Abstand is a duo project by Martin Brugger and Simon Popp, both members of the Munich-based jazz group Fazer. On their debut 12 Opek they provide off-kilter polyrhythmic percussion psychedelia, layering live and unedited drum tracks blended with sparse electronics that add a subtle Middle Eastern tint. On the B side we're treated with a remix by Stefan Schwander aka Harmonious Thelonious. The Salon des Amateurs denizen serves us a pulsating and more club-leaning take showing why he can always be trusted with turning live percussion into bold, hypnotic jams for the perceptive clubgoer. The Munich-Duesseldorf axis has once again been proven fertile and we will likely hear more coming out of that connection.

"I met Marcell at a gig I played at Karlstorbahnhof in Heidelberg earlier this year, he was serving beers behind the bar all night, it was a fun but not so busy party. The club shut the doors early and we were holed up in this old train station-come-club having a few drinks into the early hours. We sat down, chewed the fat and bonded over Jungle (and UK music in general). Marcell's buddy Phillip was insistent on me checking out his tunes through a small little bluetooth speaker!!! and these sorts of scenarios never quite play out how you'd like them too right! Omar Akhrif, Donald and Brun are an Italian trio who gave life to the Big Morning Records project, which follows the homonymous after party.
Solenoid 29 is the alias they wanted to use for this first EP, which contains 3 tracks that merge a nervous but elegant mix of techno, house and electro sounds.
Plus a track remixed in a Dreamy way by the infamous spatial artist Etienne.

Jacques Greene kehrt mit seiner ersten offiziellen Musik seit seinem Debütalbum "Feel Infinite" (2017) zurück - eine Platte, die mit zahlreichen Auszeichnungen und Nachahmungen den Zeitgeist eingefangen hat. "Fever/Focus" ist eine brandneue 6-Track-EP, aufgeteilt auf zwei 12" Vinyle, die seine bisher beste Musik enthält: eine Fusion aus analogem und digitalem House und Techno mit einer verstärkten melodischen Sensibilität. Auf der Lead-Single 'Avatar Beach' hören wir schimmernden gebrochenen Trance und das frühe Tech-House der späten 90er Jahre gestreckt und zurückgedreht in eine brandneue Electronica.

Planet Battagon are innovators in Droid Jazz. Electronics, jazz and outer-national sounds ain't no new thing. But following in the extra terrestrial sounds and cosmic mythology of Sun Ra, Planet Battagon are not reaching for the cosmos but simply made of it. Droid consciousness is the starting point but what's consciousness got to do with it. The droid's need culture, music and art and of the highest and most experimental of that lies Droid Jazz.

Originating on Lord Battagon's home planet the group are documenting the folklore and jazz stylings of the Trans-neptunia neighbourhood out on the edgelands of the solar system. This debut release follows on from a Lord Battagon outing on the Atlantic Jaxx label. 'Who's out on Quaoar' is taken from the Ltd Ed 12' 'Battagon Symphony', part one of 'The Rough Guide to Trans-Neptunia'. The release also features 'Salacians of Neptunia', a homage to the early droid cultural pioneers and the chant like 'Moon of Dysnomia' that is played ceremonially to temper the erratic saline tides of the aforementioned moon especially during its retrograde period. Droids and saline do not mix well and OntheCorner are releasing these 'Rough Guides to Trans-Neptunia' after intercepting distressed transmissions prior to a
devastating saline tide.

Sonny's Plastic Worlds EP illustrates the diversity of his production. He seamlessly mixes dream house sounds with moody vocal elements. The opener 'Be 4 Me' is made for a grand space. On A2 the eponymous track 'Plastic Worlds' is a journey into Balearic sounds, perfectly arriving in time for warm summer days. 'Kropssprog' elegantly references the masters of Italian dream house, with deep atmospheric soundscapes.'Desert Days' is a moody crossover into electronic pop music, featuring his own vocals.

Computer says 'mmm!' to this electro 5-tracker from Binaural, the second release on Lisbon label Dream Ticket. Jasper de Jong serves up big portions of wry kraft-funk on the A, followed by jazzy afters both smooth and crunchy on the B. Matched wines are a must.

AAN ZEE or "By The Sea" is the name of a music studio led by Chris Taylor a multi instrumentalist from Canada and founding member of Montreal based art noise band AIDS WOLF. Upon leaving the noise scene in 2008, Taylor embarked on a decade long musical journey that brought him to New York , Amsterdam and LA where he founded AAN ZEE: an eclectic studio of cosmic grooves and transcendant frequencies layered with traditional musicianship to create a soundtrack for those who" dwell on the threshold" AAN ZEE is currently based in Amsterdam.

For this third release on Dais, Drew McDowall reaches into concept, ritual, and immersion, in an exercise of unravelling the DNA of hallucination. The Third Helix is McDowall's product of deconstructive exploration, twisting the fibers of being into new structure, shape, pattern, and pulse, without reconstituting its inscribed template.

The result is a true third act,in McDowall's career, that has seen him peregrinate from the late-70s art-punk of the trio Poems to his work with Psychic TV and Coil throughout the 80s and 90s, into his current home of New York City, where he has composed with CSD, Compound Eye, as well his solo work. That triangulation is central to The Third Helix, as it begins with his dive into the existence of a sensory toolkit unique to McDowall before twisting faculties and reconfiguring consciousness by honoring inherent power, cognizant of memory yet agnostic of context.

With the tenet that journey is rarely linear, but rather an omnipresent oscillation of matter, sound is stripped to salient and primal, propelled by McDowall's boring into the core of memory and impulse, suturing together the silent awareness of excogitating experience.

Featuring eight new tracks of McDowall's dark, experimental electronics, including the opener "Rhizome", The Third Helix is a churning descent into emotion, provoking thought and reflection while carving out haunting space only to fill it with baffling and wondrous structures of layered sound. McDowall solidifies himself as an architect who transforms otherworldly materials into something fascinating and challenging in the process.

Unnerving, trancelike anthems for nervous meditation and anxious relaxation, fans of Coil will immediately connect and immerse, while the complex compositions welcome listen for drone and ambient enthusiasts.

9 months of gestation that ignites in 7 titles of contemplative pop, hovering funk, cosmic soul built all this: the jazz fusion of Soft Machine, the krautrock of the wizards of Can, the irresistible languor of Italian crooners (Toto Cutugno and Lucio Battisti in the lead) as the soundtracks, so sensual, composed by Pino Donnagio for Brian de Palma... But if Antoine Kogut makes this references his own, it is because he considers each of the titles of "Sphere of Existence" as «songs, not tracks». With his deep voice he has the ambition to tell us a story through them: his own, and that of the world in which we live with as a guiding idea that all Phillip K. Dick's predictions have come true today. Which ones You'll have to look in the multiple circles assembled by Antoine Kogut to compose "Sphere of Existence".

A clue: all he used were 7 synth sounds. The quest has just begun.

TYR number 5 is here from emerging artist GMG. This Berlin based producer is a classically trained jazz musician and you can hear it shining through each carefully crafted composition. On the B side we start out with a top-tier remix from D_Roots, who delivers one of the most solid grooves of the year. These tracks are like nothing we'd ever heard before; they are truly original. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

The Maghreban returns to R&S for a new single following his dark debut album 01DEAS, perhaps with an icier sound.
Monster VIP is a reworking of a double time rap track from The Maghreban's Strange U side project; he added breaks and rolled it out. End level bosses lurk. Beware of the monster. Rave navel-gazing back to his roots: his first ever release was a jungle 12' in 1994. Early support from Ben UFO.On the flip, Batu (Timedance/XL) offers up crisp percussion and ominous sound design in his energetic 140 remix of album opener 'Eddies'.
Then the EP is closes out with 'Carpet Bombing', the title of which references the producer adding more and more notes to the main percussive motif as it builds and builds.

Russian producer Nocow returns to Rekids with an enthralling full-length album entitled 'Atoner' this November.

Real name Aleksei Nikitin, Nocow is known for his versatility, producing a large body of genre spanning work on labels like Clone Royal Oak, Figure, Fauxpas Musik, Gost Zvuk and Styrax. The St. Petersburg-based producer debuted on Rekids last year with his 'Samaya Dolgaya Noch' EP, a mellow release complete with vocal driven cuts as well as 2-step rhythms, and now returns with a myriad of productions in a fourteen track album entitled 'Atoner'.

'Atoner' opens with an eponymous track that gently unravels with soaring synths and subtle percussion before Nocow's voice emerges alongside twinkling atmospherics in 'Complie'. Throughout the long player are also intricately produced short tracks sitting between the two and three-minute mark such as looping vocal number 'Dancerecter', the melodic and rattling 'Leto' and ominous 'Delore'.

Ostanovitsa' is a murky offering featuring a meandering organ riff, leading into the pitter-patter drums and serene chords of 'Starveme (feat. Tayut Ogni)'. 'Come Along' is a crystalline and otherworldly experience from start to finish, whilst 'Melting Lights' is comprised of echoing, subterranean sounds, making way for reverberating snares and metallic stabs in 'Standalone'.

Husky murmurs and soothing notes then make up 'Neva', moving into the syncopated beat and idyllic chord sequences in 'Can't Get Enough' ahead of 'Stonecold' and its icy aesthetic. Finally, the album reaches a mesmerising conclusion with the spellbinding 'Footer'.

Danish producer and Regelbau family member Forte follows up his outstanding debut album Techne with a four track EP on ØEN REC. Transcending the traditional divide between dance and contemplation Away is a trip through tropical jungles and starry nights traversing effortlessly through meditative soundscapes, lush ambient house and rhythmic explorations.

On Away Forte cultivates soundscapes placed firmly between the body and the abstract, each track a testament to Forte's deep interest in sound design and sound textures, balancing drum machines and synths with percussion and swirling organic sounds.

Autarkic describe himself as first and foremost a songwriter but he has also made a name for himself as an international DJ. Over the past three years the musician based In Tel Aviv has, with great success, played clubs throughout all of Europe. One extra memorable gig was on last year's edition of Convenanza in the amphitheatre in Sete, France. Rumour has it that the sea living mammals of the area flocked in large groups in the waters below during Autarkic's gig.

This 12'' record is his first release on Hoga Nord Rekords and the slightly psychedelic, sample- and synthesiser based club music that has become Autarkic's trademark sound is captured by an impeccable production. The music is playful, yet stripped down to the essentials and not overloaded. The vocal elements works more as percussive elements than the carrier of the storytelling in the music.

Here he reinvents fragments of his record collection into entirely new pieces. Caught somewhere between soulful housefunk and japanese sci-fi soundtrack.The flipside brings together two of the dustiest fingers from the south and east:LeRoy from Munich, known for his loose style between Kraut, sampling and psychedelics becomes "Like One". Elevating vocal snippets, warm-as-a-dog's-nose bassline and delayed fuzz guitars bring an early summer to your technics.Filburt from Leipzig, Don of O*rs and well-versed producer in his own right hypnotizes and slowly layers "Take it back" into infinity. Happy to see him again on Mireia Records after five years!

After more than seven years of mostly sticking to the script are predominantly releasing house music, we're trying something different out and giving you an ambient album.
Zenzizenz's debut LP, Where We Will Be, is icy and intense yet full of heart, a. delicately, carefully crafted journey that slowly soothes you into its bottomless depths. The first two songs have a shadow of a pulse, but by the third, the beat has vanished and we're left with only waves and crashes and heaves of nebulous sound that breathes with a controlled calmness.

Our final Excursion of 2018 is one for the 'heads'. NameBrandSound provide us with two very different versions of one dancefloor destroying bruk riddim - 'A Heads Excursion'.

NameBrandSound is IG Culture and Alex Phountzi. They've been releasing music as a duo since 2014, from their debut EP on Technicolor/NinjaTune, to releases on their own Arena Yard imprint, and remixes for the likes of Blue Lab Beats, Neue Grafik and Miraa May.

The duo entered the foray as integral players in the West London broken beat scene; their individual careers dating back to the nineties and working extensively on projects such as New Sector Movements (IG Culture) and Bugz In The Attic (Alex Phountzi), amongst numerous others. Heavily associated with the infamous CoOp club nights at London's Plastic People, this year saw the launch of their own 'CoOp Presents' record label, which aims to showcase new talent in the broken beat scene and beyond, drawing in musical influences far and wide, from jungle to jazz, dancehall to soul.

'Shrunken Heads' flips an eighties classic, containing one of the biggest basslines ever laid to wax that'll be instantly recognisable to everyone and their mum. This is a sure-shot floorfiller - you know, the kind that appears twice in a lifetime... On the flip, 'BeBop' takes the same riddim and transposes the vibe to a slinkier affair, complete with jazzy stabs and soulful vocal punches - a solid five minute roller. Two grooves that are guaranteed to never leave your record bag.

The band members themselves rate the joys of discovery and not looking back, two of the leading factors in creating their sound - no hesitation, no regression - and this comes clear on their second full length album The Overview Effect, released on Hoga Nord Rekords. Captured on this album is the feeling of true presence created when musicians play together and not for themselves to prove their skills for each other and the listener. No show off - just boogie! Thanks to this holistic take on creating music, the sound is kept airy and the few overdubs made are carefully executed.

The band focuses more than before on rhythm. On The Overview Effect, Tross have fallen deeper into Disco and Jungle Funk, approaching the nerve of their live appearances clearer than on their previous records, creating dance music for spaced out kids.

It's winter in Detroit and Fit Siegel has given us "Carmine", a moody techno classic perfect for the lonely season. Subtle, low-key and thumping, the title track revolves around a bittersweet piano lead, elegiac 303 and Blade Runner string swells. It's a high-tech driving song in the tradition of Model 500's low-key classic "Pick Up The Flow" and FIT sounds more assured than ever. "First Found" is Mills-ian jigsaw puzzle techno imbued with breathy and addictive humanity. Stacatto, free-jazz informed piano solos lock into ping-pong synths -- eventually, a female vocal emerges over a bed of arpeggiated bass. Loose yet robotic, "First Found" is first-rate Detroit techno mysticism. The record as a whole is a worthy entry into the Motor City's storied canon from a leader of the new school.

The hyper-chromatic music of Matt Cutler marks him out as a true
impressionist; as Lone, he drizzles brightly coloured melody through his tracks with all the reflexive skill of a master painter daubing inks and pigment across paper. On Cutler's fifth Lone album, Reality Testing, released on R&S, he sends notes and chords rippling delicately into space before allowing them to disperse, each oozing beautifully away into the background fabric of the music. Combined with rhythms that ebb and flow, shifting from propulsive club constructions to beatific coastal hip-hop, it's a sensuous, immersive, heady experience, and easily his most accomplished and selfcontained work to date.

Wow, how time flies. I can't believe I am putting out record number +ive already. This release comes from star of the future Adam Pits. I have known Adam for a long time as he was a few years below me at school and then proceeded to go to uni in Leeds like I did. He is from the same crew as Breaka, and there must be something in the water up there because these guys and the rest of their mates are producing the best shit in town right now. It is a privilege to put out Adam's +irst piece of wax because these two tunes are dynamite from start to finish.

Multitalented musicians Johannes Brecht and Christian Prommer have collaborated on a release with a difference for respected Hamburg label Diynamic. 'Voix Grave' consists of an atmospheric classical composition from the pair, with an electronic version from each producer. The original composition features echoing drums, plucked violins and an emotive cello. Whilst it may surprise those who associate Diynamic with its more dancefloor-ready releases, the classical inclusion is a testimony to the label's forward-thinking approach.Berlin-based Christian Prommer has a long history of fusing his jazz and classical roots with his love of techno and electronica, with a career spanning over two decades and taking in boundary-pushing projects like Drumlesson. As a producer, he's previously released on the likes of !K7, Life and Death, Sonar Kollektiv and Buzzing Fly. Here, he makes his Diynamic debut with a version that perfectly fits within the label's sound; a fast-paced beat underpins the plucked strings of the original, utilised like synths. Featuring the original's mournful violin in the breakdown, the track builds to a dramatic peak. Meanwhile, Diynamic member Johannes Brecht, and his version has already proved to be a standout moment in label boss Solomun's recent sets. Running at a full 10 minutes in length, Brecht utilises this time to build up to waves of climactic moments whilst peeling back layers to reveal the original composition's melodies.
Voix Grave' as a package is an innovative project, with both versions accentuating the qualities of the original whilst providing genuinely club-appropriate takes on the record. It's further evidence of Diynamic's commitment to their creative vision, even as the label continues to expand to global proportions.

Skatebård's 2007 12" from 1st album "Midnight Magic" comes with italo banging title track (instr. + vocal mix feat. Annie & Sue). B goes deeper with technoid italo riding through an emotional curve with Skatebård's excellent drum-programming, and last track being one of the slow burning heavy bassline hits from same album.

To celebrate their second anniversary, Cracki Records released the compilation 'Mémoires d'Eléphant # 01' including unreleased or hidden tracks of Cracki artists with exclusive tracks from Renart, Larcier and l'Impératrice.

Antoine Harispurus was raised by a robot called V.I.C.T.O.R. The robot took care of little Antoine and early on he gave him music lessons and also the right equipment, for example a Roland 808. Robotic, mechanical precision became significant for Antoines music and soon he left the safety of his mothers toy store for the huge European club scene under his new pseudonym 'Golden Bug'.

This year he releases two songs as a 7 inch vinyl and in digital format on Hoga Nord Rekords. The A-side, 'Viaje A Tenderloin' sounds like the inside of an East German military liaison in 1975 where the tabulating machines haven't had service since the raise of the Berlin wall. On the B-side 'Hitodoma', guest vocalist Jessica Ho is plays with her voice in a bubbly way above Golden Bugs characteristic metallic, world music influenced sounds and beats. The music would fit perfectly in a vast alien mountain landscape.

Having set the tone and incredible pace over the past 12 months with two critically acclaimed EPs 'Dreary Town' and 'Aching Bones', Love Your Dum and Mad not only continues to mark Nadine as an emerging talent but offers a complete, beautifully formed artistic statement. Of Norwegian and Pakistani ancestry and hailing from the north east town of Whitburn, this young London based artist's compositions lean towards the dramatic, with all 11 tracks finding themselves imbued with an understated unease, a deep personal connection to their author and a real triumphant streak beneath the darker hued material.
Musically, she is reminiscent of early Bad Seeds material and the bruised honesty of a sheen-less Broken English by Marianne Faithful. Vocally, Nadine counts her inspirations as Nina Simone and Maria Callas by way of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, while lyrically her classic tales of love and loss find their roots in personal experiences, filtered through abstracts of William Hogarth, and Frida Kahlo. Nadine has taken these influences and has created a work which blends her rich and husky classic jazz streak with fantastical, organic instrumentation and the twisted industrial sounds of modern life.

It has been a good year for Idle Hands. The label reached its 50th release with a release from Livity Sound's Pev and November saw the release of Parris' latest 12' featuring a KMOS remix.
For the labels final vinyl release of 2018 it is the turn of Stockholm's Pistol Pete. Idle Hands boss Chris Farrell has long been a fan of this artists work. He may not have put much out over the years but each release has found a welcome home at the Bristol record shop from which the label operates.
On this release we find three club focused House tracks, each exuding a warmth one would hope for in these cold winter monts. 'Orphan' opens the set with crunchy, swinging drums and the deft use of a sample. 'Lundagatan' continues things apace with some concentrated drum programming and a chopped up soul sample. Freamon is a denizen of the modern world, allegedly hailing from NY, according to some, not relevant, says he. What matters is the music - finely honed and carefully crafted dancefloor gems, served up with love the way they used to be, the way they ought to be.

The Hot Damn! EP is his second release on the mysterious Turbocapitalism label, after 2016's Black Grid EP. This time, he has decided to shine a spine-tingling light on our souls. He wants you to raise your hands and put them together in an overdose of holy joy on this unashamedly celebratory slab of sweet gospel grooving. Can you feel the spirit One listen to 'No More Crying' will settle any doubts on the subject. It's gospel-funk. Or gospel-not-gospel, which is like a million samples taken from every soul record you never heard, seamlessly stitched together as if created fresh today, with one idea - to meld together into one big explosion of spine-tingling dance floor joy!

The title track takes things down a notch with a heavy kick drum shuffle - stripped back analogue house, making for an intoxicating, dense brew of sounds, feelings and ideas. Fierce, pulsating free jazz sounds, snaking around that deliciously tense, bustling bottom end, creating an infectious groove that is fresh, different and most of all, impossible to resist.

Meanwhile, Madrid's DJF and Damian Schwartz do what they do best: they take that thing straight to the centre of Detroit, let it adjust to the new environment and then freely cruise the boulevards at night.
