Gaspard De La Montagne - Spectres

The second release on Sbire furthers the on-going collaboration between label co-founder Gaspard de La Montagne and Nathan Baumann. 'Spectres' is a bold, seductive and wonderfully-unhurried record which shows the breadth of the Sbire sound world.

The title track is orchestral and profoundly alluring, with an earworm bassline creeping out from behind the kick drum's refined thud. You're pulled further in by the lengthy intro of 'Aube', where floating pads, draw from the instrumental flair of classical music. Mid-way through they give way to a stripped-back bassline, exemplifying the nature of this collaboration.

B-side opener 'Masque' has harmonic beams of light swirling over its foundations. The melodies transfix and the drums keep time. 'Perspectives (1 & 2)' occupies a thin veil of haze, tempering the beat and bringing out the groove in the baggy percussion. In fitting style, it ends a record whose grace comes in the striking interactions between elements far-removed.

VARIOUS ARTISTS (INC. ANGORPHORA, RINGS AROUND SATURN + MORE) - FIRST LIGHT: VOLUME 1 (COMPILED BY CC:DISCO!)

The inimitable CC:DISCO! has partnered with hyped underground label Soothsayer to curate the first in a collaborative series of compilations entitled First Light. Soothsayer presents First Light: Volume 1 compiled by CC:DISCO! is due for release in February 2018 digitally and on vinyl.

Australia's reigning champion of tasteful electronic music, CC:DISCO! has procured exclusive tracks from emerging and undiscovered artists across genres such as boogie, balearic, funk, disco and house - with each sound piquing her interest, culminating in a finished product that would undeniably slot into a CC:DISCO! set. Her mission statement "Less chin stroking, more dancing." It captures what CC:DISCO! is all about: the dancefloor.

The very first taste of First Light comes in the form of a salty and sweet track called 'Really Want That' by Jace XL. Premiered via Resident Advisor, CC:DISCO! explains: "I remember the first time I heard Jace sing in a bar, at first I thought a DJ was playing then I looked up see Jace singing his guts out. He blew me away! Jace's voice is amazing and to me, a huge part of what's going on in Australian music, so it's with open arms we welcome him to First Light."

CC:DISCO! certainly knows how to work a d-floor. The fast-ascending Victorian DJ has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the last 12 months to be the name on everyone's lips. After cutting her teeth at Melbourne institutions like Daydreams and Boney, word began to spread of CC's paranormal dancefloor abilities and suddenly CC:DISCO! was officially 'a thing'. Within just a couple of years, she has crushed the closing set at Pitch Music and Arts Festival, and graced a multitude of festival stages such as Meredith (now scripted in local folklore), Croatia's Dimensions, and Sugar Mountain's hallowed Boiler Room. She slayed Resident Advisor's RA583 mix, and has nailed guest spots for radio giants NTS, Red Light Radio, triple j and Dublab as well as hosting her famed Friday evening show on PBS FM; Smoke and Mirrors. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say she is now one of the biggest Australian DJs on the planet.

CC:DISCO! has become a staple presence at Soothsayer parties since the birth of the label two years ago, and an easy family dynamic developed. That family has come together for Volume 1 of First Light: a collection of brand new tracks from Australia and New Zealand's thriving local scenes. Jace XL will be keeping good company on the compilation with the inclusion of tracks from Sui Zhen, Chord Memory Band, Nite Fleit, Rings Around Saturn, Manuel Darquart and Love Deluxe just to name a few, with the full track listing and release date being revealed in the new year. These songs - sourced by CC:DISCO! through chance meetings, fangirl moments and dogged emails - come together to create a body of music that is oddly satisfying and timeless. Summer is officially here friends, dive in!

Spooky Ep

12inchMEANT015
MEANT RECORDS
15.12.2017

French label Meant has had a great run of things in 2012 with standout release from Vosper, Rework and Remain vs Populette getting

love from DJs across the board and extensive press support. Now the imprint looks to an act that have already proved their worth

with previous releases, the excellent Monoblok & PSLKTR. Monoblok & PSLKTR have been working together since 2009 and have

been responsible for releases on Notorious Elektro and Lebensfreud Records as well as of course the Meant label. Their unique take

on the modern sound of electro has given them a loyal fan base and this latest release with its intense feel and stellar remix selection is

certain to attract plenty of attention.

The EP kicks off with title track 'Spooky', a rolling, dark edged affair that melds element of electro and techno into a cut that is intense

from beginning to end. Vocoded vocals, off kilter synth parts and nagging top lines tie the record together and make for a

rollercoaster of a listen!
The original is accompanied by a remix from French production heavyweight Michel Amato AKA The Hacker who turns into a full
bore, old school electro workout that is simply stunning. The flipside of the vinyl gets going with 'Sigminder' feat MTH, a brooding
and squelchy electronic workout that walks a balanced line between dark and light with its swirling FX and close to Distortion
synth riffs, quality stuff. The remix duties on 'Sigminder' are handed to La Dame Noir who deliver a hypnotic reworking that retains
much of the original character whilst very much stamping it's own sound on things. There are 2 digital exclusives, the Vosper
remix of 'Sigminder' which delivers some quality techno and the 'Assault on Meant 15 edit' of Spooky that offers up some slo-mo
soundtrack action.
More quality from the Meant label, nothing less than you would expect, enjoy!

Dj Khalab - Zaire

Zaire

26.02.2018

Khalab has arrived OntheCorner with 'Zaire'.
'Zaire' is the beginning of a new narrative for the artist. In this first chapter Khalab creates urgent compositions with layers of sound from the past, present and future. 'Zaire' is underpinned by an intensely pounding heart of other-worldly percussion. The collaged loops frenetically jab in syncopation breaking off when the inherent swing casts its discrete groove to summon the dance. Unrelenting waves of synthlines, basslines and rhythm find harmony amongst the melodic chants and distortion.
Already making Gilles Peterson's 'All Winners' list on BBC 6 Music'Zaire' is a breathtaking nucleus for airwaves, dancefloors and, any digital devices masquerading as abeatbox. The tracks 'Aeh' and 'Night in the Jungle' are the vessel from which the heat of 'Zaire' steams. DJ Khalab has departed and with 'Zaire' Khalab has arrived On the Corner.
The two remixes on this EP offer magnified oppositions to the friction that Khalab seamlessly stiches into his tapestries of sound. The bass frequencies that Medlarbounces across his electro dirge, taking day into night, contrasts with the harmony and light of Will LV's journeying remix that drives through the troposphere.
'Zaire' is a prelude of the forthcoming 'Black Noise 2084' and the freeing of a narrative shackled in chains for centuries. Phrases of historic recordings collaged with future electronics and the analogue depth and artistic voices of the present makes this a ground breaking work of future music. The archive recordings bare a stark reminder of the need to face the barbaric recesses of modern human history. The many voices of Khalab's 'Black Noise 2084' are coming to be heard.

12inchEES002
(Emotional) Especial
22.11.2013

REPRESS ALERT: Especial is delighted to welcome Baris to the roster. Known for his edit series of obscure Turkish Psychedelic, Rock and Disco, here he takes the producer's chair to present "200". Working with musicians and singers to create a completely original production. The song's message for equality (of the sexes) highlights the bigotry and backward political and religious boundaries his country faces and acts as a siren to the current troubles. Handed to Emotional Recordings over 5 years ago but with no label to release it at that time, now we are delighted to be able to release 200's message. The original is backed with remixed from new production duo Khidja, as well as East London's finest, The Asphodells. Teaming up with guitarist Balabas, Romania's Khidja turn in a deep and introspective interpretation mixing their own heavy eastern influences, while the B-side sees Weatherall and Fairplay don their Asphodells mantle for two renditions that firmly lay it before the ALFOS alter. With artwork (by Jamie Paton) highlighting the struggle for fairness and freedom in his homeland, we hope the release can be seen as a support for their tribulations and highlight the talent that lays East.

Kiwi - Amityville Ep (inc. Dj Tennis Remix)

Kiwi AKA Alex Warren, returns to Futureboogie after 2016's well received 'Orca' EP (which picked up support from the likes of DJ Harvey, PBR Streetgang, Manpower, Kate Simko & many more) with the cinematically sprawling 'Amityville' EP.

With all the intensity and menace of the supernatural events immortalised in Rosenberg's 1979 horror flick, 'Amityville' leans on Lalo Schifrin's classic score and serves up a chugging disco-fied monster. Arpeggiated synths and those memorable vocal refrains from the movie build a mood of anticipation that flourishes into sections of pure wigged out disco business. It's a very clever and unique production, and one that we served up to DJ Tennis for re-interpretation.

Following on from recent remixes for The Juan Maclean and Tricky, as well as a spectacular DJ Kicks mix for !K7, DJ Tennis remoulds 'Amityville' into a deep and delicate house groove, introducing some guitar riffing and deft mallet instrumentation whilst manipulating the original components to mesmerizing effect.

On 'Warriors', Kiwi continues his unabashed love of cult movies with a musical ode that captures the edgy and urban sounds of 70s cinematic synth soundtracks; phasing guitar riffs, rolling snares and dramatic synth sweeps dominate this infectious track. And closing the release, 'Paco' is a melody fuelled and studious production; wandering keys drift over a steady beat and filtering bassline combo whilst the synths pitch bend and flex, resulting in a gloriously trippy ambience throughout.

Lomboy - Warped Caress

Lomboy

Warped Caress

12inchCRACKI041
Cracki Records
06.03.2018

For her first single, the sublime title 'Loverboy' comes out as a big urban spleen, released in a space made of asphalt and artificial paradises. Groups like Hooverphonic or even Portishead play around this throbbing softness that is Loverboy, splashing about in the electronic lounge of the 90s.

The opener, 'Alien Lady' features a flute-driven solo backed up by a funky guitar riff that then transitions into a tropical beat and Tanja narrating the story of feeling a stranger in a big city, not understanding the social codes and clues 'I don't speak the language in the way that you know' while Worth to you is a dreamy, glitched-out hypnotic track which maintains an edge of mysterious sexuality and her signature sense of intimate detachment.

If the atmosphere coming out of Lomboy's work can be sometimes felt as prude and even shy, it certainly does not intend to hide with embarrassment the aphrodisiac scent that permeates it. On the contrary, this modesty perceived in the interpretation and in the production sensually envelops the different compositions, and imparts to this guilty pleasure the feeling of a stolen kiss. Warped Caress brings us to vertiginous heights and takes us into abyssal depths throughout the five tracks. This suggests at times a diegetic representation of this erotic world seen through the insolent prose and at other times a mimetic representation where each instrument plays an important part in every story told.

27.03.2018

"Real name Takeshi Fukushima, Takecha has been a key figure within Japan's electronic music scene for decades and belongs to the same pioneering crew as Soichi Terada and Shinichiro Yokota. Now in his mid- fifties, 'Deep Soundscapes' is an album encompassing Fukushima's sound with every track written by the producer between 1990 and 2013. Intricate percussion and crystalline chords set the tone in 'Deep Drive' before a funky bassline joins serene synths in 'Midnight Things'. Appearing in Soichi Terada's mix for Resident Advisor (under its promo title 'Deep Loop C'), 'Gradual Atmosphere' is comprised of a galloping beat and saccharine chimes, 'Factory 141' sees Takecha demonstrate a murkier aesthetic, whilst 'Rhodes Detox' is a definitive example of Takecha's flair for expertly balancing elements within his productions. An homage to Shufflepuck Cafe´, an old Mac Plus video game Takecha would play on a black and white 9- inch monitor back in the day, 'Shufflepuck' blends ghostly melodies with clicks, whirrs and pops. 'Calm Imagination' is a poignant affair from start to finish with its hypnotising atmosphere, contrasting to the more up-tempo 'Warm Rondo' with its soulful keys and purring low-end. Tying it all together, 'Genuine Innocence' is a cut that Takecha made two versions of; one with a solo from a pianist and another with more emphasis on the beat, the latter of which appears on this album."

When we're young, the lines we draw are rough. They represent big emotions we can't quite explain. Later in life, we mourn feelings lost to time. But you can fill in the parts you can't remember - patching together sentiments floating in the ether, reminiscing on things you haven't lived. In the process, new flowers bloom. Wildflower is all original work, written and performed by Pax from his base in the Bay Area. With big dusty walls of sound and a free-spirited melodic bend, it tells a story of growing pains in dreamy strokes, aimed straight for your gut with a crisp, autumnal charm that practically begged to be pressed to wax.
Wildflower encompass the dexterous range of Pax, the clear-eyed precociousness and smiling audacity with which he swallows everything saccharine, chews up the parts and spits out something exquisite and joyful - at times spectral, and bitterly sad, too.

Lovebirds Ft. Galliano - Icarus Remixes (2x7")

For Record Store Day 2017 Razor-N-Tape presents "Icarus," an original song by Lovebirds, with remixes from Tall Black Guy, Moods, and JKriv in a striking double 7" package.
Giving the shine to their 45 series for this year's Record Store Day, RNT welcomes back Lovebirds aka Sebastian Doering with a slice of chilled-out analog soul. Although primarily known for his nu-disco and house productions, Lovebirds is a seasoned hand at all things deep, and Icarus shows the smoky late-nite side of Basti's skilled production style. An all-original tune, Icarus layers jazzy vintage electric pianos over restrained but head-nodding percussion, with Galliano's soulful vocal soaring above it all. The ever consistent Tall Black Guy delivers a 90's-esque boom-bapper of a mix, with an added verse from 80's Babies for good measure. Moods works the track into a slo-mo stomper on his mix, complete with stuttering synth bass and driving percussion. And rounding out the package is RNT's JKriv, with a beachy stripped-down retro-boogie remix perfect for those warm-weather months to come. Each mix gets its own side in this double 7" pack, with stunning full color artwork, making it a truly special package perfect for both collectors and DJs alike.

Reach
29.03.2017

New UK based imprint aiming to bring you atmospheric and emotional treats that toe the line between bass heavy, electro leaning, house & techno and everything in between. The label's first outing comes from the duo Thread.

Tabor kicks of the release and it's a motorik workout that combines elements of minimal techno and acid, with a squelchy bassline and moody synth melodies all carried along by tight percussions.

Dalling is a straight up electro jam, a galloping start/stop percussive pattern, ever-present pads with more layers of squelch added for maximum effect.

On the flip Brackenbury picks up a couple of notches on the BPM counter - driving proceedings to 130+, a proper heads down techy number with elements of micro house, filled with quirky sounds and lush pads layered on top of syncopated percussive patterns.

The final cut on the EP Conningham does away with all pretences and hits you in the face with another dose of unrelenting space music. Heavy bass line, crunchy electro percussions and sci-fi atmospheric pads rounding off the first release in style.

Timothy 'heretic' Clerkin - Serenade Ep

Timothy 'Heretic' Clerkin has a new record out. This new record is called Serenade. It is out on Ransom Note Records. It is three tracks from Timothy and one remix from Marlon Hoffstadt. All four tracks are winners. They sound like the '90s remade by people too young to remember the shit bits. There are breakbeats. There are acid lines. There are weird samples about drugs. There are things that sound like Orbital. There is no time wasted.

Timothy has released other music on other labels. Some of them are Relish, Days of Being Wild, NEIN and My Favourite Robot. He is a fine DJ. He has only ever been seen to eat soup. He wears tweed. He was once the fastest barman in West Yorkshire. His record is coming out in a limited edition of 300 12' copies. It will also be on digital. It is the 7threlease from Ransom Note Records. Thank you for reading. This has been the press release.

'If You Want To' embodies their sound and the fervent Cape Town beats scene aptly - esoteric UK influences sit amongst ambient soundscapes and a cracked breakbeat, pinned on a looped bassline - growing in intensity but using the most subtle of touches.Gacha Bakradze's version posits the track somewhere between slow-burning disco and krautrock, framing the character of the original with loose jams on his array of studio gear. Finally, Edmondson's version is a minimal, 2-steppy take honed by the Berlin sounds which have pricked his ears for the last couple of years.

Sign Libra - Closer To The Equator

The people at Antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and Sign Libra, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule.
.
Released under the moniker Sign Libra, Closer to the Equator is the work of Latvian artist and composer Agata Melnikova. Composed for a contemporary ballet at Latvian National Opera in Riga, the music on this record strongly relies on Melnikova's appreciation of BBC-produced nature documentaries. Projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the British TV-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world, Sign Libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. Each song works like a musical tableau' in which the main protagonists - plants and animals - come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the Latvian artist.

Sign Libra's mental and musical incarnations of the microcosm of the rainforest have something to do with Software's album populated by exotic insects and crawling plants, a Carnaval des Animaux' released on Sky by a MIDI-addicted Hector Berlioz. These microscopic beings incarnate themselves in resonated melodies that echo through a technicolour rainforest, while winds blow through holographic ferns, vines and palms.

Closer To The Equator synthesizes visions panning treetops as the sun's rays pierce through clouds nearby. Sign Libra takes you into a harmonic world that shines brightly wherever you stand, and offers a genuine synesthetic experience.

Dead Start Program

2x12inchKOM374
Kompakt
09.02.2018

Following up to three albums on Kompakt since 2011, the latest being 'Signs Under Test' (KOM321/KOMCD119) in 2015, Los Angeles based house and techno producer John Tejada returns to the Cologne-based imprint with his thirteenth full-length, 'Dead Start Program' - an eleven-track journey spanning a prismatic array of styles and patterns, from John's signature soulful techno tunes to the further mazy, hypnotic motifs of his trancey electro hybrids.
Be it solo or through a host of multifaceted collaborations, Tejada keeps himself busy on all fronts in and off the club environment, be it by contributing the 44th number in Fabric's seminal mix series, playing drums for Detroit legend Daniel Bell (as DBX), testing the limits of acid with Tin Man or joining forces with the hilarious self-proclaimed "disinformationist" Reggie Watts as Wajatta.
Since his beginnings and the drop of his debut 12", 'Waxing', released through his own label Palette Recordings over twenty years ago, John has been carving out a lane of his own - combining and assembling elements from all ends of his wide-spanning spectrum of reference in a way that allows a more direct transition from the realm of the mind to the circuits of the machine, as confirmed by the deliberately limited studio setup used in the making of the present album.
Navigating across the lines, from the arrhythmic machine spook of the album's opener 'Autoseek' via the straight out thumping and jacking pulse of 'Hypochondriac' and heavy-lidded breakbeat of 'Sleep Spindle' onto the kosmische-infused vibrations of 'Telemetry', vibrant slo-mo inertia of 'Loss' and wistful club-ready winds of 'Duty Cycle' and 'Heal', John threads his way through genres and tempos with optimal chameleonic effect.
Cloaked in a beautiful sleeve art courtesy of John's long time friend Juan Mendez aka Silent Servant - another key contributor to the Los Angeles scene worldwide,

based upon a picture by Mark Richards, 'Dead Start Program' draws its title from the analog start up program used to boot an old CDC 6600 computer from a dead start and which metaphorically invites in John's own words to figure a "reboot from the challenges life throws at you".

..the L.A.-based veteran electronic musician's stuff is lighter than air, in a floating-free, mentally liberating kind of way -- it breathes.
- LA WEEKLY
...maintains his penchant for melancholic, Detroit-inspired tech-house better suited to the home than club environment.
- UNCUT
...satisfies the soul without losing its precision-tooled digital lustre
- MOJO

A beautiful collection of tunes as striking as they are subtle.

Javi Bora & Le Vinyl's - Omatsuri Ep

Manchester's Hudd Traxx imprint kicks off 2013 with a bang bringing you the 'Omatsuri' EP this January, a collaborative effort from Spaniards Javi Bora and Le Vinyl.
Javi Bora and Le Vinyl have released music for reputable labels such as 2020 Vision, Off, Robsoul, Catwash and Loco Records. Both producers maintain a heavy DJ schedule on their home turf of Spain and further afield, building their reputations as two of Spain's most prominent deep house artists. This record marks a milestone for Hudd Traxx as they reach their 40th release, its no surprise looking back that the label has such a highly praised reputation within the underground, having put out cuts from DJ Sneak, Agnès, Sascha Dive, Rick Wade & Rolando to name a few.

'Omatsuri' opens here, a deep, trippy number led by a whirling synth line that gives the track a hypnotic, psychedelic feel. Shuffling drums, a low-end lumpy bass, sporadic synth sweeps and spoken word vocals carry the weight of the track, with subtle variations and refined modulation touches on each element creating an ever-evolving dynamic for its near ten minute duration.
Next up is 'Boreal', a raw, dubbed-out cut that embraces a less-is-more approach. Hooky synth stabs lead the way with cavernous reverb builds and warbling delays creating an intense depth and atmosphere. Punchy low-slung drums flutter away in the background easing the movement along while the synthesized elements and soulful vocal lines take control, creating an emotive house track infused with warmth. The duo offer up a 'Dub' version of 'Boreal' to close the release, doing exactly what it says on the tin, the pair strip back the vocal lines and allow the cut to slowly bloom and evolve throughout its duration, resulting in a loopy more underground disposed cut.

Colm K. - Beginnings / Six Four Hundred

Cork native Colm K has been making waves on both the Irish and international scene since his selection for the Red Bull Music Academy in 2003. With releases onBastard Jazz,r2, and his recent release onAll City Records, Colm K has earned his place on both critics' and fans' radars. He has refined and defined his style throughout the years both as a producer and DJ, as well as holding down his residency at Cork's renownedSunday Timesparty.

Colm K steps up for the third release on Tiff's Joints with two contrasting off-kilter jams. "Beginnings" sees Colm strip things right back - led by a bubbling organic percussion line, soothing chords and a near g-funk lead melody. "Six Four Hundred" steps things up a notch. Kicking off with jagged, broken drums and morphing into a skippy, bottom heavy bubbler with a tilt of the hat to West London's Co-Op movement. The B-side sees the inimitable K15 (Eglo Records/Wild Oats) put his own spin on "Beginnings", trading the spaced grooves for a driving beat and luscious keys licks. Early support comes from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Josey Rebelle, Alexander Nut, Jimpster, Kev Beadle and more.

Happy Skull
19.02.2018

To kick-start 2018, Happy Skull serve up a rare EP from Italy's D'Arcangelo brothers. The sibling duo have been active since the early 1990s, when they played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of Roman Techno alongside contemporaries Lory D, Leo Anibaldi and their Automatic Sound Unlimited production partner, Max Durante. In the two decades that have passed since, Fabrizio and Marco have consistently delivered off-kilter, futurist electronic masterpieces for the likes of Nature, Analogical Force and, most famously, Rephlex.

The four tracks contained on this Happy Skull outing are not re-discovered archive cuts, but rather fresh slabs of mind-altering musical intoxication. The alternating bliss and acid-fired psychedelia of "Saba Tree"and the creeping late night paranoia of "Pull Seven" set the tone. The effervescent fun continues on the flip, where saucer-eyed chords and IDM electronics combine on the rush-inducing "13th Cider". To finish things off Fabrizio and Marco treat us to "Korty", a mesmerizing, deep space slow jam full of backwards electronics and rumbling flashes of sub-bass.

OFFEN MUSIC
08.02.2018

90s material from the man also responsible for the Rex Illusivii material we've been adoring here. Stunning again. Download Code Included. Artwork by Emilija Radojicic. TIP!
.
'Otherworldly, poetic, imaginative and full of exploratory spirit: the music of Mitar Subotic aka Rex Illusivii aka Suba is somewhere out there. Pure spheres of sound, ruled by absolute expression and a sounding language beyond our notion of a language.

Now Offen Music reveals another unknown chapter of his large archive. This time it's a Suba record, an alias Subotic started to use already in the late 1980s in Yugoslavia. It became prominent after his relocation in São Paulo in the late 1990s, where he became one of Brazil's most demanded producers of the time. Wayang' was conducted in 1995, just shortly after Suba produced an album together with his old Yugoslavian friend Milan Mladenovic under the project name Angel's Breath. Their record unites ambient, world grooves, polyrhythms, haunting synth lines, post-punk, funk, reggae, dub, Asian melodies and vocal experiments all turned into a demanding, yet slightly pop story arc for open minded searchers. Somehow the Angel's Breath is discreet mirrored in Wayang', that was recorded in Suba's Wah Wah Studio in São Paulo, Brazil. The album features eleven tunes of whom each single one dances in its very own pipe dream. You hear particles of classic, tripping trip hop, minimal music madness, drone psychology, African percussions, the sound of a jungle, all-consuming Wagnerism, tragically moving psychedelic, tribal neo wave, Balearic desire, ethnic pureness, industrial rudeness, traces of Alan Lomax and the Smithsonian Folkways world as well as syncopated polyrhythmic adventures, religious chants, sample experiments, mumbling synthesizers and even techno. It's all there and as if time hasn't moved on, its sounds fresher than fresh. Music that has been produced with no specific audience in mind, only guided by sound and the dimensions it is able to create. Consequentially it seeks for a listener that is willing to surrender, to feel the many particles of Suba's divine musical imagination beyond the common grounds. You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.' Oscar Wilde once said. Suba is singing these songs without using his own voice. He chants with sounds, found voices and unheard rhythms. If Wayang' would have been released during the times of its origin, Mo Wax music would have sounded frumpy and Warp would have loved to drop it for its fierce musical attitude.

If someone now says, it is easy to judge backwards, we recommend to listen and jump irrevocably forwards. It will be a sublime, sparkling, spiritual, impressive, thrilling journey that elevates its listeners to a place of inspiration and enlightenment.' Michael Leuffen, November 2017

Invisible, Inc.
03.05.2017

Known more for their dubby 'kosmische' and psychedelic post-disko, Glasgow label Invisible Inc seem to be wandering closer to the realms of the nightclub dancefloor these days. Not that anyone's complaining. With recent outings by Strange Culture and Sordid Sound System taking the lead, this one by Budapest's Bal5000 is quite possibly their most dancefloor friendly release yet.All four cuts inhabit a space somewhere at the very edge of 'house' but are steeped in soaringly cosmic italo-esque synth lines and bubbling, motorik arpeggios reminiscent of early '80s minimal.....the result is a real sonic treat: hypnotically transcendant, yet beautifully melodic, and all solidly underpinned by some seriously low-end sub-bass, tight rhythms and pistol-sharp snares.

Collocutor - Black Satin

This 12' begins with Collocutor ripping into Miles Davis' 'Black Satin', from the benchmark On The Corner LP, and owning it from the off. A respectful homage is paid to the original with sensational improvised parts being added with a hip groove from the percussive wonders of Magnus Mehta (Magnus P.I.), Maurizio Ravalico and bassist Suman Joshi. The sparks fly as guitarist Marco Piccioni channels the spirits of late '60s psychedelic fires. The melodic riff of Miles' classic is stripped down by Simon 'Shwaa' Finch and Mike Lesirge who subtly encapsulate the original's atmosphere.

The A-side is completed with the label's latest signing, DJ Khalab delivering a sharp, warped assault on Collocutor's 'The Search', just in time for the LP's repress.

On the flip is a live version of 'The Search' recorded during the 'Live at the Fish Factory' Session in 2016 which, have so far resulted in two collector's edition dubplates that are as rare as hen's teeth. The invigorated far out sound has been mixed on this recording by producer Sam Jones who has entrenched himself with the On the Corner approach and brought his 'Sam Jones Construct' vision to the label. Marco Piccioni sold his soul at a highway crossroads on the way to the recording. There are spirits riding on the backs of the ensemble guiding this version of 'The Search' out into cosmic oceans.

The 12' ends with bassist Ruth Goller (Melt Yourself Down, Let Spin, Gufo and Bug Prentice) stewarding her virtuosic groove sensibilities into the twilight zone with this brooding off -kilter abstraction of 'Everywhere'. The stripped backbones of the tracks rhythm are punctuated by a dialogue and mantra summoned by Goller that moves menacingly over a synth bass augmented b-line.

As label founder Pete OntheCorner describes the release: 'This EP ushers in a string of releases that embody the label's vision. The futuristic concept first realised by Miles Davis with On The Corner and more generally during his electric period is at the heart of our collaborative, genre-less burning chalice. Analogue genius being mutated with a charge into something other, a vanishing point of ethereal musical feeling where the space for fresh narratives can be formed beyond genre and out On the Corner.

Victoria's artwork is always stunning and for this series of works she has already conquered the sublime with the sleeve for Black Satin".

Scott Gilmore - Another Day

Having recently completed a live tour across Europe, Scott Gilmore returns to International Feel with Another Day. Following on from his "mini-masterpiece" last year, the LA musician confidently delivers four new records. The uplifting Electric Gestures is the first of the four dreamy soundscapes. Setting the tone, it drifts through with tight yet subtle percussion. A melancholic twist ensues with the melodic string number Things Forgotten. Next up, Lately follows suit blending emotive keys with thoughtful strings, which lead onto the hopeful and hypnotic chords of Another Day. "Before recording the songs for 'Another Day' I had never worked on music with the knowledge that it would be released. Both 'Volume 01' and 'Subtle Vertigo' were made in a state of aloneness, and there is a comfort in that state of mind because it is easier to work freely without any inhibitions.Making music that I knew would be heard by others was a process of putting that out of my mind, and a process of remembering that the most important part of creating music is to explore." - Scott Gilmore Sitting comfortably in Mark Barrott's International Feel, Gilmore studied the guitar for eighteen years and his compositions demonstrate a real master at work. Combining elements of 70's underground psychedelia, kosmische, and library music his music "has the distinct air of something you might find in a dusty corner of someone's garage" (Pitchfork).

Ten Walls - Queen (extended) 2x12"

This 8 tracks album on double vinyl is a vivid depiction of the
Lithuanian artist top-notch production skills, his wise use of subtle
melodies and harmonic progressions, as well as his pointed dancefloor
instinct.

The first cut, 'Balboa' is a funky French touched house tune, while 'Next
Station' is a deeper excursion into esoteric atmospheres, laid back
drums and world of sounds.

'Rhapsody' is a fast paced ballad, evocative and profound, that
display Ten Walls´s trademark ability to deal with hypnotising
arpeggiated bass-lines, as in the slower disco-infected following
track, 'Rocky'.

The compelling 'Age Well' stretches out Jonatan
Bäckelie´s precious voice on a body of marmoreal drums and an
enchanting bass line .

The even slower reduced drums of 'Transition' and its bubble-chamber
dub gradually prepare us to the dreamy ride of 'INK' featuring the
vocals of Daddy was A Milkman).

Finally, the exquisite 'ReExtended' mix of INK melds an
orchestral score, Pop and electronic music with dazzling sensitivity.
