12" Vinyl with Download Code. Expanding their rich sound palette Forbidden Dance moves on to the next plateau with their third release. After releasing two legends Alton Miller and Vick Lavender, new EP is signed by a young and sound broad producer from Naples - The Mechanical Man. Drawing influences from the sound of Chicago, Philadelphia and Motor City he achieved to catch the multi essence of the house sound into a four-track journey marked with slow and fast-paced soulful corners dominated by toned vocals and stripped-down beats all the way to the underexposed lounge sections and playful intermissions.
Drum programming is a strong point for The Mechanical Man and it can be clearly heard in "A1 - The Streets Of Revelation". Infused with most probably vintage Linn Drum hits, the track intertwines numerous elements in a hoppy and gentle swirl riding on double vocals. Everything takes a full sonic conclusion in the third quarter when the main synth starts to breathe fully.
Residing on almost the same rhythm hits, "A2 - I Keep Thinking" is more of a deep dive into love dreams. Emotional and subtle pads and chords progression are really felt here as the track rubs under soft vocals in need of a response.
The light essence is captured on "B1 - What Your Eyes Don't See". While the delayed vocals are cutting the motion and the rhythm is rougher, it still manages to keep the terrace vibe movement. Rhode-like section carries the track all the way with occasionally reduced percussion hits spicing up the background.
On the other note, "B2 - Take Her In Your Arms" is a gentle dance of maracas and rhodes. The acoustic bass is quite seductive and inviting whilst flutes and other elements riddle the track with a toned-down lounge feel and sway into hypnotic slow-motion.

It saw them showcase a breadth of soulful futuristic styles, releasing incredible material from the likes of ​Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, Horatio Luna​, Folamour, Kaidi Tatham ​and highlight innovative movements within the South Asian Diaspora with their mind-bending ​chalo ​compilation. Returning in strong form, the globe trotting imprint now announce their latest signing - legendary Chicago based producer ​Anthony Nicholson​.

Having released records since 1992 (under a plethora of aliases), Anthony’s discography is one of the most respected and sought after collections in dance music. His collaborators include ​Ron Trent​, ​Peven Everett​, ​Glenn Underground​, ​Mark De-Clive-Lowe, ​his catalogue even boasts a​ ​remix for L​arry Heard.

Once again taking on his given name, the ​‘​DIRTYDISCOJAZZFUNK EP’ ​sees Anthony channeling his ​undeniable talent for creating mind expanding, groove driven house music, alongside some truly impressive musicianship. Anthony explains: “​I try to create this music with the intentions of inspiring a solo-ist to deliver a honest performance when they’re playing on the track. The arrangement sets the tone. In the case of this track, it sounds relentlessly funky. ​Throughout the 12”, high energy, tape-saturated drums meet fusion licks and swirling Rhodes/Wurlitzer pianos, as synth stabs and a rock solid rhythm section steadily work the compositions in a heady dancefloor-moving frenzy.

Der Erlös aus der Veröffentlichung geht an die Kampagne für ein freies West-Papua.

Was aus den ersten Keleketla!-Sessions in Südafrika hervorging, war Musik als Reaktion von Aktivist*innen, und dies wurde zu einem Schlüsselthema für das „Keleketla!“-Album welches am 3. Juli 2020 erschien. Keleketla! begann als musikalische Begegnungsstätte zwischen den Ninja Tune-Mitbegründern Coldcut und einer Reihe südafrikanischer Musiker*innen (die von der Wohltätigkeitsorganisation In Place Of War zusammengebracht wurden) und verzweigte sich bald von Johannesburg aus nach London, Lagos und L.A., wobei Coldcut - die Freunde der Familie Wenda und langjährige Unterstützer der Kampagne „Free West Papua“ sind - den westpapuanischen Unabhängigkeitsführer Benny Wenda einluden, einen Beitrag zur Platte zu leisten.

Die Platte erhielt überschwängliches Lob von Medien wie der Süddeutschen Zeitung, die schrieben „Keleketla!' liefert die bisher raffinierteste Kampfmusik für unsere Gegenwart!“, von NPR, die sie als „eine atemberaubende Zusammenarbeit“ beschrieben, während FT sie als „eine kosmopolitische Geschichte des musikalischen Widerstands“ bezeichneten. The ever-prolific MdCL has been blessing us with so much music over the last couple of years, getting heavy into his jazz-bag with Heritage, Ronin Arkestra and Dreamweavers. Always a man of multiple vibes and styles, his latest offering Midnight Snacks vol.1 eschews his bandmates and puts the beats and basslines front and center with four instrumental tracks of broken beat, house and downtempo to wrap your ears around.
Opening with Joyful Resistance Part I - created at the peak of the 2020 Black Lives Matter social uprisings in the US and around the world, spiritual jazz piano gives way to a swaggy head-nod 3/4 hip hop excursion sounding like a modern day blend of Harry Whitaker and Bernie Worrell. Blue Hour bring us into sunrise-house territory with MdCL's signature harmony and piano leading the way over lush strings, showing us yet another reason why he’s one of your favorite producer’s favorite producers.
Side B opens with 37,000 feet - a soundtrack to flying high in the skies and the anticipation of going somewhere new with broken beat drums, rhodes and free-wheeling synths taking us all the way there. Closing out the EP, Thanks Given brings us the broken-boogie with MdCL’s playful harmony and melodic flourishes oozing with uplifting goodness. Synth and piano solos are the icing on the cake rounding out this first installment of Midnight Snacks.

Chiaia Lovers a new esoteric electronic label raised from Napoli is proud to present “Prince Ozay: La Struttura della Magia” a delicious 12” four track ep that pays tribute to Maestro Gurdjieff and his musical alter ego. A side open up with “Sarmoung” an intricate idmish breakbeat over a intense bassline that drives to an incredibile piano jazz progression, while “Ultima Caccia” explore an hypnotic percussive pattern filled with a sun kisssed piano rhodes chords like a modern library; on the flip side “Stelle Marine” digs into ambient/new age territories with some Krautrock flavoured arpeggios and “Portinatx” drop a balearic guitar textures with reminiscence of Neapolitan 80’s melodies.

In another tight and consistent projection, Paxton Fettel actualizes his assertion for independence, eclecticism and voodoo - with a collection of delightful enchanting vibes.

Zenit is a jazz ensemble from Krems in Lower Austria, founded in 1976 by Hannes Treiber and Willi Langer. Their music was celebrated locally, but to reduce them to their local fame would be a shame: After all, their first two LPs, Stimmungswechsel (Change of Moods) and Früchte (Fruits), quickly gained them a much wider audience of discerning listeners. Arguably, however, Zenit’s third and final LP Straight Ahead is the most special of their records. It initially came out in 1986 on the producer’s label Spray Records, and is today one of the hardest-to-find Austrian jazz records. Its centrepiece is the infectious slow-motion disco piece “Waiting,” with vocals by American jazz singer Linda Sharrock. Effortlessly bringing together pop, soul and new age vibes, this is a record that is as unique as it is difficult to date. Does it sound like from the 80s? We’re not sure. To our minds at least, it could also be from the future.

Since releasing his Shaka EP Vol.1 back in 1995, Swiss House veteran Kurt Spichiger aka Shaka has become a reliable sources of skilfully constructed house music.

Opening track 'Theme From Riverwalk' is a luscious exercise in melodic and soulful deepness. It oozes deep house authenticity and you know you are holding quality just a few bars in, a track that would sound at home on Strictly Jaz Unit Muzic.

On the flip you'll find Shaka confidently skipping between deep melodic house with jazzy melodies, heavily influenced by soulful and spiritual house vibes. 'New Relationship' aims straight to the heart and is the perfect blend of something played by both Joe Clausell and Ron Trent.

Honeycomb Music is so proud to present the incredible new single from HC artist Lamone Andrews. “Girl You Need A Change Of Mind” is the 1972 hit song from soul singer Eddie Kendricks, but in 2020, the super-talented Josh Milan reworks this classic jam into a new and exquisitely produced masterpiece! Lamone knows how to deliver Kendricks' classic vocal sound while maintaining his own falsetto style and we love it!

Multi-Grammy nominee Luisito Quintero revisits his Percussion Maddness album with new songs and remixes by an elite personnel of seasoned artists, producers and musicians of our time. “Free My Soul” features jazz artist Claudia Acuna with musicians Luisito Quintero on percussion, Anderson Quintero on drums, Carlos Henrique on bass, Junito Davila on Piano / Keyboards taking a free form approach in the studio pulling you into a twelve minute journey of love. “Skinny Papa”, a Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe boogaloo classic retouched by Luisito Quintero who called upon his Venezuelan brothers Los Amigos Invisibles with background vocals by veterans Jose Mangual Jr. & Milton Cardona (original percussionists and background singers for Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe) gave it the boogaloo vibes with a modern twist. Felix has been working his Studio hard this past summer and caned out a whole bunch of awesomeness! We are more than pleased to welcome him back on Dirt Crew this year after his excellent new EP on 'Bobby Donny' and the 'Buster' jam for our 'Deep Love 2018' compilation. The A-side starts off with 'Between US', a cool, pump-y and jazzy track with a hypnotic tribal bongo rhythm that winds up in that typical Leifur swirl. Followed by the super deep 'Hamburg 3011' that flicks an off-beat mash up of soul, guitar samples and funk hi-hat vs snare groove that is just irresistible dance floor goodness, we can't wait to drop this on a massive sound system. Over to the musical world of that B-side! What can we say, Felix changed his style quite a lot here and delivers some bang on Electro with 'Pinot Noir 1985' that just bounces in yer face with a dope ass beat keeping those typical Leifur flavors alive with a warped piano loop and delayed vocal snips. Second is the almost garage-y tune 'Modern Soul Classics' with massive subs underlaying the 'Rhodes' and drum cut ups, moody and deep in his signature style. The closing track is a real Icelandic Bossa Nova affair! Silky 'n smooth again he works that piano loop towards eternity, we love this piece a lot! Reminding us of past 90s electronica by the likes of 'Sabres of Paradise' or 'Nightmares on Wax'. The best ending to this EP we could have hoped for! Enjoy this varied 'n eclectic EP by our Icelandic talent Felix Leifur and make your Autumn a hot one by dropping these jams on the floor!

This time we give you an Apparel Wax bottle opener while from the cover you can get a panel to play battleship, with the hope of making these complex days a little lighter and more playful.

The eighth chapter of the Apparel Wax saga brings with it, as always, a multitude of sounds and suggestions. The masked producer always manages to renew himself, bringing something new and special to each record but always remaining faithful to his musical line. APLWAX008 will be released in January and consists of four tracks: the first is a track with a very marked dynamics and is characterized by a solid rhythm section, a bass line that recalls the UK garage, vocal samples and a beautiful harmonic evolution produced by evolving chords. The second track, A2, winks at Jazz and Soul with a production rich in rhythmic virtuosity, keyboard solos and an almost hypnotic vocal loop while the second side starts with B1, which takes us back to an imaginary dancefloor with a powerful beat and airy disco chords. The EP closes with B2 that softens the tones giving a more intimate, classy and deep end, with references to Funk and R&B. In short, an EP that touches many genres while remaining compact as a whole. Another small masterpiece of production and music selection by Apparel Wax. Out in January 2021, to warm up your winter.

Not content with defining the sound of minimal techno in the nineties, Robert Hood has more recently fine tuned his own gospel tinged take on the genre. It comes under the Floorplan moniker, the genesis of which is said to have come to him when awakened by a late night vision. Since 2016, it has been a collaborative duo between Hood and daughter Lyric, and never fails to lead to religious experiences on the dance floor.

With roots in the Detroit techno scene in which Hood first emerged, Floorplan’s sound is embellished with the heartfelt emotions and unbridled passions of Chicago house music. It is heavy and analogue and filled with vigour thanks to the expert drum programming and ever rising sense of euphoria that comes from the well sculpted synths. But it also speaks to the heart and soul and has done since first standout cut ‘We Magnify His Name.’ The pair’s endless quest for the perfect groove continued through albums like 2013’s Paradise - which spawned anthemic singles like ‘Let’s Ride, ‘Baby Baby’ and the massive ‘Never Grow Old’ - and 2016’s Victorious.

The same year saw Hood’s daughter Lyric officially become part of the project. Since then they have taken Floorplan to endless headline shows at high profile clubs and festivals everywhere from New York City to Ibiza, London to Amsterdam. Their electric sets leave crowds feeling uplifted, spiritually awakening and totally in awe. Part of the success of Floorplan is the combination of Robert’s old school excellence and Lyric’s new school innovation: their music, with its big chords and even bigger vocal samples, could be 30 years old or fresh from the pressing plant, such is its universal sense of appeal.

Another new album is due on Aus Music in winter 2019 and once again distills the power of techno and feelings of house music with a certain sense of studio magic that emerges when this iconic father-daughter duo come together. It is rare to make music as stripped back yet emotionally enriched as Floorplan, but this pair do it with ease and a firm focus on durable grooves. Functional but full of form, tense but atmospheric, loopy but ever evolving, Floorplan truly transcend the dance music spectrum.

The story of the tracks made us reminisce of the rise of the loose beat, broken house of a few years back, while this one still feels very contemporary.

Josh Milan's phenomenal new vinyl series, based on the "Shapes, Color and Magic" EP. On his latest EP, Josh explores some of the most innovative jazz and dance music rhythms ever released on the label. "Acts 2 and 4" set the tone for a remarkable collection of instrumental songs that include such gems as: "9 Pound Hammer," "Peace," "God Is On My Side," "The Plight of the Square" and "First Graders."

You can hear hints of Milan's vocals throughout the project, but his lead vocals aren't the focus here. In "Shapes, Color and Magic," he pushes the boundaries and challenges our beliefs around danceable jazz music.

Kieron Ifill aka K15 has been releasing neck breaking music for quite a while now, wether on his own Esencia imprint or on established stables like Wild Oats, Eglo, Apron, Black Focus, WotNot and more recently Neroli. With the monikers K15 and Culross Close he has been honing his craft for years delivering a unique mixture of eclectic dancefloor grooves always infused with jazz elements, which clearly show his huge level of musical awareness. “Volume 1” is the first collaboration between Esencia and Mother Tongue, and prooves once again Kieron’s extreme sensibility and visionary approach with the songs ‘Elemental’ and ‘Intrinsic Value’. A jewel of a record and an instant classic so fitting for these trying times!

Melbourne based jazz musician Matthew Hayes began releasing his take on contemporary music via Albrecht La'Brooy's Analogue Attic imprint in 2017 and has since gone on to release an array of material both as a solo act, a number of collaborations and as part of the Zeitgeist Freedom Exchange project.
Here though we see Hayes joining the roster of Black Wattle, a Sydney based imprint headed up by Thomas Gray, one half of the Thomas Gray & Liam Ebbs duo who individually released material on the label, as well as the Analogue Attic imprint collaboratively.
Opening the release is 'Absolutely Everybody', fuelled by looming piano chords, plucked bass tones, sporadic brass licks and shuffled drums.
'Clear' follows next, laying focus on hazy vocal chants, cinematic piano and sax atmospherics and a choppy bass line throughout.
On the flip-side 'Head Pressure' leads, a beatless eight minute composition employing modulating textures, metallic percussion and dynamically unfolding melodies of piano, brass and bass all ebbing and flowing amongst one another.
