Rye Rye - real name Ryeisha Berrain - began performing at the age of 16, and a chance meeting with Blaqstarr resulted in their 2006 club hit 'Shake It To The Ground', heralding an impressive list of collaborations including Diplo, Robyn, Toddla T, M.I.A. and more, with Rye Rye touring with the latter throughout 2007 and 2008 and appearing in the video for her global smash 'Paper Planes'. This time she's jumping on a spidery beat from mercurial West London producer and DEEK label boss Bullion aka Nathan Jenkins... 'I found an old MP3 player when I was back at my folks' house, in with a load of my old stuff, and it had this weird track on it... a dancehall rhythm made with a didgeridoo sample. It was labeled 'Bum Spider' and I tried for ages to google it and couldn't find anything (googling 'bum spider' brought some strange results) so I put a tweet out describing it but... nothing. Then my manager, who knows the producer Bullion, told me it was by him and that he must have sent it to me ages ago! Anyway, I called Bullion up and said I had to release this track because I'd become obsessed with it. Rye Rye came to mind immediately for a top line so I got in touch and she loved the track so got on it and came back with 'Keep Up'.' - DAVE MACLEAN, KICK + CLAP Bullion's productions are full of distinctive rhythmic arrangements and unexpected changes - owing to a short attention span and acute attention to detail. With a slew of releases on One-Handed music, he drew the attention of Young Turks, releasing 'You Drive Me To Plastic' in 2011 and soon after, R&S, revealing his own voice on 2012's hypnotic 'Say Arr Ee'. Forthcoming is 'Rooster', a mini album for joint release on Greco-Roman and DEEK. Alongside his solo output Nathan produces and writes with other artists. His collaborations include Gwilym Gold, Laura Groves & Tic Zogson (as Nautic) and Jesse Hackett (as Blludd Relations).

Irgendwie ist es eine Auflehnung gegen das System der Elektronik selbst.

Anthony selbst, der braucht übrigens auch keinen Irokesenschnitt auf dem Kopf, um aus der Reihe zu tanzen. Mit 12 Jahren legt er an Afterparties in der Schweiz auf, mit 17 schmeisst er seine ersten Raves und kurz danach kommen seine ersten Releases bei ein paar englischen Labels. Und seither Jahre der Komposition und Produktion bei allen möglichen Labels, in Frankreich und sonstwo.

Er stammt aus dem französisch-deutsch-schweizerischen Dreiländereck und wächst in Basel auf. Einer Stadt mit unerwartet reichhaltigem kulturellem und musikalischem Reichtum, welche ihn sehr inspiriert. Ihn, den musikalisch hyperaktiven, der ganze Nächte ohne Pause zum Tanze aufspielt und dann in einer Woche 10 neue Songs schreibt... Wenn er es so sehr liebt, die Leute bis zur Erschöpfung tanzen zu sehen, dann brauchen sie dazu das richtige Material...

As a former student and lecturer of sound design andadvanced music technology, his debut album brims with fascination at the psychologically affecting qualities of sound.Although still sonically kindred to dubstep, it occupies a genuinely self-defined musical space, where oceanic halfstepriddims like 'Shockwaves' and 'Zen Force' collide with the thrillingly exploratory broken techno of 'Stickman' and'Menacer'. Elsewhere he leaves any notions of the dancefloor behind entirely: the eerie voiceover of 'Nomine's Ego'coils through free space amid gorgeous striplit harmonies and airlock hiss.At the album's heart is Nomine's astonishing command of space and atmosphere. On 'Blind Man' and 'Reticent Shadow'he matches simmering martial arts movie dialogue with music that bristles with Zen-like discipline and focus, while'84600' and 'Hide & Seek' wield silence like a weapon, dropping pinprick melodies and percussion into the echochamber and remoulding the air around them. The spaghetti-western freakout of 'Dark Is The Night', meanwhile, recallsthe haunting visual psychedelia of Alejandro Jodorowsky's cult film El Topo. On the flip, label head K-LONE contributes 'Broke' - a beautifully sculpted percussive workout with a reduced, swinging groove.

HOLY STRAYS is the nom de plume of 22 year-old Paris-based musician and producer, Sebastien Forrester. The single, released on a limited edition 7" and digitally, follows on from his first releases via LA-based powerhouse Not Not Fun (Peaking Lights, Maria Minerva, Ducktails)
Christabell A & B, born here as non-identical twins, are formed from stuttery motorik drum patterns, twinkling synth micro-melodies and hypnotic organ loops whilst Forrester's own manipulated vocals spiral disembodied through the tracks under a haze of delay and reverb acting more as part of the music's instrumental make up then serving any lyrical function. The resulting soundscapes lie somewhere in between an ADHD take on Villalobos' percussive led experimental techno combined with the subtlety and playful instrumentation of Pantha du Prince overlaid with the otherworldly ethereal vocal styles of Balam Acab.

A lot of musicians fall in love with their effect pedals,
but Ulrich Troyer is probably the first one to
describe the interior world of his stompboxes &
delay pedals with a project that combines music, a
graphic novel and hand drawn visuals for the live
performance. SONGS FOR WILLIAM 2 is the
second part of an experimental dub trilogy that
started in 2011 on Mala's DEEP MEDI Label &
continues 2013 on Ulrich Troyer's own 4Bit
Productions label. The project is the perfect
intersection of the talents and interests of Ulrich
Troyer: illustration, architecture, acoustic research,
old school dub reggae and afrobeat.
Troyer - a trained architect - creates a distinctive
and overall impressive soundarchitecture
throughout the whole album full of dub references
and abstract electronics that refer to Troyer's past
as a MEGO artist. Comic novel and music are
connected to each other and form a fascinating
gesamtkunstwerk. Classic dub effects act as lead
characters not only in the graphic novel but also in

You never know what influences, styles and genres you will hear when you press play on a Ralph Cumbers' Bass Clef record but with an ever expanding back catalogue and a renowned live show to boot, you know you are in for a treat.
Chanson du Ricochet, features two tracks of idiosyncratic electronic shimmers & rattling sub bass on his second release for Belfast based Rudimentary records.

A-side, Hummingblurs takes a slow burning ethereal approach in its opening section rising to a snare rattling foundation rumbler at the two minute mark. A track that would be as at home on the headphones as in a set of left field house in the early hours.

B-side, Chanson du Ricochet focuses more squarely on the club aesthetic taking the BPMs higher. Like a techno possessed one man band, Chanson glitches and morphs it's way from a four four beat, to broken kick drum patterns, to sub aquatic melodies.

Based in London, Bass Clef is a dance artist who criss-crosses boundaries making friends where ever he goes, armed with his trombone, effects, and percussive instruments of choice he is a potent mix of dance(hall) inspirations - 21st Century urban roots music, Caribbean rhythms, pulsating techno, hypnotic brass, machine soul and classic 'hands in the air' rave dynamics which all swirl around the Bass Clef sound-system experience.
In the past few years he has also remixed Kasai Allstars, Au Revoir Simone, Brigitte Fontaine, Zun Zun Egui and Grace Jones, and he recently launched a new big band live experience called Bass Clef and The Hackney Memorial Free Jazz Marching Band.

A former mainstay of the LA beat scene, Kutmah has been somewhat quiet on the release front since being deported from the United States and relocating to the UK. Now, the London-based producer has revealed plans to issue a new EP via the Technicolour imprint (helmed by UK producer PhOtOmachine). The forthcoming Our Mannequin EP will offer six original productions from Kutmah, while featuring LA producer/vocalist Seven Davis Jr and Zackey Force Funk on two separate tracks.

* His first collection of tracks for the label, 'New Palms', ranges from low-slung meditative rhythms, to bass-heavy speaker blowing Hip Hop. Kinlaw cuts and splices hazy field recordings with 144p youtube rips, sprinkles with shiny drum hits, referencing R&B and Trap through his dreamy skew.

ZamZam presents two fresh cuts of Bristol dubwise from King Rob Smith Dubs AKARSD. Rob has been ruling the world of dubwise dance music for two decades, helping to define the Bristol sound as More Rockers and Blue & Red, and as part of seminal UK dub/jungle/soul crew Smith & Mighty. His second outing for ZamZam, this 7' follows a string of massive releases the last few years, most recently on Moonshineand Astar Artes.

With 'World Hungry' and 'Dub Pride' we hear RSD at the height of his powers, intuitively constructing sound system music that pulls in influences from the history of UK reggae, dub, jungle, and that unmistakable Bristol vibe that keeps the people coming back for more. The sound is perpetual deja-vu, like a parallel-universe dance that is at once 90's, 00's, now, and next. Rob deploys his signature warm & massive bass sound with sophisticated, syncopated drum programming, strings, sweeps, samples and melodic elements that capture the past, present and future of Bristol with a wink and a nod. Listening to these tunes we hear the deft touch of a master with nothing to prove, displaying playfulness, joy, and total confidence.

"World Hungry" forwards a brooding vibe combining a steppers kick pulse with syncopated snares, dueling basstones and rich strings. "Dub Pride' is a summery shock of rocking, stuttering breaks, melodic figures that appear only to vanish, and vocal samples that will spread love and inity and get bodies off the wall and onto the floor as the warm weather settles in across the land.

Heights & Worship (AKA Ras Heights of Ital Sound System, and Rob Paine ofWorship Recordings and Solomonic Sound) return to ZamZam a year and a half after their lauded first release as a duo, 'Teach Dem.' For Zam Round Two, the Philly veterans teamed up with none other than reggae veteran Carlton Livingston.

"Crucify Me" is a unique and powerful vision of contemporary reggae and dub that combines a propulsive, percussive one drop riddim, massive bass, warm pads, snatches of harmonica, modulating synth and sophisticated filtering and dubbing for an almost psychedelic sound-world. In contrast to the current fashion of minimalism in sound system music, they pursue a full, thick, and enveloping sound that totally represents their point of view.

All of this frames Carlton Livingston's brilliant lyric, a snapshot of the razor's edge he has to walk to stay sane and spiritually intact in the world of politicks and badmen that is the reality of day-to-day living in East Kingston, Jamaica.

Livingston is true reggae royalty, having recorded for many of the greatest producers and labels in the history of Jamaican music, from Studio One to Techniques,Greensleeves, Jah Life, Power House, Digital-B, VP and countless others. He remains an active and powerful voice of conscience and ZamZam is proud to host him here, vocal and dubwise.
