Landing straight after 415-PR10, Public Release's first in a loose series of San Francisco-centric compilations, this three-track 12-inch is a further exploration of the Bay Area's sounds and aesthetics, though here it's explored via remixes produced by friends from abroad.The A-side is a complete overhaul, reimagining, and extension of Anonstop's 'Seaside' by Thee Loving Hand, Tim Goldsworthy's solo moniker of choice these days. The ex-DFA Records co-founder and former member of UNKLE took the tune's Balearic foundation and used it as a bed for what one might mistake as a lost Arthur Russell cut from the World of Echo era. Joel Wells lent his airy, light, sweet vocals to the track, while Darren Morris added synth work to bolster Tim's usual production genius. It's carefree and emotive, the aural equivalent of a big, toothy smile.The flip features a mix that's a whole helluva lot more intense and uptempo, though no less positive than it's original. Chida's remix of 'Domination' is squarer and housier than Be´zier's piece, which was glitzy classic disco dunked in Italo, but enough of it remains to be unmistakably a spinoff. Fiery and propulsive in the way a Gulfstream jet is, it's a ball of thunder that will electrify any set, any dance floor.

The Kloom surfaced one night in Dusseldorf through members of Autarkic, Naduve, Stabil Elite and more. This is what they have to say about it: "Kloom, in Hebrew, Nothing. AV1 builds a bridge between electro pop and club culture. Alix challenges the codes and references between old-house, 90's dance and new-wave and offers unapologetic dance music that takes the shape of hymns to nocturnal hedonism, to urban encounters and to the maze of inspiration, all while embracing humor and a sense of second degree.

The LP leads off with Friday Night in my Room, somewhere between a jazz-house piano and a playful and stubborn electro, in an extended club version, followed by a hypnotic deep house remix from Garance (Ayeko), soaked with exotic percussions. On the B side, Christian Stark (The Cruzaders / Los Cruzeiros) offers a deep sensual anthem with his "Flowers" remix and Se-Te-Ve (Plak/Gravitation) takes "You In The Dark" into his tribal house radicalism.

AV 1 is released on collective.ch, an independent Swiss electronic label, developed by Sylvain Ehringer (Xewin) and Alix Vesper.

Iceland born, Norway based disco producer, BG Baarregaard, drops in for the inaugural vinyl outing of Austin, TX based imprint, Whiskey Pickle Records. The Buskerud Tales EP comes complete with four, silky smooth original productions that cover the bases between Italo Disco, Balearic, 90's tinged R&B and soulful house.

Love Sexy Records' bossman DJ Raw Sugar dishes up another fine selection of his own gear for the label's second release. This one kicks off with the vibrantly smooth and smoothly vibrant "Eins Zwei Disco", a bouncy portion of future movement built upon a rubbery, logical bassline.

While Inkswel was on remix duty for the first release it is Voyeurhythm's Megadon Betamax who swings through this time to take the track up and beyond and somehow manages to add even more optimism and brightness to what was already a positive slice of future disco.

From there it's back to DJ Raw Sugar with the piano-dripping mid-afternoon burner of "Break It Down" and off-kilter beyond-the-grave ghost jazz of "Why Don't You".

These are some of his most sought after unreleased edits that are known for their strong reaction on the dance floor. They cause an instant heat. His perversity shines through the extreme tempo shift of 'Jungle Fever' lifting it up into pure ecstatic dance floor action, with all the eroticism of 'French Kiss' and all the spanish funk groove of Barrabas. We could to listen to the hypnotic 'Goodnight' for hours on end, finally seeing light on vinyl. Gay Marvine's 'What's Happening Bro' is not an edit per se, it's what happens when you cross that line and it becomes house. This is perhaps his greatest tribute to Moodymann and his sets at Better Days,Hotbox and La Dolce Vita. The EP ends with the ever dirty 'Bump Man' and Gay Marvine's unique feverish take the needy anthem. Gay Marvine might just be the Frankie Knuckles of edits, because his music will keep you warm in the cold, a true musical heater.

Tiff's Joints presents it's first release in the form of two Afro-Brazilian dancefloor cuts.

Oribata are Sao Paolo's DJ Tahira and Fernando TRZ. Tahira has been a fixture on the Sao Paolo scene since the late '90's, gaining recognition both in Brazil and abroad for being one of the most knowledgable DJs on Afro-Brazilian music. His edits of classics like Gilberto Gil's "Toda Menina Baiana" getting heavy airplay from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Francois K and Nightmares on Wax and the seal of approval from Gilberto Gil himself. Fernando TRZ is a musician, arranger and producer, most famous for his work with TRZ trio and Lavoura, and counts Marc de Clive-Lowe and Eumir Deodato amongst fans of his music.

The A-side, "Batuki", from Oribata is an Afro-Brazilian house Jam. The B-side is a DJ Tahira edit of "Cavalinho Cavalao" by massively influential forro group Banda De Pifanos De Caruaru, a galloping drum and flute frenzy.

Following on from two various artist 12's that featured the likes of Rüf Dug and Adam Strömstedt, the latest release on Banoffee Pies Records welcomes unsung 90s house champion Mark Nicholas to the fold, presenting material unearthed from his archive of unreleased gems. We had originally intended to ask Nicholas for one track to appear on our various artist series of 12's, and instead wound up with an album's worth of material to impart.
Nicholas' own Ringrose label first rose to the surface back in 1998, and the highly sought-after Low End Theory Pt. 1 12' amassed something of a cult following amongst eager heads over the years. Intrigued by the refined analog grooves he had left behind, we were no exception, and after digging around his back catalogue on Discogs, we found him perfect for the off-kilter, soul-enriched and sample heavy sound our label and parties stand for.
After requesting tracks from Mark we ended up with a wide selection from Nicholas to sift through and quickly reached the conclusion the music was best represented as a complete body of work. While it took time to come up with the perfect selection, we feel this album best represents the diversity and skill Nicholas has at his fingertips, and demonstrates an art often forgotten today. The ability to keep colour and personality in music a refrain from the simplicities of a pigeon holed sound.
The live, jammed out feel is equally matched by experimental ideas, perhaps best manifested on uptempo swinger This Jazz', but still a direct understanding of groove drives the album forwards at all times. The energy levels ramp up to the techno pulse of Ginger Giraf' at times, while elsewhere a sweet and serene mood calms the pace down on Old Sole', but the finish on the music is consistently organic and hand-played, holding everything together naturally whatever the tempo.
The energy and sheer musicality that spills out of the ten tracks selected for this album is hard to resist, shedding a much-deserved light on jazzed-out house music that came dangerously close to never seeing the light of day.

The obscure Batongo is back with his fifth EP. Three tracks so close and yet so different: a candid peak into sins and temptations, a eulogy to the erotic world of clubbing and finally a debate on a society close to collapse.

Sweet Addiction is Yuksek's great studio comeback. Its 5 elegant tracks signal his return as a main player. By all accounts, Whiskey Disco has matured. Each release unique, but compiled meticulously to meet some of the highest standards in the edit community.
WD45 continues the trajectory with 4 tracks combining equal parts soul, boogie and disco. Rastanils cuts up cheesy obscurity to reveal heavy disco vibes—this edit was smashed by MCDE at numerous festivals in 2015. Next up, the 'intriguing' Corsican Brothers reappear after a 5 year absence from Whiskey Disco with a sliced version of I Like It, beefed up bass and space on the platters with a touch of dub. Side B exemplifies the weirdness only a b-side can... Albion's Disco Chopper is a stretched and phased party jam that DOES NOT Stop.
Move to the inside for the lengthy and epic Big Time, a 9 minute exploration into rocking disco roots, courtesy of the eponymously named Blaxploitation movie from 1977.

With the musical institution that the guitar constitutes, Golden Retriever sets out to change its paradigm with very simple means, creating a void between genres and ideas to be in, grinning in its essence yet at times grounded with serious introspective ingredients. With only an iPhone as a recording studio, Golden Retriever has created the EP in a very minimalistic sense, not only when it comes to sheer production elements but also through that instruments chosen to use.Having a background in various other scenes, you could say it's a consequence of leftover creativity and exploratory passion that didn't fit in anywhere else at the moment. The sonic palette is naive, luscious and surprisingly thick and sturdy considering the limitations of both instruments and recording equipment used.
With unassailable melodies that are equally captivating as ravishing, it seduces you with the same drifter romantics and beautiful scenery as you would find in any classic country song without following the same structure.

Those familiar with EVM128 will place him firmly at the forefront of the new wave of broken beat artists. Oliver Night stands in this vein but hits even harder, with smooth soulful vocals riding the strident rhythms flowing through the bass, drums and chords. Galactic Ganesh is a space elephant with serious junk in the trunk, evident in his outrageous grime and techno productions under another moniker (whose highlights include appearances on Black Acre and BBC Radio 1). Tell Me is a boogie-flavoured floor filler marrying the holy trinity of wah-ing synths, slapping drum machines and talkbox vocals.
Portland-based producer Body-san's much-lauded cassettes on 100% Silk and 1080p combine warm deep house grooves with 90s-flavoured digital synths and organic textures. Sensory Bin is no different, the spaced-out tape-warbled lead floating over delicious pads and a snappy beat.WotNot followers will have seen Danvers performing at various events, as well as hearing his brilliant Soccer96 remix alongside efforts from Danny Krivit and Glenn Astro last year. Hoxton 203 is sumptuously groovy; the moment those shuffling Rhodes cuts enter is a guaranteed level-upper on any dancefloor! Wherever the night's at, one of these will surely go down a treat, and it kicks off a string of new stuff from WotNot including releases from Danvers, K15, Charo and new artist William Florelle.

After an excursion into the hot, equatorial waters of Transafryka, the fleet went back up north to visit Europe's busiest port and meet with Freux.He comes from the same creative crew from Poznan that brought you such talents as Selvy and Newborn Jr. Nowadays this young graphic designer spends his days in Rotterdam's district of Delfshaven, after which this EP is named.
A mix of 90's deep House influences, strong sense of humour and unusual musical sensibility guarantees a sure shot winner.
The strong groove of 'Bernie' is build on a scatting vocal loop, soon joined by ethereal synths and funky slap bass. Borderline cheesy sax line completes the picture, which is like an ocean in the sunny, windy afternoon - soothing but never sleepy.
Coming up next is 'GHT', inspired equally by 1990's New York and 2016's Vancouver sounds. Ambient soundscapes and chilly melodies are set off to pumping drums and looped basslines.
The club mix of 'Step' offers a similar sound palette, enriched by mallet percussion. A fantastic soundtrack to any leisure activities. The ambient mix takes the original idea into one of Rotterdam's coffeeshops, the one where they show a surf movie in slow-mo on a constant loop. Jump and wave.
