Ariel, the new EP from Taragana Pyjarama aka Nick Kold Ericksen Is a suite of 5am trance breakdowns capturing those moments when the sun is almost coming up, the clarity just before and just after something truly epic crystallized eternally in vignettes presented in a sequence - a series of tracks ecstatic on their own but transcendent together. Intrumental EP opener 'Givers' builds to the point of rapture, while title track 'Ariel' promises I will do all it takes, I will be here all the way,' over icy, undulating synthwork. 'Ber' is an exercise in subtlety, a soft beat peppered with icy flourishes.

Taragana Pyjarama takes the major chord ecstasy of progressive house and strips it of ornament with barely any drums, no drops and no resolutions - arpeggiated melodies and simple vocal features, including a stand-out turn from rising young New Zealander Lontalius on 'Buchla'. The record closes with 'Together', a distorted voice drawing in and blanketing the listener before evaporating into the ether.

I have always tried to push myself with each release,' Erickson reveals, but this is the first time I feel like I've succeeded. I've had to sorta force out an unnatural way for me of writing music, which at times has felt almost like a break up or something. Something I had to get through and had to do, to feel better about it. It's a new start in a way. I'm just getting comfortable with my music and learning from this, but at the same time everything seems so much clearer now.

Royal-T swiftly follows up his heavyweight Shotta EP that featured P Money & Footsie on vocals with remixes from Kahn & Neek (Deep Medi, Bandulu) and Wen (Keysound, Soundman Chronicles). Butterz have been long term fans of the respective remixers featuring them on their Fabriclive residencies and radio shows for the past three years. Wen's Remix is an extensive 11 mins, expanding the original ideas into a dark journey, which takes over the whole A side. Kahn & Neek keep the MCs in mind, 8 bars switches, short and sharp, perfect for fans of their work on their exclusive vinyl imprint Bandulu. 'Limbo' the mellow cut from the EP gets a reworking from Royal-T's production partners DJ Q & Flava D as t q d. They follow up their recent Garage release on Butterz 'Day & Night' with a bassline stomper, built for their warehouse parties up North. The packaging as always is photographed and designed by David Kelly, Butterz in house designer for every release so far, and is taken from Soup Kitchen in Manchester a club the family call home in the North, and where Wen, Kahn & Neek and Royal-T will have shows in the Autumn.
 

Debut single for another hugely tipped young London based producer on the legendary R&S record label, showcasing that the label is once again a serious force to be reckoned with. James Blake is making some of the most startlingly original music to have emerged from London in 2010 and is a real star in the making. In between studying Popular Music at Goldsmiths and writing a debut album that will take a lot of people by surprise, he has released amazing singles on Hemlock & Hessle, pushing the boundaries of what is expected of 'dubstep' music. This underground introduction has made him a star on influential blogs and websites and has now pricked up the ears of more mainstream press. With features to be published before the release of this EP in Dazed & Confused, NME and Pitchfork. CMYK is a club anthem in the making and one of the most in demand tracks on the dubstep scene. The further three tracks take a more introspective approach, and aren't strictly aimed at the dancefloor, but are equally heavy tracks that drip with funk and reveal themselves fully after repeated listens. Also an in demand DJ and remixer his remixes of Untold and Mount Kimbie are classics on their scene. This 12" release is likely to become both a James Blake and R&S collectors item.

Having already constructed a mass of laudable offerings for the likes of Four40 Records, MadTech and Infinite Machine, formidable UK powerhouse Cloaka, aka Nathan Patel, makes his debut for MDNGHT Records this spring. The West-Midland native delivers a crisp, glossy yet belligerent affair of cross-pollenated house, bass and techno - archetypal of his genre-merging production technique.

Title track 'Lessun' is a melodic onslaught of unrestrained bass and percussion, driven by a dynamic arpeggio synth that's hampered with playful swagger and edge. A swooning pad sets the scene midway, prior to an enigmatic breakdown that reduces the framework to its immersive synth line. Cutting back into the mix, the surging offbeat drum assault returns. For the final jaunt, a shift in melody progressively builds suspense before the track finally erupts into a treacherous 4x4 arrangement. The result is well-polished, timeless record that balances an innovative low-end odyssey with a technicoloured approach to modern day music production.

Efflorescent Gang Fatale affiliate Bleaker, steps up as the first remixer on the EP to rehash Cloaka's original track. The young Scottish beatsmith refines the unrestricted stems of 'Lessun' into a hypnotic house jam, laden with floating organic chord stabs and a low-slung undulating bassline that builds a warm yet club-friendly atmosphere.

Viers' reshape takes us on a locomotive, dubbed-out journey of freshly squeezed Functional Techno. Growing in momentum through the seven minutes of carefully constructed dance floor urgency - Viers redevises a banger for discerning basements in it's own right.

Ansome transforms the sweet-tasting title track and gives us a Lessun in hollowed- out industrial techno physics. The South London based hardware hooligan crafts a

mechanic atmosphere inundated with an interweave of washed out percussion and texture, pounding home a club-shaking modal bass pulse. It's the perfect conclusion to a classic release that features an impressive harmonic balance - an essential disc for the eclectic club DJ.

The highly anticipated Moonshine Recordings 'Steppin' Forward' album is finally here, compiling 15 exclusive, unreleased tracks from the most exciting up and coming producers as well as experienced veterans on the dubby side of bass music scene.

The first new single from Shlohmo brought to you by True Panther x Wedidit.Shlohmo's sound has evolved in ways that are difficult to describe. His unique approach to production seems as steeped in sludge metal as it is in drum & bass, as much IDM as it is R&B. It is somewhere deep within this sonic collage that he has carved out a distinct and celebrated voice in the electronic music space. His production on BANKS' 2014 single 'Brain,' and his sought-after remixes and crossover style, as witnessed in this year's collaborative release with Jeremih, are further evidence of his immense talent and wide scope of influence.

DJ Madd is Hungarian-born New York resident Peter Simon. Arriving via Bristol andTokyo he has been writing music since his early teens and scored his first vinyl release in '08. Highly acclaimed for his WAR series of white label releases, he bridges the sonic connection between underground bass music and the Jamaican reggae sound. Amongst others, he has also recorded for N-Type's Wheel & Deal Records, Dubstep mainstays Boka & Subway, Dub specialists ZamZam Sounds, Junglists 36 Hertz and Chemical Records brilliant and sadly defunct Black Box label.

Madd's Cosmic Bridge debut, the 'Rum Punch EP' further refines his soundbwoy science with four big riddims designed for big rigs. Operating in the fertile 160 BPM range he combines heavy 808's with classic dubwise sounds, touching on Jungle, OG '06 Dubstep, Hip-Hop and Dub. He says.... 'My focus is to bring the fusion of reggae music with modern sounds to the next level.'

Sharpened stepper 'Dredlok' fires the first round at Babylon; sci-fi dread synths conspire with the spectres of a murderous Ragga vocal, natty halfstep drums and an incendiary LFO tweaked bassline that will rumble on any system very nicely. EP title track 'Rum Punch' follows with steel drums (their inclusion inspired by Dillinja's clas- sic All Aboard) rolling breaks and colossal weighted bass enveloping another fine-cut 808 beat.

On the flip, is the more stoned and rolling, 'SPCL RQST'. Wide arcing synth pads and shadowy robo-Rastafari vocals samples drift out into space, while the tracks pressurised digidub FX and seriously deep dub chords give a riddim lesson for many, and a red-eyed flashback for the rest. 'Duppy' closes; a sticky digickal roots bubbler for all malevolent spirits. Raw sweeping square wave bass and more dub FX ride on the cushioned sub bass and hydro-charged breakbeats that, like the rest of the EP, are all mixed down for serious soundsystem play, no heavy limiting/compression just dynamic vibes, so we let it all breathe!

Om Unit says.... 'Cosmic Bridge releases so far have drawn on a lot of styles within sound system culture but I had been thinking, what's missing from the picture so far is a representation of the dub element; So when legend in the scene DJ Madd approached me with some more uptempo tunes it seemed fitting to draw on his talents. He specialises in modern dub and does it with such style. So here we are.. a killer 4 tracker with a slice of pineapple on the B side. Who can argue Rum Punch mate, vibes!'

Crucial Recordings proudly presents the third release on the label - one whose stock is growing and growing. The 7.5 EP comes courtesy of Brighton-based producer Foamplate who has already earned the support of big names like Distance, Mala, J:Kenzo and N Type.This three-tracker from Foamplate, who crafts his cuts in his studio by the sea, represents a fresh wave of offerings from the artist. He is bonafide vinyl head, he still cuts dubplates and this one right here is his first solo 12' release.
Kicking off the EP is the title track. A nod to the earlier days of dubstep, '7.5' is a dubby, roomy roller. The playful pipes give a festive feel, but we're not talking about Christmas here. We're talking rounded, caressing bass notes coupled with murmurs lurking in the sub-region, beneath a stripped-back drum track. Part jungle, part Jungle Book, 7.5 unfurls into a more eerie, sub-canopy echo chamber, scattered with menacing FX.
A clear cousin of 7.5, Cargo is first up on the flip. More of that round, sporadic bass play highlights an artist with a clear vision but the swinging percussion and hi hats of Cargo give the track its own discernible qualities - the track is both cerebral and ethereal. The short, jagged snare cuts through the foggy, flabbier bass notes like a rusty knife through a speaker cone.
Like the top track, teasing pipes flirt with hypnotic rhythm before transforming into more mischievous yet enticing, percussive melodies. Oculus Rift has the feel of an unplaceable exotique, drawing and conjuring from several of the darkest corners of the subconscious and delivering a world for the conscious to get lost in.

Callahan is a new alias from a recognised producer.
On first listen, it's evident that this isn't a newcomer. The beat maker has astute taste, and a willingness to break boundaries which can only come from experience.A digital release on Mele's Quandrants imprint last month helped introduce the producer's new alias, with a full 12 inch set to drop shortly.'Armshouse' EP is a dextrous four tracker, fusing glistening techno production to sub-low adventures and the odd nod towards grime's jagged rhythmic sense.Clash is able to premiere the title cut and it's a subtle electronic workout. Fresh from his Tempa debut Proxima consolidates his position as one of Dubstep's brightest new talents with a new 12" pairing 'Lie Detection' with 'Brainstem'.
An expertly crafted exercise in brooding tension, 'Lie Detection's jaw tightening atmospherics colour it's half step fundamentals with morse code chatter, hyper decayed vocals and fading feedback traces to knife edge effect.
'Brainstem's position on the flipside maintains it's partners coiled spring arrangement but ramps up the aggression with a half swung / half stomped groove that articulates a more immediate brand of menace while losing nothing in the way of intricacy.
With support from scene pillars Youngsta, & Distance as well as patronage from new school leaders like J:Kenzo and Icicle this is by no means the last you've heard from the Tempa stable's latest addition.

Other People is excited to debut the work of 19-year-old Russian producer Gena Volgarev, aka InLensk, with the Obratno EP. Translated as backward, or conversely, Obratno seems obsessed with and frustrated by a sense of nostalgia that can never lock its focus. Finely etched, highly detailed rhythms retain a cerebral cool fluttering over, under, and around melancholic digital melodies that bend and degrade sporadically. Meanwhile, the tactile use of filtering, extreme pans, and hypnotic microprogramming reveals an interest in sound's ability to shift temporal perception and evoke a purely neural response. Yet there's an intuitive warmth to a track like 'U 1', where a percolating guitar-line seeps through the austerity of a woody, lo-bit groove. Inspired by the artist's childhood in the provincial village of Lensk (thus the pseudonym), Obratnoliterally looks backward for its world. The track titles codify minute, yet impactful aspects of Gena's past. 'V 4', for example, translating to 'in 4', references his tight quartet of best friends, skipping along with an appropriately jocular bassline, tottering cowbell, and a deep, accentual 'Hahaha.' Wherever wistfulness appears there's also anxiety, manifest acutely in the unpredictable percussion. A snatch of Amen break cuts to a strike of open hi-hat and then a roll of heavy toms, never repeating texturally, even if there is a constant pulse. It's the contrast of speed and weight, between the drums and the melody, that creates a provocative air of avid melancholia — grasping for something not too far in the past that's fading faster than it should.

Born and raised in the ghetto of Vila Guilherme located in Brazil's São Paulo, Carlos Almeida Jr. aka Junior Dread represents the new generation of conscious reggae music worldwide. His sound brings a positive message of love and understanding to the world.

He has released singles with respected international artists such as Mungo's Hi- Fi,Dubateers and Gorgon Sound to just name a few. In 2015 he teamed up withMoonshine Recordings to release remixed versions of his biggest tracks 'Wonderful Feeling' and 'Freedom'. Supported by influential artists like Om Unit, Kahn, RadikalGuru, Doc Scott and many others.

Gorgon Sound's take on 'Wonderful Feeling' sends positive vibrations through 2015's dub culture. They have kept Junior Dread's founding voice to rule the top-end vigorously, while catchy instruments levitate original intentions. The duo hit unity with blessing chords, chest-rumbling waves of bass weight and a righteous steppa rhythm that fits the Moonshine outfit perfectly.

The flipside coming from DJ Madd is a darker affaire that hints back to the early Jungle days. His 'Freedom' remix exerts deeply resonating 808 basslines that propagate below a defined threshold. Junior Dread's dub basics are kept close to the heart of the Hungarian producer, which leads to a rework that makes the perfect B-side to this heavy 12' plate from the Moonshine Recordings camp.

* Jubei's original was a clear indication of this when originally released this spring. A monstrous half-step stomp laced with a devilish foggy funk, it played the ideal bed for Roll Deep's Flowdan to lay down his lyrical textures, flipping from stark soliloquies to double time message-making in the space of a bar.
* Naturally Rockwell's paid respect to every menacing nuance of the original with this remix. Oozing darkness from very instant you press play; the pitched down vocal triggers tremors as a trap-like 808 kicks in and struts deftly under Flowdan's crucial announcements. Complete with twinkle-light synths and heaving horns, it's a slo-mo juke joint designed to soundtrack your darkest psyche. A celebration of the very best aspects of the original and a neat showcase to his consistently unpredictable styles, Rockwell has stepped up to the Razor's Edge challenge in every way.
