Distinct sequences of sound, noise and rhythm. "GENETOUCHE" spits fire before going into acidic arp waves. "HANA" bangs hard over a squelching bassline with seductive vocals. "POSTULATING" creates a lush wall of sound. "SYMP", emotive phasing patterns and slow harmonic rhythms.

Kumia is the title of the 13th release from International Sound Laboratory and is written and produced by ISL artist Tuomas Salmela aka Phonogenic. "Kumia" connects the sound of his previous release, "Artifacts" with the continuation of the latest developments from our Finnish collaboration laboratory in Tampere, Finland. This time we also sent a sample to specialist researcher Samuli Kemppi, who also is involved with heavy duty works on labels such as Luke Slater's Mote Evolver.

Bergstrom cuts to the chase: cavernous, reverbed chords, slicing high hats and steely snares strapped to a sinewy 909 kick, with a siren droning faintly in the
background. Four-to-the-floor Ekaterina is the fever dream of funky house: icy hats and reverbs trick out a heavily filtered synth and a heaving sample of vintage
polka. Kicking off the flip, more war: State And Revolution evokes a kind of long march beneath forbidding skies, its occasional skirmishes
between razor sharp hats and muted claps blanketed by echoing synth stabs. Finally, Damperhof draws the curtains and departs the dancefloor: a mournful,
impressionistic cello, a slow throb, a little acid, sombre chords bouncing around the ruins... this is Mirko at his most expressive.

A huge departure from his known works, Marcos Cabral appears on L.I.E.S. with his most dynamic and experimental work to date, the False Memories 2xlp.
Compiled from various cassette tape recordings spanning the years of 1998-2000, here we have the early experiments from an accomplished producer, which showcase the unharnessed energy of youth when it crashes head on with the technology of the day. The songs created by Cabral reflect his attempts of the music of the time falling somewhere in between techno, dub techno, IDM, and even noise. An engaging and timeless listen the whole way through.

I recently found about three hours of my unreleased tracks from 1998-2000 on old cassette tapes. The collection that I set aside for LIES is pretty much all from 1998. During that time, I lived in upstate New York in a 3000 square foot loft with just one other friend. Both being DJ's we would use our loft for fairly large parties...Cajmere from Chicago definitely being a highlight. I knew nothing about "making" music at this time and was using this fairly primitive wav. looping program called Acid. I just started recording my crappy Roland MC-303 into my computer and would just mash loops together over and over. Listening to these tracks now, I have a really vague memory of making them, and feel that their naive nature and the happy accidents that happened here are pretty exciting to listen to.

WHEN TWO OF LONDON'S MOST ACIDIOUS DJ'S / PRODUCERS MEET, THE RESULTS ARE GOING TO BE INTERESTING, SO THE 1O MINUTE PLUS "LIVE JAM" OF B-ULTRAS IS NO DISAPPOINTMENT. Collaborations are often the fortune of timing. With Andy having moved on since closing the Dissident label to launching his Cave Paintings project to Tim's departure from Battant and striking out as Andrew Weatherall's engineer and soon to be co-member of The Asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at each's respective studios. A love of new wave, new beat, UK Bleep and Detroit techno all feature in B-Ultras and the aptly titled, Neu Beat. Both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of Andy's (and co-hort Joe Hart) infamous World Unknown dancefloor. Running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid house's ideals. Clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. Keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. Backing these up is a remix of B-Ultras from Jamie Paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some B-boy Dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.

Sydney's dancefloor sanctuary Templar Sound reigns in a new year of club music with Atlanta's own DJ Vague (another sound and strand from the producer Helix), who constructs a 3-track highway soundtrack of muscular, drive-loop techno with Porsche Trax - ricocheting teasing bass figures, blown-out synths, and the darker hues of house into an 18-minute flare of euphoria.

From the stuttering, suffocating kicks and restless reserve of 'Porsche Trax 1' to the smoky claps that ring-in its uplifting follow-up, Porsche Trax is a reversal of the glass-edged precision of his Club Constructions releases as Helix on London label Night Slugs.
Maintaining a foreboding streak right the way through to the scanning phasers and ricketing finale of 'Porsche Trax 3', DJ Vague's inspired remit to produce for the perfect drive has proved a marbled result - splicing the physical and cerebral into a release perfectly realised for the dancefloor-driven Templar Sound

The theme of "Chronicles of Possible Worlds" is exoplanets, new planets discovered starting in 1995 which revolve around a star outside our solar system. Mixing music, dance and visuals, this creative work testifies to the advances of science and hints at the existence of possible other worlds. Following a period of investigation and a meeting with researchers from the Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory, Mills chose to focus on six planets (Wasp 12b, 13b, 14b, 15b, 16b and 17b). Their specific physical and structural properties were then translated through music, sound, images and dance.

Together with Mills, the choreographer Alexandre Roccoli created a roaming choreography spread out across the Vasarely Foundation that explores the correspondence between the physical properties of these planets and choreography’s own « body states».

The show’s soundtrack, composed by Mills, is broadcast by the dancers’ costumes (designed by Berlin designer Anke Bruns) that are equipped with speakers. The music, the different sonic trajectories, the dancers and the public ambling freely through the halls can spatialize, orbit, or even fuse in the naves of the Foundation.

Sect returns to the heart of the history once more. Chicago's legacy is finally represented on the label by one of the finest producers of this city and sound, DJ Skull. Words can't do justice to the legacy of this legend of house and techno music. For almost three decades Skull has produced of some of the finest dancefloor tracks ever made, be it through Saber (Trax), DJAX, Hybrid, Majesty Recordings, Tresor, or many others. Here the Dark Knight offers four very special cuts that reaffirm his legendary status. The title track combines the most up-to-date techno production techniques with the inimitable Chicago jacking sound. "Promise Of Peace" retrieves traditional house values on the mellower end of the musical scale, while "Reboot" gets back to the straight-up techno, with some nicely understated acid elements; and finally "Big Girls" is informed by both reggae dub and forward thinking techno.

This is the 4th Black Catalogue release. "Through The Galaxies." was originally released on the 'Modern Underground Music' sampler. This version is a full release with some great remixes....by both Lucy from Stroboscopic and Shigeto from Ghostly. These mixes are fantastic, and really show a nice array of sounds. I decided to add a dub version inna future dub stylee, too. I hope you enjoy it!

Long-standing UK techno label Surface Records are proud to announce the follow-up to the highly acclaimed Terrence Dixon EP 'Lost At Sea'. Released to high acclaim in the late spring of 2013, the EP garnered huge support throughout both techno and house scenes, attaining single of the month in several publications.

The 15-track Badge of Honor takes it one step further, pushing the envelope of techno with quirky, Detroit-infused abstractions that only the masterful Dixon (once dubbed the Aphex Twin of Detroit techno) could conjure up. Far removed from his Population One moniker, this is Terrence Dixon's fourth LP in an illustrious 20-year career.

The album hits us with raw, all-encompassing techno cuts alongside some choice left-field experiments (View From A Lighthouse, Radio Room and Light Years), cementing Terrence's reputation as the free-form producer of choice, not unlike a modern day Sun Ra. From the P-Funk basslines and melodies of Operation Acoustic and Incoming, to the dark, undulating Mills-esque sound of The Atlantic, this is a release that seemingly covers all the bases. Over a year in the making and already doing the rounds with those in the know, Badge of Honor represents techno from a future age, conceptualised to go well beyond the surface...

Paul Müller introduces himself with a record that sports class and mass alike. Its mass is easily explained: it sports three superb remixer. What tells better than some good old namedropping... Jori Hulkkonen, Lauer and Matt Walsh. These guys and Paul Müller are the ones responsible for the release's class by delivering great tracks ranging from tech-house to Disco - and whatever you may call Joris sound.

Clone Classic Cuts continues their re-issues series for one of the most influential techno acts ever... Drexciya. There is an eastern influence to be found in some of the tracks on 'ejecta', and sampling has played an important role in the creation of the music. CGI is proud to present the long overdue vinyl debut of Cc, one of the most talented DJ's and producers currently working outside of the limelight. This release follows up 'Up Wind', his outstanding 2012 digital EP for JASS, and precedes his forthcoming debut 12' EP for Proper Trax.

Designed to appeal to DJs and House fans seeking hard, funky, and effective club weapons, Cc's sound is informed by years spent honing his skills in clubs in Chicago (as heard on the funky and direct house workout of 'Calvino Italo') and as a resident DJ for No Pain In Pop in London (the UK Garage rhythms adapted to Cc's own deep and distinct sonic pallette on 'Shackles'). Cc now holds it down in the Southern states as a resident at Atlanta's HUNGER club night and Savannah's Cape Fear.

The flip-side of the record contains 2 tracks by Golden Donna, an incredibly unique and talented producer who is following up last year's stunning debut LP for Not Not Fun with two deep, moving, and melodic cuts of some extremely adventurous and almost ambient electro. Rich, pronounced melodic textures encourage deep introspection as they collide with uncommonly fresh rhythms, making this a workout for the mind as well as the body.

Wanda Group to release the 'OUTER ALSATIAN' EP on NOTOWN Recordings on November 25th

Wanda Group, aka Louis Johnstone, is the latest artist to release a record with Gold Panda's label, NOTOWN Recordings. An artist who 'creates beautiful, decayed landscapes of tape crackle, hiss and distortion' (The Quietus), the music of Wanda Group is an other-worldly collage of sounds that touch on musique concrete and other forms of oblique, densely beautiful sounds.

The release follows the appearance of his much discussed 'PISS FELL OUT LIKE SUNLIGHT' release on vinyl earlier this year after initially appearing in cassette form on Opal Records. Previously Wanda Group has released music on the likes of NNA Tapes, Further Records, Woetone and Vlek.

First appearance of this small-scale vinyl imprint from the east of Holland with a split-release by the well-respected Aroy Dee (M>O>S, Delsin, Rush Hour, Dolly) and Perseus Traxx (Bunker, M>O>S). Both of them are known for their deep analogue house music productions with raw and sharp edges, but most recognizable in their work is the presence of true emotions. After the vocal treatments and acid lines of Tallmen 001, Moog feedback comes rumbling through as Tallmen 002 kicks in. Multi joins as a co-producer for 'D220' Ghosts of guitar and synth lines weave in and out as it picks up momentum, the kick drum planted firmly in the chest plate and swirling high-hats complete this burner of a track. 'Floating Ground' returns to acid but not as one would expect. A simple melody turns into a strange animal, flying at once into outer-space then landing squarely on the 1, this is not your average acid tune.

'Bow EP', the 5th Modal Analysis release, delivers two cutting-edge techno tracks from the Manchester-based duo AnD, as well as a remix by Russell Haswell. Bow #1 and Bow #2 highlight the distorted broken-beat style that AnD specialize in. Completing the record is Haswell, who displays his own harsh, rhythmic noise aesthetic with a decomposition of Bow #1.

The Ghetto Slang" is the LOD records' first EP. Produced by Jann, French guy from Bordeaux, first release in his career. He tried to transcribe what Chicago and acid house mean for him. Tracks are produced in his studio in Saint Medard en Jalles in the suburbs of Bordeaux. He's used analog drum machines, effects and synthesizers like Miami, Juno 106 and Xoxbox. Collaborating with another french producer called Theorama, he decided to produce a powerful acid techno track, perfect for the dancefloor, that track, named "Die Tomorrow", was chosen by Ricardo Miranda to be remixed. The Chicago house veteran realized his remix adding a touch of class and deep feelings to the song, a real pearl of the EP. Energy, groove, deep pad and pure old school attitude are the elements of this first LOD Records' release.

Merkur releases its 6th EP which has a new, different approach compared to the last EPs for which it has gained much praise during the past 5 years.


The A-Side 'Theme Of Mercury' was produced by label founder Shingo Suwa and Akirahawks, who is known for the unique Re-edit label House Mannequin. The two of them mainly perform at Homopatik in Berlin. Theme Of Mercury is a hypnotic track which was created with some broken old synth and sends your mind on an intergalactic odyssey, before diving into the deepest ocean on a journey to forget about space and time.


The first track of the B-side is a remix from Ducerey Ada Nexino aka Yuji Kondo, also known for his work under both his own name and as a half of Steven Porter on Semantica.
The remix fastens up the mix by repetitive pulsating synths, giving the beat an industrial modern atmosphere and letting the crowd heating up.


The second track on the flip-side, called 'Barsoom', is a solo production by Shingo and completes the whole package. The functional work of a cut up 303 acid line with raw bass and a running groove creates an insistent and deeply pressured feeling.

It is very tempting and relatively easy to follow a proven path when you are a successfully established artist. Full of risks, but ultimately more rewarding is an inventive and ever changing approach to music making.

Cosmin TRG´s sophomore album 'Gordian' is a great example of an artist continuously pushing his own boundaries and denying genre limitations of any kind. It is a mature masterpiece. Not easy listening material, but a delightful listen, packed with plenty of rewarding oddities if you care to really take your time with it.

50 Weapons is preparing a series of remix singles to highlight the DJ aspects of the album. What started with a personal wishlist from Cosmin TRG has turned into a series of splendid remixes.

If you don´t know who Legowelt is, you have not been following electronic music for long. The dutch producer began releasing music in the 90ies and his list of project names easily fills a couple of pages. His remix of 'Terminus Abrupt' is a timeless, superlative techno monster. A synth heavy post Detroit anthem for the floor.

Miles Whittaker is one half of Pendle Coven, one half of Demdike Stare and known as Miles or MLZ for his solo works. His remix of 'Noise Code' is exactly the superb demonstration of deep drone techno dub epicness you would expect. Only it´s even better!

Shortly after his debut vinyl album in late October, on London's Third Ear Recordings, we present another techno track from We Are label owner Patrik Skoog aka Agaric, accompanied by three new favorites on the scene. Tapirus aka Charlton lives in Rotterdam, and is causing a big stir with his records on Mord, LDN Wht, and his recent debut as Tapirus on Midnight Shift, remixed by Basic Soul Unit.

R_L out of Hong Kong contributes to the Ep with his "Chaotic Bliss", a forceful track drenched in reverb, echoing metal throbs and resonating lustful timbres. Atimpuri finishes off the Ep with his lush track "So Edo", we have been secretly making people dance to this one for a little while now and are excited to finally have this pressed on vinyl. Stand by for the 2nd part in our "Alternativ" series.

We admit that we took a lenghty summer break, but Curle is back in full force this fall with new stuff from Lucy, Jonas Kopp, Albert Van Abbe and more to be announced soon. And Frank Martiniq of course. He is someone we've been keeping an eye on since his 'Adriano' record in 2002. More recently we enjoyed his releases on Stroboscopic Artefacts and Rotary Cocktail. Amost two years ago he made his Curle debut with 'Golden Dusk', which got remixed by Scott Grooves later on. The three tracks on the new 'Insomniac' EP could be classified as deep techno, but with enough power, groove and melody to set afire a dancefloor. Enjoy!

Rk's open the EP with B3rln2 a deep, techno track, based on a solid groove and a stellar pad. The new secret project Austerity closes the A side with a raw-tech-funk-balearic jam, highly recommended for every floor.
B side starts with Seven Words, sharp drums and a soft female voice, exclusive JS style. The last track of the EP is Pink Flamingo of Zero Gravity Saga a new anonymous project based in Berlin, pure acid destruction mixed with heart.

Minds to provide some more bass heavy club Techno. Fellow Osiris artist Killawatt providing a heavy alternative mix also. Early DJ

Earth Mothern proudly presents 'Italia '90 EP', a new cooperation between the infamous duo of The Analogue Cops and the unpredictable Rk's, brilliant strangeness on the A side and and the grace of technique on the AA side: 'Valderrama vs. Van Basten'.
Valderrama project, live recorded, mixes the raw and enlightened vision of Marieu with the funk touch of Andee. Ashy is an analogue floorkiller, house on a solid techno beats, intergalactic strings and pure machines energy. Underwater reminds of some early techno production, with a guitar loop that spins the track into an aquatic pad, break, beats, deep submarine sounds.

Van Basten project, also recorded live, adds up two masters of the sound, the 'Doctor' Lucretio with the talented JS. Dungeon Days, deep mood, heavy kick, a massive obsessive organ perfectly supported by the groove, like a never-ending bicycle kick and Bombers, a basic Techno track: beats, acid synth, heavy bass and bells for a track that explains in the best way the spirit of the new East (Italian) side of Techno. Once upon a time...in the midst of masked identities, artist pseudonyms and the like, Midnight Shift introduces a creature not even of human form.

Tapirus conjures music reflecting the duality of his soul. On one hand, rough and acidic to tell of the terrain of his past. And on the other, pure ethereal sounds borne of another place. This EP, showcasing 3 songs of the Tapirus alongside a remix by label artist Basic Soul Unit, is just the introduction to his tale.

The wiggly 'Acid Love Story' enters the room with its tight drum programming and infectious bassline commanding attention. A voice speaks of a love lost: 'She left...she left. Dark time ahead. Dark times in my head.' But perhaps the story is not yet over.

'Trying to Make Something of Life' continues the monologue, conveying an acidic almost bitter experience. Freaked out and haunting, this track is literally inspired by the dead. It lays as atribute to losing yet another close companion in life.

On the flipside, 'To Live in the Hearts...' and its remix comes through. Ascending the scales of life, its Asianic influence and soaring chords take one beyond the clouds. Basic Soul Unit's transforms the track helter-skelter, a frantic pace turning the peaceful tune into beautiful art of war.

Eine Serie von Remixes wird die Clubtauglichkeit des jüngsten Cosmin TRG Meisterwerks "Gordian" unter Beweis stellen. Den Anfang machen Berghain Resident-DJ Marcel Dettmann und der derzeit vieldiskutierte Engländer Lee Gamble mit einem Techno-Leckerbissen zwischen Post-Detroit und oszillierenden Klangillusionen.

*Hot on the heels of DJ Deep's inaugural Kern mix for Tresor comes 'Kern Vol.2', selected and mixed by Gigolos boss DJ Hell.

*Hell has a track record of releasing benchmark mixes, most notably the wildly eclectic mix for Belgian club FUSE in 2000, and 1995's 'X-Mix 5: Wildstyle', whose concept he feels is 'not far away from Kern Vol.2'. For 'Kern Vol.2', the Munich / Berlin machine dug deep into his vast collection to unite early House and Techno with the new wave.

*Detroit minimalism is represented by Robert Hood's 'Sleep Cycles', originally released in 1994 on the limited Minimal Nation EP, and Daniel Bell, who appears with an unreleased 'Chicago Style' version of his evergreen 1992 track 'Blip'.
Kenny Larkin's epic 'War of the Worlds' also features. It's an old favourite of Hell's and he describes it as 'very emotional'. He also points out that its inuence lingers on. 'This record was important for a lot of Berlin producers, they were inspired by this track and mixed it up with minimal techno,' he says.
*Meanwhile New York's Joey Beltram makes an appearance as Code 6 with 'Quad 1', an irresistibly dark slice of Nu Groove house ''Quad 1' is one of my favourite records ever. I still play it and it can change the whole mood of a party,' Hell says. But 'Kern Vol.2' isn't just about the old school and Hell has included tracks from new producers like Recondite and Jonas Kopp.
*Hell's background in harder-edge sounds predates the launch of Gigolos in the late 90s, and he welcomes its resurgence. 'There are new talents like Jonas Kopp and Recondite, who is also from Bavaria' he says, they connect history with future in a very innovative way, very cutting edge.
*'Kern Vol.2' also showcases some tracks that didn't get recognition rst time round. The churning, throbbing bass of Literon's 2006's 'Machine 1' is one such track, one of the many projects of Dutch producer Gerd. 'I didn't know it was him. He has so many different projects but if he released all of his music under his own name, he'd be a superhero,' Hell believes.
*Another obscurity is the Afro-acid groove of No Smoke's 'Koro Koro'. Hell spent a lot of time trying to trace the artist behind the project and offers the following observation: 'They are from London and this was released between 1988 and 1989, but I am not sure of their identity,' he says.

Impressive new comer to the Techno ranks, Counter Pulse, embarks on its 3rd release with a split 12" from Logotech and Unbalance, and including remixes by Giorgio Gigli and Inigo Kennedy. The release wades its way through dark, dramatic washes of atmospheric sound design and pulsing rhythms to present us with an EP not only worth dancing to, but also listening to. An outstanding journey through contemporary Techno.
