Toolroom presents 'Toolroom Records Miami 2012', the essential soundtrack to the biggest highlight in the dance music calendar, the Miami Winter Music Conference, with a selection unleashed in 2 vinyl samplers.

For those of you still playing catch-up, the UK has a new star of electronic music... and yes; he's the one in the dinosaur suit and the headdress.

Van She MKII are here, with the first single and title track from their forthcoming record, Idea Of Happiness.
So uplifting it's practically levitational, Idea Of Happiness is Van She's most focused, joyous musical excursion to date. An album stirred by sunbaked travels and fleeting truths, and shaken with the sands of time, Idea Of Happiness was recorded, engineered and produced by the band themselves in Kings Cross, Sydney.
Their self-sufficient approach to the record allowed them the time and space to not only fine tune to the nth degree each cymbal splash and crashing wave sample, but also left them free to give ideas the time and space to hang loose. They may have walked a slow, deliberate path to realising album #2 but the result is all the better for it.
The record was mixed in Los Angeles with Tony Hoffer, the perfect man for the job with a resume that includes work with Beck, Air, Phoenix and M83.
The Idea Of Happiness 12 comes with remixes courtesy of Hervé, Sebastian and What So Not.

ollowing their recent track on Redux's Pick & Mix Vol. 1, the disco legend that is Pete Herbert and Melbourne's Golden Fleece further cement their collaboration with this full EP on Space Walker Records. "Ivory Waves" is a 90s influenced cut of uplifting piano-driven Balearic house, complete with lush cosmic flourishes, whilst "The Bells Of Hackney" is a more low-slung, but no less powerful production. Initially combining a snaking live bassline and spaced-out arpeggios, the track builds to a crescendo as heavily flanged piano and tights guitar licks come into play. The B-Side meanwhile serves up two remixes of "Ivory Waves"; Lithuania's Downtown Party Network recompose it as an even more-good time anthem (if such a thing is possible) with their trademark melodic charm, while Slovenia's Sare Havlicek takes the track into deeper territory bringing the thick bassline teasing the melody with dubbed out stabs, slowly bringing the huge piano line in before dropping it with force, taking the anthem potential of the original and running with it.

Jon Convex kicks off his exciting new Convex Industries imprint with two of his own soloproductions 'Bump and Grind' & 'Closer'. As one half of Instra:mental there's no surprise with the sonic qualities of these tracks, an amalgamation of raw electronica/techno and bass music, or as he likes to call it, EPM (Electronic Party Music).Both tracks feature Convex's trademark pitched vocals, thumping kicks, rounded basslines and twisted glitch edits fit for any dancefloor, a must for any DJ that wants to get a crowd moving.

After the epic disco rock of Antibodies, here comes Poni Hoax' second extract from their much anticipated new album 'Images Of Sigrid'. Although the original song is already massively anthemic, JOAKIM managed to turn it into a real club monster aimed at destroying any dancefloor. One of his heaviest remixes for sure. On a different tip but still highly danceable, ALTER EGO (who recently released their new album with the hit Why Not~) delivers a mental remix full of freaky vocoders that keeps pushing the pressure on and on for 6 minutes before unleashing the beast. Also a proper dancefloor smasher.

'Around' might come as a surprise for many club-heads as Noir usually
produces club tracks and is now moving into the 'electronic songs' area.
This is the 1st single taken from a full-length album coming in 2012 incl.
some of the world's most talented singer/songwriters.
On 'Around' Danish Noir teamed up with Malaysian Haze for this
heartfelt piece of music. Haze might be best known for his work with
people like Sandy Rivera, Nic Fanciulli and Danism and he proves his
talent for creating emotional and melancholic vocals.
Solomun is a genius when it comes to sexy club music. This remix is
already rated one of his best to date and perfectly refletcs his flair for the
sub-heavy downtempo funk and club-feel. Expect the cool underground
clubs to have the Solomun remixes running for the entire summer season 2011.

Tek Box are London based, Swedish producers Ivan Berggren & Carl Lof.

'Express' sounds like a lost Bobby O dub mix given the once over my Mylo - all Moroder bass and space-age synth lines. Perfect then that it's finding a home in the man from Skye's DJ sets.

'Move ur hips' is a classic modern electronic boogie record. The Idjut Boys loved it's future disco sound so much, they delivered their own edit.

For the uninitiated, Idjut Boys have been creating sparkling moments in left-field dance music for well over a decade. Their U-Star & Discfuntion labels paved the way for the current nu-disco scene while their compilations on Tirk, Glasgow Underground & Nuphonic are essential ingredients in any record collection. Currently their Cottage imprint delivers some of the finest uptempo dubbing around and their edit imprint (Noid) continues to find killer nuggets of genius from long lost vinyl.

permanent vacation ) or his real name ( Kompakt, L.I.E.S. ) STEVE MOORE has an extensive record of worshiping wholeheartly and toying around with his musical obsessions: glam and prog rock, early spacey synth pop and their manifestations in tv themes and b-movie soundtracks, mainly of the italian kind. Under his new guise LOVELOCK he plunges fearlessly and with verve into the pastel shining, glossy world of Italo Disco and Synth Pop and there couldnt be a niftier choice to remix the first 12" of his upcoming album on Internasjonal than MORGAN GEIST who has been championing disco of the more synth-driven italian variety long before it became the fashionable thing to do again

Thirteen might be an unlucky number for some but for Culprit it is quite the opposite. The label's thirteenth release 'Candy' from Lee Curtiss, is it's biggest and most unashamedly dance floor oriented release to date. A watershed record for the young label, 'Candy' is the special type of track that reaches out and grabs you immediately upon hearing it

Another critical release, following the deadly DJs Pareja single of last month. Perfectly timed and cued after the recent Raudive long-player on Stefan Goldmann's Macro label. Raudive is Oliver Ho's darker, more 'new-wave' operative, and these latest productions have caught the attention of the folks at History Clock - and it's a perfect alliance. The 'Levels EP' is a debased mix of sleazy, after-hours acid-dancehall with the icy cool of minimal, machine-music dynamics. Essential, in a word.

Needwant get set to welcome you to the world of Parisian super duo, The Mekanism, with a debut EP that will make you fall in love with their spin on disco infused house music. Effortlessly smooth and divinely deep, they capture an advanced and modern sound that will blow you away. The EP features three original tracks plus a remix from Needwant favourite, Mario Basanov who continues to gain notoriety as both an individual artists and within his Mario & Vidis project.

Title track 'Can't Believe' oozes with a funky yet deep groove and rhythm. The empowering melody and warm keys captivate the mind, as the murky vocal takes us deep. Lithuanian producer Mario Basanov steps in for remix duty, with a housier, deeper dance floor spin on the original 'Can't Believe'. Grumbling stabs and rounded melodic keys drive this remix with impressive results.

Next up 'Missing Love' is highly infectious with its forceful bass, fluid warm keys, steady claps and captivating, deep vocal, which will engulf the dance floor. 'Your Shade' is the third of the original tracks on offer from the talented duo. Using their own vocal for a French twist, they prove their artistic worth for this smooth deep cut.

It's a fine debut from a French paring that only met in the summer of 2011. But their combined rich musical history has produced another EP of solid original material for the Needwant camp that treads the line between electronic house and disco music.

Feted kosmische synthesizer wizards from Cleveland OH , Emeralds, have never had any of their music remixed before. Let alone having the title track from their acclaimed 2010 album reworked (twice) into a floor-filling behemoth by Daphni (aka Dan Snaith aka Caribou). "We toured together in 2010 and since then I've always wanted to play their music in my DJ sets. So I did my own version of this track", says Snaith. "It's one of those tracks that whenever I play it I can feel the energy in the room lift." Luckily Emeralds were equally enthusiastic and so this unlikely hybrid see the light of day. ...or rather the dark inside of a club#

Inner Drive is a new electro-progressive-acoustic-house project of Dash feat. Mina L. from Belgrade (Serbia). In co-operation with a guitarist, live drums they produced their debut album 'Music Fetish' in ReSound Studio. The studio is located in Voždovac, a part of Belgrade where you can find the Vi Två Records office too. 'Music Fetish' contains 10 original tracks + a bonus remix of Liquid Sound´s 'Cloud Hunter'.

There are several ways to try to sum up the history of MOTOR. Chronologically listing all of the releases, significant events, enthusiastic critics and superlative comments, awards won and goals achieved in a comparatively short period of time would be one of them. It would certainly be a quite impressive list, but it would not fully pay justice to the phenomenon of MOTOR, as this phenomenon is clearly more than just the sum of its parts. Sometimes less is more, and that is why this brief history more than anything focuses on some of the milestones in the rise of MOTOR, as well as some seemingly random anecdotes, which at the end of the day impressively stand for the very essence of this extraordinary act.

Ahead of the UK release of their critically acclaimed album Lokemo, Belgian duo Arsenal kick things off with new single 'Melvin', featuring guest vocals from Shawn Smith of Seattle's Pigeonhed.

After a two-year break, Detroit producer and wayward star-child Jimmy Edgar debuts on Scuba's Hotflush Recordings armed with an album full of futuristic sleaze. Known for his unique take on jacking house and electro funk, he's recently been splitting his time between the US and Berlin, exploring transcendental meditation and the boundaries of the non-physical. This offering is an extension of that journey, bringing eleven tracks of erotic robo-pop to the table. Titled Majenta, this LP is a departure from his past sound, marking a shift in his own ever-expanding consciousness, as well as another exciting chapter of his musical career.Each track is an aural manifesto, giving well-deserved nods to his varied musical influences. Close encounters with Detroit legends Derrick May and Juan Atkins, Jimmy's 2004 signing to Warp Records, and his early exposure to Kraftwerk have all acted as lynchpins in the cultivation of his sound. With a number of releases on Glasstable, Semantica, Nonplus and long player releases on both Warp and !K7, Majenta reflects Jimmy's evolution as both artist and child of the cosmos.According to Edgar, the making of the album was steeped in countless synchronicities, continuously reminding him he was on the right path. In contrast with his last LP, XXX, for !K7, which took five years to make, Majenta is more raw, more spontaneous and in his words, 'more futuristic ... than my other music, which played a lot with retro, especially R&B.' From the outset, Jimmy's flexing his Kraftwerkian muscle, with vocoder complimenting his own unadulterated voice and '80s synthlines bubbling away alongside jazz-funk keyboard riffs. From the raunchy and sexually explicit 'Take Me on a Sex Drive' ('windows down, legs up high') to the low-lit, hypnotic feel of 'Attempt to Make it Last', to the UK garage rhythms of 'Let Yrself Be', to the Kiss-era Prince vibe of 'I Need Your Control', it's clear that the postmodern is Edgar's domain. The Frampton-esque vocals of 'In Deep' close out the LP and further cement his enviable place in the intergalactic community.Spring/Summer 2012 will see Jimmy playing a number of live shows across Europe and the US in support of Majenta (including major festivals such as Glade, UK), as well as his continued exploration into the world of LEDs and synchronized light technology.

'The Noise in the Sky' is the highly anticipated follow up to KBD's highly praised '09' debut 'The B Suite', and sees him delving deep into his 70s influences.. While on tour, he travelled by day listening to 70s jazz and played by night in electro clubs and festivals. While in Detroit to play at the DEMF festival, he visited the historic Motown studios in Hitsville USA and realized the duality of his musical position: influenced on one side by 70s sounds and being part of the Ed Banger label, in his studio, vintage Moogs and Rhodes sharing the space with a computer and plug-ins: he questioned himself on this duality and endeavoured to find a musical answer.
