Wavy and snaky synthwork over a fast think-break pattern and a ravy bassline, no less of a banger here. The end is surely near, to finish up BERG-JAÄR drops a bassy polyrhythmic manoeuvre, the attention is focused on the complexity of drums and a minimalistic and grooving approach throughout the track. The second release on Club Qu Records is a pure sheller of an EP from two longtime friends with a mutual love for UK future sounds. Anthea, ancient greek for ,,blossom" is referring to Thrived as a concept of mutual growth. Cconsisting of four tracks threaded together by rolling percussive sounds and breaks. emphasis on live instrumentaton, crucial to transmitng a rich energy on the tracks.
Hailing from London, Tyson has been building a keen following with his live gigs and DJ sets, including a sell-out live show at the Jazz Cafe featuring Eva Lazarus and Dele Sosimi on vocals. The new release on Soundway refects his steady progression towards sophistcated producton and collaboratve processes, as well as his ability to efortlessly cross multple genres.

Introducing Cutcross, created to champion the melting pot of bass-centric sounds teetering around 140 bpm. Heading up the concept is Sicaria Sound, a DJ duo who since their inception set out to explore and expand on the possibilities of these sounds whilst spotlighting underground artists. Cutcross is therefore their next step in supporting the forward-thinking music that they've drawn for when curating sets.

"CXT001: With The Fracture" is a nod to some of the sounds that started off each of their relationships with raves, later helping soundtrack many of the dances they went to together once their friendship began. Narcissist's second release on their own label continues from where it started - four unique tracks that run between the down-right weird to tracky and peak time club music. Each track totally different yet a thread runs through all letting you know the same hands and ears made the music. The pair (Marc Ashken & Rob Bradley) jam with synths, drum machines, samplers and mic's until a track comes to light and is then recorded live, sometimes straight into zoom recorder, not a laptop. Edits, vocals and layers are then added as and if required. 

T3 is straight up club music and hooky as hell. T4 is reminiscent their previous track Key - a DnB/Electro cross-over that sounds killer on the dancefloor and isn't like much else out there. T1 samples a harp which builds and builds over complex breaks and chopped up vox. It's an intense workout. Finally, like many good club tracks the final track on the EP, Maz Baz, features a pitched down 100 year old Irish vocal. Hooked in and around broken beats it has a dance floor destroying low sub and a high pitched whistle cutting through it all. Quite mad.

Amsterdam producer Kaap steps forward on his own De Lichting imprint with three twisted jams of deep and playful techno. The passionate gearhead, known for his dubby takes on house and techno, started his Working Titles playground back in 2017 by running a niche cassette outlet Yield on the side. In late 2018 he merged into the prolific De Lichting collective and is a frequent guest on Indigo Aera's AEX series. After many years of hard work, Kaap's new solo EP is surfacing, and it's worth the wait. Over the course of three tracks, Kaap shows high levels of creativity. The first track 'Razor' is a bouncy bass wobbler, its rubbery acid lines and crispy percussion make it an ideal party starter. Title track 'Omen' reaches for deeper grounds, a deep and murky groover enlightened by tactical bleepy rhythms. Kaap's love for dub-techno triumphs on the lengthy b-side as a closer on this EP. With over ten minutes of hazy atmospheres and mesmerizing pads, it builds and builds towards the rolling fields of euphoria.

This Saturday Musique Pour La Danse invites you to rock your body and free your mind with Break The Limits at Marshgate Lane, for a fourth EP celebrating the pivotal work of the visionary duo composed of Bay B Kane and Mister E.

Together, they produced some of the most innovative music of the era, a blueprint for the emerging warehouse / hardcore / breakbeat scene in the UK. After three reissues focusing on their 1990 output, Musique Pour La Danse takes you back to 1991.

Picture this: a low ceiling sweating red brick basement somewhere far, far away at Marshgate Lane, where multicolored lasers, turbosound, wacky dancers are all part and parcel of the ecstatic rush.

With one track per side, remastered and cut loud at 45RPM, this faithful reissue of the sought-after PARANOIZE EP is keeping it old school.

On the MAD (A) side, Paranoize is an Amen break driven banger, where swirling 303s and samples of a proto horror-core persuasion. In 30 years, the track hasn't lost an ounce of its potency and is still an irresistible invitation to rave.

On the BAD (B) side, The Thinker is a deeper cut, led by a broken beat where synthetic voices, melodic leads, and a rave piano form a lush tapestry of sound that is both highly danceable and full of emotion.

First Word Records are very proud to present a heavyweight EP in collaboration with seminal groove collective, CoOp: 'Selectors Assemble'.

It's been almost two decades since a bunch of music makers, bored of the genre constraints of their time, began toying with time signature and syncopation to birth what is now known as broken beat. Summer 2017, the 'Selectors Assemble' EP is in our laps and we have a fitting reminder and long-overdue renaissance of one of London's most valuable musical movements.

IG Culture and Alex Phountzi were integral to this movement, the focal point being the CoOp club night, which ran predominantly on the famed floors of Plastic People, up until 2007. CoOp remerged late in 2015 as a Boiler Room session, in which the originators linked effortlessly with new school players such as K15 and Alex Nut. The following day, a session was inspired between an assortment of artists, and the seeds were planted for the 'Selectors Assemble'.

Here we have the first offering. The steady-paced roller of 'Gangz' (IG & Seiji), the dutty wine-ready getdown of Henry Wu's 'Substance', the heads-down low-end theory of '2nd Intention', the dominant soundclash call-out of the 'Spartan Riddim', riding out with the garage-flecked jam 'Can't Hold It', also featuring Sonar's Ghost (Domu). Five tracks deeply rooted in groove and as beautifully diverse as Bruk ever was.

Pressed up lovingly onto 140g vinyl, this release is accompanied with a fully-printed insert, featuring an extensive piece on the history of Bruk, written by Andwot (Touching Bass), classic photography by Sarah Ginn, and full-colour artwork by Mitchy Bwoy, a legendary artist to the original scene in his own right. This is an essential artefact for followers of the sound, new and old.

First Word prides itself on its ethos of musical diversity, and we're ecstatic to welcome aboard the CoOp foundation to the stable. A crew of British dance music pioneers, sound-system legends, and now-school heavyweights, this is but a taste of what's to come. Lead by the don IG Culture, the family spirit has quickly formed, the selectors have assembled.

The cleverly structured ambient and melodically complex ‘Strimsang Baecon4’is reminiscent of early Aphex Twin with pure electronic bliss whilst ‘Sunday Multi Acid Seq20d’ is a strong finish to the EP delving deeper within the realms of electro and acid techno.

'sketches of transition' comes off the back of Wildblood's most recent, critically acclaimed 'Grab The Wheel' EP, which saw him experiment further from his signature jazz-infused sound to explore more classic 90's-tinged sounds, from deep melodic garage to atmospheric Chicago house, and even reverb-soaked dub techno. As well as an impressive back catalogue of single & EP releases, he is the head of celebrated labels Church, Coastal Haze and all my thoughts, and regularly plays at festivals and in clubs across the continents.

As Wildblood's relationship with the dancefloor has revved up, so has his own personal story -- and that of being an artist in 2019. Those moments of evolution and experience have helped influence what's a deeply personal debut record, whose organic textures and soulful musicality reflect change in the face of an ever-evolving world. 'sketches of transition' was written over the course of two years, during a period of new beginnings, emotional endings, and moments of personal loss. What we're left with are ten tracks that reflect life's winding journey.

Album cuts like 'one for malcolm' are servings of soothing ambient that feature the melodic touch Wildblood is known for. Charming vocals enter the mix on 'amelia feat. mauv' and 'ghostie', a piece of pacey deep house with oft-collaborator Buddy Love. 'small talk' will evoke familiarity towards some of Wildblood's early, cherished house records, with their twinkling synth arpeggios and warm atmospheres. Other moments throughout the LP turn towards more experimental broken beat, flexing Wildblood's refusal to be pinned down to a specific vibe.

With previous support from the likes of Bonobo, Mary Anne Hobbs, and Move D, 'sketches of transition' finds Wildblood coming to terms with the past to accept new beginnings and uncharted territories. All the while, we're transported to our own personal place of calm, wherever that may be. "Music is a way of escape for me, I want the listener to be able to use this record as a form of escape too," says Wildblood. “I guess I’ve had a sudden realization of how transient life can be. I hope the record captures this in some way. Sonically it’s dynamic, constantly shifting however there’s an undercurrent that remains the same throughout the whole piece. Each track on the record focuses on and is inspired by a moment in time. “amelia” was written on the day my first niece Amelia was born. The idea of the track is to serve as a unique time capsule for her. I think it's fair to say I struggle with anxiety and I find it difficult to be completely in the moment. It's something I'm working on, but whilst making this record I was completely in the moment.”

Experimental A/V duo. It's live-sets are pure dark distorsion and deconstruction sound. Avant-Garde, non-art, chaos and tension are the main references of this project. Broken rhythms, sharp sounds, dissonances make up the main musical spectrum of this band.

Influenced by Electro and Industrial music, inspired by artists such as Ultradyne, Hijokaidan, Merzbow, Drexciya, Consumer Electronics, Throbbing Gristle, Dopplereffekt or Esplendor Geometrico. They just realised their first EP called math.random() in Rator Mute label.

Written way back in 1999, this untitled Voy-E EP was released in 2000 only as an extremely limited white label promo, before the original label shut down and its full release was cancelled. Due to its scarcity and the quality of the tracks, prices skyrocketed while the release remained an enigma. After spending months trying to track down whoever was behind the record, a very delayed response came from over LinkedIn (of all places - one of many methods tried) simply saying “what you wanna know?” followed by a US phone number. This finally led to unravelling the mystery behind the release.

Both Voye and the original label owner, James B Boggs, had no idea that the EP was so in demand and were absolutely stoked about doing a reissue. They both live in North Carolina and left the music industry behind nearly two decades ago, so it means a lot to them that people are still enjoying their work.

The EP is a product of the Florida Breakbeat scene that was happening across the US during the mid to late 90s, which the original label was heavily involved in. One of only two Voye EPs ever released, this collection of tracks has been re-mastered by The Exchange in London using the original master CD from the now defunct label's owner.

K Records continues to serve up a variety of music that perhaps wont fit anywhere else in Kniteforces deep catalogue of labels. This time we hit the ground running with one of the darkest releases ever to come out of the KF studio. Luna-C flexed very different muscles in the studio for this release, and it was perhaps too different at the time of release…Initially released on its own sub label, and limited to 300 copies, this slice of early d’n’b / dark sounding jungle has gained more and more acclaim over the years and changes hands for serious money with collectors on Discogs due to its scarcity.

Influential continues its run of outrageously good jungle in the 93-95 vein, with this incredible EP from newcomers Champion Sound. Mashing up huge amen edits with deep dancehall vibes and samples, this EP is both authentically old skool yet full on bass heavy vibes for 2001

Influential is proud to bring back the legendary producer Dj Sike – an artist whos reputation is long when it comes to innovative music and perfect production. Returning to the scene after an absence of over a decade, this EP evokes the original jungle sound of 94 with the production values of a master at work. Never too smooth, this blend of dancehall vibes and rolling bass will move even the sluggish of feet!

Another major repress – this much sought after slice of cheekiness finally gets the glorious remaster treatment it deserves. With artwork that pays homage to the original release, this one will be here for a short time only…get in while you can….

DJ Sotofett and LNS have teamed up with Tresor Records for Sputters. The double-vinyl album with 15 cuts spans a hybrid of warped electro and psychedelic hypnosis, all the while remaining fixed in an unmistakable dance release. Recorded between 2017 – 2020, and bookmarked throughout by intros and interludes dug out from archival material, it's a deconstructed yet classic compound of techno-sonics.

LNS from Calgary, Canada, is rooted in braindance, electro and acid. Releasing 12inches on both her self-titled imprint LNS and Sotofett’s Wania - LNS, whilst in the studio, has often pointed out “the lacking blend of dub and electro in dance music”.
DJ Sotofett, hailing from Moss, Norway, is among a myriad of things commonly known for the extended work of his Sex Tags Mania and Wania labels, without forgetting his afro, dub and jazz releases on Honest Jon's London.
Together both artists give space to a guest appearance by E-GZR, a fellow Wania artist, to open the Sputters journey. The sinus bending drum stutter of K.O. by E-GZR collisions flanging basses and chronic-inducing synth pads to blueprint the technoid atmosphere to come. LNS & DJ Sotofett take control with El Dubbing, evoking an effect-heavy demeanour, typical of the Sex Tags Mania soundworld that DJ Sotofett is responsible for, this time rubbing up against solid electrified rhythms. The hypnotic moods carry over to Dúnn Dubbing's deep delays, freely running over a surprisingly minimal skeleton retaining a solid direction. Crafting a warmly emotive end of Side-A with sparse rhythms to perfection.
A meaner turn introduces Side-B. Hints of electro are scattered everywhere, fat basslines, ricocheting drums and synths that mourn and drift in and out of harmony. Vitri-Oil exposes a tumbling sound design, fog-lit chords of material fragility and nosedives - with an alive mix that wallows and grows in equal measures. The side closes with Shim, a classic drift between house and techno releasing sensual euphoria with the albums first big surprise – grand strings.

“LNS wanted to sell her TR-606, while my reply was for us to make a track with the 606 sounding so fresh that she'd never even think about selling it again” Sotofett states. Side-C proves the artists to be some of the most singular producers around with album centrepiece The 606. Clocking in over 10 minutes, it kicks off as a driving techno banger, chugging bass and big chords. Midway through everything falls away, and out of the void enter scattered drums and improv piano lines emerge, while twisted dubs lead us back in an enduringly warm groove.

Side-D sets the clock back to the original electroid foundation of the album, casting fires with alien vibrations. Synchronic Bass Blort is a hard-hitting electro track, steaming sonics and thrills, its melodic hook diving in subterranean motions. On Sputtering the duo raspily beams into outer space, with fizzy motives that disfigure and dazzle while the harmonies of the closing track is for yourself to experience.
DJ Sotofett and LNS deliver an album inhabiting a world full of sci-fi sonics and fierce groove. Their sound is free and live, simultaneously wondrous and sharp.
