jungle mania is upon us

Diagonal humbly present one of the sickest 12's of 2017: Raime's second Yally record and their debut turn on the label; a two track sureshot severing jungle from root and redressing Diagonal's
darkside late '90s inspirations in a way that could only be trusted to them.
Rolling out under Raime's twyst-off Yally alias - a project for the band to explore their roots in jungle, garage, grime - this killer platter makes no bones about their obsession with the tech-
stepping ballistics of jungle and drum and bass; which is also an overlooked aspect of Diagonal's raving make-up, along with all the other stuff like No Wave, Mika Vainio, and nerve riding techno that they effortlessly work into these cuts. Let's just say we've got common interests.
On Dread Risk the duo splice the stem Jungle cells with urgent, incomprehensible yelps of what sounds like a punk tussling for the mic mid-set at Rage during a Dillinja and Digital b2b, '96.
Basically it's Raime doing jungle, FFS. And it's worth it just for the last 30 seconds of that metallic delay. Come. Again.U Eff O o.t.o.h. is probably the darkest track on the label, give or take. It's a proper , heads down, end-of-the-pipe roller , catching the duo at their most paranoia-inducing and pensive, like some mythical follow-up to Ed Rush + Optical's Alien Girl dubbed by Hatcha and Kode 9. Then again; it's another killer Yally tune.Diagonal is blessed to release such a belter of a record, and finally cross the trajectories that Raime and the label embarked upon, respectively, over five years ago.

Leaving unwarranted hype to others - the London/Manchester based imprint 'Reflektion/Tapes' are not messing around when it comes to their remarkably promising debut vinyl. Catalogued as 'RTAPES001', it features a collaboration of Von D with Mizz Beats and Mr Lager respectively. The renowned, french heavyweight has a plethora of releases on highly regarded labels like Trojan Audio, GetDarker, Infernal Sounds, Khaliphonic & Scrub A Dub among others. If this were not enough, Deep Medi signee Mizz Beats, who's already collaborated with the likes of Roots Manuva and Silkie, has been back in the studio, pairing up on the A-Side with Von D for an unquestionably passionate musical work of art. On the flip the B-Side is a clear statement to the synergetic nature of Von D and Mr. Lager's joint effort - effortlessly topping off this release.

Commencing with the much sought after 'Dot Compulsion', bell-like chimes reflect off playful lead melodies, leaving room for tape-delay trails floating away to soulful chords. A tastefully saturated bass joins its correlating 2-Step/Garage groove, rejoicing along an emotive ride. It then proceeds to evolve into a straight pulse, steadily rolling along, plastered with silky vocal snippets and captivating harmonic, at times granular, soundscapes.

A highly differing brew of vibrations can be felt from Mr. Lager & Von D's 'Some Other Place'. The B-Side sees us diving back down into the shadows. Initialising itself with an incredibly ponderous kick drum, complimented by sparsely used spring reverberations and twirling echo trails - introducing more dubstep-oriented accents. What follows is an airy, spaced out sub workout, accompanied by menacingly tight percussive hits from start to finish, guaranteed to test sound systems & leave chests rattling.

After a flurry of releases over the past 4 years for the likes of Deep Medi, Zam Zam Sounds, Danse Noir, and most recently for Discrepant with his acclaimed long-form abstraction "Ghost Tapes," El Mahdy Jr. returns to Boomarm Nation for an anticipated follow up to his internationally praised and sought-after 2013 debut LP "The Spirit of Fucked Up Places'.With "Time to Sell the Golden Teeth," El Mahdy Jr. continues where he left off with an evolving palette of rough hewn-beats unburdened by genre constraints, thick atmospherics, and a very deep and dubwise center of gravity. Drawing from the sounds of his cultural background, and the daily grind of living in an increasingly loud and hostile capitalist world, the sounds presented here display the deft evolution of an ambitious young beat maker and experimentalist into a poised, focused, and selfless artist who places his emphasis on the emotion and energy of sound and place over the wild self importance of being an "artist".

Based in California, Banana Stand Sound has been wrecking expectations and setting forth new musical streams consistently for two years now. Its discography is a diverse display of tribal stompers, melodic groove spectacles and everything in between, which excites the label's unarguably exquisite taste. Over the years they've gained steady advocacy from institutions such as FatKidOnFire and TRUSIK among others, as well as by a long list of highly esteemed DJ's and producers from the likes of J:Kenzo, Benga, Compa, Skream and Joe Nice. Undoubtedly true to their promise of delivering bass, the fifth instalment of their series is another stellar foray into uncharted territory of musical expression. Residing in the realms of global bass music, the imprint has released music originating from USA, Canada, Japan and lastly UK. As the catalogue number dictates, the record is featuring five producers, all aligned in their sense for pushing musical boundaries. The resulting lunacy deserves to be heard by connoisseurs around the world.

FAV004 is finally upon us and it comes courtesy of L.A based Cheyne Taylor Bush A.K.A Tetrad who has been on fire recently, fresh off the back of an inspired and well received ZamZam release last year. Here he is joined by brother Dillon Bush A.K.A Ahkur on opener "Ashes Fall", a seriously dark piece of music and possibly Tetrads heaviest production to date. An eerie intro with a haunting vocal sample drop into an assault of pure dubstep pressure which is sure to ignite dance floors the world over.
Flip side "Crumble" is a more stripped back affair with a nod to the classic sounds of dub with its delayed snares, skanks and FX. What really sets this tune apart though is the overwhelming power of the sub, with a weight-line so devastating it could crumble cities let alone the dance!Here brothers Tetrad and Ahkur have succeeded in providing an outstanding plate, absolutely brimming with sound system material in its purest form. Essential.

FKA twigs re-issues her debut release, 'EP1'. Originally released in December 2012, the incredibly rare EP was previously only available as a (long sold out) limited edition vinyl release, accompanied by a video for each song created by FKA twigs and Grace Ladoja. 'EP1' was the start of FKA twigs' incredible journey as a musician and performer.
Since its release the London-based singer, songwriter, producer, director and dancer has produced a series of highly-acclaimed works, including the follow up 'EP2', her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album 'LP1', the five song 'M3LL155X' EP and accompanying film and the recently-premiered 'Soundtrack 7' and 'Baltimore Dance Project' films.
In addition, FKA twigs has directed, soundtracked and starred in campaigns for the likes of Google Glass and Calvin Klein.

May 7th will see the inaugural release on Warm Records with a limited 10'' EP from Face + Heel. The label is but the latest extension of the Warm brand, which has been a mainstay on the London club scene for many years now. This year will see three releases on the label, all by Cardiff duo, Face + Heel. The first EP will be released on May 7th, with two tracks featured on the vinyl release (No Stars and One Hundred Years Deep), with an accompanying digital bonus track (Draggin' Your Chains).

Face + Heel consists of Luke Taylor and Sinead McMillan, whose first meeting (via Soundcloud) in early Spring 2011, followed by an eventual real-life encounter through a mutual friend, triggered an instant musical bond as the pair realised their mutual appreciation of Ricardo Villalobos, Laurie Anderson and Bill Evans (who Sinead still claims Luke is the spitting image of). Sinead's background in classical composition and her interest in live soundscapes sat well with Luke's career as a sound designer, song writer, and studio engineer, and brought an interesting mix of influences to bear on what has been an already fruitful creative partnership. Over three EP's on Warm Records in 2012, the Face + Heel universe will be presented to the world.

dancefloor sensibilities of whipped drum beats and heavy bass with the soundscapes of a John Carpenter movie. A natural
progression in the evolution and development of Bass music, "The Zone" brilliantly fuses the power of raw cinematic grooves with the
sophistication and lushness of a film score to devastating effect, making it both contemporary yet timeless.
On the AA side are two totally different tracks that still fit the Black Gold ethos of powerful bass driven electronica/dance music
"Rodeo" has a rocking groove that is D-I-R-T-Y and is just begging for hot summer nights and heaving dancefloors. The hooks just
dig in and take you with them on a bucking bronco ride that will leave you battered and bruised and wanting more.....4 minutes just
isn't long enough!
Bringing you down with a more minimalist bump, the last track is "Krystal Visions". Bootlegged to much acclaim (as ever) by Skream
last year, this is a fine piece of sparse techno, full of glitchy metallic stabs that home in on your aural receptors, ready for battle.
However understated atmospherics like echoes from "The Zone" soften the blows, making this a really wonderful piece of spartan
techno.

Manchester producer Anz' self-titled debut comes at the crest of two years' scenewide hype around her breathless brand of UK club music. Also the maiden release from local club night-cum-label Chow Down, the record is as much informed by Anz' time as the night's most in-demand resident DJ as by her instincts in the studio.These are tracks shaped by a good few encounters with Manchester's roiling 2 A.M. crowds. This isn't to suggest a uniform sound - Anz' ear for interplay brings her many influences together in sprawling constellations of style. Jolting to life on the Bassline- and Funky-referencing steel percussion romp "Panrico", the record then slows to a half-time 808 lurch on "Clanger". The flip sees "Loa" flex dense polyrhythms and coarse Sublow bass before "Fencin" brings it home in a final flourish of crystalline synthwork.

Abstract Elements return to one of the founders of the Autonomic movement with two tracks that are a continuation of what shaped their stripped back, minimal approach to Autonomic and later what would be known as Microfunk'.

Abstract Elements have released on labels such as Exit, ASC's Auxiliary and recently for Noisia's Invisible imprint.

Nedostatic and Right Way are what you would expect from such talented producers, with both attention to detail and precision execution in their dynamics.

The Moonshine Recordings crew happily kicks off 2017 confidently by continuing its search for the finest dub-oriented bass music created by musicians from around the globe. This time the Polish flagship proudly welcomes Portland's Alter Echo and E3 - a duo that has been on everyone's watch list within dub/post-dubstep/soundsystem culture for over a decade. Their contribution to Moonshine catalogued as 'MS029', contains three chants that are vocally blessed by the Russian rootsman/dub purist Tenor Youthman. Together they unravel their dedication to dub music and the Marijuana plant that calls for international peace and unity.The producers Alter Echo and E3, more commonly abbreviated as 'AEE3', are notorious for their sonic booms and thick layers of smokey atmospheres that align at various tempos. Their iconical dubbing and analogue mixing aesthetics have allowed their music to resonate as artists in soundsystem culture. Together they strive to deliver dub of mesmerizing excellence and to champion sound. Tenor Youtman joins their magnificent styling, a Russian soundsystem pioneer who brings the message of love and consciousness across lands. His love for spreading knowledge and heavy bass goes beyond borders, with the help of his microphone.'Mary Jane' contains nothing but special sonics that will intoxicate listeners with a unifying sense of vibrations. Tenor Youthman's immediately grabs the microphone to uplift and inspire, while this dubstep-oriented production by AEE3 calls for a tenacious experience through sound. The more conscious-expanding Dub version of the title track uncovers the majestic sound the two dub magicians from Portland process and transmission vibrantly. Bass pressure that jumps off the walls of the hazy basements is felt from afar, an impact of anthemic oscillations that will stick to fans of dub music will stick for a while. The darker angle of 'Wolves' mesmerizes and overwhelms, fueling you with dread and darkness from the PDX area - and it's these sought-after dub plates that were bound to see the light of day on the trusted Moonshine Recordings.

Following the massive success of Another night Stepart is back on Stand High Records with his debut LP Playground takes listeners on a deep bass journey and presents exclusive tracks crafted with the Parisian producer's subtle mixing technique and attention to detail. Recorded between 2014 and 2016 the LP is a tribute to the golden era of dub influenced dubstep with ten instrumental tracks as well as a vocal by Pupajim. After Violinbwoy's successful Mono County twelver and Moonshine's tight collaboration with Steppas Records, the imprint is ready to march on and announce its next 12 inch coloured vinyl release waiting in line.

Appearing for the first time on Instagram in 2014, POORGRRRL is the culmination of the Miami based artist Tara Long's worst dreams and best nightmares. As an online identity or IRL, POORGRRRL challenges viewers and listeners with convoluted lyrics and a lo-fi "fuck it" demeanor. She presents an alternative personality to pop culture, appropriating it where she must. She is on a quest to save Miami, her birthplace and home, from it's own reputation, before it goes underwater.
In October 2015, shortly after her premier performance at iii Points Music Festival, she released "Triptic," an 11-minute music video, ending with the single "we Trashy." It ignited a debate amongst YouTube and Reddit users over the artistic validity of the work. The critics such as, Go Fu ck Yourself, pointed out the obvious, describing it as "garbage," while defenders used hash tags such as #hatersdontgetit and #futureofmusic to describe the video.
During Art Basel 2015 in Miami (December), after appearing on the cover of the Miami New Times Art Basel edition, she installed audio/visual work at the "Littlest Sisters Art Fair" (Spinello Projects), and performed alongside Shamir at The New Contemporary Art Museum (ICA). In 2016, she has performed at the International Noise Conference in Miami, Okeechobee Music Festival and alongside Le1f.
Her debut EP, "PITIPARTI", is a collection of her work so far, preceding a full-length set for release in the near future.

Since their last release (Plata's 'Kru' EP CRWL001), London based Circadian Rhythms has evolved into a concept label - a collaboration between NTS radio grime favourites Last Japan & Blackwax, fashion designer William Green, artist Dylan Tushar and designer Jase Coop. The collective challenges our understanding of what makes a record label by exploring music through the creation of physical and non-physical objects. Each musical output is to have its own specific collection of clothing, alongside artwork, video and mini site. As a result it's more than a record / clothing label, but a creative collective whose different interpretations of a single theme are executed under the same umbrella. The first artist to collaborate with the label in its new format is Toasty, who has been drawn out of his hiatus (amidst growing demand) with the brilliant 'Metal' EP. Often described as one of the most important producers of the Dubstep era, Toasty's warped basslines, breaks and hard hitting snares predicted a lot of music to come. With past releases on Scuba's Hotflush - amongst many others, this is a welcomed return from the mysterious and celebrated producer.

Kokeshi chooses rising star of deep dubstep, Compa for the follow-up to 2012's epic Kompilation CD and sampler. What can be seen
from Compa on Kokeshi is the atmospheric qualities of his music both within the realm of dubstep and well outside of it. The
unexpected A side is a beatless beauty, the perfect intro tune, whilst the AA side is the essential meditative subby dancefloor tune
that will keep the speakers booming.

Swindle completes his 'Trilogy of Funk' series with the 'Purple Walls' EP recorded in LA last summer. He is joined by soul singer Daley and regular collaborator Terri Walker on his first record of 2017. It is a full departure from his 140 bpm previous outings on Deep Medi & Butterz, but still retains his signature style he has been honing over the last ten years. The previous EP's 'Connecta' and 'Funk & Grime' have long sold out, and the final edition won't stick around long either.

The UK-based imprint Unity Through Sound, founded in late 2016, has already been declared a household name in the contemporary bass music scene, and that with good reason. Their already- sold-out debut record by spirited Headland (NZ) has been taking great strides in the scene, rattling bodies left and right. Clearly demonstrating the labels skillful aptitude towards releasing firey material at just the right time. Bringing forth nothing but pure, condensed amalgamations of weight and groove. Keeping the spotlight on their side after a short breather, they're now back with another weighty vengeance - mighty Chad Dubz at the controls for the second installment, catalogued as 'UNITY002' Based in Bristol, the 'Foundation Audio' label owner Chad Dubz knows his way around bass. Also having released on imprints like Cue Line, Indigo Movements, Hold Tight Records, the man is perfectly aware of the specifics of relentlessly unleashing highly regarded material from time to time again. Further embedding the claim, he's already been on the airwaves on prestigious formats like Rinse FM, Radar Radio and GetDarker TV, as well as the renowned Sub FM among others.
Lowering the turntable stylus on Side A, the listener is met with sparsely layed out hats, reeling in the attention as eerie thumps reverberate, making way for the sound of a match being lighted. The sound is then set ablaze, furiously being pushed forward through its deep-rooted sub routine. Its foundation is accompanied by the odd, but carefully selected foley sample, echoeing away alongside the exquisite feast for ears and body. Aptly named 'Drained', feeling it on a big rig, will definitely leave us gasping for air and grasping for steady ground. The same has to be said for the B-Side, as we're flipping the record, the listener is met with dubbier inclinations through use of catchy organ chord staccati and rastafari-esque vocal ramblings - all the while preserving every ounce of weight. UK-based Chad Dubz goes all out with his EP, discharging two authoritative full- body-experiences. Needless to say, the release can safely be expected to sell out rather sooner than later, so make sure not to miss the pre-order. A hot record for the lovers of bass weight.

After months of preparations, the UK based label Unity Through Sound is proud to step forward and announce its existence. Darren Underhill, the head honcho (that goes under the 'Sound Unknown' alias) of the newly established imprint, aims to bring unique artists and their refreshing take on dub and roots influenced bass music straight to vinyl.

The imprint introduces its vinyl-only operation, catalogued as 'UNITY001', with cuts from the New Zealander 'Headland'. The producer & DJ has caused great uproar the past two years with his distinct sound that contains the raw, loose DMZ-esque aesthetics from back in the day.

He has been able to deliver his twisted take on haunting tones, bass weight exercises and personal insanity on respected labels such as FatKidOnFire, Well Rounded Records and Deep Dark & Dangerous. This all, with much more on the horizon, will follow from the kiwi soon. Make sure to keep an eye on a rising talent from six feet below.

Headland's first blastoff 'Tapescho' is all about distorted reality caused by a manic bassline, which floats on an evil bed of ghost-esque shapes. Together they rule the sediment of this creepy crawler, which escalates into a trance-inducing affaire that will strike the unheard. The producer continues to let you lose your mind with the help of B-side 'Midnight Drive', which hits you from a slightly different angle. Although there are other ingredients present, it'll slowly drive you off a cliff. Careful listeners will identify unheard tones that'll cause nausea and paranoia. Watch out: The producer does what he does best to unleash his wholehearted mind games.

Unity Through Sound is ready to build on the right foundation of dub and roots influenced bass music in order to push its sound to higher grounds. With Headland being its first signee, it hopefully sets the tone in order for you to follow the label's progressive intelligence.

Outstanding and miraculous, this record is an international effort, resulting in a great combination, relevant for both bagging it or playing out on a soundsystem. The original music is by one of Russia's most prolific and gifted reggae musicians - Rebelsteppa. Melodic instrumental music, a swing-stepper with a saxophone.

None Shall Escape the Judgement', vocals by Stikki Tantafari from Jamaica is on the A side of the record. This song is rough and tough, dynamic and persistent. Stikki Tantafari has previously released music with Paul Lush on Nucleus Roots Records.

On the B side "Give Unto Jah' by Sista Sherin, the German singer. Compared to the record's first side, this one is smoother, the voice of this young lady is glorious and captivating - positive vibrations.

Both sides feature Rebelsteppa's dub-mixes - His style is always a mixture of classical energy combined with peculiar intelligence of sound given by restrained echoes, created for the soundsystem.

Hear Other Sounds returns with a collaborative EP from their collective of artists. The EP is the first physical release from the South London imprint since the label was established in 2012. Over four years in the planning, the record showcases the range of styles that have since become synonymous with the label. Scalade and Nights collaborate on 'Stasis', pushing the wave sound with their dark but melodic offering. It combines a haunting depth of synth work with intricate levels of percussion. Second on the A-side is Seattle native Charlux, bringing his cross-Atlantic approach to Grime. The crisp contribution, 'Chanel Handbag', is a sharpened piece of work which manages to be deep and cavernous whilst full of upfront energy. Fresh Paul comes with the first track on the B-side, Janet Again'. The Scottish artist's sample use induces memories of the darker forays into 90's hip-hop and gives the project a raw edge. South coast producer, J-One finishes off the release with a trademark two-step rhythm, well thought out synths and an intelligent melody.
