Tom Flynn - EFUNK03

House Of EFUNK Records returns with a vinyl only offering of floor focused club jams from Tom Flynn, the UK based producer who’s seen outings on Planet E, Vega Records & Dirtybird to name a few.

Highlighted by “Fifty Ways”, a polyrhythmic feast for the ears featuring Grammy nominated NYC legend Luisito Quintero on percussion... The original rides a pulsating afro-feel, while the deep mix envelops us in tense foggy atmospheres fit for those late night / early mornings. Detroit heavyweight, Shigeto supplies a remix that pumps the tempo and injects that Motor City jazz he’s so known for.

Rounding it out... "Catching Stars" brings us down gently, capturing the coastal breeze & warmth of a late summer day... Touché concludes the story, riding a bubbling bassline & playful melodies, it’s a track perfectly fit for the sunrise.

Skream & Tom Demac - EMF (Inc. Jamie Jones Remix)

For the next release on the unrelenting and genre pushing Hot Creations imprint, musical masterminds Skream and Tom Demac join forces for the first time to deliver the electro bomb EMF. Label head Jamie Jones offers yet another standout rework to add to his ever-expanding catalogue.

Breakbeat rhythms and a pounding bass kick off proceedings as the track unfurls with dramatic synths that culminate in an epic build up, dropping into the intricate electro melody. Jamie provides a mammoth rework as he steers the original into the realm of house. Holding onto the core elements, he adds his signature stamp with an unmistakable bassline.

As one of the UK’s best-loved selectors Skream’s early origins can be found in dubstep before he made a transition into disco, house and techno. In November 2013 he unveiled his new label, Of Unsound Mind and has been signed to a variety of labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Objectivity and We Are The Brave. He’s also produced a constant flow of remixes for labels like Warner, FFRR, Sony, Hot Creations, Watergate and VIVa. Parallel to these pivotal releases he also showcased his eclectic tastes at his Skreamizm parties across the UK and the rest of the world.

North Wales native Tom Demac first came to attention via his own Electronique Audio imprint in 2004 but it’s his affiliation with Hypercolour that really kick started his ascension to being a global force within the house and techno scene. His passion for performing live has seen him play from DC10 to Freerotation. He’s also released on a number of labels including a collaboration with Duncan Jones of Silverclub and an EP on Kompakt with Real Lies.

Tiga - Eye Luv U

12inchTURBO188

20.03.2017

Tiga is back to tell you what you've always needed to hear with his new single "Eye Luv U". Co-produced by one half of Paranoid London, the new single harnesses all the pure source energy of what enlightened club-goers often describe as their favourite emotion. "The title came to me while I was playing a pyramid that had been converted into a multi-purpose event space", says the Canadian DJ/Producer. The hieroglyphics over what is now the coat check made me imagine a world in which pictures could mean words and words could mean anything. The thing about wordplay is that it's fascinating to conceive of different realities informed by different systems of meaning, and how each reality would invariably bend to vault me to the pinnacle of all possible worlds. It's humbling, really.

Black Meteoric Star - Disco

Voluminous Arts happily announces its second official release, a 12 track digital album and accompanying 3xLP limited 3 color vinyl edition entitled “Disco” by Gavilán Rayna Russom’s elusive alias Black Meteoric Star.

This is not a Disco record. The title deliberately troubles the music biz’s incessant tendency to hierarchize genre classification over the experience of listening. If you must categorize these mutant sounds think of them as a proposed alternate score for those long, caffeinated sessions in Abby Sciuto’s forensics lab, the soundtrack to a heavy workout in the Westchester Danger Room or perhaps the musical accompaniment to deep body investigations of your own ancestral memories. What this record really is, and why it’s called “Disco” has to do with the layering of time and life energy present in the spaces where we have traditionally danced to music which are sometimes called Discos. From the pounding urgency of “Muscle Machine” through the unbridled night vision romp that is “Fluid Feline Forms” and the shimmering investigations of “Whispers Between Worlds” to the extended lazer pointer focus of “I’m Unmelting” this record lays out a broad slab of practice-based research into the ghosts we connect with on the dance floor. Whether it be through partying in former industrial buildings, contested spaces of labor built on lands violently appropriated from indigenous people, uncomfortably inhabiting vacuums in queerness left by the AIDS epidemic, lifting lineages through sampling, or the relentless cycle of whitening that accompanies dance music’s march into the market, our experiences in the Disco have been permeated by the spectral and the haunted.

Through rhythm and frequency, organized over time, this music blurs the veil between the living and the dead inviting those who move to it to connect with experiences beyond that false binary. What you have here is another fantastic Black Meteoric Star record, as always made without multitracking or overdubbing, recorded directly from single live takes. It is is utterly consistent with all that name has come to mean, but on “Disco” Black Meteoric Star’s vision has been allowed to expand into an almost mythologically epic space. Ancestral time works differently. Settle in and absorb the frequencies. As the closing track suggests, the virtual Disco these sounds evoke is for “Freaks Only”.

EARTH TRAX / NEWBORN JR / PRIVATE PRESS - ZIEMIA 002

The label ZIEMIA (Polish for EARTH) is centred around a growing group of friends from Poland. Administered by Bartosz Kruczyñski (Earth Trax), Adam Brocki and Jan Wójcicki (Private Press), it is a natural extension of a studio in the heart of Warsaw, where the majority of their music is being created. Ambient sounds and club vibes make the foundation layers of this collaboration, and you can see this theme evolving in some of their first releases on labels such as Growing Bin, Into The Light, Shall Not Fade, Indigo Aera, Phonica Records and Dopeness Galore. ZIEMIA's focus positions itself between club music and ethereal with an Eastern European background.

The second release captures different shades of club environment, from the straight-forward, rough DJ tool by Earth Trax and Newborn Jr. (A1) to deeper and more ethereal dub oriented grooves of Private Press (A2, B1). The last cut on the EP is an after hour downtempo anthem (Earth Trax and Newborn Jr. again), with uplifting pads and chilling leads layered over deep TR-808 drums.

18.06.2020

Various Artists: Lisene, Hartta, Sourpuss & Interplanetary Criminal

"Banoffee Pies Records" drop the 13th release in the original series. This VA aptly entitled "Common Ground" is a crossover of influences from 4 artists with a selection of tracks all above 150 bpm from producers of a similar generation giving a nod to their youth and early musical journeys, largely inspired by Drum & Bass and Jungle raves across the UK.

The release divided in two with a Dark A side and Light B side offering parallel moods of depth and liquidity. The opening track "Class Of '92" from Lisene, one half of the Space Cadets duo, with previous releases on Seven Hill Records and an EP lined up with Planet Euphorique later this year, pushes complex drum patterns and pulsing synths evolving in energy levels throughout. The A2 from Bristol based Hartta offers a more spooked out bass heavy cut with "Hauntology", ready for powerful system rumbling.

The B side begins with title track "Common Ground", an ode to dusted jungle and liquid drum & bass from Leeds based Sourpuss, known for running the Stretchy Dance Supply parties, - this track serving hedonistic eye rolling gurner euphoria, sounding more like an og 90's prodcution. The last track on the disc "Vapour" comes from Manchester's Interplanetary Criminal. With his UKG EP "Move Tools" on BP010 landing on the label and many dance floors at the end of 2019, this nostalgic drum scattered jungle cut stylishly closes off the compilation. Ltd. Press. BP x

PATRICIA - MAXYBOY

Patricia

MAXYBOY

2x12inchGILP358
Ghostly International
08.07.2020

For over a decade, Max Ravitz has been obsessively working in his home studio, crafting electronic music under various guises. His primary solo project, Patricia, has been a mainstay in New York's DIY electronic music scene, with releases on labels such as Opal Tapes, Nona, and Ghoslty's Spectral Sound imprint. Over the course of 10 songs, Maxyboy presents a more varied stylistic approach than past Patricia releases, shifting away from some of the `lo-fi' sounds he's known for. With clear nods to electro, acid, IDM, and techno, Maxyboy puts on display Ravitz's eclectic range of influence-- from collaborators and contemporaries, to classic innovators alike. Titled after his family's childhood nickname for him, Maxyboy serves as a window to Ravitz' range of musical interests. "Myokymia," "Downlink" and "Crushed Velvet" highlight Ravitz's penchant for intricate drum programming; while album closer Ctenophora hints towards his drumless sensibilities. Ranging from driving and somatic ("Dripping," "Turtle Funk"), to ambient ("Julia Set") to acid ("Dew Point," "Dr. Oetker's Ristorante"), each song carries an evocative, questioning quality-- something any listener can enhance for themselves by closing the eyes and letting the sounds course through.

Bochum Welt - Seafire Remixes

The union of Bochum Welt and Central Processing Unit makes perfect sense. Here we have a principal figure from IDM's 90s heyday linking up with an imprint that has brought the sound and spirit of Rephlex Records into the modern day. As such, it is unsurprising that Bochum Welt's label debut, the 2019 LP Seafire, has quickly become one of the most vaunted releases in CPU's extensive catalogue.

A few months on from the release of Seafire, the Italian artist returns to the Sheffield imprint with Seafire Remixes. As well as a pair of new versions from Bochum Welt himself, this five-track set also contains a trio of tunes which rewire Seafire originals - one remix apiece from EOD, James Zabiela and Telefon Tel Aviv.

One can think of Seafire Remixes as chronicling a night at the club in reverse - at least until its final track. 'More Light (Radio Edit)' and 'G1 (Ambient Mix)', the two Bochum Welt originals which kick things off, maintain the heady glow of Seafire. Both are lovely, wistful lilts, full of gently-pattering drums, plumbingpluming synths and keening keyboards. They recall the most cerebral end of Boards Of Canada's output, flushing you with the warm afterglow of the party as you begin to bed down, dawn just starting to break through the window.

If these opening jams represent the night drawing to a close, the mid-section of Seafire Remixes rewinds to the thrill of the dance. bbbbbb recors mischief-maker EOD and British dancefloor veteran James Zabiela both tackle 'More Light' on their remixes, and each producer makes the same decision to gee-up the track with drums. The former's version plumbs a load of IDM-techno beats into the floaty-light original to give it a buoyant positivity not dissimilar to Andrew Weatherall (RIP). Meanwhile Zabiela's snapping broken-beat electro rework is pure peaktime euphoria, with 303s squirming gleefully under clattering drums and a needle-gun bassline. It's a distillation in sound of some of the very best aspects of dance music culture - rhythm, communality, utopia.

Telefon Tel Aviv's reworking of Seafire's 'Color Me' ends this otherwise-uplifting EP on a more pensive note. Unsurprisingly given the pedigree of the artist, Telefon Tel Aviv's 'Color Me' flip is the most leftfield production on Seafire Remixes. Eerie, spectral synths clatter and churn away atop skittering drums which have a ghost of trap about them. This heady fug sounds very much like the morning after the night before, with Gold Panda, Teebs and TOKiMONSTA all recalled.

Covering a large amount of sonic terrain - electro, IDM, techno, abstract hip-hop, ambient music - Bochum Welt's Seafire Remixes EP is simultaneously one of the most stylistically diverse and most aesthetically unified Central Processing Unit releases to date.

Spaceport

exclFFRLIMITED023
Fantastic Friends
16.06.2020

It's been almost three years since our good friend Giorgio Maulini made his first appearance on the label. Since then, it's only been upwards and onwards for the young talent, between founding his own imprint and events label "Underground Town" and becoming a Modernity resident, to name only a few achievements.

Spaceport is a driving yet fairly stripped-back piece of music, somewhere in between tech-house and micro-house. The omnipresent synth riff is a backbone to a solid groove just right for buillding up towards middle of the night intensity. Atmospheric synth chords bring a delicate third dimension to the track for an overal well-balanced work, nice job!

On the remix, we couldn't be happier to welcome an artist who has been making serious waves with a very specific, easy to recognise signature-style: Mr Silat Beksi. The feel is slightly nastier and dirtier than the original and the energy is taken down a notch. Listen as your brain is teased and seduced by the female vocal FX braking the monotony and lovely delicate keyboard patterns contribute to a rich clever arrangement.

Mathias Kaden - Trust The Matrix EP

Santé's AVOTRE returns for its 58th release with 'Trust the Matrix' EP, two tracks from Mathias Kaden and a remix courtesy of Joey Daniel.

Hailing from Berlin, Kaden has released on an array of respected imprints, notably Freude am Tanzen and Vakant which shaped his early production and DJ career. Following a busy schedule of international touring, the Cocoon Ibiza resident now steps up for his AVOTRE debut.

Lead track 'Matrix' jumps immediately into peak-time pace, a winding bassline laced with jacking and hypnotic melodies. 'Trust' follows suite and is an unassuming dancefloor destroyer which is already a staple of label boss Santé's sets.

Rotterdam's Joey Daniel delivers a robust reinterpretation of 'Matrix' that rounds off this weighty package. Daniel's been a mainstay of the Holland house scene having carved his career via his renowned 300MPH parties.

Sleep D - Smoke Haze

Off the back of their debut LP, Sleep D continue to thrive and refine their production skills, this time with the 10th EP on Planet Euphorique, “Smoke Haze”w. 2020 - the future is now, the 4 tracks each offer a glimpse into a distant yet looming world of dark, driving atmospherics; outer worldly electronics perfect for club use. Sticking true to their deep, cosmic constructions, the Australian duo feel to have fully come into their sound, ever progressive and evocative, whilst never forgetting the filth, jack and grit that drives us to move.

A1 “Freezer”, wastes no time, diving in with militant metallic flair, elevated above ground through the syncopated stabs and swirling synthesis. Continuing to build throughout the track with delicate, imperative percussion and rolling delays, bubbling analog voices slipping in and out of consciousness to contrast the 4/4 steadiness. “Green Pond”, the A2 takes off from the opener, bringing a naughty tech-house energy, making it impossible to stand still as the sleazy bass locks in with the drums. Winding high-end technicality balances the playful lows, muffled vocal hooks and decaying leads evoking a sense of hedonism, snapped back to reality by the fierce snare programming.

On the B side “King Tide” teases a slightly lighter mood, with energized melody and floating bounce. Utilizing familiar tones and percussion, whilst experimenting with filters and resonance to take you on a sonic exploration. A state of hypnosis, occasionally interrupted by subtle unexpected contrast, those special desired moments on a dance floor. “Bugger”, the final track on the record, presents a skin crawling anthem destined for the darkest of corners, murked shadows engaging in a heavy stomp. Bass focused, blurring genres, total sludge with a whiplash - commanding your attention.

Each track brings its own unique mastery and mature sound design, built upon a trusted foundation of rolling elation. As the Melbourne X Planet Euphorique partnership continues to develop, the pairing feels particularly ideal, linking in harmony to deliver an innovative, polished record primed to cause havoc.

Orlando Detroit Connection - 1000 Miles Ahead

Repress

DJ Duke always had a massive number of alter egos. One he only used once in 1996 was „Orlando Detroit Connection“ releasing mesmerizing Breakbeat tunes, connecting the deepest shit ever with some analog synth madness and stomping, broken beats.

Duke about this EP:

It was called Orlando /Detroit because I had been playing in Orlando a few times and they were really into the whole breakbeat scene, which was around the time I started doing more electro/break beat stuff. I added Detroit, because it was really a mix of breaks with techno sounds on top.
I did the electro stuff with Techfunkers and it eventually evolved into more break beat and then some acid too mixed in, but this release was just a mix of old detroit and the Orlando break scene

so you also djed stuff like this?
Yes, obviously when I started out DJing and electro was born I was playing electro in the 80s, but after I had produced house, I liked to mix different genres, and I think I was probbaly oneof the only ones that was doing electro/house in 1993, but there was a fairly large scene in Florida and elsewhere where they played funky acid breaks, so I did some of that, and this release was spawned from that time.

The Orb - Abolition Of The Royal Familia 2x12"

Abolition of the Royal Familia is 17th album from Alex Paterson and his rotating roster of collaborative cohorts. It forms part two of a pair, and a continuation No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds. It’s also the first with Paterson and Michael Rendall as main writing partners, with Rendall having risen-up-the-ranks from a member of The Orb’s touring band. The album features guest turns from Youth, Roger Eno, Steve Hillage, Miquette Giraudy, and a whole lot more.

The album is inspired by and in retrospective protest of the royal family’s historical endorsement of the East India Company’s opium trade, which was hugely damaging to India and caused two wars with China in the 18th and 19th centuries. Humour, samples, deep ambience, cerebral throbbing dub, classic house, the white island, hiphop, psych and heartbreakingly beautiful contemporary composition together with, perhaps less expectedly, a proudly pop element.

Hawk Kings is atribute to Steven Hawking, who told Paterson that he used to listen to The Orb when they met at a lecture. Paterson describes the track as “monster of a tune, in a similar mood to Assassin and Toxygene.

The final track ‘Slipped Back’ is a beautiful heartfelt song by Izzy Risk that flows effortlessly over Footshooter’s signature drum programming with additional trumpets once again from Wilf Petherbridge.

23.06.2020

Since making his debut as 96 Back in 2018, Evan Majumdar-Swift has become one of underground electronic music's genuine rising stars. To date, the Sheffield-born producer has released two acclaimed albums for labels such as Hypercolour and CPU as well as a string of singles and collaborations. His EP for Happy Skull showcases his growing versatility as a producer and marks the labels return following a brief hiatus.

"143 Connections", is a rapidly unfurling club cut that sees him pepper a weighty 140 rhythm track with crispy arpeggios and rolling acid motifs . The track increases in intensity as it progresses, with Rob Gordon's immaculate mastering work bringing out the cut's inherent weight, sharpness and subtle Bleep influences.

Elsewhere across the EP, 96 Back takes the opportunity to expand his trademark sound a little further. "Set Science" is a colourful slab of electro machine funk, full of fizzing sci-fi melodies and brain dance era synth work while "In The Trunk, Belting Down The Highway" drops the tempo but turns the intensity up to red with a slow motion chunk of mutant electronica complete with misty eyed breakdown.

Calm - By Your Side - Remixes Part 1

Following on from Calm’s stunning By Your Side album on Hell Yeah late last year, it is now revisited with a series of special remixes. Part 1 finds the Japanese artist himself revisit one track, while Mind Fair also step up with fresh new versions.

First up, Calm reworks his own ‘Mellow Mellow Sadness’ into Mellow Mellow Acid. It's a super slow burning and soothing remix with a gentle acid line drawn out of tumbling drums. Blissful chords ripple out to the horizon and you can really feel the sun on your face with this one.

Golf Channel and International Feel disco duo Mind Fair step up to flip ‘My Home Town’ into a long legged and gorgeously hazy downtempo disco bomb. The chords shimmer and shine and will have people swaying with their eyes shut and is sure to become a huge track this summer.
