way to reflect the purveyors of that scene. Through focusing on the DJs/producers that shaped the sound of house music in the early days, and still have influence today, Ministry of Sound is on a mission to prove that 'their house is our house as we know it today.'
Widely regarded as one of the most influential producers to shape the house sound in the early 90s, there is no stronger artist to launch the series than Todd Terry. His remixes of Jungle Brothers' 'I'll House You' and Everything But The Girl's 'Missing' were two of the first key crossover house tracks. He then went on to have top 10 hits with his tracks 'Something Going On' and 'Keep On Jumping', becoming one of the most in demand DJs in the world, with regular appearances at Ministry of Sound.
This two CD compilation is a tale of two halves. On the first CD, Todd showcases the key productions and remixes that shaped his career, including the aforementioned 'Keep On Jumpin', 'Something Going On', and 'I'll House You', plus tracks from Maurice ('This Is Acid'), Nightcrawlers ('Push The Feeling On'), Class Action ('Weekend'), Junior Jack ('Thrill Me') and Armand Van Helden's incredible remix of Tori Amos ('Professional Widow').
The second CD brings things up to date with a selection of Todd's favourite current tracks and remixes, plus three brand new tracks from Todd himself, two of which are exclusive to the compilation: 'Give Me A Reason' feat. Robin S, and 'Go Away' feat. Martyna Baker. CD2 also includes Todd's superb remix of Clean Bandit's 'Come Over' feat. Stylo G, alongside massive tracks from the likes of Sam Smith (Armand Van Helden Remix), Kerri Chandler, Huxley, Foamo, Harry Romero (Riva Starr Remix), plus Prok & Fitch's huge remix of CLS's 'Can You Feel It'.
As a globally recognised industry brand, Ministry of Sound sits at the forefront of the dance and electronic music scene, representing the most current and upfront developments across the globe. It was the first UK club to book house legends like Todd Terry and David Morales back in the early 90s, so it seems only fitting for them to celebrate the genre with 'Our House Is Your House'.
Exclusive previews of the compilation will be heard on 6th March when a Q&A will be held with the man himself and broadcast over Ministry of Sound Radio. Todd will talk about the record and answer questions from the press, competition winners, and questions tweeted in from the public.
This new compilation series is a celebration of house music's meteoric rise in the late 80s and early 90s as well as its resurgence in recent times. Todd Terry has been there with Ministry of Sound from the beginning and makes his compilation essential listening for house fans new and old.

Following the Middle East vibes, this is the second volume of De Los Miedos edits, featuring two more tracks of the best 70's Turkish psychedelic music.

There's much to enjoy about Andrew Allsgood's Free Association edit series, from the psychedelic trippiness of the '70s rock-inspired artwork, to the impressive oddness of their source material. Of course, this would mean nothing if the edits didn't deliver, but to date they've been nothing less than inspired. There's more brilliance to be found on this third installment, from the voodoo percussion and slowly building intensity of "Polyryhthm Jizm", to the loose Afrobeat goodness of lead cut "Grassland". The EP's third track, the dense afro-rock epic "Zulu Salute" is arguably the highlight of another inspired collection of inventive and unusual re-edits.
