'Chico Buarque Construção Revisited' by L_cio is a beautiful debut project part of a DOC series of releases combining classic Brazilian names with DOC artists and producers.
L_cio (Laercio Schwantes) the man with the transverse flute known for some of the freshest and unique tracks coming out from Brazil is behind this gemstone.
Increasingly building a legacy of fans following his live performances and recent releases on DOC Records (Vazio; Traffic; People Talk; Schwantes), this man is a non-stoppable 30 hours machine gun.
On this long awaited 2-track limited edition vinyl release, L_cio and Gui Boratto kept the roots of this classic track 'Construção'. However they added all the proper elements of a techno dance floor knockout. By inserting malicious baselines, flutes and strings they generated aggressive melodies while keeping all characteristics of this epic song.

Voted as the greatest Brazilian song by Rolling Stones magazine, 'Construção was originaly recorded by Chico Buarque in 1971 with production by Roberto Menescal. Released during military dictatorship, Chico Buarque criticizes the way of life of the Brazilian workers, comparing them to machines.

The song is known for its interchangeable last words, used 'as if they were pieces of a board game', as said by Buarque.
Generatiions apart, Construção (L_cio & K_ri Version)' and 'Construção (L_cio & Boratto's Deconstructed Mix)' are the first ever authorized remixes in over 45 years.

All tracks are written by either Sabrina, or in collaboration with her father Alex Malheiros and producer Daniel Maunick. Written and recorded in Niteroi, Brazil, overlooking Gunabara Bay and Rio's beaches, mountains and forests, the music basks in its surroundings and sings of ecological beauty, peace and sanctuary. This pursuit of clarity continued into the studio: It took a little longer than usual' notes Sabrina, which was good in way, as all my previous albums were recorded in rush and we usually had a week for pre-production and another week in the studio, which always gave me the feeling that I could do better. With this album it was different... we took our time.'

Sabrina's unmistakable voice has never sounded better. Packed out with high-octane swinging samba-soul, like the title-track and 'Salve O Mar', the album also features some bottom-heavy Brazilian boogie cuts, like rejoicing album opener 'Celebrar' which harks back to some of Marcos Valle's cult '80s disco output, and 'Sol Ceu E Mar' is a Tania Maria-esque future classic of scorching latin-funk. Mellower moments are found in 'Em Paz', on which Sabrina's beguiling harmonies find an anchor in the rhythmic acoustic guitar of Ze Carlos', who Sabrina heralds as being the best guitarist I have ever worked with'. Azymuth's keyboardist Kiko Continentino's deft Rhodes, piano, organ and synth playing, add ever more textures of distinctly Brazilian brilliance throughout, while tropical brass and flute arrangements on cool bossa-jazz movers 'Vai Maria' and 'Sandore', come from Brazilian saxophone legend Leo Gandleman, a man who has worked with everyone from Gal Costa to Gilberto Gil. The rhythm section combines Daniel Maunick's seamless drum programming and the organic polyrhythms of Brazilian percussion legend Jakare, all punctuated by Alex Malheiros' inimitable (occasionally slapped) jazz-funk bass, giving the album its irresistibly danceable pulse.

Set for release at the height of summer this year, Clareia is an intergenerational masterclass of Brazil's soulful spectrum, led by a pioneering voice of today's scene on the very top of her game. The up-lifting compositions, which take inspiration from the stunning natural beauty amongst which the album was made, and the call for the clarity of mind needed to preserve it, are enriched by this special team of some of Brazil's most established musicians. Like the sun breaking through tropical storm-clouds, Clareia is a vessel of joy, as Sabrina puts it simply, I hope Clareia brightens the soul of whoever listens to it. That's the spirit of this album.'

Sunlightsquare's first single of 2017, Oyelo, is a mixture of Jazz, Cuban and House music in its most authentic form. Starting with moody latin-jazz piano and sun-drenched live percussion played by master percussionist Giovanni Imparato, the track is driven by the classic house beat of the TR-909 - the legendary 1980's drum machine. Ronnie Scott's resident Cuban singer Rene Alvarez delivers the impassioned vocals, followed by the main man Claudio Passavanti's heated Montuno piano riffs, which combine seamlessly to create a blissful, dance-floor experience. It's a perfect marriage of organic grooves, lush beats and soulful vocals, joining the dots between different generations of latin dance music.

For the B side, London based, Japanese producer Kay Suzuki transformed the original track into his signature psychedelic journey in 2 parts. His By The Sea Mix takes you to the Havana beach with its synthesiser generated waves & seagulls right from the intro. The stripped-down beats and vocals are smoothly laid out with warm analogue synth textures, giving more space to Claudio's tasteful latin-jazz keyboard improvisations.

In contrast, the Drum Dub goes to the opposite side of the spectrum, all the musical elements have been removed, focusing solely on the live percussion and the raw TR-909 beat, all dubbed out with tape delays for a classic cosmic dub treatment.

Following the sold out Theo Parrish remix of Marcos Valle's '1985', here's the second in Far Out's Brazilika 12" with three scorching remixes from UK dance veteran Ashley Beedle. Three peak time excursions into percussive, soulful house on a stylish, cosmic Brazilian party tip.

Following the sold out Theo Parrish remix of Marcos Valle's '1985' back in April, the second release in Far Out's Brazilika 12' series features a highlight from Sabrina Malheiros' 2011 album 'Dreaming': the blissed-out, sun soaked samba classic 'Opara', which gets three scorching remixes from UK dance veteran Ashley Beedle.

Currently celebrating a decade since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album 'Equilibria', Sabrina Malheiros has remained at the forefront of modern, soul-infused Brazilian music. Growing up in Rio, the daughter of Alex Malheiros, bassist of Jazz-funk pioneers Azymuth, Sabrina has taken the legacy of samba and bossa nova and forged her own forward-thinking path, taking with her all the style and substance of the early days.

Produced under his Afrikanz On Marz moniker, Beedle's remix brings all the right elements of the original to the fore. The result is three peak time excursions into percussive, soulful house on a stylish, cosmic Brazilian party tip, infused with rich, warm rhodes, synth and flute throughout.

The vocal mix on the A side provides a spacious backdrop of twinkling keys and buoyant percussion to Malheiros' gently floating strains. The other mixes offer similarly floor-focused variations: the aptly titled 'Galactic Flute Remix' on the flip pairs the titular wind instrument with a deeper groove that retains the loose-limbed appeal of the original, plus a bonus instrumental to boot. A sure fire heat bringer and certainly one of the most colourful dance 12's we've heard this year.

The Brazilika 12' series is the new vinyl home to the previously unreleased dance exclusives taken from the Spiritual South mix on CD2 of Far Out's 20th anniversary double compilation, released in May 2015.

Sunlightsquare keeps on exploring multiple style of House music this summer. The previous single from the last month "Oyelo" was a winning combination of authentic Latin Cuban music and classic 909 House beats. It was championed by Ron Trent, Osunlade, Hunee, Bradley Zero, Nick The Record and Atjazz to name a few. This time, the main man and keyboard wizard Claudio Passavanti deployed two remixers for deeper and more spiritual endeavour to showcase his magical composition.

Hailing from the birth place of South African House music Pretoria, the talented young producer Blaqtone laid out beautiful sunset pad, earthy African percussions and solid rolling beats, all work like magic with Claudio's original spiritual keyboard works.

On the flip side, Kay Suzuki pulled off another dubbed out psychedelic mix with "Astro Dub", just like the previous release, and the more dance-floor oriented classic deep House style of "Moon Mix" influenced by the likes of Larry Heard. The track features sequenced Mini-Moog bass line and call & response drum programming before blissful harmonies and melodies kick in.

Same Speed Sambas are back to celebrate the sound of the summer in 2017 in their very own unique way. Following on from last year's now hugely sought after debut, they have dug even deeper, searching out for more obscure uses of Brasilian rhythms and coming up with two dance floor delights - one from Denmark and another from right here in the UK - giving them once again, that unique Same Speed re-touch.

Samba Operator takes a rare live recording of one of the UK's finest soul acts of the 80s' biggest hits and re-works it into a mostrous tropical club anthem, while Numero Dois goes down the Samba-Not-Samba route taking a Danish 70s girl band and giving them some very warm disco treatment. The result is something very contemporary sounding that'll fire up the dance every time.

All Same Speed releases are limited, hand-stamped vinyl-only affairs, but also be on the look out for the occasional re-work of more contemporary artists, available for free download as a little treat, to pimp up your DJ sets this summer.

With 'Althaea', Trailer Trash Tracys follow-up to 2012's critically acclaimed debut album 'Ester', the band continue their investigations into the farther flung reaches of pop music, with stunning results.

Spanning 10 deeply esoteric tracks, 'Althaea' sees the
band drift further afield from traditional song structures to create a new aural lexicon of their own, one as influenced by Filipino carnival music and Latin rhythms as it was by Japanese tropical music from the 80s. Even at their most outwardly pop - the pristine 'Eden Machine', for instance, or the swooning 'Kalesa' - there is a baroque splendour and heightened sensuality. The interplay of light and dark - the foreign and the familiar - brings forth an album with manifold pleasures, one which rewards repeated listening and further exploration.

The album is also a soundtrack to Filipino filmmakers Raya Martin and Charles Salazar's forthcoming film with the same name. On their collaboration Raya says, 'Althaea' is a narrative about being stuck in a strange mystical island. It's a landscape that's at once familiar, aggressive, drifting, odd and unexpected. The music
by Trailer Trash Tracys perfectly transports us to this place hidden in all of us.'

12" EP sampler taken from the Nickodemus compiled Turntables on the Hudson Vol. 10 album released at the beginning of the summer. Big A-side cuts include Bonobo's latest anthem "Flashlight" and one of the biggest house tunes of the year, the absolutely massive Beatport chart topping Claptone remix of "Liquid Spirit" by Gregory Porter which sees it's FIRST EVER vinyl release on this 12". On the flip side, South Africa's Aero Manyelo gives us "Tshunga", a driving, pulsing African deep house track, while Pablo Sanchez takes New Zealand's Sorceress into dancefloor territory with his remix of "Brother Dragonfly

Sofrito present a unique slice of afro-disco from the celebrated griot, Niama Makalou, recorded in the late 70s.


Descended from a family of griots (traditional Malian praise singers), Niama Makalou moved to France in the mid 70s where she cut this, her one and only vinyl release. At the time Paris (like much the rest of the world) was swept up in disco fever, so along with a group of Malian musicians the date was set to cut a piece of disco, griot style. The resulting mixture of off kilter hand claps, raw string arrangements, Balafon flourishes and Bambara vocals combine with a heavy disco groove to produce a one-off piece of cross-cultural dancefloor mayhem.
On the flip Daphni (aka Caribou) crafts an extended version that distills it into a stripped down and dubbed out groove.

Three minutes of Haitian-styled dancefloor perfection by Dominica's finest, sixty years in the business, and cattin' Latin on the flip, injected with cowbells and Rhodes.

Dele Sosimi's album 'You No Fit Touch Am' was released in 2015 to much universal acclaim. A perfect document of the lessons the keyboard master and vocalist learned in Fela Kuti's ranks during the 70s and 80s, but brought firmly up-to-date and with contemporary social comment as vital to the Afrobeat genre as any rhythm or instrument. In 2016, to take that forward thinking even further, Wah Wah 45s commissioned four huge remixes from a quartet of the UK's most interesting new production names.

That was just part one of the story though - this year the label can reveal the final four remixes to be taken from this hugely popular and influential project.

Setting their sites further afield, first up is Roman turntablist and producer DJ Khalab. Since winning Track of the Year at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards in 2016 for his collaboration with Baba Sissiko, this talented Italian has been very much in demand. His remix of Dele's heavy hitter 'E Go Betta' combines sprightly electronics with ear-bending bass drops to provide a forward thinking dance floor destroyer.

Along side Khalab comes new boy to the scene and a definite name to watch in 2017, O'Flynn. His debut release on Blip Records was a percussive monster and something of a head-turner, and his latest offering on his very own imprint caught the ear of Gilles Peterson, among others. O'Flynn's re-edit of 'E Go Betta', one which gives it a little more foot friendly bounce, emerged on Wah Wah 45s in digital form last year, but proved so popular that it had to be included in this heavyweight 12-inch release.

On the flip, irreverent album cut 'I Don't Care' gets two very different re-works for two very different London based producers. First up, XVI recording artist Books comes through with a firing Afro-jazz/house workout aimed directly at feet, whereas Wah Wah 45s family member and up-and-coming knob-twiddler in his own right, Bopperson, offers up a more mid-tempo tropical delight - the perfect way to complete this stunning selection of remixes.

Once again, Wah Wah 45s have delivered four tracks of killer dance floor fodder for pretty much every occasion. Taking the already incendiary music of Dele Sosimi in a more angular and electronic direction, worthy of another 12" release on this most discerning imprint, we're sure you'll agree.

Born in Hackney, East London, but soon to return to his parents' native Nigeria at the age of four, Dele Sosimi was schooled and raised in Fela Anikulapo Kuti's shadow at the height of early 70s afrobeat. Having been chosen by Fela to join his band at somewhat of a tender age, he was still a young man when sharing Fela's Glastonbury stage in 1984, and became both Musical Director for both Fela's Egypt 80 and Femi Kuti's Positive Force.

After Fela's passing in 1997, Dele went on to concentrate on his own solo career and, with diligent patience, carved out his own Afrobeat crown. In London, where he now resides, his Afrobeat Vibration all-nighters are charged with his passion, labours and his unrelenting spirit and deliver Fela classics alongside his own compositions from his first two studio albums, Turbulent Times, and Identity.

London's new Afrobeat king is here to party and you're all welcome to join in!

Following on the success of their first collaboration, edit king Danny Krivit and Most Excellent Unlimited return with another eminently
useful two-sider. Krivit's reputation hardly needs to be detailed--anyone who has the slightest interest in dance music and DJ
culture will undoubtedly have a quiver of his renowned edits ready to be deployed on discerning dance floors.

'Corazon" was written by the singer/songwriter par excellence Carole King, and first appeared as a single in 1973. The song's soulful latin
flavor immediately caught the ear of the emerging disco movement, spawning cover versions that intensified the percussive groove and
thickened the bottom end. Danny's masterpiece edit seamlessly weaves King's original version with the most notable of these covers,
Creative Source's 1975 take. The jazzy, heavy vibes break has long been an automatic floor-filler in New York City, from the Bronx parks
where it was an early b-boy staple to the downtown Loft scene. This edit is truly the best of both worlds.

'Deep Sky" is of more cloudy origins, a modern counterpoint to the classic on the flip side. The loping groove, accented with strings,
percussion and a nod to the iconic trance birdcall sound effect, builds majestically, its epic 10-and-a-half minutes passing
effortlessly. The mid-tempo pace exudes a quiet energy that makes it an easy fit for a wide variety of rooms.

Both tracks have been mastered from Danny's personal collection and pressed onto high-quality virgin vinyl in extremely limited
quantities.

* As Resident Advisor's Christine Kakaire wrote in 2011 It's perhaps no mystery, though, why Means and Ways—the transcendent debut of Eric Porter Douglass' alias Afrikan Sciences—seemingly slipped everyone's attention (or rather, slipped my attention), on its release in April. Flying Lotus' freewheeling is of course, ultimately scribbled in the shorthand of a universal language—hip-hop. Douglass' preoccupation with rhythm, however, fixates on the oddities—the mutations, the dualities and instances of bare collision. His hoarded beats are gleaned from a whirlwind of origins—West London broken beat, the East Coast's '90s house, '40s jazz, indigenous African and Latin rhythms—but they're deployed concurrently and unexpectedly, with cross-beats and displacement used as accents in his own pidgin dialect.

Francisco Allendes, a classic violinist with a synth rock background, one of the most interesting electronic music artists from Chile, already released on Ghostly, Cadenza and several other labels. Italian born DJ, producer and Ibiza resident Paola Poletto, is not only the 'first female DJ to ever perform at Pacha' - she is also a graduated sound engineer. Together Francisco and Paola are not only the nicest couple of dance music, but as a producer team they are also about to leave a deep mark on the musical landscape. Their Desolat debut is a 4 track EP with their unique view on house music, full of optimism, fun and sundrenched grooves. Enjoy!

The opener is a rocking kumina rhythm, with ring-the-alarm metal percussion and exhortatory brass; Free The People swirls some apocalyptic reasoning into the foggy, thumping mix. Universe In Crisis is another emergency call, chuffing headlong down the grooves... before the beautiful, anthemic Chant takes a step back from the fire, closing with a sense of thankful, spiritual reconciliation, the expert drumming and lyrical bone-work in full effect.

Ocote Soul Sounds is Martin Perna, founder of the New York-based group Antibalas. together with Adrian Quesada, co-founder of the Grammy-winning Latin music powerhouse Grupo Fantasma. This 7" is their debut on Wonderwheel Recordings and features more of the same hazy, psychedelic Latin funk that they've become known for, featuring Chico Mann providing vocals on the "A" side, alongsided Quantic on guitar and accordian. Quantic is also featured on the "B" side instrumental cut "Not Yet"
