Henry & Louis Featuring Prince Green - Love Like

2 Kings steps forward with a pair of fresh remixes from two of the scene's leading lights Pinch and RSD. Both adding there unique signature sounds to 'Love Like' (taken from the Henry and Louis LP 'Increments') but approached from different angles. Rob Smith (RSD) and Pinch are an integral part of 2 Kings, with Rob Smith being with label since its inception and Pinch previously remixing 'Rise Up' and 'Answer' both to critical acclaim. Pinch this time has delivered a tough brooding 4/4 workout, menacing bass rips with deep heavy subs underpin the groove around the relentless heartbeat of the kick. RSD comes in with a dub garage twist on the original, the rolling 2 step beat punctuated with breaks and shots of synth and bass, building to the release of the sub slewing bassline. The haunting vocals warn of 'changing moods and dangerous' as the music evolves over the meditative movement of the sub bass. Drawing on sounds of all ages of dub and bass music, its a masterclass of melding influence and knowledge of sound-system rave culture since its beginnings.

Huerco S - No Jack Ep

Our new release has a particular importance in the history of Wicked Bass, being incidentally both the latest and the first to appear on vinyl. The four-track record comes from our long-time favorite KC wunderkind, Huerco S., who evidently grasps his inspiration from literally everywhere, be it UK Hardcore, pitched down American vibes, or even modern art. Scoring No Jack EP with three original tracks and a remix by the US scene's fresh discovery, Braille (who is coincidentally 'one half' behind Sepalcure), as his first physical release, Huerco S. embarks on a far-lying journey with even more to come. The opening and title track, 'No Jack', basically sets the mood for the entire record with its slow-paced tempo, deep chords, soul-touching processed repeated vocal samples, spacey pads, reverb claps and an unorthodox bassline. Needless to say, all of these paradoxically sum up to an absolute dancefloor slayer, which is followed on the same side by 'Bypass', a nearly beatless, obviously difficult to repeat and surprisingly haunting work of art that stays in the minds of listeners for good. Flip the record, and you find yourself absolutely startled by 'Untitled', a more simple and common for Huerco S. piece of production with easy-going vocals, yet unbelievable in its perfection — especially considering the Chords (only with a capital letter) that appear towards the end; making you want to listen to it from beginning till end over and over again. What is left for 'dessert' is the long-awaited psychological re-interpretation of the above from Braille, who takes us 'deep, deep, even deeper', as sung in a popular house track, while reanimating the song, masterfully changing its mood and making it more optimist by adding some of his trademark displaced beats, and re-working the pads, synths, vocals in a manner in which Larry Heard would back in the days. The concept behind our long-awaited very first record is clear, and judging from the reaction we have already received, it will most likely please all kinds of audience, be it the bass heads, Chicago house lovers or even disco spinners. For the lack of better words, however, we'll leave it up to you to decide whether you will listen to it intimately at home or destroy the nearest dancefloor by dropping it in the right moment. Support from: Neville Watson, Locked Groove, Throwing Snow, Hackman

Ill Blu return to Hyperdub for their second single with 'Clapper', which contrasts deceptively swinging claps and funky but martial drums with crazy pitched up and down synth stabs and shrieks that sound like psychotically angry birds. It's an incredibly infectious and energising club banger that manages to retain its swagger without losing its sense of humour. On the flip, West Chicago's juke and footwork veteran Traxman takes the bpm up to 160 with his energetic mix, which takes the mood darker, switching from 4 / 4 kicks to 808 electro claps, with jittery punched-in stabs giving the track a nervous energy.

Jay 5ive N Kromestar - Deepest Fears / Backwoods

The pairing of Jay 5ive & Kromestar have birthed a number of exquisite tracks; and as they grow and perfect their studio presence together this has become apparent in their new work, their third release BNL003 sets the scene for an exciting time for bass music and opens the doors for more enjoyable experimentation. Deepest Fears: An orchestral choir sings out while weird and wonderful synths flutter and float around the mix. An equally unnatural and charismatic bass line moves in and out of an excitable hat arrangement. As the ghostly haunts of the Choir return they're joined by new melodic content and the introduction of additional percussion opens a whole new dimension and exciting chapter to what seems like a book which may have multiple outcomes. Backwoods: Enter the 404, kick and claps, as Backwoods tips it's hat at the early 90's west coast hip hop era, an assortment of pads and melodies create an eerie atmosphere as bouncy bass establishment the theme, unorthodox strings and sweeps unite together to compliment subtle synth harmonies.

Jimmy Edgar - Majenta Cd

After a two-year break, Detroit producer and wayward star-child Jimmy Edgar debuts on Scuba's Hotflush Recordings armed with an album full of futuristic sleaze. Known for his unique take on jacking house and electro funk, he's recently been splitting his time between the US and Berlin, exploring transcendental meditation and the boundaries of the non-physical. This offering is an extension of that journey, bringing eleven tracks of erotic robo-pop to the table. Titled Majenta, this LP is a departure from his past sound, marking a shift in his own ever-expanding consciousness, as well as another exciting chapter of his musical career. Each track is an aural manifesto, giving well-deserved nods to his varied musical influences. Close encounters with Detroit legends Derrick May and Juan Atkins, Jimmy's 2004 signing to Warp Records, and his early exposure to Kraftwerk have all acted as lynchpins in the cultivation of his sound. With a number of releases on Glasstable, Semantica, Nonplus and long player releases on both Warp and !K7, Majenta reflects Jimmy's evolution as both artist and child of the cosmos. According to Edgar, the making of the album was steeped in countless synchronicities, continuously reminding him he was on the right path. In contrast with his last LP, XXX, for !K7, which took five years to make, Majenta is more raw, more spontaneous and in his words, 'more futuristic ... than my other music, which played a lot with retro, especially R&B.' From the outset, Jimmy's flexing his Kraftwerkian muscle, with vocoder complimenting his own unadulterated voice and '80s synthlines bubbling away alongside jazz-funk keyboard riffs. From the raunchy and sexually explicit 'Take Me on a Sex Drive' ('windows down, legs up high') to the low-lit, hypnotic feel of 'Attempt to Make it Last', to the UK garage rhythms of 'Let Yrself Be', to the Kiss-era Prince vibe of 'I Need Your Control', it's clear that the postmodern is Edgar's domain. The Frampton-esque vocals of 'In Deep' close out the LP and further cement his enviable place in the intergalactic community. Spring/Summer 2012 will see Jimmy playing a number of live shows across Europe and the US in support of Majenta (including major festivals such as Glade, UK), as well as his continued exploration into the world of LEDs and synchronized light technology.

Joss Ryan - Melancholy Dreams

You know a producer has got something when the first note of the first track you hear makes you sit up and take notice. So it is with 19-year-old East Londoner Joss Ryan: the instant the jabbing orchestral motif at the beginning of 'Melancholy Dreams' - the title track of his debut EP - kicks in, it hits your emotional centres hard and lodges in your memory. As statements of intent go, it's a pretty tasty one, and tells you that this is a talent who can stand out and make an impact way beyond the ins and outs of the micro-genres and endlessly reconfiguring trends of underground music. To put it simply: Joss is a grime kid who expanded his horizons. . His popular mix of his own material for Mary Anne Hobbs's radio show last December already shows that the three tracks on this EP are by no means a fluke, and there's a whole lot more to come besides...

Kritical Audio - Katacomb

Detroit Underground put out wildly variant musical styles on their label, from minimal to house, techno and electro - they certainly can't be genre pigeon-holed! This release comes from Swedish duo Kritical Audio and spans through the aforementioned genres and at moments even into dubstep, breaks and D&B territory. Moody, mind-tripping journeys are intricately created on Katacomb through eerie synths, deep glitchy 303 basslines and arresting electro rhythms. "Bugsmasher" rides electro punches and pounding 303s while the title track finds itself with a low slung, dubstep feeling. "Oceans 1300" meanwhile explores yet another route with emotive synths and tight percussion, while the spaced out atmospherics of "Taipei" round off an excellent 12".

Over the past couple of years, Manchester-based producer Lone (a.k.a. Matt Cutler) has become a fully fledged reinvention of his former self. Leaving behind the hip-hop seasoned abstraction and hazy beatscapes of his notable Ecstasy & Friends and Lemurian albums for a quicker-paced sound that draws on a much heavier Chicago house / Detroit Techno and early 90's London rave/hardcore sound. With his last album proper Emerald Fantasy Tracks & last year's R&S debut Coreshine Voodoo, we saw a honing of these styles.  Continuing his ethereal journey through space and time where these previous two outings left off, new album Galaxy Garden - that you will hopefully have in your ears right now - is without doubt his most complete body of work to date.

Numa Crew come through on the second release for White Peach, a label set up to push producers that understand how to create music with incredible technical detail, riveting synthesis and perfect low end. To go against the grain, White Peach felt there was a clear lack of innovation within the scene and this can be seen by the saturation in the digital market place with 100's of releases a week. There is an explosion of generic bass music and White Peach use a combination of detailed quality control, talented artists and peaches, to have an input in improving the quality of dance floor music within this scene. After the success of the first release from Culprate which was supported by Inspector Dubplate, Asa, Koan Sound & Gemini, Numa Crew bring three tracks reigning from three different genres. Numa Crew is a group of producers based in Florence, Italy, they have had over six releases on Elastica and own the well known bootleg label called Erba. 'Feeling Macaco' has been a prominent track within the Uk Funky scene and the demand for a VIP mix was warranted. 'Infama' was produced by Lapo and features Ninjaz and Charlie Dakilo on vocals, making this track like the Italians version of Newham Generals' 'Hard'. Solid support from all Rood FM DJs and several plays on Rinse FM has already created a stir within the scene for this massive white label release.

October & Borai - I Didnt Mean To / Palmarosa

October has been releasing bass driven music from broken dubstep to jacking minimal house since 2003. Having established himself with his own Caravan imprint, and a gig schedule that regularly takes in Fabric, Robert Johnson, Bunker NYC, Cookies & Horst he is now heading up Tanstaafl a collaboration with respected Berlin based DJ Jon Osborn and has killer releases lined up on Skudge's own label and Will Saul's Simple. Borai has been a respected DJ for many years in Bristol, and can be found working behind the counter of one of the only 2nd hand record shops left in Bristol, Prime Cuts. He also works at Dub Studio the Bristol based dub-cutting house that has been making waves with their special vinyl dubplates. Together they make full use of the analogue synths and outboard effects in October's studio. With the beautiful melodic sensibility of Borai's synth lines meshing with Octobers jacking body beats, they fuse to create 2 sublime slices of warm, deep, but propulsive blends of slo-mo house, techno, & bass. 'I Didn't Mean To' has a Detroit techno soul feel with Bukem style bass stabs and rainforest jungle ambient noises, whilst 'Palmarosa' is a sure-fire set starter, taking it's time to build with cavernous bass stabs adding drama until the heads down jacking ensues.
