After a standout debut EP, South Italy based label, Soul Departure Recordings, present their second record compiling four mixes of the soulful house gem ‘Make Me Glow’ from label head, Kikko Esse complete with the unquestionable vocal talent of Venessa Jackson adding her special touch.

Deep soul-laden, piano-infused house goodness with a bubbling bass and soft summery trumpet flurries, Kikko invites Jackson to take this trip to another dimension with her sublime vocals. Kikko then serves up three mixes for every eventuality, a harder hitting club mix, a late night roller and a hazy, trip hop version.

Peckham MC & DJ Pinty is set to release his debut EP 'City Limits' this March on Rhythm Section International. Following the recent release of his debut single 'Tropical Bleu' , a laid-back broken-beat roller produced by friend and collaborator King Krule under his DJ JD SPORTS alias, Pinty has quickly become the talk of the town.

As the new voice of South London, Pinty's witty wordplay and effervescent club sound take influence from the introspective poetry of The Streets, the downbeat moods of King Krule and the jazz tinged house tones of production partner Maxwell Owin. Since his self-released 2015 mixtape, the ten-track spectacle 'Midnight Moods', he has also begun to make waves with his distinctly individual live performances, playing in Paris with hip-hop star Rejjie Snow, in New York with RATKING, and locally for the likes of Boiler Room and Just Jam. Features on Glenn Astro and Jamie Isaac tracks along with gracing the Autumn issue of the Peckham Peculiar round off a noteworthy rise to prominence.

Lead single 'Tropical Bleu' boasted the hallmarks of Marshall's late-night production coupled with Pinty's unique MC-led approach to the dancefloor.

Now 'Nightcrawler' presents a simmering nocturnal dance cut, charged with glowing bursts of deep house, candid lyrics and aself-directed video portraying a woozy tale of London's underbelly.

Flitting between hip hop, house, UKG, and darker electronic sounds, Bradley Zero's Rhythm Section International makes perfect sense for Pinty's debut release, which takes its title from a prolific early 2000's South London graffiti legend. With deeply personal lyricism and wry humour, 'City Limits' adds colour to a mostly grey city. Music and creativity was a core part of Pinty's youth, his dad was a poet and older brother an MC during the golden age of garage and jungle. Fast forward to 2019 and he's part of a dynamic collective of producers, singers, musicians and rappers, as well as hosting radio shows on influential stations Reprezent and Balamii.

Already a major pull in the capital, 'City Limits' marks Pinty's graduation from local sensation to international proposition, as he prepares to fly the nest of the city that spawned him.

Matteo Boyero and the People Inside my Computer presents 'Les Robots de Mono', an eclectic and fruity 6 track LP inspired and created by various artists from the Wahever vaults.

As part of the ten-year anniversary Dekmantel presents the final record in a ten-part-EP series. Split into two parts due to its immensity, the final instalment is a re-issue of Tony Allen's 'Asiko (In A Silent Mix)' originally released in 1999 and remixes by Motor City Drum Ensemble and Ricardo Villalobos. The first part features a grandiose 29-minute Ricardo Villalobos version of the Afrobeat master's cut. A true collaboration of giants.

Having been a regular at the festival for several years now, Villalobos delivers a remix, one of his longest to date, that only he can produce. Allowing the percussion to breathe into a monumental rhythm, Villalobos warps the vocals, restructuring the bass and drums into a rolling dub-fusion of techno that is characteristic of his remixes to date, yet still breathtaking in its execution. Afrobeat-minimalism, with dub-infused fire, and near psychedelic ambience that perfectly synchs the worlds of Tony Allen, and Ricardo Villalobos, two legends who've helped re-shape the face of music.

Highlighting the diversity of sounds that have come to represent the Dutch label and festival series, the EPs to date have encompassed a range of artists and genres, featuring label favourites, as well as whole bunch of debuting artists. The EP series kicked off in March 2018, and over the course of a year featured the likes of Gigi Masin, Lena Willikens, Burnt Friedman, Donato Dozzy, The Egyptian Lover, Palms Trax, and more.

Exclusive vocal c/w instrumental mixes of Betty Lou Landreth’s ‘I Can’t Stop’ on this lead-single for the forthcoming Backatcha re-release of Betty Lou Landreth's in-demand 1979 album, "Betty Lou” (cat# BK037 – to be announced). Expanded to a double album, it features the original studio recordings along with bonus material and alternative takes. The late Betty Lou Landreth had already paid her singing dues long before she walked into Studio A at Detroit’s Superdisc, touring with the USO and performing with R&B and Jazz players on the live circuit.

‘I Can’t Stop’ producers Joel Palmer and Charlie Gabriel recruited some of Motor City’s top fellow musicians for the session, including Gabriel’s longtime friend and housemate, trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, arranger Travis Biggs, drummer J.C. Heard, Motown Funk Brothers’ pianist Joe Hunter and trumpeters Herbie Wilson and John Wilson, keys player Emmanuel Riggins, bassist Hubie Crawford, the Body sisters and many more.

Soulful house legend Timmy Regisford brings his trademark sound to DJ Spen & Thommy Davis' Quantize Recordings.

'Falling In Love' is a sumptuously sizzling heater, marrying Regisford's classic soul-laden production with Tiger Wilson's sensuous vocals. It's a combination that will ease any pains, calm any worries and bring a smile to the face, bottling up that sunshine feeling for those darker days when a little lift is needed.

Timmy then offers up three mixes to bring a real versatility to the e.p. First up, the 'Instrumental Mix' that lets Regisford's bumping bass, jazzed up piano, swelling strings and spiritual keys do the talking. Secondly, the 'Alternative Vocal Mix' switches the percussion of the original opting for more congas, shakers and bongos whilst leaving the claps at bay to give a deeper interpretation of the original. The final mix then drops the vocals of this alternate version completing what is a standout e.p. from Timmy Regisford that captures the essence of 2018's summer of love.

After his first adventure in the endless universe of instrumental music where he made known “Man With a Plan” in 2018, Minus & MRDolly now presents the new EP Broken Hearts Make Broken Beats. This new work is the result of a recording session at the Groove-Wood studios promoted by João André - who mixes two of the three originals of the EP - to which Hugo Danin joined on drums and Sérgio Alves on keyboards and electric piano. In trio, Minus, Hugo and Sérgio rearranged and explored the original sketches, previously composed by Minus & MRDolly.

Floating, or as if to say, with one “foot inside and the other outside” of his so familiar home that is Hip Hop, “BHMBB” is the reflection of some musical references previous to that house, where “Britfunk” or “Broken Beat” serves as an example. This EP intends to marry the acoustic character of the interpretation with the aesthetic and electronic universe of dance music.

“Salame”, “The Break” and “A Thousand Miles”, the three originals that make up the EP Broken Hearts Make Broken Beats, also count on the participation of percussionists Manu Idhra and Rui Ferreira, the voice of Mary Raisekings, and the Pardal saxophone. The theme "The Break" has remixes by Pedro and Max Graef.

Rising/Falling marks multi faceted artist Daze Maxim aka Markus Manowki's second full length LP since 2000's Same Place The Bot Got Smashed. The album's title refers to the breathing exercises of meditation; something that by chance Daze begun at the same time as the LP's conception. This additional balance and clarity allowed the album to develop harmoniously, and paved the way for completion. There is also a nod to reflexivity as although this discipline provided necessary solace, it also demanded greater engagement. The overall aesthetic is unquestionably true to the minimal framework Daze has meticulously crafted over the past 15 years. A playground of intermittent tempo and hybrid organic electronica, harmony builds whilst dissonance prevails. There is maturity and guts in the selection and delivery of each part's piece in the puzzle, and a true viral beauty as it gains momentum. What is immediately striking about the album in full is its brooding space and progression. From ambient tones and warped classic synths, to rigorous live instrumentation, the sonic palette enriches as the odyssey continues. Much akin to a camera lens drifting in and out of focus, Daze toys with periodic collapse and elongated movements, but always pulls the listener back through percussive punctuation. The collaborations featured on the record occurred naturally, however the sessions played out differently. Sloth's unique trumpet work on the opener is a entirely improvised workout without specific key or time signatures. In contrast Yonatan, a classically trained jazz musician from Tel Aviv now residing in NYC, added bowed and fingered double bass to an already arranged work.

2nd is the second album of Italian electronic music composer Giuseppe Ielasi under the Inventing Masks moniker. In comparison to the first Inventing Masks album from last year, 2nd is texturally much richer, even luxurious. Ielasis' generative beats evolved into polyrhythms that give IM2 an air of restrained funkiness, not unlike fellow composers Jan Jelinek or Andrew Pekler. It seems Giuseppe Ielasi enventually found his very own niche.

Bosconi Extra Virgin is proud to launch the first vinyl release by Japanese duo Spangleman formed by Tsukasa Kato and Ataru Nishizaki. Their Brown EP is a 5 tracker of ultra minimalistic and sophisticated house jams!! First cut is "Jimmy", a broken swingy jazzy track with a deep aquatic rhodes and a slap bass, chasing each other all along the track, reminding some of the Trimsound or Tom Ellis early works. Second track of A side goes more straight into an hypnotic deep house track.. which still maintains it's jazzy approach with an original arrangement from beginning to end. The welcoming sound of "Ubi-Quitous" opens the B side, a broken dubby tune reminding early 90's atmospheres a la Nightmares on Wax.. follows up the ultra dry deep after hour track "Illusion" sounding like a real jazz jam with drums and contrabass where a quirky voice appearing from time to time, brings you back to reality! The EP ends with the freaky minimal Chicagoish jam "Chi This Ma" , a puzzle of chopped voice and acid samples stuck together so well like only Akufen could do.. Hard to define a sound for this release, could be Minimal, Detroit Jazzy house.. or more simply just Gentleman's house music!

The then 16-year old Starcount recorded those two stripped-down cuts straight to DAT tape in
his bedroom studio in Athens during the late 90s between cutting classes and sailing in the Aegean Sea.

Despite his young age both "Calma" and "Jeraldine" showcase top notch production skills with solid arrangements featuring the typical vocal samples of the period underlined by hypnotic melodies,
jazzy chords and a densely populated pallet of drum hits. It is most likely that the above mentioned tracks might be the earliest Detroit influenced productions ever made in Greece around that time!

Pont Neuf Records, 5 years later



In 2016, Pont Neuf Records was born, with the mission of supporting the emergence of a new scene of electronic artists in France. Its first release “Habemus Paname”, bringing together artists like Folamour, Tour-Maubourg and Sweely, marked the label’s first success, accompanied by a launch party in the lair of the legendary Rex Club in Paris. Since then, no less than 25 releases - EPs, compilations, albums - have forged the identity of Pont Neuf, recognized in 2019 by Mixmag as ‘‘one of the French scene’s most essential imprints’’. A success crowned by two years of residence at the Rex Club, and many participations in the major European electronic music venues (Concrete, Elrow, Sisyphos, La Cabane ...). 5 years later, the label continues to evolve, driven by the talent and originality of artists with unique personalities and eager to leave their mark on a generation.

In order to make this release even more powerful and valuable we asked Ricky to step in to his James L'Estraunge Orchestra pseudonym and transform (remix sounds so limiting) the track into something completely different.
The result is something truly magical, a huge live jazz-funk escapade that sounds like if The Rotary Connection and Charles Stepney went on an orchestral late 70's jazz-funk-fusion journey...it's big, epic and full of musical surprises !

Scottish producers Ricky Reid (The James L'Estraunge Orchestra, RK Fusion, The True Rebels) and Craig Smith (6th Borough Project) are Soul Renegades, a duo that between themselves has more house history than most of us.
With early releases dating back to the 90's they previously got music out on classic labels like Restless Soul and Rainy City.

Detroit artist Javonntte’s third album for Ten Lovers Music continues the theme set by the 2019 album No Rush and the 2020 album Runaway Galaxy. Flight 77 is full of summer jazz fusion grooves for the dancefloor now the world is getting back to something like normal. Javonnttes unmistakeable trademark sound runs through all the tracks on this album with Annette being a tribute to his mother who introduced him to jazz. Free Your Soul written by Caruso and Javonntte rounds off the album with a reprise by label boss Steve Conry.

Down & Out is the first studio based album produced by Joe Newham , released under the stage name Gavinco. This album is a electronic production with the combination of an Acid Jazz instrumentation alongside. The album consists of eight tracks that include a varied amount of musical genres from Acid Jazz , Deep House , Downtempo & Electronica.

The eighth chapter of the Apparel Wax saga brings with it, as always, a multitude of sounds and suggestions. The masked producer always manages to renew himself, bringing something new and special to each record but always remaining faithful to his musical line. APLWAX008 will be released in January and consists of four tracks: the first is a track with a very marked dynamics and is characterized by a solid rhythm section, a bass line that recalls the UK garage, vocal samples and a beautiful harmonic evolution produced by evolving chords. The second track, A2, winks at Jazz and Soul with a production rich in rhythmic virtuosity, keyboard solos and an almost hypnotic vocal loop while the second side starts with B1, which takes us back to an imaginary dancefloor with a powerful beat and airy disco chords. The EP closes with B2 that softens the tones giving a more intimate, classy and deep end, with references to Funk and R&B. In short, an EP that touches many genres while remaining compact as a whole. Another small masterpiece of production and music selection by Apparel Wax.
