Unified by dub's loose sense of space and deep sub-frequencies, CHLLNGR's unique amalgam of soul, pop, stripped-down beats, and decaying atmospheres has earned the Copenhagen-based artist, Steven Jess Borth II, adulation from press and peers alike. The nocturnal, murky worlds of his debut 'Haven' and it's follow-up EP 'Datter' alluded to subtle pop possibilities featuring Borth's soft-touch vocals woven into structures indebted to modern R&B's sleek minimalism and the techniques set forth by dub reggae's chief architects King Tubby, Scientist, among countless other legends. An artist who shines in the collaborative process, Borth's acclaimed debut 'Haven' featured Coco (of Quadron), Aku (of Dragons of Zynth), Teachers, and he has been a consistent cohort of South African MC Spoek Mathambo partnering in composing, production, and touring as Mathambo's multi-instrumentalist secret weapon over the past few years.
Over the past year, CHLLNGR has been working on his next full-length for the LA-based Time No Place label. Recorded at the newly built Red Bull Studios in Copenhagen, Borth took a different approach by recording most of the new record at a legitimate studio as opposed to his previous DIY methods. Again, a collaborative effort: the new album features contributions from up-and-coming vocalist JOSIAHWISE IS THE SERPENTWITHFEET, Grace Hall of Skin Town, Doctor Echo, Dusty Brown, Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild (When Saints Go Machine, Cancer) and the UK based artist DELS. Keeping much CHLLNGR's signature moody starkness, his forthcoming LP strives for brave eclecticism, digging deeper into his future-minded soul music explorations.

James Blake heads up the debut release on 1-800-DINOSAUR with two tracks showcasing the new labels forward facing manifesto. 1-800-DINOSAUR is the brainchild of both Dan Foat, the man behind R&S Records revival and Blake who also run the 1-800-DINOSAUR club night together with Airhead, Klaus and Mr Assister at Plastic People in London.

The release leads with metallic house banger 'Voyeur Dub', tried and tested to devastating effect on the Plastic People dance floor in 2012, leading to a shortened arrangement of the song finding its way onto Blake's critically acclaimed sophomore album 'Overgrown'. On the flip 'And Holy Ghost' is a beat-less sojourn into the future soundscapes of electronic music and a deft reminder of Blake's ability at traversing genres with ease.

Vier der acht Stücke wurden mit dem kanadischen Sänger Chris Cummings aka Marker Starling (formerly Mantler) eingespielt, dessen fragile Stimme in manchen Momenten an den großen Kommunisten und Musiker Robert Wyatt erinnert. - Streetlife' ist ein heterogenes Album geworden, das von melodischem Pianodisco (- Chain Of Command') über vertrippte Soundscapes (- Hearts Fear') und pompösen Softrock (- Try Though We Might') in eine bessere Welt führt, könnte man sagen, klänge das nicht so pathetisch. Denn VON SPAR sind nicht pathetisch, sondern hellwach. Das ist kein Eskapismus, sondern life in the streets. And that's how they live it.

Two of the UK's finest underground labels join forces and share their talent on this killer 12. From IIB we have Coyote's Sin Distracciounes, an upbeat sunkissed dancefloor meditation featuring the blissed out Flamenco guitar of long time collaborator Saro Tribastone. Futurboogie's Christophe remixes and chops up the guitar and adds some gypsymenesque organ stabs and layers of keys. Futureboogie's Felix Dickinson and Jamie Read drop the funky guitar heavy Restless People. Sublime chugging beats and a beautiful vocal refrain imploring 'Slow It Down' creating a laidback house monster. IIB's Max Essa puts his remix right in the middle of the dancefloor with straight up house vibes and extra percussion.

You may know JAW by name, but most will know him by voice. As the frontman of French house wildcards dOP and their indiepop sideproject, Les Fils du Calvaire, JAW has blossomed into one of the most distinctive performers in a scene where few dare to cross the barrier of the DJ booth. From bedroom setups to street recordings to highend studios, spanning melancholic folk, electro pop and apocalyptic R&B, 'Midtown' is the culmination of years JAW has spent connecting with likeminded artists, challenging himself to use his unmistakable voice in different ways. Placing the emphasis on having fun, whether the music be dark and obtuse, or upbeat and flamboyant, the result is nineteen different recording spaces with nineteen different textures, ensuring that no two moments on 'Midtown' feel the same. o As the vocalist for madcap house wayfarers dOP, Jonathan Illel has seduced the hearts and minds of dancefloor dwellers, holding them captive with his voice as he douses them in vodka.

Asked to describe his music to a new listener one might falter. While it's true that there is a very specific sound at the core of his music, it is the fluid nature of Deetron's work that defines him as an artist. Yet there is one word that can be used to sum up this dynamic musical mind and the polymorphic sounds that he has mastered - Maverick.

His second album "Music Over Matter", which was released on Music Man end of last year, finds Deetron in a unique, transitional phase. The vocal element of his music coming to the fore, with his 2nd album he proves that there is no substitute for substance and skill, putting music firmly back in the frame is the message, and how poignant to today's tumultuous industry!

After nearly a year has passed by - and kitted out with heavy hitting drum timbres, hook laden nuances and a textured palette of unique effects - South African born Esa makes a welcome return to the Burek family fold with another EP that skirts the boundaries of the dance-floor and soaks up the sights and sounds of those on the peripheral edges. A family that's consisted of many strays and deviants being welcomed in, Esa's EP is another mellifluous fit for the Croatian based house label that prides itself on beats that drip with greasy flavour and a fine follow on from his killer 'Serenity In a Forbidden Place' EP for the label in July of 2013. EP opener 'Time Of Planck' is the first collaborative production between Esa and classically trained multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Bennett. Laying vocals atop deconstructed, radiating cosmic transmissions, Esa cautiously adds the reverberating oscillators to maximum effect over a washed out, hazy groove, while Bennett also provides tinkling key stabs. Paradox Jaz (Recover) plays further on the synth tapestries and relaxing organ overtones, following a traditional Detroit journey before gradually stepping up-tempo for a cantering, melody-led approach to the intricate details of a modern electronic jazz record. Flip over for B-side opener Placid Universe, a light and dainty continuation of the previous side's atmospheric, worldly undertones before clicking snares and bulbous, low-end bass lines and acid squelches force their way into earshot. Drama Queen - perhaps the most schizophrenically visualized out of the collection

Love Fever, the infamous and erogenous East London discotheque and record label returns with some late night works in the form of Ron Jason and Kim Ann Foxman's 'The Dream Project EP'. After Ron Jason's Paradise Garage evoking and much played "Paradise Lost" (with Love Fever regular Larry Heard remixes) caught the ear of label bosses Alex & Andy last year with its depth and sincerity, Ron was tracked down, discovered as Italy's enigma Simoncino and connected with Brooklyn's fly girl and modernist diva Kim Ann Foxman to explore possibilities in house. The outcome is a raw 5 track EP drawing inspiration from classic Chicago house with the Master C&J evoking "M", a Blue Jeans interpretation on "R" and a melodic yet somber lead Track "E" where you find a modern bassline chugging below analogue synth lines and Kim's individualistic approach to vocals. The record pays hommage to an era in house lost, deepest Chicago and New York with a not so subtle dedication to long time friend of Ron's, Dream 2 Science. With water droplets and sexual intensity harking back to early 90s masterpiece 'My Love Turns To Liquid' on "A".

Die 4 U is the Murk follow-up to last year's underground Anthem Amame, which was released by Murk under the Intruder Moniker. Murk consists of Miami based producers Oscar G and Falcon. They are responsible for some of the biggest house records of all time, including Fired Up released under the Funky Green Dogs moniker.

'I am OK', reads the title of the new album by the Berlin-based producer, DJ and label-owner Oliver Koletzki. The heading0's ambiguity is, of course, deliberate: there's a deeper meaning hidden behind the humorous facade that is Chrisse Kunst's hand-drawn cover, which depicts an unadorned thirteen-year-old Oliver sporting nerd glasses and a striped jumper: I am Oliver Koletzki, raw and authentic. Because musically, on his fifth studio album, Oliver Koletzki looks towards the unaffected freshness of back in the day, and thus, consciously returns to his roots. 'I am OK' - Oliver Koletzki says modestly. In 2014, after 26 years as a musician, he clearly achieved what he set out to do. And his fifth album serves as testimony. Hypothetically he could have a bit of a rest. The energy of each new track here does emphasise, however, that he won't retire any time soon: Oliver Koletzki is just getting started.

First from Dasha on Expansion is a from the heart commentary Cleverly, which was written and produced at the second meeting with Area Boy's producer OsikiOjo and blessed with a response from Paul Johnson.

Fanatico is a new project of Mathias Schaffhäuser and vocalist Jorge Socarrás (Macro Music / Compost Rec.) from New York. "Tessio" is the first single of a collection of tracks which will be released as an album later this year. Composed and released by Luomo (a.k.a. Vladislav Delay) in 2000 on Force Tracks, this song was always one of Schaffhäuser's favourite minimal house tunes. The track comes with fabulous remixes by KINK (Ovum Rec., Rush Hour, Modelisme) and M.in feat. Chriss Vogt (Yellow Tail, Desolat, Get Physical, Mothership).

To say the arrival of the Swedish trio 'Monitor 66' onto the scene has been explosive would be a pretty big understatement. House of Disco Records is proud to have taken them under their proverbial wing for the labels first single release, the swede's ethereal anthem 'Triscuits'. This track made huge waves when first shown to the world gaining strong support from 'The Magician' and a whole host of others at the top of their game. The track itself floats somewhere between the dance floor and the cumulous clouds above, lulling you to sleep while at the same time invigorating you. Grounded by a vocal sample from an old Keith Sweat track 'Triscuits' glides on a bed of warm synths and vocal stabs that will haunt your memory and a breakdown that reminds you of the timeless nature of just plain old good music. House of Disco Records have recruited some serious talent to re-interpret and remix this one. New German outsider house label TOY TONICS comes up with a superfat SLOW HOUSE 6 track EP from mighty producer DJ STEEF.
It's not Paris. This here comes from Marseille. A city that used to be big in Hip Hop - and now has a huge funky house scene. Many people there translated the boom of Hip Hop and Soul into fat, funky, slow house. DJ STEEF is one of the main guys. His releases on Magic Wand, Editorial, ZE, Superbreak and DiscoDat he has been played regularly by DJ's like James Murphy, Weatherall and Tim Sweeney.

Crafty 1990s Deep House rooted cut in two versions

Toronto trio My Favorite Robot team up with the ever excellent No.19 Music for a brand new single featuring remixes from Juan Maclean & Louie Fresco...
My Favorite Robot has come along way over the past four years. Launched in early 2009, originally as a duo and with a fledgling label in tow, the My Favorite Robot bandwagon has grown month on month, seeing the expanded line up of Jared Simms, James Teej & Voytek Korab become an international force to be reckoned with and their label become a hotbed for world class electronic music.

'Looking for Frost' sees the Robot trio journey into blissed out, emotive territory with a record that fuses stirring pads, ethereal vocals and a catchy arp loop with subtle drum programming and deep bass, leading to a pulsing rhythm section as the kick drum drops almost two thirds of the way in. The incanted 'Sometimes I get the feeling something ain't right' vocal is a haunting yet memorable line that help makes this one of, if not the most, impressive My Favorite Robot song to date.

The original track is backed up with two sterling remixes on the vinyl package, the first delivered by US production heavyweight and DFA man Juan Maclean who turns in a delightfully hypnotic slice of leftfield house that pulls the original elements into a swirling, dark edged dancefloor destroyer. This is followed by a remix from one of Mexico's rising stars, Louie Fresco who twists 'Looking for Frost' into a deep and acidic cut that swirls and bubbles with its heavy FX and deft understated piano hits. The digital package also provides an exclusive dub mix from Mr Fresco that strips back the vocals and lets the instrumentation take centre stage with a wonderfully bright and intense version.

New Jack City seem to understand exactly what it is we're looking for and have crafted three splendid tracks purely for the enjoyment of others. To top it all off we've enlisted signor Gianni Siravo a.k.a. Washerman for a remix which captures the spirit of Tomorrow Is Now, Kid!

With the homespun warmth of his album still keeping us toasty as the temperature drops in the Northern hemisphere, Dave Aju offers up two choice cuts from Heirlooms to receive surgical treatment at the hands of dear friends and respected practitioners in our beloved corner of electronic music. The divine boogie-fuelled electro pop of 'Caller#7' stood out as one of the most flamboyant and earsnagging tracks on the album, so who better to entrust the remix to than Seth Troxler and Subb-an Seth of course is a long-time partner of Circus Company, stretching back to 2008 when he first recorded an EP for us with Patrick Russell. Subb-an may be a new cat to us, but there's no denying the impact he has made with his releases for some of the strongest tech house labels around. In the hands of this formidable duo, 'Caller#7' gets sharpened and honed into a peak-time floor-filler. The vocals from Dave and dOP's Jaw and that inimitable bassline remain intact, with the focus switched to boosting the rhythms that propel this party-starter while a disgruntled caller drops in on Radio KAJU to speak her mind like a true soul sister should. On the flipside, we take great pleasure in inviting the maverick Swede Axel Boman to work his magic on 'Away Away'. After exploding onto the scene in a flurry of hedonistic imagination and cheeky originality, Axel has charmed all that come before him with his releases and his Studio Barnhus label. He treats us to a glorious, soaring version of Dave's track that shuns shortening days and worsening weather, and instead places you at the top of a mountain as the sun rises in a cloudless sky, gently building but never peaking in a truly life-affirming concoction of house music for the heart.

The second of two collaborative 12inch releases by Sonar Kollektiv and Especial Records (the label run by Yoshihiro Okino from Kyoto Jazz Massive) showcases the aspiring talent of DJ Kawasaki. Since his debut 'Beautiful' from 2006 he became a staple and a new ambassador for Japanese club and dance music. It's been already five years since his first remix for Sonar Kollektiv ('Dark Soldier' by Roland Appel in 2009) and you can surely hear how his production skills have even sharpened over the time.

Such is the importance of Russell's contribution to the modern music scene that many consider his work to be untouchable but several modern day producers have carefully picked out key elements of his songs whilst recording entirely new and up to date soundtracks. Yam Who, Faze Action, singer Mary Moore, NYC's Pocketknife have worked hard to create entirely new instruments and vocals with additional remix work coming from Radio Slave.

In addition Peter Gordon who worked with Arthur Russell on many of the original releases has collaborated; adding his musicianship to the newly created cover of 'Go Bang'. Further collaborations from Arthur's friends and musicians, Steven Hall & Joyce Kirby, also provide a new version of 'Lucky Cloud' which is produced by NYC's Pocketknife.
