Square' is the follow up to Redshape's album debut 'The Dance Paradox' (Delsin, 2009) - that is if you don't want to count the double impact 12-inch - Red Pack' as a long player. And indeed, it is a long player in the truest sense of the term. Pamphlets, theories and opinions about the dubious role of 'the album' in techno are dime a dozen, i.e. squaring the circle, but the man with the mask makes an effort to prove all of them wrong. 'Square' doesn't care for styles, genres or expectations, it can hold its own. Spread across twelve tracks you are as likely to meet vintage Redshape on tracks like 'It's In The Rain' or 'The Playground (Square Version)' as you will encounter new facets of him with the Hyperdub affiliated Space Ape featuring 'Until We Burn' and 'Moods And Mice' or with a cluster of ambience pieces ('Orange Clouds', 'Landing', Departing'). Working its way through all these states and moments on and off the dance floor, through melancholy and industrial romanticism alike, 'Square' leaves you with the feeling of having experienced an electronic music album with identity that trusts in itself and wants you to trust in it. No matter if your perspective comes from a classic album like Kenny Larkin's 'Metaphor' (R&S, 1995) or is informed by the recent retro futuristic developments in the United Kingdom, if techno means more than a desperately compressed kick drum to you, Redshape with all his idiosyncrasy finds his way into your heart. Too hip to be square I don't think so.

The fourth release from Audiofugitives Recordings (AU004) comes from Jonathan Torrico and his Schizolectric project! With this EP called 'Encephalogram' it seems that Schizolectric explores the electrical activity of the brain through the sounds in six tracks that will transport you to an obscure hypnotic tunnel with atmospheric, subterranean and pure electronic soundscapes. This are the remixes of Marko Fürstenberg´s album 'Gesamtlaufzeit' (RCLP003) with reworks of Reference, Rhauder, Pattern Repeat and Rita Hess.

With this second release on Blueform the artist Random Audio goes much more into mystic space post-futuristic sounds - as known from another great artist of this kind of techno. Starting with "Objects" Random Audio builds a whole scene of the slow arrival of those unidentified flying objects using a counter-rotating rhythm moving exact like the lights of these objects. "Signal to Mysterious" goes really deep into sophisticated bleeping chimes for messaging to and from an unknown life-form. This track is followed up by a matching one - "Indicator" - but this one has a much slower and darker theme with light pads plus hissing sounds and slow broken beats. Somehow different is "Calculation" - an uplifting, bubbling and pumping rhythmic stomper. And finally "The Ensemble" comes with varying percussive drums and string sounds building themselves up again and again - only broken up by a short smooth part of beeping, string and pad sounds.

Theory is back after a break over the summer with a stormer of a release from a legend of the Techno scene, Scotland's Stephen Brown!
His unique brand of intelligent and soulful goodness has graced many labels over the years (including Transmat, Djax and Skudge to name just a few), so obviously we're happy to welcome him to our humble imprint.
Backed with 2 firing remixes from Ben Sims that have been doing plenty of damage all over, this is an EP we're very proud of and hope it works for you too!

For our 40th release we are very pleased to welcome on Deeply Rooted House Argentina's own Jonas Kopp (Ostgut Ton, Curle, Krill Music, Ear to Ground, Traut). This 4 tracks ep gives a good example of his diverse and still very defined techno recording skills. A side goes from the very straight forward and somehow mental 'Reforce' to the deep and abstract journey of 'Proteus 81', while B side kicks of with the somehow balearic and positive 'Green fingers' to end up with the quest of 'Light'!

GEHM returns once again to the MATHEMATICS imprint for more banging housecuts! "FIRE & ICE" along with "FROM SPACE 3 SUNS" bring old school Chicagohouse vibes with raw drums and eerie synths. "WARM WORDS DON'T HELP AS MUCHAS A HELPING HAND" with the title track take on the flip.

Italian based producer Roberto Clementi. A warm, analogue dub house feeling immediately rolls through his tracks with deep, techno orientated sub bass permeating layers or rich synth work and crisp evolving percussion. Having previously released on NY based producer Brendon Moeller s Steadfast Records, Roberto continues down the path to sonic delight with 4 tracks forged in the underground.

Preceding a full length album on 4lux, Ka§par showcases his amazing talents on this second EP for 4lux. The portuguese producer comes with some of the most interesting dance music around. Got Good Love is a tough Deep House groover that comes as both original and with a Nicholas remix. Cruising Andromeda is a futuristic techno tune for forward thinking deejay's. On Hyphen Ka§par slows down the pace and tosses in some 707 action: a crazy ride with rough synths and spaced out effects. Ka§par's releases have become rare and sought after, releasing little more than one 12'' a year in the recent past... when one listens to the result, it only proves how great things take their time.

The Dimension EP can be seen as a veritable coup from the Sect label, as iconic Dutch techno artist Jeroen Search makes his label debut with some typically wall rattling techno functionalism. Able to flaunt a discography that reaches deep into the early nineties with releases across Mills' Axis imprint, M_Rec LTD, Traut and more, Search's tireless energy for one take productions has seen him at his most productive this year and as always his tracks still retain a finely sculpted feel regardless of his preferred approach. Swiftly spiralling undercurrents of analogue acid merge in synchronicity with the tightly wound drums to provide one relentlessly driven groove on "Paralell Lives" with intermittent ascendant hat rolls and subaqueous keys worthy of the Something In The Sky series only serving to further hypnotise your senses. Complementing this, "Section A" is gruff Fachwerk style concrete techno at its finest and "Inverse" demonstrates Search's ease for producing well crafted minimalism.

With 'Nite Jam' and 'Elixir Of Dreams' she continues to explore the boundaries of the self-dubbed ghost house genre. And ghostly it is. Late night occult tinged music for the after midnight freaks and sunshine shy infidels. A descendant from a Bengali aerospace engineer and Cherokee psychic, she was born in San Jose California, raised in San Francisco and is now residing in a quiet seaside village on the North Sea. Here she spends most of her time wandering through dark forests, channeling the energy of nature and primal forces contained within symbols, and using these energies to produce a sensual and exotic blend of deep Detroit-style techno and leftfield ghost house.

Having released two of this tracks on early Transmat compilation CD's, the other six unreleased tracks are carefully mined from Louis' archive of 15 to 20 years old. Mastered By Helmut Erler at Dubplates. Limited to 377 Copies.
Louis Haiman's music is a balance of gentle synth arrangements swimming atop a sea of low-end frequencies. Ambient soundscapes drift among layer after layer of meandering melodies while deep, syncopated rhythms and bass keep listeners grounded.

Continuing the success of Ben Sims and Kirk Degiorgio's joint project Machine - a clubnight which focuses on new, unreleased, & upfront music; it's primary home in London, but with editions all across Europe each year - Ben & Kirk set out their stall with the debut release of their new imprint of the same name. Kirk's "Machine Theme" slips into deep & melodic grounds, while Ben's "Metalworks" brings a harder, dead-of-night techno feel. Sims also lends his remixing skills and provides a tougher examination of "Machine Theme"

Chicago's Steven Tang (Emphasis) with four brand new tracks, with Tang's unique trademark blend of raw jacking Chicago beats and Detroit-inspired atmospheres. One of the few contemporary techno artists that truly delivers music for both body and soul... Hot release!

The twenty third release from Needwant is a stellar EP by rising star EJECA. The Horizon EP explores the realms of modern electronic music, blending and progressing through styles from deep house to 2-step and garage.
This year has seen Ejeca team up with fellow Irishmen Bicep to release one of the standout tracks of the summer, 'You' on Will Saul's Aus Music as well as hot appearances on on labels such as Saints & Sonnets, Future Classic and Kolour.
The title track 'Horizons' is a perfect slice of modern house with some classic flavours. 90's organ sounds alongside resonant synths, subby bouncing bass and a rhythmic female vocal give the track its nice mix of contemporary and classic. This one is destined for the summer dance floor.
On the B-side. 'Dazed' crosses into deeper territory. The track opens into a sporadic array of synths and clipped vocals while maintaining the swinging rhythm underneath. Down tempo grooves, a sharp kick and warm garage bassline make this a great, laid back summery track.
'See Through You' keeps it deep and rounds off the EP with warm, murky synths, a bouncing bass line and skipping, pacey percussion.
Somewhere between the deepness of Ethyl and bumping of Bashmore, EJECA's diverse productions are proving a potent strain of the UK's young breed of forwardthinking music. With this knock out 'Horizons EP' on Needwant, EJECA's sound is set to resonate even more strongly.

Synonymous with Detroit, Techno, and Tresor, Scan 7 have remained protagonists of the Berlin-Detroit axis since it was first forged in the sweaty obsidian of the club's original Wertheim vault home. Now, over 20 years later, the masked techno collective pay tribute to the triptych's matted histories on 'The Resistance EP'.
With identifiable nods to Scan 7's Underground Resistance affiliations - the label that launched the group, and whose militaristic and political philosophies can be found littered throughout their discography - the EP begins with quintessential Detroit strings and groove before delving into darker techno territory. On the A-side, "The Resistance" offers an uplifting and delightfully nostalgic jaunt through dance music past, using all those favourite and immortal house tropes to deliver instant gratification. Meanwhile, the B-side shows off Scan 7 as masters of warm, yet shadowy techno - plus their trademark drum work - in the hypnotic "Why Not" and driving, basement-ready "In & Out Of The Groove".

A departure from astral electronics after releases on 100% Silk, No Age's PPM, remixes for Blondes & Scion AV. Digging into dancefloors, combining 4-on-the-floor grit w/ethereal synth sounds, think "pop acid", for this stuff surely is catchy.

Ibex is no more, so Tony launches NSD w/4 tracks that harken back to the late 80s, which may be appropriate, as that is when he started. Analogue bounce, acid, 707 & 727 sounds are all tweaked on this futurist look at the past.

Perc is back on Sleaze Records after the success of his Wicker & Steel album on Perc Trax last year. We now introduce his latest work in the shape of Pure & Simple, which is a massive acid techno track! It's great to welcome Ben Sims on remix duties for this one! Ben has been in splendid form production wise recently, with big releases on Drumcode & Theory most notably. The final remix is by German producer Sawlin, who releases regularly on labels like Vault Series & Ann Aimee!

Finnish techno producer Samuli Kemppi returns to Komisch for his third release.
Leading the charge against malfunctioning computer systems and faceless corporations on this killer three-track EP is 'Escape'. A surging, rippling bassline and heavy claps provide the basis for insistent bleeps and a surging, enveloping chord sequence that dispells even the most malevolent enemy.
Next up is 'Hostile', which follows a similar approach. Clipped drums and hissing percussion are mixed with an acid-spiked bassline and a sinister synth riff. It's a more sinister take on Samuli's big room techno and is sure to appeal to those who like it darker and deeper. The EP ends with 'System'. Kemppi's razor sharp percussion and tough beats are audible once again as he juggles bubbling acid bass licks with frequency-shifting tones and eerie synth riffs.

After three Creepy Autograph releases in 2008, Valentine Connexion returns with a five track EP from the little known artist The Abstract Eye. Five brilliant, analog techno tracks, which keep the spirit of original Detroit techno alive. It really leaves us breathless. Beautiful stuff! For fans of Dopplereffekt, Drexciya et al.

Anonymous techno 12" from Bristol

This is blueform, a sublabel of melted recordings, with it's first release - made by Random Audio. In order to assort different variations of techno blueform was founded as the first official sublabel of melted recordings, although small labels aside of melted were started so far. Blueform stands for real classic detroit techno as we know and love it for many years. Very famous protagonists, especially from the US formed this spacy, retro-futuristic and/or chordish sound - a special state of mind. Random Audio reflects these characteristics with his tracks of the hologram EP. He is an important part of the futuredraht community, he has produced many tracks of various styles - mostly (but not only) techno - and even now he had just his second track on melted recordings under another alias, this is his first own (vinyl | digitally worldwide distributed) release. The first track "Fourier Transmatica" brings us back with a pulsating sound into the late nineties of detroit techno. The chords, melodies and pads in "Downtown" fit exactly to the sound of "the motor city". "The Model" goes right into the science fiction side of techno using creaky blips and old string sounds and finally "The Mask" seems to build itself up with bubbling tones again and again. Watch out for the next big release of Random Audio very soon!
