For the second chapter of his odyssey, we find again Le Commandant Couche Tôt in the middle of the Amazon River, escaping from drones and wildfires in a hovercraft.
Une Histoire d’Amour Brésilienne (A brazilian love story) shares a dystopian vision widely inspired by the environmental issues of 2020 and 2021, which illustrates a form of anxiety toward the future.
Its soundtrack however is purposely the antithesis of the story: a very optimistic tribute to space-disco and brazilian funk. A “good vibe” pill to give hope for a new beginning.

Since 2017’s ‘Song For Mr Lewis EP’ on Phonica White, Austin Ato has dropped stunningly funky 12”s with ease on many respected house labels including Classic Records and Defected. We were waiting for the right track for his follow-up on Phonica White and when we heard ‘When Love Is Tender’, we knew it was the one - a huge disco house based on an obscure Philadelphia-style jam.

It’s the simplicity of the original mix that sets the tone with pumping and driving Disco drums backed to roof raising saxophone licks and soulful vocal snippets, with those all-important deeply moving Philly string samples that are restrained when necessary and released at all the right moments, especially when the drum drops. ‘All Night Long’ highlights Austin Ato’s sample chopping expertise. The drums roll effortlessly through the track as dusty Soul and Disco samples echo and repeat, conjuring sonic memories of Andrés and Pépé Bradock’s best work.

Lee Gomez aka Wipe The Needle has made music in many complimentary styles.
His debut on Local Talk featured Alex Littmore's soulful vocals and took us on journey that goes beyond the house genre.

This time his bruk roots are heavily featured, sprinkled with a touch of soul, jazz and boogie to create an impressive collection of songs.

This next Toy Tonics EP takes one more step into a futuristic sound that connects Broken Beat, House & Neo Soul.
The EP was produced by Fényan. France based dancer and producer (originally from Martinique) who hooked up with Kosmo Kint.
Soul singer raised in New York and since one year part of The Toy Tonics crew in Berlin.

Fenyan & Kosmo Kint met shortly after Kosmo Kint’s first release on Toy Tonics (the „Get lost“ EP with french producer Mangabey). Together they created three magic sparkling pieces of music. A unique sound inspired by the UK Jazz sound and the broken beat scene. A great further step in the evolution of uptempo Neo Soul dancemusic.

Fényan’s rhythms are special. The groove is unique. This music makes you dance differently. No wonder as Fenyan (his real name is Kwame) is a professional dancer.
He is travelling around the world teaching dancing with his own dance company and is a judge on international dance battles. Besides dancing he has ben producing beats since the age of 19 on his MPC. Influencd by the great names of deep jazz and fusion, but also inspired by the music from his origin Martinqiue: Zouk, Biguine, Bélè… you can feel this in the programming of his beats.

Besides the MPC Fenyan tried many instruments, but mainly it’s the keybaords and the trumpet what he feels well with intuitivly.
Kosmo Kint lives in Berlin since three years. He came from NYC where he was singing in Soul bands, hanging out with musicians and also writing songs for other artists. he is one of the many artists that moved from the big apple to Berlin recently. He joined the Toy Tonics crew almost 2 years ago to work on new styles between House and Soul. Disco and R&B. In fact there is a big movemnt of international top musicians coming to the German capital. Its not just DJs in Berlin. But a huge community of ex-pad musicians working on all kind of styles. Mixing the european electronic dancefloor music with all kinds of vibes and influences. And many of these musicians find a new home on Toy Tonics records.

Emotional Rescue reaches its 100th reissue in its 10th year with a landmark, a collection of previously unreleased songs from Brenda Ray. Encouraged and cajoled since the label's inception, Brenda Ray's (Kenny) music has gone from cult curio to cult status in that time, as her mix of DIY/post punk, dub reggae, jazz and pop transcends reached admiring audiences.

Following the completion of Naafi Sandwich in 1985 and the subsequent recordings as Brenda And The Beach Balls - the sought after Volume 1 LP in 1986 and three singles on Siren/Virgin in 1987/88 - her releases might of stopped for almost two decades but she never stopped recording.

The 10 songs show not only continuous activity in her North-West home studio, but to be consistently creative, moving forward and relevant. Hip-Hop, Street Soul and House all feature alongside Brenda's unmistakeable Be-Pop-Dub-Pop song writing. Working as always with partner Gerry Kenny aka Sir Freddie Viadukt, plus a cohort of friends joining across the sphere.

Starting with 'Universal Purpose', poet and friend Eugene Lange delivers a lanquid breakbeat-dub sermon on struggle and love, as Brenda's vocals accompany. 'Spirit's So High' captures House music's dawning optimism to perfection, a swirling, uplifting 4.30 minutes as you'll ever hear. The doo-wop shuffle of 'MMMMoon Warp' experiments with Coldcut-lite sampledlica cut ups, alongside Brenda's unmistakable breathing-singing delivery, before 'Love's The Most' and 'Hope' are classic Ray love sentimental paeans, backed with latter day Balearic musicality.

Eugene Lange returns with the rap attack of 'Dancehall Exocet'. A conscious poetic stream over "Minister of Noise" industrial beats with backing and counter from Brenda, shows the breadth she was exploring at this time. Crude synth bass and chiming 4/4 percussion follow on 'This Was No Dream' with soft, humming vocals encapsulating some proto-house romantic escapism, before Eastern influences mix with flute, strings, bells and a doo-wop skiffle on the aptly named 'Tequila Sam'.

The album closes with a nod to what's gone before, in 'Return Of The Theme From A Tall Dark Stranger', an update on her "Volume 1" classic, all is replayed, overlayed and "mad"-mixed, Brenda's studio mastery shining through. An acoustic return of 'Love's The Most' bring the album to completion, but this is by no means the end but hopefully, the start of more undiscovered and discovered mini-masterpieces from Brenda Ray and friends to see the light of day.

As a prominent R&B/Soul singer, songwriter, and producer In the realms of House Music, Angela has established a well-respected career collaborating and penning songs for some of the most notable DJs and producers in the industry: Roger Sanchez, Reel People, Dave Lee & the Sunburst Band, Josh Milan, DJ Spinna, Micky More & Andy Tee to name a few. In 2020, Johnson placed fourth on Traxsource’s “Top Vocalists of 2020,” an honor that Angela does not take lightly. Her successful collaboration with OPOLOPO on the remake of The Brand New Heavies classic, “Stay This Way” has opened more doors for Ms. Johnson. With this boost, she’s ready to take things to the next level whether it’s another vocal feature or a self-produced release. The title song Inclusion, which was also written, produced, and performed by Angela Johnson; caught the attention of prolific producer, Grammy wining-one and only Brian Bacchus. Brian brought the song to Joaquin Joe Claussell and the rest is history… There are many great things that we would love to share about what became of this the powerful collaboration, but we will let the music speak on it for itself. Second release from Takashi Nakazato on Ten Lovers Music following last years amazing Clandestina album which had some incredible guest appearances from Luisito Quintero and Roberto Quintero amongst others. This time Takashi introduces his band Galavanters where he is joined by his fellow member: Soncho - Trombone and Shakuhachi, Toshitaka Shibata - Keyboards, Kenichi Fukushima - Tenor Saxophone, Ryozo Obayashi - Bass, Ippei Sawamura - Drums.

Takashi provides the percussion and also wrote, produced and mixed the whole EP which is an amazing journey through Japanese inspired modern jazz fusion. All four tracks showcase the wealth of talent in this sextet of musicians.

Detroit multi-instrumentalist Javonntte is back on Ten Lovers Music with yet another spot-on selection of jazz-influenced beatdown goodness. His previous LP on the label “No Rush” flew off the shelves, setting expectations real high for the follow up: “Run Away Galaxy” confirms once again Javonntte’s broad musical knowledge and skills, experimenting with diverse genres and sounds but always keeping his distinctive touch. Limited to 150 copies, these will go fast!

PETROS KLAMPANIS is a Greek bass player and when we heard his track “Chroma “on Bandcamp we had instantly the idea of a remix or working with him. The original track being live gives a sort of spontaneous vibe that really caught Alex ‘s attention and had the “edit / version” idea already in his head.

Without the shadow of a doubt this track was perfect to be remixed by a real musician who can understand complex jazz arrangement, so Jon Dixon came up. Jon loved the track too and did his thing. Two versions here for you to dive deep into jazz and electronic music. We hope you dig the sound of this project and enjoy the listening and maybe the dance experience with us. We will keep pushing forward the various styles and soulful grooves with an open mind and expand our visions.

The debut release on Local Talk from French multi-instrumentalist Laroye goes down two separate paths.
The main attraction 'Potion For Love' is a deep Detroit(ish) jam that's got both a raw edge and a musical and jazzy feel, a good combo! With a slight boogie bump, soulful vocals and that basement feel it is definitely one for the heads.

The L.A. Spacefunk dub takes things even deeper with some lush breakdowns and additional keyboard solos from the man himself and is a perfect rub to have in the DJ box.
The following track takes a very different route...over to New Jersey. 'Keep On' sounds like Kerri on a (very) good day but comes with additional musicality and bongo action from Laroye.

Omena hits release no.30 and celebrates by bringing in Twovi aka Vito Loperfido to the family.

Vito released his first track, 'Giango' on Bosconi Records back in 2017 and followed up with 'In Memory of Love', on Chez Damier's Inner Balance, a release that showcased his talent for blending classic house with a fresh approach.
Fast forward 2020 and we got a new release 'Panama' ready.
These four tracks show why Vito is leading the wave of musical talent coming from Italy and he's not afraid of using inspiration from different sources.

The opening track Panama is an ode to a jazzy KDJ breeze while Santiago is a clever broken beat track with a few latin vibes sprinkled on top.

On the flip, Manchester producer Contours continue to turn music into gold with a singular remake of Panama.
It's a deep and rich version with his signature percussions included.
Last but not least Lima ends this fine EP, a track which takes us back to the golden days of Nuphonic.

Going Good pair up, once more, with Detroit's Todd Modes (1/2 of Cosmic Handshakes) for a 4 tracker of discoid motor city music. Featuring a plethora of international and local Detroit musical talents and movers (including our very own Tokyo connect - Yoshinori Hayashi), the 'Serpent EP' is not typical of the majority of sonic output from the city. Eschewing techno archetypes and operating within a distinctly 'live' group scenario, Modes and his crew offer us an organic 4 tracker steeped in ritualistic studio jamming and mixing, explosive live percussion, whispered chants and vocals, heavy dub stylings and jazz infused keys work, all graced with blasts of skilful saxophone and a feeling of hazy smoked out groove that only a lifetime of digging $1 thrift store disco 12"s and basement mixing sessions can lead to. Yet another essential piece of fresh after-hours Motown music from this extremely talented camp of contemporary artists from the city.

Italian musician, producer and DJ, Lorenzo Morresi, returns to his newly formed SuperEclectic imprint with a brand new album 'Music For Closed Airports' that swiftly follows up on his recent successful outings on 22a and Fly By Night Music. Japan's Dai San returns with his second EP on GAMM and this time he goes on a jazzy escapade with three cuts ranging from Disco-Jazz, Fusion-Funk and deep Rare Grooves.

The A side begins with Sundance, a peak time Jap-Fusion Disco jam sounding like if it was Azymuth's Jazz Carnival twin sister...a definitive dancer for the jazzier crews.
On the flipside, Dai San goes deeper with a fusion-funk edit and a spaced-out jazz-glide.

As disco legends GIORGIO MORODER and CERRONE were pumping out disco hits in 1979 a lesser known BERNARD ESTARDY was releasing leftfield disco under aliases like ESTRAK LANCIOS, L.E.B. HARMONY, and UNIVERSAL ENERGY. Limited reissue with pic sleeve. Mystery colored vinyl.

Luke Fono makes quite an entrance on Local Talk with 4Real, featuring vocalist BB. James.

The song features a garage swing in its unstoppable rhythm and melting-wax chords, it's almost impossible not to smile and sing along when a track brings this kind of vocal melody and positive vibe expertly pieced-together.
You definitely can hear its soulfulness bleed through the track, an impressive achievement and well worth a listen.

Local Talk favourite Crackazat makes a welcome return and delivers a remix that includes all his trademarks, a bouncy groove, stabs and jazzy melodies worthy of a keyboard wizard.
It's effortlessly musical and delicate at the same time.

Eden Burns is back and brings along his old companion Christopher Tubbs. Together they follow the path of Ulysses, beguiled by Sirens, fed by by Bacchus they won’t stop until they have reached the highest of highs taking their place right next to Jupiter himself. Long live hedonsim!

This project is conceptually based around George Orwell's classic novel, 1984, backed with a remix from Perlon trio Wareika.

The original mix of 'Thought Crime' opens the package with murky atmospheric textures, skippy hat patterns and shuffled organic drums grooves driving the composition before the focal stages see the introduction of eerie piano chords, spoken word vocal samples and acid tinged bass which ebbs and flows within the depths. 'No Fear' follows next, laying focus on a bumpy drum groove, modulating synth swells, ethereal tension building pads and a snaking sub bass groove to create a dynamically unfolding, hypnotic cut.

Perlon's Wareika step up to rework 'Thought Crime' opens the flip-side, as always from this trio shining light on chuggy bass grooves and jazz tinged ever-unfolding drums whilst stirring in the original's eerie voices and choppy pianos to create a frenzied, dynamic feel throughout. 'Since 1984' next to round out the release, an interlude of sorts featuring a bubbling arpeggio, dreamy piano melodies and an amalgamation of swirling, dubbed out echoes spiralling amongst muted kicks.

musclecars, composed of Craig Handfield & Brandon Weems, are staples in NYC’s House scene and beyond, through their party-turned-label Coloring Lessons, effervescent sets on The Lot Radio, and increasingly acclaimed productions. Following a series of releases on both their Coloring Lessons and Toucan Sounds, their newest offering, ‘Shelter (Building It, Still)’ burrows deeper into their love of grooving, soulful sounds, featuring a remix from Prescription co-founder Ron Trent. The EP features beautiful deep house with lush keys, emotive saxophones, propulsive synths, and captivating vocals from previous collaborator Brandon Markell Holmes.

KX9000 is back with his fantastic universe between jazz-funk and disco-house. Behind this alias that one would believe straight out of a Japanese animated film, we find Kerim Ben Mustapha who has established himself since 2018 as “one of the most remarkable producers of the moment“ (Mixmag) with no less than 4 EPs on Pont Neuf, in Germany on Blaq Numbers or in Italy on Apparel Music. He returns with a new EP 2L84ME which explores a new neo-soul facet of the musical palette of the Parisian producer, while remaining faithful to his recognizable style.

Daniel Maunick returns with a new EP, Musica Encantada via Far Out Recordings. Continuing the theme of his debut album Macumba Quebrada – which saw support from the likes of Moodymann, Ron Trent, Gilles Peterson, and Benji B – Maunick draws on the deep-rooted Brazilian influences from the many years he has spent in the country, producing records with Azymuth, Marcos Valle, Sabrina Malheiros and Ivan 'Mamão' Conti.

The bossa-jazz house smash ‘Black Magic’ stays exclusive to the vinyl, while the percussive deep-house roller ‘A Chance To See Again’, the tight and groovy ‘Hurt Feelings’, and the slow-mo Brazilian Balearic ‘Africana’ will all see a limited vinyl and digital release on the 23rd October 2020.

In 1964 legendary Jazz icon Nina Simone released a new single "Mississippi Goddam", a song that marked her turn to political engagement with Civil Rights protest songs. It is the single's B-side that brings us here today, with a truly wonderful remake of "See-Line Woman" by Atjazz featuring Dominique Fils-Aimé.

Setting sail on a mammoth musical journey in 1995, Martin Iveson aka Atjazz has become well known over the world for his creativity & constant delivery of well-crafted music. Showing no signs of slowing down and having remixed many Foliage gems over the years, we are delighted to welcome Atjazz for a debut original production on the label.

Dominique Fils-Aimé is a Juno Award winning singer-songwriter hailing from Montreal, Canada.

Her musical inspiration draws from soul icons of the 40's and 60's such as Billie Holiday, Etta James and Nina Simone.

Dominique's sophomore album "Stay Tuned!" was released in February 2019 and brings to the centre of stage the resiliency of mankind in the face of adversity and oppression and pays homage to Afro-American history and culture.
