"One of the greatest new talents to emerge on the dance scene in the last few years" - Skrufff.com
"Consistently proves himself to be one of the most peerlessly beautiful recording artists in modern dance music" - IDJ
"One to keep a close eye on" - Fabric blog
"Haunting" - Clash magazine
"Beautiful, hypnotic techno that should be listened to by anybody with even a passing interest in intelligently geared dance music" - Electrorash
'"The End of Reason," a truly sublime beatless tour de force that recalls Philip Glass, Aphex Twin's most serene moments and even Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3" - Resident Advisor

The facts are easy to establish: Max Cooper has more than 50 original releases, tracks and remixes under his belt, from glitchy reinterpretations of big bands like Hot Chip and Au Revoir Simone to straight dancefloor 12"s like his breakthrough "Serie" originals and remixes for names like Agoria, Dominik Eulberg, Extrawelt, Pig and Dan, Kaiserdisco and Sasha.

The approach, meanwhile, is anything but simple. A melancholy composer whose live sets can raise blisters in a club, Cooper is as comfortable writing abstract electronica as he is writing dancefloor techno 12"s . A rationalist with an otherworldly, idealistic side, Cooper is also a wildly creative musician who until recently had a day job as a sober scientist.

And he's swung from extreme to extreme since he first took to the decks 11 years ago.

As Cooper sees it, there's conflict, but it's part of the music-writing process. Each side of his personality sparks ideas off the other, and what remains constant is his own unique and starkly emotional style. From his breakthrough trilogy of "Serie" releases on Traum Schallplatten - the first released in 2009 and with each track inspired by a different scientific or mathematical concept - Cooper has built a reputation for one-off originals, killer remixes and challenging DJ and live sets.

Since his first release in 2007, his back catalogue now includes two mainstream Hype Machine smashes with reworks of Hot Chip and Portishead, several Beatport genre top 10s, work with the visual artists Whiskas fX and Nick Cobby and an increasing number of collaborations with artists a long distance from Cooper's dancefloor beginnings.

With his time now mainly spent writing and touring music, Cooper continues to release his own originals, with 'The End Of Reason' described by Resident Advisor as "a truly sublime beatless tour de force that recalls Philip Glass, Aphex Twin's most serene moments and even Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3", and the UK's IDJ magazine saying that Cooper "consistently proves himself to be one of the most peerlessly beautiful recording artists in modern dance music". Stark, emotive and original, Cooper is, according to Skrufff.com, "One of the greatest new talents to emerge on the dance scene in the last few years".

John Graham - Cold Sun

John Graham

Cold Sun

CDDISN230
Distinctive
01.07.2015

UK born but now US based, John Graham's new album is set to reach these shores showcasing slick, contemporary indie-rock with electronic touches and a heap of swagger. With influences including the Stone roses, Kasabian, The Cure, Depeche mode and more, it's an album full of ideas which is primed to make an impact. The album is something of a departure for Graham, whose previous work under the name Quivver has seen him gaining countless plaudits producing house and techno music.

However, 'Cold Sun' and lead single 'Roll the Dice' prove that there are multiple strings to this particular bow, by turning out tunes which are strongly based on the indie rock genre. These hook laden, energetic tracks are then laced with dynamic electronic ideas, ported over from his experience in the EDM genres, to give them extra flavour. It's not common that indie, rock and electronic ideas are mixed so effectively, with the latter adding superb textures to the former, and it's certainly one hell of a combination thanks to the subtlety of John Graham's genre bending.

This combination is showcased by this superb video for the single - not suitable for those with a fear of heights, it blends off kilter performance footage with a montage of adrenaline pumping, high risk stunts. It's a truly compelling watch married to a fantastic musical groove.

https://www.youtube.com/watchv=I9IMUpbSqo4&feature=youtu.be

The 'Cold Sun' album has been in the making for many years, being written in snatched time between full time work as a house and techno DJ and producer. It's release is the culmination of an ambition John Graham has had for many years - to create a collection of songs that don't fit neatly into a specific genre, and demonstrate just how versatile his writing can be.

His new music does a fantastic job of proving that thanks to a brazen and assured indie rock approach that drips with attitude. It's a long way from the jungle and house specialist who started out in the 1990s and is well established in that environment. Over the years since, John Graham (as Quivver) has picked up myriad honours and career highs. The quality of his work can be vouched for by over 45,000 online followers, as well as record deals with Virgin, Warner Brothers & Hooj Choons who he has had record deals with in the past.

Young Turks
30.01.2015

Young Turks are pleased to announce the release of 'Young Turks 2014', a compilation that celebrates the London based independent label's year of releases.

2014 began with the release of Sampha's 'Too Much' / 'Happens' 7'. Sampha has been working on new solo material this year, while also working with longtime collaborator SBTRKT.

SBTRKT himself released his second album 'Wonder Where We Land' in September and is currently taking his acclaimed live show around the world.

Recent Young Turks signing 'Quirke' released his 'Acid Beth' EP in May. The EP is an insight into the world of Josh Quirke, a London based producer making music that could only exist in the current generation of genre confused electronica.

2014 also marked the return of Jamie xx. The producer released two limited edition singles 'All Under One Roof Raving' and the AA-side 'Girl' / 'Sleepsound'. As well as working on new music with both The xx and his own solo album, Jamie spent much of 2014 playing shows around the world and last month picked up a Q Award for Best Video for 'Girl'.

Lastly, 2014 saw the meteoric rise of FKA twigs. The much talked about singer, producer and director is currently in the middle of her largest tour to date, playing shows across the UK, Europe and North America. Since its release in August, her debut album 'LP1' has received worldwide critical acclaim and was one of twelve albums to make the shortlist for the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize.

Exit Records
09.04.2015

Exit Records bring a new project to the table with a collaboration between Consequence and Joe Seven. Consequence made his debut on Exit in 2009 with his highly acclaimed album 'Live For Never' capturing the attention of electronica fans world-wide with his organic and unique take on Drum n Bass. Also having been a staple part of the Autonomic camp since day one, he's slowly but surely developing his sound and delving deeper into the unknown. This time he teams up with another new Exit artist Joe Seven (who has an imminent solo single) and together they have created the They Live alias to showcase what happens when these two minds meet in the studio. The album is very much intended to be listened to in the order it has been presented, as a whole body of music meant to capture your senses and lead you across a soundscape of atmospheres, textures, differing tempos and a variety of percussion elements. In the same way as a silent movie can stimulate your sense of hearing, Cancel Standard does the opposite like an imageless movie, giving you the soundtrack and letting you imagine your own visual elements. Each track sets its own scene that is part of the bigger picture, creating a body of music that can offer the listener detachment from their immediate surroundings and escapism into an alternate reality.

Cropper - Drift / Deeper

Blah Blah Blah Records once again establish their commitment to grass roots talent, with another debut, this time in the form of the
halcyon yet gritty London based producer Cropper.
Opening Track 'Drift' is celestially primeval in origin, with distantly resonating sounds steadily being drawn together from the dark
recesses of the consciousness. As these layers gently collide with ever increasing energy you can sense the evolutionary anticipation
building, before an unsuspecting and transxing nal act shatters all initial pretense. Deeper on the other hand has no pretense,
heavy beats, incisive percussion instantly set about laying your ears to waste with growling efciency and an unshakeable sub laden
groove. Where Drift draws your gaze towards the heavens, Deeper drags you back down to a darker more subterranean world.
With support for Blah Blah Blah Records coming from the likes of Resident Advisor, Breach, Four Tet, Claude VonStroke, Deetron,
Midland, South London Ordnance, Beatport, Laurent Garnier, B. Traits among others, and with Cropper recently conrming shows
supporting Zed Bias, George Fitzgerald, and Jackmaster we are condent in saying that Cropper's debut record on BBB also
deserves your undivided attention. One to watch.

Alex Coulton - Recall/wiretrap

Recall/Wiretap, from Manchester's Alex Coulton, follows on from his stark, atmospheric contribution to the recent Tempa Allstars Vol. 7 compilation.

Across acclaimed 12's for labels including Livity Sound, Black Acre and Mistry, in recent years Coulton has honed an ultra stripped-back, rhythm-driven aesthetic that refracts techno through a sub-heavy sound system prism. This makes him a natural ally for Tempa, which has always focused on music that draws maximum club impact from a bare handful of elements.

Both tracks on Coulton's Tempa 12' roll out around hypnotic, sidewinding rhythms, packing intense, percussive energy for peak-time 'floors. 'Recall' is a gradually unfurling firestorm of distorted kickdrums, reverb and molten sub-bass, which repeatedly dies away to near-silence before returning with twice the impact. On the flip, 'Wiretap' is lighter but no less intense: a whirling assembly of drums, warping bass and freakily catchy struck melodies that's as tough yet elastic as tensile steel.

Alpha Steppa/ Don Fe & Reality Souljahs - Reality Check

Alpha Steppa Meets Don Fe featuring Reality SoulJahs. After the success of Steppas Records' previous collaboration with Don Fe it was inevitable a second instalment would surface. This time with musical and lyrical support from label head Alpha Steppa and long time UK Roots vocal duo Reality SoulJahs, respectively. A heavy steppers riddim from Don Fe featuring the conscious militant lyrics of Reality SoulJahs accompanied by an earth-shattering Alpha Steppa version and dub mixes from both camps. Mastered with maximum clarity and bass pressure and housed in the brand new reverse-board 300gsm Steppas Records house-bag.

The Reality duo initiated their musical kinship in 1990 with the launch of their Reality Sound System. From the early days of lifting boxes and recording dubplates, this North London duo have gone on to forge a powerful relationship and have established themselves as intelligent and instantly recognisable vocal and lyrical talents. An integral part of today's UK roots reggae scene.

UK born musician and producer based in Spain for over 20 years, Don Fe's passion since the age of five has been music, classically trained in piano, flute and theory and as from sixteen reggae. From his humble beginnings in the 80s with a 4 track and a TDK D90 his riddims and productions are now being played by the world's most respected sounds - Channel One, Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti, Iration Steppas and many more all over the world.

Dubdadda - Lo-fi Pon De Hi-fi

The Dubdadda, or Jono as he is known throughout the reggae world, is one of the mainstays of the UK reggae scene. Hailing from Manchester he was a founder member of the renowned Community Charge - the best homegrown reggae talent in the UK in their era. After the demise of this band the Dubdadda was instrumental in forming Nucleus Roots alongside other former members of the Community Charge line-up.

In 2001 Dubdadda joined Zion Train vocal section and started to work on his debut album.

'Lo-Fi Pon De Hi-Fi' was originally released in 2004 on his own label Dub Hooligan Records and distributed worldwide through Universal Egg Records. During the past decade he toured the world with Zion Train as their main vocalist and released some quality tunes including 'Boxes and Amps' or 'Terror Talk', mainly on the Universal Egg sublabel Deep Root.

'Lo-Fi Pon De Hi-Fi' was one of the albums that had a huge impact on the work of our team at Moonshine Recordings, therefore we are more than happy to present this great piece of dub history on our label. After over 10 years from the day it was first released, Dubdadda's debut album 'Lo-Fi Pon De Hi-Fi' will be finally available on vinyl.

Minimum Syndicat - Fortress Of Noise

UK is (again) a hot place for uncompromising stuff at the moment. It was inevitable Minimum Syndicat would soon welcome a leading producer of the new wave of british darker techno. George Lanham chose the french label to present the fiercer side of his sound, that Dave Clarke once described as "peaktime dancefloor destruction that mixes Beltram with Chicago and Hood with Faki". This one is a lesson in nosebleed severity with a modern twist. XXIst century techno body music. No hipster allowed.

"Dethroned" is your typical M-Syndicat dark room acid techno : weird but controled
energy, sinister soundwaves, 3 AM disorientation....and a lot of driving stuff in the rhythm section to keep the whole thing rockin' hard.

Then you have «Shenyang Dark Sword  », a militant warehouse march straight from the T-800 factory, with an omnious synth droning over tribal-industrial percussions. Relentless machinery for the sickest dancefloors.

The french-russian alliance of Jauzas The Shining and Dmitry Distant provides the aftermath with some gorgeous, crepuscular electro, somehow reminiscent of the great early Warp soundscapes.

Las & Mikael - Las X Mikael Ep

It's a pleasure to watch a quality artist's work flourish over the years, and LAS's time in the music game has been special. Ever since he broke through back in 2011, his tracks have been resolutely on point, displaying a compelling mix of different rhythms, ideas and system-ready bassweight. Now as we move into 2014, LAS has evolved into one of the heaviest underground producers out there bar none, and he marks his first record of the year in style with Innamind Recordings, a collaborative effort with his talented Finnish compatriot and friend, Mikael. Mikael himself has excited for a while now, especially with the free Innamind download 'Dreaming' released last month, and he has all the makings of someone ready to follow in the footsteps of LAS in leaving a lasting effect on dubstep and beyond.
The release pieces together their absolutely deadly lead track, 'Dem Break', with solo tracks on the flip including LAS's 'Need Fire' and Mikael's 'Drain'. All three tracks feature the barrages of low frequency pressure that we have come to expect from Innamind's output, with the pure dread weight of the bassline on 'Dem Break' in particular forming a 'speaker stack battering focal point, on top of which they build smoky atmospheres and minimal but effective percussion to keep bodies moving. On 'Need Fire', LAS crafts a mystical, surefire classic that combines subtle touches of melancholic melody with animated rhythms and floor-raising sub-bass, and on 'Drain' Mikael has built a no-nonsense, unashamedly heavy master class in proper soundsystem music.

Mr.flash - Bagheera Feat. Lady Leshurr

«A year ago we released Mr Flash first album «Sonic Crusader». I've been waiting for this album for almost 10 years. It represents what Ed Banger records is about...For some reasons only few people noticed, so unfair (my heart speaks here)», Pedro Winter says.
Here we come again with « BAGHEERA » featuring London based Lady Leshurr.
Will you accept a trip in the jungle with a furious MC and some crazy monkeys Mr Flash will guide you with his compressed beats and mental melodies. We've asked some hot remixers to complete this package. Mr Flash tell us why you called BABY DUKA & ASTRO ZU :
« I discovered Kwamie Liv a year ago and instantly felt in love with her delicate track untitled Coming Down. It's cinematic, smooth, atmospheric and trippy. I's still one of my favorite joint of the last year and i open my DJ sets with it from time to time. By any means it was necessary for me to get a remix by Baby Duka, the talented producer behind Kwamie and i thank him for that. Go get it ! »
« That guy (Astro Zu) from LDN is a masterful producer who made lush and colorful beats. His downtempo soundscapes beats are really sick ! His music is a little bit loose and combines R&B vocals with tropical percussions and layers of dreamy ambient pads for a whimsical beauty trip. I love his revisited version of Bagheera and I'm proud to have him on board! »
On his side Ed Banger's boss has called France's hottest producers Fulgeance and DJ Oil. They are both representing what's happening right now in France. Fulgeance could be the hidden son of the Dust Brothers! Dj Oil has been here for a long time, signed to BBE and Gilles Peterson's favorite, he is a man we can only respect. You'll surely enjoy his 7 minutes growing funk machine remix!

ULTRAMAJIC
08.05.2015

JETS sophomore official release, their highly anticipated debut on ULTRAMAJIC see's the two artists display an approach to production that deals in the paradoxes and ambiguities of both studio songwriting and raw live performance; a somewhat soothing amalgamation of disproportion, But also weirdly right, evident that despite Edgar and Stewart's careers sharing striking parallels, they have known each other for...well forever.

The 4-track EP reassembles a long-scattered sketchbook of songwriting confidence that the pair have filled with drawings of cosmic rhythms, experimental sounds and other analogue obsessions.

"Our first record was more of us finding out space and creating a new environment of sound to work with. This release was much more about exploring the building of our creation"

"U-N-I's'" colour and pallor coming as much from the soulful palette of Jamie Liddell's vocal performance as the dirty turps the pair washed their synthetic brushes in.

JETS production finesse, awash with a delicate nocturnal mood as analogue drums meet colorful chords against a nightscape of glossy darkness.

We spent a lot of time on the sounds, which were mostly from digital hardware sources. We also focused on the recording process more than ever, as we mixed the record on mastering equipment and experimented with bouncing parts onto tape.

The sounds that often many attribute to Jimmy or Travis as solo artists are slowly transpiring to be the opposite, their respective contrasting styles not only behaving with vibrant influence over one another but in turn establishing an exciting benchmark in electronic music songwriting.

Sleeper - Narcissus / Burning Spears

Osiris Music UK continue to stake their claim as one
of the most prolific labels of the year, with a rapid-
fire release schedule boasting consistently excellent
music from Kryptic Minds and their meticulously
curated roster of talent. Next to step up to the plate
is Sleeper, and he delivers two imperious examples
of dark and twisted sub-frequency architecture,
showcasing both his production prowess and his
ever-fertile pool of creativity. 'Narcissus' is the most
upfront cut of the two, with the sheer ferocity,
energy and bassweight to shake a club down to its
foundations. Eerie background pads add to a cold
atmosphere, before a full-blown sensory assault is
unleashed, driven by plunging basslines and huge
mid-range synth incisions that cut back and forth to
hypnotising effect. The rhythmically intense 'Burning
Spears' on the flip is a percussive masterclass, with
a relentless onslaught of clattering bongos, crashing
cymbals and sweeping effects taking centre stage.
It's an intoxicating mix of intricate beats, raw sub
pressure and widescreen sound design in a style
absolutely unique to Sleeper. ....

Following on from Killawatt's Bring Down The Walls EP at the tail end of last year Osiris Music continues to expand their sonic
boundaries as they move in 2014, with their first release of the year coming in the form of Sleeper's Simulation Theory EP.
Experimenting for the very first time with FM synthesis, the EP features seven tracks of thunderous production the majority of sounds for which Sleeper drew from a mere four oscillators in a bid to recalibrate his production skills. The resulting record is far more than the sum of its component parts and, save for the skulking, static soaked tension of Meth, moves with relentless force and purpose throughout.
The Simulation Theory EP sees Sleeper taking his already deft grasp of both dubstep and techno production and fusing them to a body of pummelling forward momentum perfectly suited to set Osiris Music off on what promises to be a bold and progressive year.

His Monolith breathes its first breath, slowly waking, calling to itself with warm metallic stabs,

tight effects and a building rhythm.

The signal calls, distorted sub piling into the mix, driving the beast into the air.

ENA builds the groove and swing with staccato hats, panning noise, percussion and

resonant synths all combining to create an elegant and yet obese construction.

Demarcation is low to the ground. But it likes it there.

Dubbed hits bounce off tiny percussion, white noise and reverbed hats. As the huge sub hits enter, tight percussion gets the groove into the zone and you can hit auto pilot and really

enjoy the view as wet hats, sine bleeps, noise and shakers accumulate to create

a swaggering bottom heavy piece.

This first release sets out Vymaanika stall clearly - well built and thought out tracks, intricate enough to keep the listener engrossed, but simple enough to still make you move

- a hard hybrid to find, but one that will take you where you want to go.
