Originally released on Richie Hawtin's Minus label a decade ago, Restore stands alone as Houle's very first long-player and helped to establish his penchant for the quirkier side of techno and his superlative production skills. Spread across three 12s & 11 tracks it encapsulated the dark, minimal, groove-driven sound purveyed by Hawtin and the rest of the Minus crew, while retaining a strong sense of Houle's unique character and identity. Now it's the perfect time to breath new life into an album that has stood the test of time, still utterly infectious and absorbing - a collection of music that captures an era of stripped back, yet captivating sounds. 10 years since its release, the album is getting the remix treatment and Marc has called in some of the very best in techno talent to give Restore a fresh makeover. The selection of artists who've contributed to the 'Restored' project includes heavyweights such as Joris Voorn, M.A.N.D.Y. and Popof together with additional reworks from stars of the new generation such as Danny Daze, Julian Jeweil and Harvard Bass, all giving his tracks a new lease of life. In addition, Houle himself has also stepped up to offer a new contemporary take on his own music, collaborating with vocalist Genevieve Marentette on 'Demor'. 'Restore was the beginning of it all for me. It was influenced by the sounds of Detroit and the endless parties I went to there in the 90s. We're over the moon to present the vinyl debut of Elysia Crampton with 'Moth / Lake' thru Boomkat Editions.
Formerly known by the moniker, E + E, this single marks the first chapter of her Shenandoah series, a concept work that explores Virginian American history and brownness beyond culture, as geology - as mud, dirt, and mineral.' Breaking with the artist's highly influential and formerly sample-rich arrangements, the material on both sides is entirely, uniquely original. With the breathtaking transevangelistic comedy, 'Moth', written for and featuring the compelling vocal of Money Allah, Elysia pays tribute to legendary Afro-American comedians Stepin Fetchit and Bert Williams against a sweeping backdrop of vapourous synths and strings perhaps best compared, in terms of sonics, with the deep synthetic topographies of TCF and Arca (or is it the other way around). In the most striking sense, it's a song that will stick with you long, long after it's finished. The immersive instrumental B-side, 'Lake', is Elysia's version of a Bolivian Saya, a work song/dance style which can trace its roots back to the original mixture of Andean and African traditions during the first days of slavery in South America, and also makes reference to John Bunyan's 17th C religious text, 'Pilgrim's Progress' and the railroad path near the Shenandoah Mountains, Virginia, where the piece's crepsucular patina of field recordings were sourced. Quite simply, it's a hugely recommended record from a genuinely exceptional and incisive artist.

"Put Your Mind On Zero" swirls into a heavy upright bass groove seething with woody percussions and plenty of sonic details flesh out the languorous but slightly tribal groove to make this a dancefloor mover.

The Höhenregler head Basti Grub built a Remix on a rolling, almost bouncy groove on the "Put Your Mind On Zero" that keeps gaining momentum with the additon of new percussive elements that gets more and more swinging, this slowly evolving track create a unique atmosphere.

The EP continues with the dub-influenced "Bred" with a broken beat and mild-mannered percussion, before a bouncy bassline kicks in and transforms it to a dancefloor smasher. If this is the most banging track of the EP, then it's been a while since a banger's been so catchy.

"Before Singing We Must Leave The Church" is a rabid beast of a track that contains with an infectious groove and chuggy drums. With its hypnotic vibe, tripped out sounds, It is taking you on an interstellar trip.

Felix Bernhardt & Grieche - This is a derb Minimal-Techno EP. Analogue sounds at its best!Side a is completely a analogue live record. Side b is the typical crazy sound produced by Felix Bernhardt.

The main track "Oh Year" shows us the house side of Markus's musical education in the early 90`s. Raw, dirty and funky, beatdriven drum programming and oldschool influenced organs. All this is held together by a massive bassline, rolling over the dancefloor. Not much else to say than: Oh Year!!

THE EP

Where "Oh Year" takes you more to the funky side, "Dayrun" is a more techno influenced trip to the dephts of the night. With the hypnotic synths and wobbly bassline it invites you to loose yourself in the dance. On the other side, the detroitesque strings, that glimpse up during the break and the pushing hihats, it leaves you with a smile and your hands in the air.

To complete this fabulous EP, Markus throws in some percussion and extra deep basslines on "Pingel Pangel Snop". A track that is filled up with funk & soul, designed to be nothing but a house track with a twinkle in one's eye. A true groove monster.

THE ARTIST

Everything has started for Markus with a gift of his brother in 1992, a Behringer 3 canal mixer. Kraftwerk, Yello, and Off belonged to the artists who opened his creativity and his ears for the electronic dance music. In 1994 he visited for the first time the Omen in Frankfurt where Sven Vath, DJ Dag and Frank Lorber did what DJ's for one good evening have to act. Two years later he put in action his won inspirations in the end, in the decks.

THE REMIX

Who else could we have asked for a remix on this oldschool trip than DJ Sneak. Not only that Markus and Sneak share their love for BBQ and big chunks of beef, they also deliver a perfect match soundwise. DJ Sneak takes the original to another level by enriching the percussions, adding a floor pounding kickdrum and bringing in some real house gangster feeling. With his own words: Yeah man, imma work it for ya!!

After a break of four years, Robot Ranch Records presents a new double ep from Ash Carr, artist and producer from Leeds (UK). The record includes three original tracks as well as three remixes from H.off.i, Schwarz Weiss and Freq Freq. The three original tracks represent an excerpt from Ash Carr´s creative period from around five years ago. Soggy Bottom, the basic and main title of this ep, appears unusually relaxed with it´s amusing constructed percussion arrangement and the powerful 808 kickdrum. The recorded deep voice vocals are hanging over the Soggy Bottom like a sword of damokles. It almost seems as if they were take the audience into the depth, alternating with short emerging acid bubbles. Safari and Something Fuzzy are more playful and even more relaxed and put the record to a cohesive overall picture leaving space for interpretation. The approaches of all three remix artists show off how different each one picks up the "red thread" with his needle and reentangles it into something "new". H.off.i`s A13 rmx put´s a simple recurring "beep" synth sound for the hookline over a shuffled rattle percussion beside the freaky robot voice in the break - all in a down tempo mood. Thereby he leaves his very own piece of cosmic disco. Schwarz Weiss with the clear sometimes stumbling structure and the reduced, snotty way creates a note reminding to early Areal Records (Ada,Basteroid...) from the 2000s. Last but not least, Freq Freq`s straight techno version of Soggy Safari merges the essences of two tracks into one,so that the full depth of the track becomes apparent only after repeated listening.
