MOHABITAT, never ceasing on the producing scene since 2014, has always possessed a strong melodic element as part of their compositions. This was apparent in the self-produced ambient album, "Crisalide". After several years of working as a duo with the visual artist, Hamaranta, Mohabitat has since been working as a solo artist in order to focus more attention on sound, the research thereof and the necessity to create a signature.

Mohabitat continuous his sound research through vintage synthesizers, tape echoes and analogue gear in a new release with 4 tracks composed for clubbing as well as for listening pleasure. These tracks, in fact, reflect a thread of melodic house and techno by label Afterlife for Tale of Us but, simultaneously experiment with compositions influenced by artists such as Jon Hopkins and Rival Consoles, as well as the recognized sound of the contemporary Berlin scene. By the use of these instruments, it also seems like a soundtrack for a Netflix production, such as Stranger Things.

Prima Luce was conceived from the need to take advantage of the opportunity that Lockdown presented. It was during isolation that Mohabitat permitted himself to reflect on his personal situation, his own path and at the same time those closest to him. This album is a journey that can be travelled within the duration of a literal day, from sunrise to sundown or, metaphorically, as the progressive phases of our own lives.

In the thirtieth release of anniversary we are excited to present a new debut on Runemark Records - a Lithuanian electronic music duo Artfcl and their fresh “Drawn In(to) Soundscape'' EP including two remixes from Ten Walls. The EP is already pressed on vinyl with the following digital release.

The original version opens the EP, which is taken from Artfcl’s debut album “Artificial”. A timeless piece of music full of beautiful soundscapes, variety of grooves and vast deepness.

Artfcl’s Destroyed remix shows the different side of the duo and is dedicated to breakbeat fans. Modular synths and rhythm patterns create dark and pulsating vibes.

“Drawn In(to) Soundscape” Ten Walls remix starts the B side of the vinyl. Bright pads, massive bass lines and magnificent synths build a heavenly uplifting atmosphere. The most energetic track in the pack.

The last but definitely not least Ten Walls’ remix for Artfcl’s composition “Colored”. A totally different approach to remixing. Ten Walls shows his sophisticated jazzy side for the first time in a remix. Complicated structures are delivered in an easy listening manner to emphasize the colorfulness of the remix.

With three EPs and an A-Sides cut to his name, Marco Faraone has been an invaluable label contributor, dating back to his Drumcode debut in 2013. The Italian remains one of scene’s most versatile producers, a torchbearer of both house and techno and able to craft both with masterful ease. Coming off two albums in 2020, his inspired form rolls on throughout ’21, with ‘Our Freedom’, his memorable fourth EP contribution to Adam Beyer’s label.

‘Burn Down’ is an evocative vocal-led trip, made just as much for the headphones as the dancefloors of the future. Led by layers of laser-kissed riffs and a resistance-leading vocal, the title track is an emotion-charged anthem-in-the-making. ‘Orbital’ has bags of personality and pep, bringing the vibe to a more optimistic place, with a silky melody line and plenty of effortless groove. ‘Magic Sunset’ is the cream on top; the percussion pulsating and punchy, as cascades of goosebump-inducing synths unfurl beautifully throughout the six-minute jam.

For Danish native and much-revered producer/performer Rune Reilly KÖLSCH, Kompakt has proven the perfect home curating his music: with two critically acclaimed albums and a now classic run of solo instalments in our Speicher 12' series, he took his techno craftsmanship to new levels, setting it on a melodic, emotive and even autobiographical course - without loosing any of its punch and quirkiness. With new full-length 1989, Kölsch presents the final chapter of an elegant, anthemic album trilogy that started with an exploration of early childhood memories and influences on '1977' (KOM 276 CD 107) - the year of his birth - and continued on '1983' KOM 329 CD 122), a vibrant and picturesque journey sound tracking the year he travelled through Europe aged six.

'With 1989, we have arrived in my early teens', Kölsch explains, 'a difficult time in my life, where I mostly just remember the greyness of it all - grey feelings, grey weather and my own grey face.' Coinciding with the already challenging need to squeeze past the bottleneck of puberty, it was a time of seething family crisis - his parents were divorcing: 'I would escape that grey world on my skateboard, listen to my Walkman as I explored the city around me. Music became my savior - the only way to overcome my family's hard times. I found a soundtrack to my grey life, and suddenly there was color.' It's why you'll find several tracks on the album being named 'grey' in different languages, and they all share this distinctly 'Kölsch-esque' moment of epic melodies breaking through propulsive techno beats like the sun through stormy clouds - a musical twist that's particularly impressive on album hit single PUSH, first heard on 'Speicher 97' (KOM EX 97).

Runemark Records comes back with the twenty seventh release in the label catalog and fourth release in the RUNES compilation series. This time RUNES #4 contains four original compositions from four different respected artists: Ten Walls, Justin Cholewski, Taran & Lomov, and Alex Schaufel.

Ten Walls’ “Yhorm” perfectly opens the compilation with its groovy beats, Italo-like arpeggiated bass line and beautiful and deep harmonical synthesizers. “Yhorm” tells an always evolving story full of vast atmospheric spaces.

“Rush Hour” from Justin Cholewski grabs the attention from the very first beats. Energetic, driven by an arpeggiated bass line, full of acidic synths, “Rush Hour” is designed for big Techno rooms delivering the rush at its finest.

B-side starter “HX3” is a dark, heavy and unpredictable dance floor spice that comes from the Latvian duo Taran & Lomov. Duo has created an underground colorful musical journey to lose oneself deep in the music.

Compilation closing track “Near & Far” comes from super talented Italian producer Alex Schaufel. This time Alex brings the tasty Electro bits, mixes them with the energetic Breakbeat, spices up with filtered synthesizers and glues everything into one fast moving experience.

Future Romance starts off with „Reboot“ a new single by the labelboss himself showcasing once again his ability to build up a track like no other and combine extensive melodies with big basslines & clever invented synth-work. Album contains nine original compositions, each of them has its own character and a story to tell. And they are mixed into one evolving journey. A lithuanian electronic music composer and live performer Marijus Adomaitis world-wide known as Ten Walls has always been delivering a highly sophisticated sound and this time is none other. Even better - the variety of soundscapes throughout the album brings emotions of fulfillment and leaves one somewhere out of this reality. It is definitely the highest point of creativity where every single detail matters as well as the whole picture, from outmastered usage of today's technologies to the artful and conceptual point of view. While using less, the author somehow manages to reach the most of it and in his own way.
“Lights For The Dreams” is full of different textures and colors, yet keeping a similar tempo in most of the tracks, giving a few chills in the middle of the album with “Loot” and closing it with “SSV Normandy”. Most of the compositions keep the spirit lifted up in uptempo moods with tight rhythms like “Halo”, groovy arpeggios from “Daily Rehearsal” and touching atmospheres in “Jorge”. As mentioned before every composition is exceptional with its own freedom of mindset. The title track “Dreams” brings recovered electro vibes, precisely constructed structure and spills symphonic greatness above the minimalistic groove. The introductory “Neighbourhood” is all about what feelings sound like, a mixture of electro-acoustic soundscape grabs attention from the very start of the vinyl. The following “Teacher” continues a similar soundscape but in a totally different manner and genre. While dark and dashing “Dungeons” fills the gap of dubby Techno with a well crafted wide spectrum of moods.
“Lights For The Dreams” was mostly inspired by a video game “Moonray” that Marijus was creating a soundtrack for. “The music in this album represents a very creative period of my life where I just couldn’t stop recording new music. One of the big inspirations was a video game called “Moonray” that used part of this album in its soundtrack. It’s a very exciting period of my life.” - says Ten Walls. Album contains nine compositions while the soundtrack for the video game contains 30 original pieces with 10 minutes introductions for each one. “Moonray” is a surreal 3rd-person action RPG set in a fantastical sci-fi world. The early release of the video game is going out in the mid of summer 2020.
The full-length album is divided into two parts and pressed into vinyl. Though it is mixed into a continuous play, the vinyls have fine marks at the start of every composition so that one could drop the needle exactly at the start of any track.

Brazilian sorceress ANNA arrives on Afterlife with a tryptic of atmospheric ascendence.

ANNA has risen to prominence as one of South America’s foremost purveyors of techno, headlining events around the world and delivering exquisitely balanced sets that merge emotion and intensity.

‘Journey to The Underworld’ exemplifies her ability to blend tough beats with transcendent atmospheres. The EP opens with the title cut, where thunderous drums underpin a symphony of melodrama lighting up your emotional centre. ‘Surrender’ combines serenity with hypnotic rhythm to transport the listener into an alternate realm of consciousness. Finally, beatless soundscape ‘Dissolution’ gently caresses the soul as it journeys home to the source…

Apron Records has been instrumental in shaping the current landscape of contemporary electronic music coming out of the U.K. since 2014. After almost a decade of pushing their unique vision has made the Apron Records imprint one of the most in-demand labels in most independent record stores. Now more than 45 releases deep in their journey, Apron Records have teamed up with Patta Soundsystem to work on their first various artists release and to celebrate this monumental milestone, both camps have collaborated to create a clothing capsule to accompany this release. After working with the artist formerly known as Funkineven on ‘The Wave’ late last year, it was only right to showcase the diverse talents behind this movement.

Sharing a drawing board with Patta for the first time with Apron Records, together they have created a Trucker Cap and a Graphic T-Shirt that echo the racing theme of the whole project. Better Together is the slogan that runs throughout the entire collaboration, stressing how unity makes us stronger as individuals. Artwork for the record has been provided by Amsterdam based artist Jim Klok. His unique Acetone printing technique has now been immortalised on this LP, juxtaposing vintage cars with checkered racing flags to create a dynamic cover that would be right at home in a picture frame as well as a record bin.

System Olympia’s ‘Passi Mai’ is a beautiful 80’s inspired driving riddim layered with her own vocals that wouldn’t be out of place in an arcade or a sticky nightclub floor. Followed up by ‘Leven’ by Brassfoot, we get a wobbler from the NTS regular. Layed with Jamaican vocal samples and audacious arpeggiated bleeps, Leven is a soulful approach to techno tropes that have been bouncing around Brassfoot’s head. Shamos’ 737363 is a cryptic masterpiece. With dreamy pads as a backdrop for shuffling drum beats, euphoric sweeps and dynamically designed synthesis, this closes off the themes explored in the first half of the record.

Side B kicks off with J M S Khosah’s contribution to the record titled ‘Lessons’ which is a dancefloor filler, adorned with glamorous percussion, vocal samples and syncopated stabs ontop of a driving 4x4 kick pattern. Kicking things into 6th gear is a club-ready production from London's most soulful selector Shy One. Groovy basslines and a 2-step riddim make ‘Candy Floss’ an ode to the grimey and the glittery sides of London nightlife. This project champions one of the people that have been pivotal in the success of the label, Steven Julien whose track E46 is an emotional journey through his synth-laden East London studio. Bookending the project are two compositions from Compton’s-own AshTreJinkins. Showcasing his abilities to approach the project from both an ambient and a pure beat-making perspective in order to hold the whole project together.

microcastle’s second offering of 2022 welcomes Mulya back to the label for a new EP. Based in Budapest, Hungarian artist Mulya brings an inventive approach to his brand of electronic composition. Throughout his varied discography, he touches on disparate themes and sounds, straddling a divide between intergalactic design and indie-inspired beats, often mixing both into one amorphous, unclassifiable sound of his own. As a favourite of Ame, Dixon, Fideles, Frankey & Sandrino, Innellea, Trikk and more, Mulya made his microcastle debut in July of 2020 with ‘Chrome Extra’. The five-track showcase was a prime example of the Hungarian’s creative attitude, ultimately leading to 2021 projects via Innervisions, TAU and his own Complaint Kulture imprint. Having gotten the year underway with ‘#SENDBRO’, a joint effort with fellow countryman and Complaint Kulture partner Sobek, Mulya makes a welcome return to microcastle with ‘REM’.

Picking up on the themes he brought to his label debut, Mulya has created five new tracks rich with spirit and allusion. Beginning with the panoramic synth textures and haunted minimalism of ‘REM’, an unexpected shade is revealed through wailing horn-like drones and celestial sonics. Evoking a dystopian style ecstasy, this Echonomist and Innellea favourite proves once again that the most astute artists often find a way to the finish line, where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Meanwhile, ‘Inner Circle’ plunges us into the wormhole, collapsing under its own gravity as momentum builds and pyrotechnic synths steal the air, eventually breaking into a hyperventilating helium rush of clattering percussion and rolling rhythmic structures.

Moving forward with ‘Free Falling’, Mulya sustains an understated yet confident club energy. Dark rebounding rhythms and grungy basslines set the course for snatches of disembodied voices and satellite-like bleeps. These echoes of extra-dimensional sound salvage bring forth the unshackled mind melt of the aptly titled ‘Astral’. Mulya’s relentless curiosity for rhythmic and harmonic experimentation basks in retro-radiance here, as a delirious blur of broken beats, metallic fragments and acid-laced machine funk emerge from their sci-fi saloon slo-mo showdown. Rounding out the collection and sitting on a modern psychedelic perch of its own are the eternally fresh aesthetics and eager optimism of ‘Cosmos’, a feel-good jaunt that breaks into a rich textural rain of melodic colour, where euphoria awaits with arms raised and eyes closed.

"MDQ is named after the airport code of Mar Del Plata in Argentina," says Guy. "I played there with John Digweed earlier this year at MUTE. It's a party on the beach and, for me, was the best I've been to in my life and not just as a DJ." MDQ beautifully recreates and projects the warmth of the sun, uplifting vibes and postive energy that Guy felt on the sand that day. Its melodic charm and passionate delivery lifts the listener, transporting them to that most southern of shores.
Diagonal, on the flip, was born more out of necessity. "I needed something with a transitional feel for my sets. A track that would allow me to segue to the next part, up the tempo and deliver a more groovy and seductive magic." Another delicious brace from the Lost & Found boss and a perfect selection to soundtrack the new year.

On the 16th Runemark release we deliver a fresh and hot EP 'Mas' from Ten Walls which includes three original compositions: the title track 'Mas', 'Prolog' and 'Sazam'. EP is a vivid combination of diverse melodies style wise and every composition has a unique personal touch.

The three tracks move from Detroit's minimalism to Minimal Techno, with dark, trippy, but pumping raw power. Mas ends up with a beautiful story with its unpredictable structure. Built from electro bass, tight rhythms, uplifting breakdowns, the storyline is glued into one singular almost tangible experience. This time Ten Walls' experiments bring his deeper, darker side. Swampy, clumsy, down to earth 'Prolog', shifting and tricky 'Sazam' is opened by the title track 'Mas' - created in space arpeggio. 'Mas' recalls the EP title, that according to the author came up accidentally - simply taking letter R from the word Mars.

To understand where 'The Attic' came from, we have to go back to one of my oldest memories: watching Der Phantastische Film on German tv. The movies that left the deepest marks on me were the ones that zoomed in on the possible bad sides of technology and predicted the downfall of mankind. A next personal cornerstone was Tubeway Army's 'Are 'friends' electric', from 1979: it was the first time I was blown away by the sound of synths. It felt so new, an expression of the perversity of technology through music. The song was about androids who seduced humans in order to rape them. The shortcomings of human beings transported to technology. It was machines turning against humanity. It wasn't like Kraftwerk who were very first degree, unpersonal and too clean.

I was an early adopter of home computers, but the instruments and studio stuff to make music were still out of my reach in the early eighties. So when sampling came along, for me it was not only an important change in sound image, but it opened up all these possibilities too. And then finally, in the mid-eighties - I was working in the military - people started selling their hardware to make the switch to digital. I bought loads of old gear and started experimenting with sound. It was around the time when the whole new beat thing exploded in Belgium. I despised it. To me they were yuppies with smileys plundering a subculture, shitting out one bland record after another... At the time I was listening to B-2 Unit by Sakamoto, or the weird electropop of YMO. That's probably where my idea of techno was shaped: this idea of electronics mixed with the German Bauhaus school, or with abstract Malevich paintings.

I quit the army around 1990, and shortly thereafter I had a dark dream that caused me to make 'The Attic'. I was in the attic of a house. It felt magical, but there was a sense of underlying danger. I looked up and the roof came off and started to dissolve, and I heard voices with bird like frequencies calling from the cosmos: 'come with us, come with us.' Maybe it was about the deification of technology Anyway, the image and the feeling of the dream were so vivid I transcribed them to music in maybe two days.

When the demo was finished, we went straight to Boccaccio and handed it to Olivier Pieters, who immediately played it. 'The Attic' went on to become one of the signature songs for which they switched on the big lasers. It started to live its own life: I heard it in shopping streets in Amsterdam, it was blazing from cars, it was huge in Germany after the wall fell, etc.

I quickly realized the music business wasn't something for me though: all these people with their profiling urge, the bootlegs, the fact that music got pushed into formats ... In retrospect, I was part of a scene without really taking part in it.

With the 3-track EP Mantra JOIX opens a new dimension in his electronic music. For the first time he uses his own voice on a larger scale, giving it a machine-like sound that transforms and heightens the meaning of his German words.

The lead track "Mantra" refers to the techno movement in Germany in the 90s, which JOIX lived and breathed as a teenager. Those mystical experiences †staying awake all night in rooms full of light and sound †came close to the trance states attained by chanting Mantras. This is the main idea and the emotional inspiration behind this pulsating A-side track.

A touch of nostalgia also comes through "Wächter der Nacht". This tune channels the mysterious night, the search for ecstasy and self-dissolution in music clubs protected by the "guards of night".


Finally, "Klimax" is a dance-floor-banger that distinguishes itself by whipping up immense energy, and its space-filling melody and enormous hall cascades.

From the streets to the clubs! I'm Dario Rossi, the "techno drummer", and this is my first official EP. Echoing 80's new wave and EBM, I created a mixture of nowadays techno sounds and some pure 90's rave vibes. Enjoy it!

Nathan Micay (formerly Bwana) steps out under his own name for the first time with a pair of glistening panoramas well-primed for those exultant hours of the early morning. The 12' opens with 'First Casualty', aka *that* track played by Avalon in her Printworks set last year, before heading into deeper territories with 'Beginning Ballads' on the flip. In Nathan's words: "These are without a doubt the most personal tracks I have written to date. I made them as a sort of exercise in self-therapy during my first few months in Berlin. As time has gone on, more meanings have unfolded with each listen. For me, these tracks are a rebuttal to the endless churn of negativity in the news and online. They have become my battle cry in the club, something to mobilize while also offering a chance to escape it all, even briefly."

The composers have built in a classy melodic bass with an enormous engaging touch. Giuseppe Bottone brings us closer
to the techno edge with his track Desiccant'. You will dive into a world of synthetic drones, surf on rough clap sounds and get enchanted by electronic structures. The track is made of an overwhelming deep atmosphere. Goodbye My Hero' demonstrates Alvise Torrisi's abilities for producing tracks with
long intros, thoughtful synth pattern and increasing dynamic. Especially, the melody is a breath-taking beauty of music... definitely another anthem for the summer. David Di Sabato's Never Night On The Moon' is much more reduced in sounds compared to the other tracks of this release, which induced a
fine balance of trippy atmospherical rhythmics, raw dancefloor energy and sound design. W004LTD bridges the gap between state-of-the-art techno, melodic techno and tech house. We can't wait for playing this record.

DJ, musician, former saxophonist - there's a combination of skills you don't get to see too often. Get acquainted with DEMIAN, then, aka Damien Pontonnier, a French artist who relocated to Paris after an influential career as

electronic music pioneer and party organizer in Northern Spain. Now an accomplished producer with releases on labels such as Correspondant or Clouded Vision, he presents the MILESTARS EP for Kompakt - a quirky and vibrant track trio with an obvious knack for catchy melodic details in a kinetic techno corsage.

Having amassed quite the experience portfolio when it comes to grassroots club culture, DEMIAN knows a thing or two about inspiring a dance floor - but that doesn't necessarily account for the artistic versatility or genuine lust for sonic adventures and happy accidents that these cuts exhibit: opener DÉCLICA boots with deliciously stoic cowbell-isms that leave the doors of perception wide open for some iconoclastic, yet surprisingly effective synth action.

Meanwhile, the title cut invests in texture-rich atmosphere without forgetting about the precise amount of momentum you need to tip the floor over the edge. Closer NO HYPE FOR THE FISH takes things in a more hypnotic direction, intertwining freeform arpeggios and tape delay with smart beatmanship. Simultaneously lush and lean in its overall aesthetic, the MILESTARS EP will feed both the nerd and the dancer in you - a swiss army knife with all the right tools for masterful crowd control.
