The ascent of Shit and Shine sits as one of the great audio headfucks in recent years. From it's genesis out of the South London noise rock revivalist scene to a zone where rabbit costumed maniacs bled a unique form of multi-drum and electronic hysteria to the current incarnation of destroyed lysergic dance music. Shit and Shine is the epitome of second guess subversion. One with a foot in every pie it continues on a fantastic twisted path.

'Everybody's a fuckin expert' lays forth another slab of inverted tranquility where general disruption is kept in check by the subversive charm unique to the outfit. Gunfire rhythms lay waste to androgynous sonics on the opener 'Ass', deep sea disorientation allows pools of plasticine audio to rise on Rastplatz whilst Picnic Table rinses electro out of thick gelatinous cybernetics.

'Everybody's a fuckin expert' takes a smörgåsbord of sounds and styles and contorts them into a bright new hope in twisted theatre, disorientating dance and hefty hedonism. Both the faint and strong hearted allowed permanent entry to this club.

The pioneering electronic musician Matthew Herbert releases The Shakes', his first new dance record for nine years, on 1st June via Caroline International on CD, Vinyl, Download and to stream. Herbert & Caroline International are providing a unique route to the new music for his fans by making one track and short accompanying film available on streaming and video platforms each week leading up to album release. Directed by Matthew himself, working with fine artist and cinematographer Margaret Salmon, each shot is a made up of a single shot, filmed in one take and set up as a moving equivalent of a still life. Middle' will be the first track made available on Monday 16th March. By the 1st June, all album tracks will be available to stream and or watch with a bespoke selection of these also available as Instant Grat tracks on iTunes. The physical CD and Vinyl formats will include bonus remixes and a download card.

Emma Greengrass, UK Head of Caroline International comments Between now and the release date of The Shakes' we will be curating an ever growing playlist that combined with the timely reveal of visual elements creates a calling card for this career defining album. Of course running in tandem will be a more traditional radio, TV & PR strategy but Matthew's musical career is defined by experiment so we wanted to complement that with a more engaging launch strategy.'

The Shakes' is Matthew Herbert's first album under the name HERBERT since 2006's dark orchestral disco fantasy 'Scale' (K7!). The album deals with intensely personal issues such as raising young children against a backdrop of an increasingly unstable world and, amongst other things, utilizes the sound of used bullets and shells from eBay as part of its soundscape. Herbert himself suggests that the record can be seen as a treatise on how music helps to motivate, provide respite and divert us from the challenges of the everyday' and that it is electronic music for the soul.'

In many ways, The Shakes is a sequel to Herbert's much-lauded Bodily Functions album - a record that regularly features in Best Of The '90s' album lists - and is the latest in a series of albums that stretches back nearly twenty years to his minimalist house classic 100lbs. It follows a vinyl-heavy trio of underground releases last year (part 6,7,8) and is Herbert's attempt to seduce the listener back to the dance-floor'. Herbert comments: When I started writing music, I did it because I could, because there was a chance to, because I liked it. As I get older these reasons become less compelling. At a time when inequality is rising to unprecedented extremes and when the system we have created is designed to destroy rather than nurture, music's propensity to noodle inconclusively can seem unhelpful at best. Who needs diversion when action is required However, music can't only and always be a call to arms, it can also tenderize and engulf when comfort is needed. This album then is an attempt to find a middle ground between those two positions.'

Label boss, Cozzy D, steps up with his latest offering, unleashing a couple of analogue-based beasts, together with a sterling remix from Portuguese assassin Trikk.

Cozzy is a long-serving member of London's electronic music scene, starting out as a Garage DJ in the late nineties, before he became involved with the highly fertile east London underground. It was during this heady period that he met Lee Brinx and started Lower East. Cozzy's style is a fusion of rugged house music, spliced with deeper elements and soulful nuances - and a firm focus on the dancefloor.

This new single sets out his stall for 2014 perfectly, with lead track '4D' encapsulating that hard yet emotive sound he's been cultivating over the years. Expertly chopping in a vocal that will be familiar to many dance music fans, Cozzy layers intense strings over a stomping set of percussion and an equally tough analogue bassline. Way down in the bottom a layer of sub bass adds a final level of depth.

'D&H' takes us into the melancholy zone with its droning bassline and tension building high strings. It's a haunting affair all round, and once those synth stabs pop up in the second half of the track you'll be hard pushed not to feel a wave of emotion wash over you.

Last up Trikk steps in with a killer remix in his trademark retro-leaning style, channelling warehouse vibes circa 1992. He ups the ante slightly with shuffling percussion, thunderous sub bass and various throwback effects that give it a bit of an old-school drum 'n' bass feel.

"Rar" is one of our most fav tracks from "Cranes and Carpets" by Onom Agemo & The Disco Jumpers. time to put this monster groove on a 7" Single which also includes a remix by the always great Radio Citizen.

Cosmic Neighbourhood is the brainchild of Bristol-based illustrator and musician Adam Higton. In the words of It's Nice That, Higton's works 'conjure crisp autumnal smells, the Incredible String Band, children's bedsheets, tree carvings, Morris Men, Steeleye Span, and the patterned variety of 1970s crockery you often see in caravans.' Adam was recently seen performing at Pick Me Up design festival, hunched over a synth and disguised as a six-foot tall mushroom. His wide-eyed, mossy view of the world is endlessly endearing.

Sonically, Collages I straddles new and old, taking modular electronics, flutes, bells and softly pattering drum machines, before colouring them all with the amber glow of some forgotten, psychedelic kids' TV programme. Higton's benign toots and echoing jingles bring to mind Daphne Oram's early delay experiments or the meandering playfulness of Tom Cameron. Indeed, this radiophonic, time-worn approach has won Adam fans at arch archivists Ghost Box. In the words of the artist, this release 'documents the daily goings-on of the forest folk within the realm of the Cosmic Neighbourhood. The collages came first and the music acts as a response to each individual composition.'

This record took me about 3 years to complete, and I feel like in many ways it's a return to my roots of introspective, mellow, instrumental electronic music, a "home listening" record instead of a club or dance record. I've always tried to not pay attention to trends in electronic music and just make what I like, and this record is the result of going strongly in that direction - I'm making music for myself, and am inspired way more by older music than current trends in electronic music or the latest production techniques. My aim is to make music that stands the test of time.

'Presidio' is very organic - I used a lot of real instruments throughout: rhodes, guitar, bass, melodica, and more. Not many overdubs were used: I was after a loose, human, unquantized feel in much of it. However, I still use a lot of synthesizers and drum machines - I love the contrast between perfectly timed electronic sequences and loose, human, even "sloppy" timing.

About 2 years ago I moved to a remote, forested part of San Francisco - the Presidio, and the isolation of living in the forest next to the Pacific Ocean strongly influenced my approach to recording. My home studio is near the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge, and is surrounded by miles of trails and foggy eucalyptus groves. At night I hear foghorns, owls, and coyotes. I think living in a place like this has made me more introspective, more creative, and more willing to take my music in directions that are very personal.

Fog is a regular fixture in San Francisco, but it's especially omnipresent the closer you get to the ocean. Fog and reverb are closely related in my mind - I like creating dense washes of sound in my music, where all of the elements bleed together into a beautiful gaussian blur of sound.

Limited edition of 300 copies. Experimedia presents Fabrik, the second album on Experimedia by Denmark's Jannick Schou following his 2011 album The Act of Shimmering. Like his 2013 self released EP Fasjil, Fabrik sees Schou further fold his powerful ambient sound into deep & heavy techno territories.

Inspired by a long lost tale from dark and cold northern lands, written many ages ago, 'Neida' is the story of a young boy who one day noticed an eerie call, so peculiar and odd that he could not resist but to follow it. While it resonated through remnants of ancient settlings, the boy had to overcome many obstacles and solve numerous quests, journey through mystical forests, foggy mountains and ghostly villages, battle the forces of nature and lose himself in this adventure. Finally reaching the ocean after an exhausting voyage, a mysterious invisible force drew him closer and closer to it, suddenly entranced in a state between consciousness, floating underwater, lured by the siren of the sea.

'Neida' comes out worldwide on limited vinyl (including download code).

The next release on Rinse comes from Laura Clock, with a four-track EP of spacious, melody-driven songs named Baby Part I.  Clock crafts a music that is alive with contrasts . Shimmery in tone yet shot through with powerful sub-bass and percussive trickery, her songs feel simultaneously weightless and overpowering, and pack a striking emotional resonance.

Baby Part I marks the follow-up to her acclaimed 2013 debut First Prom, released under the name ButterClock . It was written, produced and recorded by Clock over the course of 2014 following several years of near-constant  touring, and explores similar lyrical themes to its predecessor - ' sad love , melancholia and dance beats,' as she puts it. ''Cause we never really change, do we Dancing and crying at the same time, forever.'


Yet Baby Part I nonetheless finds her in a distinct sonic place: subtler, bolder and more expansive in vision. That shift is crystallized in lead track 'Fade', a translucent dancehall-of-mirrors of an electronic pop song that finds Clock wandering through a maze of reggaeton rhythms and glassy-eyed melodies. The same sense of being adrift in sound and light runs throughout the EP.

Exquisitely spaced-out 'Fantasy', produced by Ana Caprix, weaves sound, mood and lyrics into an inseparable whole - Clock sings of becoming 'lost inside' as her voice half-melts into its surroundings, swallowed up by chiming melodies and blinding-white synth drifts. 'Cold' is both moving and quietly uneasy, her lyrics delivered with an aching synthetic bite. Finally, 'Slowly' is a headlong soundclash between Clock's sorrow-laden voice, synthetic choral synths and crunching rap beats, featuring a fast-paced turn from rapper Nina B - the EP's most striking moment and its dizzying emotional peak.

This is a second selection of independent disco records featuring rare and classic tracks originally released in the USA between the halcyon years of 1977 and 1985.

- Brainfeeder's sole British representative Lapalux follows up on 2013's 'Nostalchic' with his second longplayer 'Lustmore', an album loosely based on the experience of hypnogogia (a transitional state of consciousness between wakefulness and sleep). His infectious rhythms, enveloping textures and unfamiliarly familiar melodies conjure that territory perfectly.

After a 8 year hiatus React is ever so pleased to be returning with Volume 8 of Real Ibiza. First launched in 2000 Real Ibiza was one of the first wave of Ibiza / Balearic inspired compilations. A cornerstone of the genre alongside the Cafe Del Mar series. Real Ibiza gets inside the Balearic bloodstream by mixing in downtempo sensibilities, mellow house, cool jazz and plentiful doses of evening sunwashed grooves. For episode 8 Bahamian DJ Loudery takes a trip to the white isle and samples its musical DNA.

Although the sounds on this compilation all may Balearic, the producers from behind them are truly a global bunch. Ibiza spreads a wide net. First up, Glasgow based Korvids drip into the soundscape with the sleazy, jazzy, sax driven opener "Ursula My Dear". Next Dutch based Electronic Bodyguards take things on a vocal twist. More saxophones, on point electric guitar and a beach handclap beat.

Two regulars from the Real Ibiza series are English man Chris Coco and Scandinavian Lenny Ibizarre. Here they join forces for their reggae tinted take on the Peter Green / Fleetwood Mac classic "Albatross". Staying Sweden side Polar Rundfunk team with Annemarie Zimakoff for beachside, moonwashed, forlorn love song in "Dreaming About You". 1Blip2 are next with their percussive, quirky seaside groove. Things slow down for the ambient "Hollow Words" from Jamie Isaac before the summer time groove is back with "Plaids Aquatic" from UK based "The Village Elephant".

We take a short Spanish themed detour, first with the glorious Spanish guitar from Dimitry Raschepkin and then some bossa nova beats from Argentinian Augustin Pereyra Lucena. No Balearic compilation would be complete without a visitation from Cafe Del Mar resident Jose Padilla. Here he contributes his muscular downtempo houser "Elixir". Italian based American Tony Carascco (one half of Klein and MBO) shows his mellower side with the beautiful sax melody from "Primavera" from his Audio Affair project. "Lost Angel" follows, smooth sax and leftfield groove from the Russian pair Voronsov and Dorohov.

"Tangerine" from UK based Amane is next, some downtempo soundscape to set the tone for Amani (yup one letter difference) with the haunting "Shine On Me" Ilya Santana providing the sister island remix. A third producer-trip to Sweden for this compilation is next with Kenneth Bagers "Amazing". Big grooves, big hooks and early heaving house groove to cherish. "My Boo (Don't Forget)" is next from Dubai based Glass Coffee sounding adding in spooky samples overlaid into a hot evening mellow groove.

We round off the sound trip with a brand new track from San Francisco producer Sorcerer "Secret Agent". This mans music just bleeds summer in its veins. Layers of tight Stratocaster and poolside groove. Things close up with another track from the Korvids, here they team up with Jose Padilla for his chilled out version of their Beach Coma epic.

Dark Entries is proud to release the sophomore EP from BEZIER entitled Telomeres. Bézier is the moniker of local SF musician ROBERT YANG, who also is part of the illustrious HONEY SOUNDSYSTEM crew. Telomeres is the follow up to Bézier's debut EP Ensconced, released in 2013. The title relates to themes of time, science, analytics and procedures. Bézier integrates the refrains of Spanish new wave and Italo disco with the attitude and aggression of underground styles like synth-punk and industrial. These six tracks were written, produced and mixed by Bézier at his home studio in San Francisco between 2014 and 2015, and feature the debut of his own vocals. All songs have been mixed by Mark Pistel (of Meat Beat Manifesto fame) at Room 5, San Francisco and EQed for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes housed in a jacket featuring an illustration by in-house designer Eloise Leigh riffing on early 80s computer graphics. The matted sleeve is meant to resemble the side panels of early computing instruments like Macintoshes or the Commodore 64. Each LP includes a postcard with a photograph of actual telomeres captured by a microscope camera by the Blackburn Lab at UCSF. Telomeres' are life's building blocks, changing the lengths of chromosomes to determine lifespan. This music is an investigation of a future in which time elongates as well as contracts.

Music is nothing if it can't help you bring your dreams to life, and DJ Cam has just made one of his biggest dreams come true - composing a soundtrack to "Miami Vice".

Although strictly unofficial and a pure product of his cinematic mind, this OST is intrinsically linked to the legendary series: as a feature-length album, a collection of cinematic sequences, his Miami Vice strongly evokes Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs and their investigations set in the sordid underworld of Florida's jetset.

The beatmaker has sequenced his tracks like scenes from a script, alternating the dark atmosphere of trap music with more jazzy vibes ( Love Theme', Tubbs Theme'). Electronic tracks are also very much present, as they were on his previous album Seven. The Chase' evokes a breathless action scene, while the footwork beats of Move That Dope' and Welcome to Little Haiti' reflect the intense nocturnal energy of the city.

Special guest star MC Eiht (who played A-Wax in the Hughes brothers' cult movie "Menace II Society") raps on Music To Drive By' and Street Life'. Throughout his long career, everything he has recorded has a real cinematic feel to it. MC Eiht was the perfect MC for this type of track,' says Cam. He also couldn't miss paying homage to what is practically the Miami theme song: In The Air Tonight' by Phil Collins. Here, he respectfully revisits it in a deep, cerebral fashion.

Cam's Miami Vice is fourteen visual tracks, an imaginary score that positions itself as the 'official' soundtrack just as Hollywood is preparing to film a reboot, following the first movie adaptation in 2005 by the series' original producer - and now cult director - Michael Mann. Miami Vice definitely puts the 'camera' back in Cam, making him the first-person view for our cinematic cortex.

A couple of years ago, Epoch established his Egyptian Avenue imprint with a few releases of skewed, bass-heavy club tracks from himself, Wen and Filter Dread. In the hiatus since, Epoch has been busy releasing on Innamind Recordings and Keysound compilations, but now - with little warning - he is resurrecting Egyptian Avenue with a startling change of direction. AVENUE001 features a couple of original Epoch productions that are a distinct step away from previous material, as he crafts two deeply reflective soundscapes built for nocturnal listening. The record's A side, Windmill, features the soulful vocal talents of London-based AFIYA. Her voice transfixes; meandering and drifting over waves of gently probing breakbeats and a grainy synth melody line to powerfully emotive effect. Even more wistful and sombre still, Devotion combines ghostly atmospherics with the chilling vocal and violin contributions of accomplished LA-based musician Alicia Kiah. Sunken ripples of sub-bass lurk beneath her violin strokes and the insistently swaying percussion, creating a mournful, yet beautiful, piece of music. The personal, emotionally charged nature of Epoch's release perhaps showcases another facet of his production, and marks a fine way to re-launch Egyptian Avenue.

Summer is with us once more and its time for the 6th instalment of the Beach Disco sessions. Six years of summer music for the sun yup time flies. This year (as in 2014) we have enlisted the help of the highly able DJ skills of "Situation" from the west country of the UK. Ben Vacara and Mr Mullato have done a swell job of selecting and mixing a fine slice of Balearic disco summer for the 17 track CD.

Things open up from the left field and 1980. Mysteriously mislaid tapes from Roland Romanelli and Jannick Top, who had just finished on sessions for Space /(Magic Fly) 3rd album. A slow burner opener. Next we head off Vilnius, Lithuania where Downtown Party Network present a slice of chunky nu disco grooviness. Beach Disco hosts Situation are next up with their "Get To Know Me" a fine slice of soul-disco party, vocal house. Next its jazzy house disco with "County Clonk" with Norwegian Nordic disco-meister Lindstrom on the quirky remix.

Audio Luxury from Russia give us "Every Kiss" and Situation give us some sunrays with "Here Comes The Sun". Next, Canaries Island resident Ilya Santana hits us up with a brand new tune the hypnotic "Hypo-Disco". Next we take a trip back to the 80s with Bill Laswells Material partnering with the Chic man Niles Rodgers for some of those un-mistakable guitar chops. Bronx Dogs then get bass guitar groovy followed by Ruff Dugs mix on the classic "Ditry Talk" by Klein and MBO (the song that inspired Blue Monday).
