Harvey Sutherland returns today with new single 'Amethyst', a jazz-leaning broken beat odyssey born out of sessions with London-based saxophonist Nubya Garcia and drummer Kahlil Memphis. Harvey Sutherland has also been confirmed to open for Little Dragon at Printworks this November, in addition to lining up an intimate headline show of his own at X on X. 'Amethyst' is the first half of a double-A-side single; along with the second track to follow soon, it will be released on a limited edition 12-inch vinyl later this year.

'Amethyst' is the next step in an already-unpredictable career from Harvey Sutherland, a producer, DJ and funk synthesist from Melbourne. After steadily making a name for himself amongst Australia's bubbling electronic underground, Mike Katz began to make international waves in 2013 with a series of successful 12' records under his nom de plume. Blending a broad array of crate-digging influences, his initial EPs have already been championed by international tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx, Disclosure, The Black Madonna and Pete Tong. Sold-out shows with his impeccable live band followed around the world - including Glastonbury Festival, London's Jazz Cafe and Corsica Studios - alongside some unique side-projects: Harvey recently performed an original cinematic disco suite alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as well as directing an east coast Australian tour with an 11-piece band in support of New York disco icon Leroy Burgess.

From the time Harvey Sutherland began making music, he was influenced by dance music, but not comfortable inside its rules. Still rooted in soul, disco and funk, the modern techno universe was not exactly where he fit - and so (as he continues to today on 'Amethyst') Harvey instead sought to create a world of his own. 'Looking for songs in strange places', as he says, but in ways only Harvey Sutherland knows how to look.

Part one of this exploration proved to be 'Amethyst', a transcontinental collaboration with two musicians also at the peak of their scene: London-based saxophonist Nubya Garcia and drummer Kahlil Memphis. Garcia has earned acclaim for her expressive style of playing, which has afrobeat, hip-hop and grime influences seeped into its bones rather than worn like a badge. Memphis, meanwhile, glides through complex rhytms with ease, their edges roughened up by a sensibility lifted from London's pirate radio, around which Harvey Sutherland's cosmic synths and strings orbit.

'I wanted something that had a jazz feel and lightness that was still really informed by the London broken beat scene,' says Mike now. That it's jazz is secondary - what's exciting for Katz is exploring the 'exciting, ephemeral' sensation of 'interplay, the sound of people playing together.' And whilst 'Amethyst' might signal a more experimental evolution in Harvey Sutherland's sound, you also sense his desire to bring players, sounds and global scenes together into something exciting and new is only just getting started.

Eagerly awaited follow up to the first release, Tolga Fidan strikes back with 4 spacey tracks cleverly balancing electro, techno and house flavours with its trademark deep melodic signature.

Santa Clarita daydreamer Daniel Crook flipped his DX-7 to dent tuition at California Institute Of The Arts but while there fell in with a crew of fellow hardware heads and began making periodic pilgrimages downtown to soak the city's thriving warehouse scene. His own productions soon followed, inspired by the moodier fringes of LA's nocturnal underground as well as the 'dark gothic energy' of certain fatalist new wave.

Genesis spans 40 minutes across eight tracks, crisscrossing stained glass house, lovesick jack, and varied states of rhythm delirium into a raw, reflective self-portrait of empty streets and midnight memories. Crook's process is part planned and part exploratory, mapping melody in advance then ripping live takes at a table of synths in his bedroom. From cobwebbed dub-dance ('Serpent') to cyber-mechanical disco ('Move'), the songs feel intuitive and imprecise, grainy screengrabs of systems in flux.

Most are solo instrumentals but Crook's classmate Bludwork guests on the sci-fi sequencer trance 'Infrared' while local morbid beauty duo Morticia My Angel haunt the mic for 'Words Unspoken.' Even his own voice makes an appearance on 'Own Perceptions,' mixed into a glimmering grey haze, pulsing and poignant: 'I don't know what to do with me / no more.'

Contrary to the songs name, this interpretation of a traditional Afro-Brasilian candomble song, appears to be forged from mythical lost amazonian gold.
Recorded in Sao Paulo with an allstar cast of Arteria FM (on vocal duties), Salvador Araguaya (caressing the Viola Caipira) & Spaniol (stroking the Baixo), steered by Nicola's production prowess, this quartet delivers a melodic enhancement to the summer sun.

Optimo Music is delighted to release the new album from Lia Mice, Australian-born but UK-residing DJ, producer and instrument designer.

Here's a few words from Lia - "When I moved to London in 2015, many things changed at once - I started going to more techno and electro nights, I changed my live-set setup, and I had access to a fully-equipped recording studio through my music masters programme. At the same time I was reading a lot of books on time travel, not just science fiction but also psychology and neuroscience - like how the human brain perceives time from moment to moment, how we can experience overlapping time, and how we interact with our past and future through memory and imagination. 'The Sampler As A Time Machine' is the result of all these new influences coming together. The tracks were developed out of ongoing studio experiments interpreting these different ideas of time travel by using samplers and tape to re-sample and manipulate original music performed by me on various instruments including my voice."

We Will Fail is a project focused on pleasure of wandering. Field recordings, tape samples, synthesizers and electronic drum kits are mixed together to find some peculiar quality, referring to techno aesthetics. A person responsible for this project is Aleksandra Grünholz - a graphic designer, an amateur musician, an audioperformance artist. About LP "Verstörung 2.0" After we have reeased and nearly sold out "Verstörung " in six months, We Will Fail is comming back with something new. "Verstörung 2.0" LP is the first album continuation. During very intensive months after releasing her debut album Aleksandra Grünholz found time to work on some new compositions that are more drowned in intensive rhythms. Some tracks from the first album also have changed a little bit. That`s why the vinyl album "Verstörung 2.0" is somehow similar to earlier works by We Will Fail and on the other hand shows new tunes and marvellous new cover art.

Two years after the fizzing pulse of his debut Telo left an indelible mark on the experimental club scene, Gage returns to Crazylegs to deliver a personal statement bristling with dark energy: a six-track EP called Mercury. 'Most of the time making music is fun for me but at times it's therapeutic too. The tracks on Mercury are generally ones that have externalised recent frustrations in my personal life and I think that comes across when you listen back. I kinda removed myself from the outside world for a bit and it freed up a lot of the limitations I used to unknowingly place on my work' - Gage. Time moves quick in electronic music. Since Gage's 2014 breakthrough a whole generation of innovators has flourished - the likes of Murlo, Rabit, Bloom, Slackk, Mr. Mitch and Mumdance sending out loud signals amongst the ever-increasing noise. In that time, Gage has quietly carved his own identity as a creator and purveyor of oddball club music. Output has been irregular but always impressive, with notable remixes for Inkke and Mr. Mitch and his sleeper hit Bad Bitch with Kevin Jz Prodigy. But Mercury is Gage's loud signal: from the frenzied decay of Turbulence, via the deafening fizz of Gruellin to the breakneck elastic thump of Rochester Way, there's barely a familiar sound across its 20 minute expanse. It's intense, disorientating and at times it feels like it's tearing open at the seams. But like all great records, there's a fiercely unique sense of character that binds it from start to finish. Crazylegs is an independent record label from Bristol and Resident Advisor's label of the month November 2015 - home to a close-knit family of artists including Gage, Ziro, Bloom, TRC, Murlo, ISLAND and Deadboy.

Two Decades EP sees London producer Missing join the fold for the fourth installment of Five Fold's mandate "...releasing quality dance music free from genre and tempo constraints". Hailing from the heady days of the UK Jungle scene circa '94, followed by a host of releases as one half of the breaks duo C83 throughout the noughties, Missing re-emerges on the scene with four dancefloor fillers spanning UK bass house, garage/ jungle grooves and vocal deep house.

'Reflections' sets the tone with a bouncy bass house driver replete with references to Amens past. 'Like a Rush' ventures into classic deep house territory featuring the soulful vocals of Heidi Vogel (The Cinematic Orchestra). 'Incoming' drops peak-time big room bass house badness punctuated by a distorted tear-out jungle bassline set to a heavy 135bpm 4/4 beat. 'Last Orders at the Frog & Nightgown', a knowing nod to the birthplace of UKG and a sub bass-laden garage/jungle hybrid, closes out the EP to great effect.

Lovingly mixed down on an array of vintage analog gear and mastered at the legendary Metropolis studio, Missing's debut 12" on Five Fold Records signals a welcome return of this producers' sonic DNA recombined circa 2014.

Following on from the three highly-acclaimed CoOp Presents 'Selectors Assemble' compilation EPs from the past year, it's now time to focus on some of the individual talents from the ever-evolving movement. As the international foundation grows, we invite aboard the extremely talented Neue Grafik into the fold.

French producer, instrumentalist and DJ, Neue Grafik, has been building a strong rep for himself over the past few years, releasing records previously on labels such as Rhythm Section, 22a and Wolf Music. His sound is a hybrid of jazz, house, broken beat and hip hop, all with his unique geographical flavours of African ethnicity, Parisian roots and a love for London thrown into the mix.

So to the music - two brand new tracks, 'I Miss Something' and 'Bed Stuy's Mood', complete with remixes from EVM128, Danvers, Xtra Bruk and NameBrandSound (aka label bosses IG Culture & Alex Phountzi) respectively, making this one essential package for the bruk soldiers and beyond.

"I remember the first time I was at a CoOp party and met IG - I just said something like "unbelievable party, well done! Thank you, man". I didn't expect to be a part of this brilliant family a few months after that; it's totally insane to think about it now.

I began to hang properly with the CoOp fam during a DJ session at The Flex in East London. I was so happy to live in this moment; surrounded by these talented performers, artists and producers, excitedly talking about unreleased music on everyone's USB sticks.

This EP is a personal vision of the broken beat scene and my love for that. A meeting with artists who build my own taste, with friends keeping the same vibrancy and desire for this music. 'I Miss Something' and 'Bed Stuy's Mood' are two tracks dedicated to Porte Des Lilas (Paris), and Bedford-Stuyvesant (New York). One was made in my house, the other on holiday. These two tracks, as well as the remixes from the Selectors Assemble crew, represent a real and deep friendship."

Chewy Motto is a brand new label via R&S Records launching this summer. The imprint has evolved from the nocturnal lifestyles of their London based crew over the last 12 months. Audio will be coming from multiple genres, genders and geographical locations from within the underworld of the electronic scene. Run by Chewy + Motto; the trips, the highs and the lows will be represented across the catalogue with a helping handful of spirulina magic from their good pal and visual artist Gasius.
First out of the gate, Chewy Motto presents the debut EP from Quays. The Swoo EP is the first toe in the water of official releases from the London based, NYC-hailing, artist, following several regarded singles in underground electronic circles and the ethereal 9174106948 mixtape for Dis Magazine.
The EP draws influences from garage, R&B and techno but his detached approach keeps enough distance from any strict affiliation and focuses on melody and modern production techniques to transmit his music with ease to the dancefloor. 'Stay With Me' leads the four track release and serves to punctuate a perfect introduction to Quays' sound. As comfortable working solo in the studio as alongside vocalists and musicians, the producer is rapidly assembling a catalogue of incredible music to release to the wider world. Widely respected for his interesting and experimental side projects, The Horrors synthesist Tom Furse has today released an album of instrumentals, recorded entirely on the Teenage Engineering OP-1 synthesiser - only the second album of its kind in existence. Created in just one week, Tom Furse's 'Interludes' is a fun snapshot of his exploration of this technology, capturing the results how and when they happened, and presented in the order they were made.Interludes' began as an experiment in producing short pieces of music for use on his NTS radio show, but Tom soon realised he'd inadvertently crafted an album's worth of work. Created between 9th-16th July of this year, the 16 track album was recorded in the order of the final track-listing, with each piece informing the next. It is intended to be enjoyed as a whole, a reaction against the idea of the 'dying album'.All music was improvised and recorded using only an OP-1 synthesiser - a newly acquired piece of music-technology esoterica that works more like a video game that a recording device. On the process, Tom comments:In many ways my unfamiliarity with the OP-1 was key, I had no ingrained habits and a decades worth of experience with synthesisers was somewhat irrelevant in front of a device that used, for instance, physical models of a tombola as a sequencer, or a driving game as a filter. This was not familiar territory, but simultaneously the whole process was very intuitive."
The pieces of music on 'Interludes' are not songs - they are part of a continuing investigation into alternative musical form and a dissolution of preconceived notions of genre, style and structure. Tom explains, "This is the musical area that intrigues me the most, and it's more recent creep into the mainstream has been both fascinating and inspiring to watch. Due to the primitive, 4 track cassette-like interface of the recording section of the OP-1, complicated arrangements were not really possible, so instead I committed to simple loops and keyboard passages, just trying to capture a moment. Without the luxury of careful editing, this meant getting it right first time or starting again all over - a far cry from my previous decade of experience using Ableton, with its many modern conveniences". To partner with 'Interludes', Tom has created visuals for the entire album. Again using unfamiliar technology, Tom spent a week experimenting with video synthesisers and animation, an entirely new field for him. The result is a lo-fi visual trip, matching perfectly the grainy sound of the album.'Interludes' is out now digitally via Kaya Kaya Records, and will be available on vinyl on 18th November via Tom Furse's own label, Mind Meld Recordings. There will be a release party held at Brilliant Corners in Dalston, London on 22nd November, with DJ sets from Tom Furse, Pete Fowler and Cherish Kaya - all welcome.

Rephlex producer EOD drops a mind-bending fifteen track debut album on Bjarki's bbbbbb this June.

Born in Trondheim, Norway, Stian Gjevik is a rarity amongst electronic music producers. Possibly the most interesting musician representing the braindance and IDM sounds of today, EOD's productions have landed on labels like We´Me` Records, sleepers, cpu, 030303 and Aphex Twin's highly respected Rephlex. Dropping on bbbbbb last year, his 'Swurlk EP' sold out within a month and received support from Aphex Twin, Bicep, Bjarki, Nina Kraviz and many more.

'It's the album I've wanted to do since I started making music - feels like a dream come true. Inspired by what got me into electronic music in the first place; jungle and early '00s Warp/Rephlex "drill & bass"-type stuff, but shifted through my own EOD-style lens. Oh yeah and loads of lovecraft references because I love those.' - EOD

A must-listen for fans of sublime synth-driven cuts, otherworldly beatless affairs and frenetic, machine- driven jams, EOD's 'Named' is a refreshing and highly anticipated debut long player from a true master of his craft.

Footshooter is the moniker of London based producer, DJ and musician Barney Whittaker. His style blends skippy, broken beat production with live instrumentation to create an organic, rich sound and he frequently collaborates with emcees, poets and vocalists exploring different tones and moods.

His last record, Strange Days EP (released on Famous Friends), gained regular plays on NTS, Balamii, WorldWide FM and, most recently, by Bonobo in a DJ set at his NYC Boiler Room.

'Technicolour Nights', due out on YAM Records later this year, is a meditation on long evenings & nights out and how they vary in atmosphere, mood and colour. Opening with the aptly named and ethereal 'Intro', the EP quickly jumps into sunshine territory with 'Juan's Stairwell' before 'On Telegraph Hill' brings the heads down for a meditative two-step groover to close up the A-side.

On the flip, Footshooter flexes his 160bpm muscles on 'Mars' with the help of London based vocalist and MC And Is Phi, before dropping the tempo just a touch on 'Rotations', a steppy, Rhodes-laden journey through London nightlife. 'Our Love' lowers the tempo even further to bring the EP to a close on a bittersweet note.

Ivan Iacobucci joins PURISM's collective delivering three unusual pieces of soulish techno influenced electronica. The amazing dreamy 'Astrovibe' on the B side titles release. Another quality number for eclectic minds.

Slowing down the pace on Powerhouse, Autarkic hints at moments of Bauhaus' and Tones on Tail's doom and dance pop, while offering up a digital only, stripped down, bonus version. The title track stands as a testament to this new wave of artists, coming from the shores of Israel's Mediterranean coastline. The Empire strikes back! Phi has dug deep into the Slovenian electronica heritage only to return with the 4th chapter containing three mid 90's unreleased tracks by the cult duo Random Logic. Once the pioneers of adventurous acid and techno sounds having released on labels such as Thee Blak Label and having played in legendary places like the old Ostgut Ton, Random Logic are no strangers in playlists by the braver big shots such as Nina Kraviz. Their signature acid melancholy and drive hasn't aged and syncs perfectly with Phi's growing sci-fi catalogue.

Manchester's OURTIME MUSIC return with something of a electronic masterpiece ! After a 14 year hiatus, Salford's elusive cosmic composer returns to his Sonic Insomniac guise with a debut LP of the finest underwater electro & crisply rendered electronica As always, super limited !!

BEPPE LODA is back with OBSCURE ITALIAN SPACE PROG. This is the 2nd release on GAIL FORCE DISCO RECORDS which explores rare tracks that blur the line between disco and prog rock from 70's and 80's Italy.

Sardinian born, Berlin based producer Hubble is known to create implicitly ethereal moods. His way to keep people off guard as well as making a musical commitment through long excursion is unique to him. On this EP titles "La Rencontre" (eg. Meeting), he crosses paths with his Romanian friend Tulbure. Somehow managing simultaneous dissonance and concretion; 'La Rencontre' could be the soundtrack to both your birth and death. It is a boxer who's mastered the ring, and punch by punch you realize that it has you beat, but you are happy to wave a white flag and succumb to its presence.

Tulbure's track Condor is more of a mindcluster robotic swing that leaves you muted. While both tracks work together, this release is meant to be two variables of parallel worlds of these talented artists.

Kalita Records and CC:EDITIONS (a new venture by
Australia's CC:DISCO) jointly announce a 12' EP
comprised of four of Nana Tuffour's greatest electronic
burger highlife tracks, accompanied by interview-based liner
notes. Here, in partnership with Nana, we select two highly
sought-after songs from his 1993 release 'Genesis', namely
'Sikyi Medley' and 'M'Anu Me Ho', and pair them his with two
lesser known yet equally deserving tracks 'Asamando' and
'Jesus' from his 1997 CD-only release 'Highlife Tropicana'.
Hailing from Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti region in Ghana,
Nana Tuffour is by far one of the most important exponents of
modern highlife music. He studied piano at college and cut his
teeth in the '70s as an organist and vocalist for the incomparable
Kyeremanteng Atwede and Dr. K Gyasi's Noble Kings Band.
Fast forward to 1981 and Ghana was at the apex of its golden age
of music. This era was brought to an abrupt end by political
upheaval when the military took over the government and as a
result a restrictive dusk to dawn curfew was imposed between
1982 and 1984. This resulted in a total obliteration of the country's
night life, and Nana just like many other prominent musicians
including Pat Thomas and George Darko left Ghana for greener
pastures, the most popular destinations being Nigeria and
Germany. The Rheinklang Studio in Düsseldorf run by a young
inimitable German sound engineer Bodo Staiger and another
'exiled' Ghanaian musician Charles Amoah played a crucial role
for those musicians who had chosen Germany. This studio
became the focal point for Ghanaian musicians and the birthplace
of a new sound, now known as 'Burger highlife' - traditional
Ghanaian highlife infused with the more up to date electronic and
disco sounds of the West. It is arguable that Nana has played a
crucial role in Burger highlife and developing the sound of
traditional Ghanaian highlife more widely to what it is today, with
his innovative use of electronic accompaniment pushing its
boundaries to its creative extremes.
It is Burger highlife's transcendence of traditional musical
boundaries that helps make it so accessible to listeners,
appealing not only to Ghanaians back home but now highly
regarded and sought-after by those in the West interested in
more occidental disco and electronic sounds. We hope that you
enjoy the four songs offered here, each chosen to demonstrate
Nana's singular influence on the development of Burger highlife.

As the title suggests, Rejuvenate marks a rebirth for South London musician Paul White. Abandoning sampling altogether, White wrote, played and produced all of Rejuvenate's music himself, and the result is an album of playful, psychedelic pop.

It would have been far easier for White - previously described as a 21st century DJ Shadow, often compared to Madlib and best known as Danny Brown's go-to producer - to construct an album of loop-based, hip-hop-orientated beats. Instead, taking an ambitious left turn, he worked on honing his songwriting and instrument playing abilities and embarked on creating a totally original record worthy of sitting alongside those he'd usually sample.

Rejuvenate's broad sonic palette includes cosmic rock, ambient, electronic, jazz, folk and more. Retaining a groove-heavy, psychedelic aesthetic throughout, White successfully melds these various influences in to his most cohesive, fully-realised offering yet.

Paul White is joined on this sonic trip by a trio of likeminded souls; British-Jamaican singer Denai Moore adds heartwarming, crystalline vocals to the aptly named Set The Tone and See Through, Zimbabwean musician and poet Shungudzo (aka Shun) shares nuggets of wisdom on Spare Gold and dreamy, melting vocals for Ice Cream Man. White reunites with his sister, Sarah Williams White, and the pair draw on childhood memories for Laugh With Me and All Around.

Paul White's previous output includes a treasure trove of mostly instrumental solo records, plus collaborations with Charli XCX, Jehst, Homeboy Sandman, Guilty Simpson, Jamie Woon, Obongjayar, Eric Biddines (as Golden Rules) and Open Mike Eagle. More recently, White reconnected with frequent collaborator Danny Brown, producing most of the Detroit rap maverick's mind-blowing Atrocity Exhibition album.
