We Are Not The First combines the musical forces of Marshall Allen, Daniel Carter, Greg Fox, Shelley Hirsch, Shahzad Ismaily, Elliott Levin, Jamal Moss, Rafael Sanchez, and Ben Vida in deep dialogue with each other and humans' hidden sonic history. Two of the most respected labels in dance music, Defected Records and Get Physical, have joined forces on a pioneering new mix album as well as a series of live events taking place in London, Ibiza and Berlin this Autumn.

Defected and Get Physical are giants in the world of electronic music. As two of the longest-standing and most celebrated labels they set the standard by which other record companies are measured, their respective catalogues including countless seminal, genre-defining records, while their parties are regularly cited as setting house music standards worldwide.

Defected Gets Physical Mixed by DJ T. and Luke Solomon sees their respective catalogues explored and exhibited as never before, while a trio of live events in London, Berlin and Ibiza - undoubtedly the three electronic epicentres of Europe - involving DJ T., Luke Solomon, M.A.N.D.Y, Paolo Rocco, Eddie Fowlkes, Juan Maclean, Jesse Rose and Simon Dunmore proudly celebrate a collaborative mind-set synonymous with its original spirit of house music.

Switching things up for a unique approach to the tried-and-tested mix format, on Defected Gets Physical Mixed by DJ T. and Luke Solomon, Get Physical co-founder DJ T. compiles and mixes his side from Defected's vaults, while Classic Music Company and Defected A&R Luke Solomon gets to grips with Get Physical's vast collection.

The records included span the histories of both labels, with tracks and remixes from a who's who of electronic excellence including Matthew Dear, Jimmy Edgar, Maya Jane Coles, Guti, Dennis Ferrer, KiNK, Osunlade, Catz 'N Dogz and many more.

In addition to selecting and mixing their respective sides, both DJ T. and Luke Solomon have contributed a number of exclusive re-edits, which are included unmixed on CD3.

Then, taking the collaborative spirit of the album on the road, the Defected Get Physical Tour takes place over two weekends this September, with parties at Fire, London (12th), Amnesia, Ibiza (15th) and Chalet, Berlin (19th).

The Mexican collective Future Feelings is made up of Fernando Dimare, Juan Soto (an existing Nang warrior), Thomass Jackson and Dan Solo. The talented bunch make accessible dance tunes which are easily at home on the floor or for listening too. After a string of festivals and appearances in South America and a slew of remixes (for artists such as Lindstrom, Donna Summer, Goldroom, Treasure Fingers and The Knocks) we are pleased to be releasing their debut album on Nang.

The album seamlessly darts from leftfield electronic-art pop to dance floor energizers to downtempo soundscapes. What is for sure however is the song-writing is key in each track. The package all hangs together with a production sheen which is polished, adventurous and accomplished.

The album opens up with the guitar driven mood piece "Over Me" featuring Karla Gonzalez. Sounding like a cross between an Anthony and The Johnsons album track and a smoldering Carly Simon album track from 1978 it opens up the album with the lightest of touches. All before heading to locked on groove territory with "Find Out" and "Creature Of The Night" (sounding like the Scissor Sisters taking a funk lesson).

Next is recent single "Downtown Girl", which mixes a solid European dance floor groove with a touch of New York / DFA indie 1982 nu-wave. "Rite There"is another song piece, this time driven by smooth picked acoustic guitar and a sublime vocal. "Empty" adds touches of Zero 7 and Ibiza and "Jungle Light" and "Don't Let Go" take things to a funkier plane.

"The Feeling" is a pure Nang sound.. stabby synth, rolling disco synths and punchy bassline.. .all wrapped up with a smooth vocal. "Can't Hide It" is next bringing the emotive song to the for once more before we finish proceedings with the uptempo "Wonder" with its 80's synth stomper greatness.

A fan of limitations, The Maghreban took multi samples from his Casio MT-70 keyboard and used only them to make this EP whilst on holiday in North Wales last year.

Most of the tracks were made whilst staying at Portmeirion, the strange resort where "The Prisoner" was filmed in the late 60s. The Maghreban is a fan.

The result is more mechanical than previous excursions, dictated by the entirely synthetic source material. No dusty vinyl samples this time. More techno.

Working on opposite sides of the landmass we call Canada, Vancouver/Montreal duo Potatohead People (producers Nick Wisdom & AstroLogical) have been making waves for quite some time with their signature jazzy boom-bap meets boogie inside the bassbin vibes. Called a "formidable tandem" by OkayPlayer, their sounds have been championed early on by the likes of Kaytranada, Soulection, Nightmares on Wax, Pomo, Exmag, Big Boi, and Phife Dawg. After a few early releases on Vancouver based netlabel Jellyfish Recordings, Brooklyn's Bastard Jazz reissued their 2012 landmark Kosmichemusik EP and pressed a 7" released on Valentine's Day 2013. The association landed their song "Back To My Sh*t" (featuring Frank Nitty of Frank'n'Dank) on a Powerade produced LeBron James documentary and Nick and Astro began working on a debut LP for Bastard Jazz, presented here.

Big Luxury draws from influences disparate as classic jazz, prog rock, disco 90's hop, DJ Shadow-Era downtempo beats, alongside modern influences like the Brainfeeder crew and new electronic sounds coming out of Nick Wisdom's adopted hometown of Montreal. What's resulted is a finely honed, extra buttery album that effortly glides between tempos, but never loses the mood. The album also features a whole host of guest vocalists - J Dilla's younger brother Illa J, legendary Canadian MC Moka Only, New Zealand's Sorceress, and Amalia all provide contributions to the sounds within. Big Luxury is a velvety ride through vibes and a magnificent debut for these talented young Canadians.

Autechre Tour Support Cygnus Announces Radical User Interfaces EP On Central Processing Unit.

Dallas based artist Cygnus returns to Central Processing Unit with his fourth release for the Sheffield based future facing electro imprint with his Radical User Interfaces EP. The EP's release will coincide with Autechre's North American tour this autumn, on which Cygnus has been announced as support joining the Warp act's resident tour DJ Rob Hall for all 19 dates.

Invoking scenes from possible intergalactic situations Cygnus runs the four track offering off bit crunched funk, machinic constructs and glistening synth work. The artwork as with all CPU releases has been created by Sheffield based design collective Human; pressed to white vinyl the record is limited to 300 copies.

Synth-tamer, analog-fetishist and arpeggio aficionado, French-house producer Electrosexual merges primitive analog electronic music with original avant-hard sophisticated programming.
In his Berlin-based bunker, armed with his array of analog synths, ( sometimes reaching fetishism' says Ann Shenton of Add N To (X)) and a DIY approach, Electrosexual creates a sound somewhere between Joy Division and Giorgio Moroder.
Electrosexual, who has recently worked with Billie Ray Martin, Aerea Negrot, Peaches & David Carretta teams up, on the I Feel Love release, with Mz Sunday Luv. She plays with gender, fire and vinyl and, together with Electrosexual, create a powerful duo. In addition to his personal releases, his production and remix talent have recently been applied to the new album Rodeo Boys' by Dead Sexy Inc, as well as to tracks by David Carretta, Steve Morell, Noblesse Oblige, Desireless and Robots in Disguise (UK).

FLORA QUARTET is a combination of slide projections, field recording and the sound of musicians from the Sejny Theatre Klezmer Orchestra and Sztetl. The point of departure was the observation of forms, shapes, colours and sounds. Improvisation, composition, sound landscapes, humour and fairy tale narrations - FLORA QUARTET is at the intersection of all those elements.

Bios:

Marcin Dymiter aka Emiter operates in the area of modern electronica and improvised music. He creates sound installations, radio shows, music for films, theatre, exhibitions, public spaces, and performs music during screenings of silent movies. He leads his own sound workshops and activities promoting the idea of field recording. Dymiter also works as a music producer. He has participated in music workshops in Poland and abroad, e.g. workshops led by Le Quan Ninh, Andrew Sharpley, John Butcher and Robin Minard. Dymiter received the scholarship of the University of Art in Berlin and was the finalist of the Netmage International Multimedia Festival contest in Bologna. He also received the scholarship of the Pomeranian Voivodship and the Ministry of the Culture and National Heritage (2011) and the Visegrad Fund (2012). The member of the Polish Electroacoustic Music Association. Previously a member of bands Ewa Braun, Mapa and Mordy.

Piotr Janiec - tuba player. Cooperates with theCentre "Borderland of Arts, Cultures and Nations", where he started playing tuba. Involved in Klezmer music, he plays and performs in Poland and abroad. The member of the Klezmer Orchestra of the Sejny Theatre. He has participated in workshops of Paul Brody, Frank London, Steve Swell, David Krakauer and Mikolaj Trzaska. Since 2008, Janiec has been associated with the Warsaw music scene. He now performs with Trifonidis Orchestra, Trifonidis Free Orchestra, Frozen Bird, Muzyka Miejsca and Sejny Theatre Klezmer Orchestra. He cooperates with musicians such as Maciek Bielawski, Pawel Szamburski, Patryk Zakrocki, Raphael Roginski, Michal Górczynski, Jerzy Mazzoll, Piotr Zabrodzki, Tomasz Duda, Pawel Szpura, Pawel Miskiewicz, Radek Duda, Wojtek Traczyk, Ray Dickaty and Kamil Szuszkiewicz.

Jessy Lanza meets the Teklife crew on this sultry EP, with DJ Spinn and Taso's first-released RnB track, and a Teklife footwork remix with assistance from the late DJ Rashad. The main mix is a dejected confessional slow jam with Jessy's plaintive vocal sitting in the middle of spiralling drums and teardrop-like chords, a gentle guitar refrain dropping in at the end like a comforting hand on the shoulder. Following an instrumental version, the Teklife mix doubles the tempo, switching the gentleness to deliver an interpretation that touches on tense anger, with the sweeping chords the track is built on snapping into shivering shapes, as strings simmer in the background, building the tension. Also included is Bambounou's remix of 'Fuck Diamond', a track on Jessy's 'Pull My Hair Back' debut album, which appears here on vinyl for the first time after an initial CD-only release last year on the 'Hyperdub 10.4' compilation). Bambounou transforms it into a rough drum machine workout, leaving sparse elements of the original in place - a splash of vocal and a held chord - building a dynamic trance that slips and slides in and out of different patterns.

Footwork'—the very word indicates a movement of the feet that is work' (as in an effort to achieve). Its joyous social party nature sits within a lineage of African American history that includes the infamous Soul Train dance tunnel and Hip Hop dance circles. However, as Footwork continues to become more popular, we should not forget that at its essence it is a highly evolved battle form. This is the central theme one feels listening to the stunning Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints,' the second album from RP Boo, the man credited with inventing the Footwork genre with a 1997 track Baby Come On' (recently re-released on the Planet Mu EP Classics Vol. 1'). RP Boo is to Footwork what Juan Atkins is to Techno - a source point for a busting out of innovative ideas and new directions. When asked about his role as progenitor of the genre he humbly notes, It has taken me a while to adjust to. I actually had to think about how it could have come to be by listening to other producers and DJs that were around as it was forming. All of them said, at different times, hey RP you know you created a mean following of people that are inspired by the way you make tracks and get the dancers into a whole new battle stage with energy. It helps me see that I represent a breathing source of sounds.' Dancing is central to RP Boo. If you've been lucky enough to catch one of his DJ sets, such as his groundbreaking 2013 European debut at Unsound Festival in Krakow, you'll have seen him come out from behind the decks and start dancing in and with the crowd, spreading Footwork both sonically and as an evolving set of movements. People who meet RP Boo may note a stark contrast between the intense battle aesthetics of Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints' and the joyousness of RP Boo as an individual. He says, I know how to speak battle from being in the circles. Footworkers need fuel and they often say, only you can get us to battle like that. Once outside the turntables, I use the same energy to speak with people. It's a job and I am strong on giving encouragement to others, I want to uplift people. I have to try and walk that life for as long as I am alive.'Sonically, RP Boo is a modern-day Zatoichi samurai, cutting his samples in unorthodox ways. His sound remains unique. Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints' contains both tracks made after his acclaimed 2013 debut album Legacy' ( An album of scorching, scene-defining hits' SPIN) and older tracks. Highlights include Banging On King Dr.' which sees him cutting up street numbers, the monolithic noir feeling of Sleepy', the subtle funk of Your Choice' which may in some way be inspired by his Dad's role as bass player for Prince, Lets Dance Again' whose delicate soulful sound echoes deep streams of Chicago dance music history, the dramatic string-infused Daddy's Home' and the celebration of achieving dreams that is the closer B'Ware.' Fingers, Bank Pads & Shoe Prints' is the sound of an innovator reconfirming his place as leader with one of the most essential Footwork albums to date.

Composer and producer Robert Logan's first album 'Cognessence' [2007] prompted an array of rave reviews and favourable comparisons to some of the giants of electronic music. Still only 19 at the time he was described as "...;something of a prodigy...; a man that is already showing a maturity and a musical/textural understanding that many simply never find." [BBC]. A second album 'Inscape' and a clutch of EP's garnered yet more praise and cemented his reputation as an artist with immense talent.

His recent 'Extasis EP' marked his first solo release five years, a period in which he diverted his attentions to his blossoming career in soundtrack work and notable collaborations with the likes of Brigitte Fontaine, Grace Jones, Steve Roach and Skye [Morcheeba]. The EP received support and praise from the likes of BBC6, Igloo, Sound Colour Vibration, DJ Mag and Vinyl Factory to name a few.

The follow up 'Flesh' is Logan's third full-length album and sees him further develop his idiosyncratic sound whilst continuing to open up new possibilities within the field of electronic music. As ever, Logan's methodology is rooted in an obsessive desire to push the technology at his disposal to the limit - all his sounds are created from scratch or are created by deconstructing found sounds and acoustic instruments through extreme digital processes. Moreover, most of the album is composed using quarter tones, an experiment which is most in evidence on tracks that feature contributions from Andy Knight [Emporor's New Clothes] on pocket trumpet. Other contributors include Sarah Sarhandi on viola and drummer Frank Byng [Snorkel, Prescott] who guests on the first three tracks and is a nod to his live band set up. This contrast between 'live' instrumentation and his own digital methods taps into some of the themes that Logan is exploring in the music and that give the album its title - ideas about flesh and spirit, technology and nature, mind and matter.

The music on offer ranges from the melodic and garage inspired bounce of 'Phrack', the sophisticated dark grooves of 'Viker Raver' and 'Straighten', the complex and breathless overtures and overtones of 'Vespine Domain' and 'Spirit Wars', to his more out of the box experiments with tracks such as 'Glad Centipede', 'Cyborg Horn' and 'Playground'

Having minted his Snowfall imprint with the acclaimed 'Clamor' EP earlier this year, Ross Tones aka Throwing Snow returns on December 3rd for his second EP of 2012, the eagerly awaited 'Aspera'. As with its predecessor, the title comes laced with Latin rhetoric: 'Aspera' translating as 'to make rough', providing an apt description for the aesthetic of the four original tracks on offer.
