The duo of Mike Edge and Amber Q, Boardwalk are to release their self-titled debut on Stones Throw. Recorded onto two-inch tape with no overdubs in Edge's custom-built studio, Boardwalk's ten songs are catchy dream-pop - accessible but ethereal, driven by traditional instrumentation, Amber's breathy vocals and Edge's all-analogue recording and production techniques. Both its warm analogue sound and themes of the dynamics of human relationships give Boardwalk a timeless quality. Though they work on separate musical projects - Mike is a producer for Grammy-winning artists and Amber is a hip-hop ghostwriter and vocal coach - Boardwalk have found a sound that sits at the intersection of experimental and pop, vintage and new, a sound that will appeal to fans of The xx, Mazzy Star and Sharon Van E. Boardwalk join a roster of successful crossover musicians on the indie label Stones Throw. Recent popular acts have included Aloe Blacc, Anika and Mayer Hawthorne.

First up is Carola Baer's The Story of Valery, which is comprised of music from a one-off demo cassette found in a thrift store. Beautiful personal & emotionally resonant drum computer mantras in the key of Dead Can Dance, The Cocteau Twins and classic 4AD.

The discovery of a cassette of Carola Baer's early 90s private home recordings was like finding a needle in a haystack. Made as a one-off mixtape of newly recorded songs, and given to a long-since
forgotten recipient, this cassette was found in 2017 at a Goodwill "bins" location in Portland, Oregon. These chaotic, by-the-pound thrift stores contain 1000's of unsorted items in constant flux, which are only available for the public to buy for a limited time before they are discarded. The prospect that this obscure relic would be rescued from its untimely fate is nothing short of a miracle. As this tape was the only one in existence, with no back up versions of many of the songs, it's more than likely that this
music would have been lost forever.

The Story of Valerie is made up of songs culled from that cassette, with a few additional tracks from the time, and is the first time Carola Baer's solo material has been heard by the public. The intense emotion of the music is brought upon by the primary themes of the album: the cruelty of humanity, isolated life as a British immigrant in the US, and the pain of doomed relationships. Despite being inspired by classic 4AD acts like Dead Can Dance and Cocteau Twins, Baer's home recordings have a sound and style that is uniquely her own. Many of the tracks feel like musical exorcisms, with Baer's spine tingling voice soaring above minimal arrangements for Yamaha DX-7 and Casio CZ-101 synthesizers. Like finding a stranger's diary, the listener is granted access to music that is emotionally
raw and deeply personal.

Founded in 1951 by independent record store owner and radio show promoter Ernie Young, Nashville, TN's Nashboro Records recorded some of the most potent and forceful gospel music of the time period. Although initially begun in response to overwhelming demand for gospel locally, Nashboro quickly became nationally applauded for its curatorial prowess (under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Morgan Babb of the Radio Four) and signature production style. The lightly-reverbed, clear sound of a Nashboro record is unmistakable.
Give Me My Flowers is a compilation of some of the finest cuts released by Nashboro Records, many of which have not been previously reissued. It kicks off with a total banger, The Hightower Brothers' 'Until He Comes,' which would have made an amazing cover song for Spacemen 3. Iola and Sullivan Pugh, also known as The Consolers, top off the A-side of the compilation with the intensely potent namesake track, 'Give Me My Flowers'. A final highlight is 'Almighty God' from Sister Pope and the Pearly Gates; dare you to get it out of your head after you hear the chorus even once.
Not only are the featured artists endlessly skilled at their craft, their songs are absolutely explosive. This is the opposite of indifference or irony; there is a mission here, steeped in a full-heartedness that can only be derived from selfless devotion.
Additionally, the songs featured on Give Me My Flowers are representative of a far too overlooked and important chapter in Nashville's music history. These musicians, store employees and businesspeople played a critical role in building the infrastructure for independent music to flourish in their city. Naturally, it is a cornerstone in Third Man's long-term mission to support and highlight the complete music histories of Tennessee and Michigan, from the most rightfully revered to the most critically under-represented.
All of these tracks were assembled with producer and journalist Mike McGonigal (Detroit Gospel Reissue Project, Temperature's Rising: An Oral History of Galaxie 500) and transferred directly from the 45 collection of Kevin Nutt (Case Quarter Records, Sinner's Crossroads radio program).

Clarence Henry Reid, better known under his stage name Blowfly, wrote lot of songs for artists in the soul and funk scene. His second album Running Water under his own name shows him as a versatile artists with a lot of experience in writing and producing music. It was just before he went on to create his alter ego Blowfly and start performing in bizarre costumes. This soul record is a wonderful start to hear the talent Reid had for singing and writing.

a score that includes a skull and plenty of errors and ellipses.
Yet another singular release on the boundary-oblivious Entr'acte, Bloody Sirens presents avant garde compositions for vocals which are simultaneously timeless, ancient, yet up-to-the-
moment, both democratic in organisation and collectively keening towards a framework familiar to the Slip label's excellent vocal works by Object Collection and Laurie Tompkins, as much as a
wealth of historical works.

Cha Cha is the first live album by the Dutch blues and rock and roll group Herman Brood & His Wild Romance. The energetic live performance of frontman Herman is brought to you on vinyl and includes the single "Still Believe". Cha Cha is one fast trip to the world of "the greatest and only Dutch rock 'n' roll star", as het was called. He just takes the express and hold the pace high, when he's drifting away with his band to some great musical jams. The references to the drugs are clear, but he's not always satisfied, as hearable on "Dope Sucks". As "Rock 'N Roll Junkie" he adds a lot his passion and feeling in the live movement.

Herman Brood is known for his lifestyle "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll", which would ultimately mean his end. In 2001 he committed suicide by jumping of the rooftop of the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel. The tragic end of rock 'n' roll hero.

Yes, because the album is absolutely suitable for the masses - or maybe not, because it can't be put in a specific box. Sometimes it sounds just like John Coltrane, sometimes just like Kraftwerk. While one is still feeling the Latin- vibes à la Antônio Carlos Jobim, the next track surprises with a horn solo in the style of Richard Wagner. But despite this diversity, it is not an arbitrary sequence of tributes: The Finn understands how to create his songs harmoniously and melodically so forcefully that you inevitably start to feel the groove. Whenever the listener threatens to lean back into a state of in- attention, he is reactivated by new, surprising harmonic or rhythmic changes. The clever arrangements, all written by Linear John himself, offer a coherent listening experience and yet are unpredictable and somehow refreshingly different.

Double Parade' can't be squeezed into a corset. Clear stylistic classification, proven musical means and established structures are skillfully expanded here, while the music is equally fascinating to experts and laymen.
